It's very expensive and now they change the way to get prescriptions which is very very frustrating.. this company they are dealing with for prescriptions has very bad reviews and I can see why I just dealt with them trying to get my Dog's prescriptions. She died hours later at home. I was basically told that shit happens. "Sometimes people get knee surgery and die" . "Her death may not be related to the surgery". What a weird coincidence that she dropped dead hours after being in Their care. I was told about possible complications after the fact. I was never informed of the possible risks related to age and size previous to the surgery; only after she died. They reimbursed me but were still going to charge me for her flea and tick prevention. We have been with CAH since they've opened. At the time our other vet had raised premiums significantly and the experience we had with our Pitbull was poor. We chose CAH due to an amazing experience during an emergency and moved our pets over. At the time, CAH had three primary doctors who were just incredible. They've been there for us during some pretty rough times. However, over the past 3 years, we've noticed a huge difference. In the last 10 months, we've had to cope with an epilepsy diagnosis which now requires 2x daily administration of medication as well as severe allergies requiring both oral meds and monthly shots. Getting our epileptic scheduled & in for routine blood panels is worse than ever and we've had to seek alternative support from Ocean State emergency service to stay consistent. In the last 45 days, we've also been to CAH more than 6 times, often spending countless hours and multiple calls per day to secure emergency visit slots. It used to be easier, someone would always call us back; but not these days! Lets not forget the other sides of this. Time away from our jobs, Vet bills all averaging over $400 bucks a pop and our epileptic feeling awful. During this time we've also had a misdiagnosis which caused 15 days of suffering for our epileptic And daily horrific accidents in our house - to the point that we have to replace an entertainment unit and crown molding throughout the majority of our first floor. I've spent so much in enzyme cleaning solution that one would think I was cleaning up crime scenes. But, let's talk about the final kick in the face from CAH. At wits end of the constant clean-up and let me remind you: SMELL and not to mention our poor guy feeling beyond horrible, we spent hours calling and waiting for a call back. My husband finally got in touch with Dr. L and was told to bring him in as a "walk-in" this past Saturday morning. " Be in the parking lot for 8 AM" was the direction. And so, After our most recent visit and just under $500 bucks, my second job as a professional cleaner and No improvement, I was in that parking lot at 8am! And then the Kick: I was told by the front staff: ( the facial expression said it all) "Umm. I'm not sure who told you this or to come in. But we're only triaging today. You can call and make an appointment." After Mentioning again, I was here based on what we were told to do, I was advised to go home and to start with a "urine catch"?!?!!!! And that was it. My furry baby and I walked out. Me? Sobbing and bawling my eyes out. And with No hesitation, I drove my guy to Ocean State Emergency Vet Hospital where we spent 7 hours. Our entire Saturday. They were kind, compassionate and RIGHT ON! amazingly? I PAID LESS than what I had paid at CAH (on average) in the last 60 days. He was diagnosed with Diabetes AND HIS BLOOD SUGARS were over 600 and on the verge of shutting down. It took a while to adjust and get just the right insulin dosage to help him out. That was necessary. And then a plan for maintenance; but very necessary too! Here's the most important thing- he's back to his happy, not having accidents everywhere self and FEELING BETTER! CAH, I know your focus is to help animals in need; but, its come at a cost to your furry customers who need you. You're spread too thin & your staff was unprofessional. The Nail: My husband called CAH after learning of our dog's condition. The response he received was "oh. That was Your wife who left crying. Let me call you back." Now, I will add that he was really upset, probably let out his emotions in not the best way... but, It's now Wednesday and NO ONE HAS CALLED US BACK. Good thing I took him to Ocean or he'd be dead. We've moved our "kids" to a new doctor and what and experience in the last 5 days. We've had NO PRIOR experience with them and they've called to just "check-in". They want to know how he's feeling & how we're doing / holding up with our newest medical administration: checking doggy blood and giving insulin! So CAH, Keep your "callback". In January, 2023, I rescued two puppies who needed to be spayed, and my regular vet was booked for several months. Coventry Animal Hospital/Salt Ponds Animal Hospital was recommended to me, so I brought my new puppies for pre-surgery screening and they did blood tests where Dr Resnick told me that liver enzymes were mildly