I'd give zero stars if I could. New owners are horrible. Unfriendly, rude, and unaccommodating. Our drinks took 15 minutes to get to us after ordering. We weren't even offered water, yet other tables had water and a pitcher was being brought around to them. My husband ordered a steak with a "Hunter sauce" off the specials menu. The steak came and the sauce was COLD! We explained this to the waitress - barely an apology. Sauce was completely bland with zero flavor. My husband then asked to switch his order since it was pretty much inedible. Meanwhile, my kids and I were already done. Two people came over asking if we needed boxes and I kept saying NO - my husband is still waiting for his meal!! A good 15 minutes goes by with no follow-up from the waitress, and she finally said "it's still cooking". My husband at this point doesn't even want it. We were all so disgusted. We told them just cancel it. Another 10 minutes goes by and the meal comes out in a tin to take home. They forced it on us because they didn't want to take anything off the bill. They refused to take it off the bill or comp us for anything. Horrible way to do business. We will never step foot in here again. We went here for years under the old owners and have been residents of Vernon for 20 plus years. What a shame. HEY GORDON RAMSEY, THIS IS YOUR NEXT HELL'S KITCHEN!!! This is one of the hardest reviews I've ever had to write. This restaurant has been part of my life for over 20 years. I've celebrated countless milestones here -- more than 10 parties over the years -- and the staff always felt like family. Until now. I chose this restaurant for my baby shower because of that history and that trust. I booked with the new owner in early February and worked through multiple scheduling changes just to secure the private party room, away from the bar. I didn't ask for a written contract. After 20 years, it never crossed my mind that I'd need one. The day before my shower, I reached out with our final head count -- because no one had contacted me, which was already a red flag. That's when everything fell apart. I was told the room had changed and I wpuld be in the front right next to the bar. When I expressed my frustration, I was told I could keep the room but had to leave earlier than planned for the dinner rush. And when I asked why none of this came up in the six weeks since booking, the owner told me it was because my count was lower than expected and that he had passed on a 50-person party for mine. I was floored. After two decades of loyalty, I was made to feel like a burden at my own baby shower. I was never told there was a minimum headcount requirement. That should have been said upfront -- not the day before my event. We kept the room but I spent the whole party feeling rushed and unwelcome. Staff was already breaking down tables while we were still there wrapping up the event. The owners never once stopped by to say hello or acknowledge the occasion. And then I found out that our favorite chef -- someone who had been the heart of this kitchen for 25 years -- was let go for no good reason. he was part of the reason we always had our parties here. This place has changed in all the wrong ways. We won't be back, and I can no longer recommend it to anyone. I hope the new ownership understands what they've lost -- because it's more than just customers. read more

Came to this place since it was close to our Airbnb. It had a nice ambiance, staff was nice and quick. For appetizer we had the ahi tuna which was a little too thick cuts but overall good. Appetizers were actually huge plates. Felt too full to even eat my main course meal. Mozzarella was thick with lots of cheese which is my preference. For main dish, the seafood linguini had a good amount of seafood but I wasn't a fan of the broth. It felt like they didn't season or anything to the water used to cook the seafood. The beef bolognese was okay. A lot of food, but missed out on the seasoning. Overall, okay experience. I would give them another chance but we were local only for the weekend. read more