elevated in both pups, which I know from past experiences is not a big deal. They recommended a number of different tests to precisely diagnose the issue, and after hearing a long list of options from them, I opted for the puppy with the higher values to have a liver biopsy performed at the time of her spay, which they recommended as the option with the best chance of precisely diagnosing the issue causing the liver enzymes to be mildly elevated. In Dr Resnick's notes, she expresses her frustration that I did not agree to a list of several diagnostic tests that could have also been done. In retaliation for not allowing her to subject my puppy to her series of tests, she crafted her chart notes in a way that was clearly intended to thoroughly sabotage the chance of my puppy from receiving insurance coverage for most systems of the body by creating a broad range of pre-existing conditions which my puppy will be excluded from coverage from for her lifetime. Never before this have I seen a pet's medical record that was written in a vindictive way that was clearly intended to cause harm. Even with the biopsy results, Dr Levy did not provide a diagnosis or tell anything meaningful, other than to say that it was "nothing worrisome". With the damage that Dr Resnick had already caused by using alarmist language in her charting notes, his meaningless diagnosis after the biopsy was did nothing to undo the damage that Dr Resnick had caused. It seems extremely cruel that they subjected my puppy to this awfully painful procedure when they must have known that Levy's weak diagnosis would never mitigate the harm that Dr. Resnick had already caused. The puppy who had the biopsy had an incision that was approximately six inches longer than the puppy who was only spayed (see photos). Had I known that Dr Levy's diagnosis would be so lacking in information, I would have never agreed to put my puppy through that invasive and painful ordeal, especially when it was clear that Dr Resnick's purpose was to sell diagnostic tests, and when she did not meet her goal, she fabricated pre-existing conditions to deliberately sabotage my puppy's health insurance. There were several problems with my dog's charts. Firstly, the elevated liver values (ALT) that they stated as the reason for the biopsy were not in the bloodwork report. In addition to missing information, there were inaccuracies and redundancies in the lab report. Dr Levy admitted that he frequently has problems with his lab, and when I called the office, they produced a lab report with different information. I voiced my concerns about my experience with his practice to Dr. Levy as he is one of the owners, and he told me that he understood my concerns, but that he would not do anything differently. I requested that my pet's records not be sent to anyone but myself, and they sent these damaging records directly to the pet's insurance company after I told them not to send them anywhere except to me. My interactions with reception staff and doctors were pleasant and professional, but while reading my pet's records, it was very clear that they have bad intentions. I have never experienced a veterinary practice that advocates so strongly against pets having best possible outcomes. I urge anyone whose pet has been treated by Coventry Animal Hospital or Salt Ponds to read all of your pet's records and have a different veterinarian review any lab work that was performed and all chart notes/records for errors and inaccuracies. If what happened to my pets is typical of how they run their practices, they have caused harm to other family's pets as well. I have had pets for decades and have dealt with many veterinarians over the years, and this is the first time I have experienced veterinarians who so clearly are in it for the money, not because they love animals. read more

Been going here for years and after a move I found out my dog was due for shots LAST month! Did they call? No. Email? No. Instead they tell me in February that the soonest they can see her is April and that it will be a one year shot & not the safer 3 year due to jackass RI legislation that says if you're one day late you have to do the 1 year. Outrageous & now need a new vet. They were okay until they weren't. If your dog is difficult they will sedate them. (Ocean state did not need to sedate her when I brought her in for an emergency- handled her brilliantly) At Coventry you will never get the same vet twice and often just a tech. SALT PONDS ANIMAL HOSPITAL KILLED OUR CAT During an earlier visit to Salt Pond, their staff recommended we schedule our Charlie, our male Siberian Forest Cat aged 9 years, for a dental cleaning, as they claimed he had some tartar. The staff did not make it clear that this was an elective procedure, their explanation made it seem as though it was necessary to perform. The representatives also did not inform us that they would be performing the dental cleaning under anesthesia, which had we been made aware would have made us hesitate agreeing to the cleaning so readily and we would have asked many more questions before scheduling. On Tuesday, January 9, 2024, we brought Charlie to Salt Pond Animal Hospital for the recommended dental cleaning. We dropped Charlie off at approximately 8:00am and was told I would receive a phone call before 12:00 noon when the procedure would be completed and Charlie would be ready to be picked up. Alarmingly, we received a call at approximately 11:00am from Salt Pond informing us that Charlie had died while in their care. We are deeply troubled by the lack of detailed records regarding his condition and the events leading to his death. The lack of transparency and detailed records combined with the unexpected death of our cat in their care raises serious concerns about the standard of care provided at Salt Pond Animal Hospital. The staff provided little documentation regarding the timeline and events that transpired (including a lack of specific information on the dosages of medications and drugs they administered to Charlie, the amount of time he was under anesthesia before he died, and whether or not he was being monitored by anybody while under anesthesia before his death) make it impossible to understand what transpired with any accuracy or detailed documentation. The lack of documentation also makes it impossible to determine if the staff performed their duties in a responsible manner. Our cat is dead and we have no concrete answers as to what transpired at Salt Pond Animal Hospital. We are devastated. read more

If you are the type of pet-owner who advocates for YOUR pet, do not take them to Coventry Animal Hospital. You will be asked to leave if you speak up on their behalf. If you say "hey, this treatment is wrong" or "this is extreme and harmful to my dog" or "my pet isn't showing signs of this or that, so why are we treating them for it?", etc., -- you will be asked to leave. If you ask to speak to a supervisor because the receptionist is very rude to you and speaks to you with sarcasm and distain -- you will be asked to leave. I started going to CAH when Dr. Weitzma was owner. He appreciated breeders and said that breeders should be listened to, as they see and experience a lot with their breed. He was amazing and I trusted him. When he retired and turned the clinic over to Dr. Lester and Dr. Levy, things drastically changed. ALL of the above now applies. Malpractice and "the customer is always wrong", reigns supreme at CAH. Be aware...if you question any treatment, you will be asked to leave. Save your money and heartache and go elsewhere. read more

My chocolate Labrador, Rosie-Roo, is a new patient at Coventry Animal Hospital. I decided to take her here for her surgery to get spayed, and, as all the 5-star reviews can attest, I made a good decision! The veterinary clinic I used previously had given me a quote to spay my dog, and there were several 'add-on' charges. So, I used the Yelp app to get estimates from other veterinarians, and Coventry Animal Hospital responded quickly and professionally. Their estimate was considerably less expensive than my previous vet, and I especially liked that the estimate included everything: the surgery, anesthesia, medication, e-collar and suture removal. More importantly, though, the quality of care at Coventry Animal Hospital was excellent, so I decided to have them spay my dog. About a month before the surgery, I brought my dog in for a pre-surgical exam, where the veterinarian who examined my dog deemed her healthy (Rosie is 2 years old). The vet recommended blood work, but did not push it. I was nervous about getting my dog spayed, but the vet assured me that it is a fairly routine procedure, and eased my worries. About two weeks ago, the day of Rosie's surgery arrived, and I dropped her off around 8 a.m. The veterinarian who performed her surgery called me around 11 a.m. and said the procedure went well, and that I could pick my dog up that afternoon. I was given a list of post-surgical care, and a vet tech even helped me get Rosie into the car. My dog's incision healed very well, and as promised, she was back to her usual personality by the next day. Rosie had to wear a cone, which was a bit awkward, but she adapted to it. Ten days after the surgery, we returned (on a Sunday, which was super-convenient!) to get her sutures removed, at no additional cost, and Rosie was finally free of the cone! All the staff we encountered were very friendly, and super nice to my dog. It's a good sign when you walk up to your veterinarian's building, and your dog drags you because she's excited to go IN. I have been there for over 10 years and l stay for my dogs because Dr Lester is the best. It seems the front desk reception has been an on and off issue for a while for me. I chat a lot about my dogs issues, yes I love my dogs so much I'm talking about a few unprofessional receptionists who should not be working with the public until learning ways to interact professionally when they answer the phone. As in those who give you attitude and leave you on hold 8 ( timed) minutes hang up on you and think it's okay or pull the phone away from your ear or