Went to wing night on a Tuesday and the wings were very meaty and delicious. A variety of sauces to choose from. I like the Thai. Waitress was excellent. Fun, organized and professional. ***3 1/2 stars*** The Lamp Post Inn was the site of a post-snowtubing lunch on Superbowl Sunday. It looked intriguing/eclectic from afar, and it certainly was that. If you grew up in the 70s or 80s, you absolutely had a grandparent whose basement had wood paneling like this. It doesn't look like the dining area has been updated in decades, and I'm all for it; Jimmy Carter could have stopped here on a campaign swing. The booths looked especially cozy, but we had a party of eight, alas, and sat at a standalone table. Framed pithy sayings/aphorisms were all over the walls. There was a more modern/standard bar area further into the restaurant, but I enjoyed eating in my time vortex. We ordered a bunch of standard bar apps to start, which included mozzy sticks and tater skins. Both were excellent. I'm usually slightly positive (though not overwhelmingly so) on mozzy sticks. I think it's really easy to mess them up texture-wise, but these were perfect. Just the right amount of crispness without veering into unpleasant soggy territory. The tater skins were more like wedges than straight-up potato halves, which I was definitely into - better serving sizes, and none of the pieces were overdone. Also, I ordered a glass of wine that, I'm not kidding, was less than $5. This was not a Happy Hour - it was the normal price. Sussex County is such a delight. For my entree, I went with the penne vodka. It was tasty with a decent but not overwhelming portion (one companion commented that the appetizer portions were larger than the entrees, which seemed accurate to me - not really a negative or a positive, I suppose). Since I had accidentally gorged on the taters, I had leftovers (which held up well the next day), but you could easily eat this in one fell swoop if you're not being too naughty otherwise. Have I had better? Yes, but this was perfectly fine, just a little bland. Dessert-wise, a couple of us ordered the apple crisp ala mode and the peanut butter cream pie to split. The peanut butter cream pie was more warmly received, so I ended up eating most of the apple crisp, which was fine but also a bit tasteless (possible trend, given the penne vodka situation). It could have used something else to give it some zip, like caramel drizzle (which coincidentally the peanut butter cream pie had). The bathroom was an interesting experience. It was a nippy day (probably around 30 degrees), and the windows in there were wide open. I'm glad I didn't have to be in there for more than a minute or two, and I felt bad for any future visitors who had...a longer agenda than that. It was clean at least and pretty spacious - I changed out of my snow pants into jeans pretty comfortably in the stall. The service started off strong, and petered out over time, unfortunately. To their credit, the hostess/staff who greeted us when we came in didn't even bat an eye when I told them how many were in our party. We were seated promptly, and orders were taken almost as quickly. I think our assigned waitress changed midway through, which could definitely explain what happened with the service - honestly, I can't remember the last time that occurred and it DIDN'T have a negative impact. I even hesitated ordering dessert, knowing it would likely keep us in there for a while, but the devil on my shoulder usually wins those debates. We were probably in there for 45 minutes more than we needed to be, all told. Given that we were a large party, I'm honestly surprised more attention wasn't paid overall, and it definitely caused what was up until then a pretty positive review to hover more toward neutral. Came in for lunch this past weekend. We called ahead to make sure they were open. No reservations were needed and we were immediately sat outside on the deck. Our waitress was very friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered a turkey sandwich that came out HUGE. I wanted to make some sandwich modifications, which I could tell from her face though, this wasn't the place to do so. The sandwich I picked was still great. Dish came, bone dry cutlet, no flavor, no lemon sauce, totally bland. My girl ordered her usual seafood linguini, which too was bland and lack luster. We ordered, Linguini with butter for the child and it came no butter and warm. Again, my favorite when in town... This place has been around for quite a few years. It is known for good food and drink. We had a gathering of 10 retired friends and were very, very happy with everything. The food was excellent and fairly priced, the wait staff could not have been better. We made the right decision to come here for the gathering. Sal and his staff are absolutely wonderful. We stopped briefly at Lamp Post Inn in Sussex after spending an exhausting but very fun day at Crystal Spring Resort. This restaurant does not look very appealing from the outside but once inside you know that it will be great since right away you can appreciate that it is a local favorite. The atmosphere is casual and down to earth; we sat in the pub area of the restaurant where we were entertained by the merry and friendly chatter around us. They have a very limited draft beer selection and due to the fact that we had eaten several snacks during the course of the day and it was a day after Thanksgiving, we kept our food order small. My husband and I split an order of Spud Skins and Chicken Wings. The wings were amazing!!! Plump, juicy and crispy on the outside. The hot sauce dressing was just perfect, not too spicy complementing the meat very well! Both appetizers were very satisfying. We opted for soups as entrees, and my partner in crime had his favorite Onion Soup while I tried the soup of the day which was Cream of Mushroom. Again very satisfying and generous plates. Came here randomly with some friends and it was a great find. You would think this place was just a random neighborhood place but there is so much more to this place. When you first walk in it looked like an old Italian restaurant, but as you walk further into the restaurant you realize that this place is much larger and really nice. Their bar area is pretty large and they have high tables where you can eat in the area, plus they also sell bottled alcohol like a full liquor store. I always find that interesting when they do that in NJ. This place also had a band that night and it was really nice because I didn't expect one. They have a pretty large food menu and offer really deliciously looking specials. We started with their calamari, it was a pretty big order and it was fried perfectly. We also had their jamming fried shrimp or something like that and it really was not that memorable. We all ordered burgers. I had a standard cheese burger smothered with grilled mushrooms and it was huge and juicy (YUMMY). Their burgers were so big that I could only eat half of it, plus there were so much fries with the order. For a bar I found their drinks to be very light. So I switched to white wine and they served it in small red wine glasses. I thought they were giving me shots of white wine. They had a lot of great beer's but I am not a beer drinker. All in all this was really a great place for food and I would definitely go out of my way to go there again. read more

Been coming here for almost 15 years. The food is always good and the prices competitive. One of the best pizzas in the area, big fat wings and fare ranging from bar food to quality dining makes this place is among the best in Sussex County. The decor may be a bit dated, but I like how it feels like coming home: comfortable. The only knock is that most of the menu doesn't rotate outside of a few specials. I can get the same crab stuffed chicken that I could a decade and a half ago. Some of the core menu needs to be changed, but as I said, a friendly place with satisfying food and reasonable prices. The menu is a no-frills American traditional with a touch of Italian American, but the food is tasty and the portions are rather hefty. Kinda rustic and unpretentious. I will start off saying we were a large party. The waitstaff was wonderful in every way possible. With so many of us, I will only critique from my own POV. I ordered the French onion soup to start. Bread was provided and we were offered more. We shared 2 bottles of Cavit moscato. It went well with my meal. I ordered the seafood assortment. It included 2 small pieces of sea bass, 2 scallops, 2 shrimp, 2 stuffed clams, a crab stuffed shrimp, assorted vegetables (zucchini, yellow squash, carrots & green beans) I chose rice with my meal. The French onion soup was wonderful and just what one would expect. My seafood assortment was average. The scallops were cooked but there was no real sear on either side but, they were moist. The shrimp were cooked but really had no pizazz to them. The clams were tasty but one had a bit of grit. The sea bass was nicely cooked but also bland. It is like someone forgot to properly season the food. The stuffed shrimp was also decent. The rice and vegetables were also on the bland side. Lemon was provided but did not added enough for the blandness of my meal. A little pricey for an average meal. I expected more as my family was raving about this place.