put it on speaker. It's NOT funny that we are dealing with our pets who have BEATING HEARTS and we love more than anything else in the world. The whole staff is really friendly and the office is clean. A male cat had just sprayed a room we were in prior to entering. It had been cleaned and a window was open. They were very apologetic but it didn't bother me at all. Dr. Lester is a great vet. He took more time than any vet I've known to get to know and examine my boxer Rhody. Rhody had a cluster of bumps on his elbow. I rescued him last year and found out who his previous owner was. He had always had the bumps since a puppy but they were never checked. The first vet looked and said they were probably benign. Dr. Lester took some fluid from them with a needle to make sure. It came back benign but set my mind at ease. My bulldog had a loose tooth and was drooling excessively. I called every single vet in a 20 mile radius and they all simply told me sorry no appointments till later in the week. I couldn't even get any advice on how to help her while we waitedWhen I called here they were the only ones to even offer to put me on a cancellation list, as futile as that might be. Then they offered to just chat with the doctor and see if they could get us some advice or maybe even make something happen. Honestly, that's all I needed to be writing this review and to switch to them going forward. Even if it was just to appease me, I appreciated the effort. However they went above and beyond and did squeeze her in, and every person that spoke to me was so kind, and they gave her some pain meds until they could fix her teeth in a couple of days. Everything was explained to me thoroughly and they clearly cared about my dogs comfort. To top it all off their price was more than fair and I'm so incredibly grateful. This all happened during this crazy pandemic so with everything already so stressful, it was incredible to see a place going above and beyond for my chubby wrinkly critter. The front staff worked to help me and I was told to bring her right in to be evaluated. While the outcome for our pup was not what one would wish, Dr Lester treated her, and me, with an incredible amount of kindness and compassion. We took our cat here for an operation based off the recommendations of others. The business itself looked professional and clean, however, the staff were not always friendly, attentive, or willing to ensure the pet's safety was the primary concern. Prior to the operation, we were never informed that NO ONE would be on location with our fur-baby throughout the night post-surgery. We were lead to believe she'd be safer in their care, in the off-chance something DID go wrong, they could treat her on-site asap. That was not the case. We called the business to check in on how she was post-surgery, but no one answered. An automated message came on telling us that we were being 'transferred to that extension' (we never put one in, nor was prompted for one in the first place), and then never-ending silence on the other end. This seemed like a big red flag, so I drove out to the property to see for myself if there was anyone there to look after the pets who were operated on and staying over for recovery and observation. Not a car in sight. The next day when we went to pick her up, we voiced that concern to the staff. Not only were they argumentative about how they never do that for their patients, but conveyed that they have zero interest in looking into ways to at the VERY least monitor the pets/patients in the future. The same rather rude vet tech then briefed us on the care instructions for our pet in the open waiting area, discussing my pet's personal needs in front of strangers -- instead of speaking with us privately. Furthermore, we requested care instructions e-mailed to us, to ensure we do everything per their recommendations as closely as possible (so as not to forget anything). Most businesses/hospitals WILLINGLY provide release care instructions for their patients, but when we asked *TWICE* for them to be e-mailed (as the first time was ignored entirely), the front desk agent actually LAUGHED/GIGGLED. I am beyond disgusted with the "care" this facility provides for its patients. I will be alerting not only my friends, but fellow RI hospitals so they are aware of these blatant issues. The cost for treatment here is what must attract most people, because the lackadaisical care is simply astounding. Think twice before you take your precious loved one here. We took our 3 dogs there today for the first time., We were very happy with Dr. Lester and impressed with his expertise and compassion. Finally someone has answers to one of our pets concerns. He took time to answer our questions and listened to our concerns with patience and was in no hurry. He sat on the floor and interacted with our dogs and gave out cookies. Our dogs were very comfortable and loved interacting with him. Their tails were wagging as were ours! The Technician was very kind and helpful playing with our dogs with a smile and the receptionist was also very pleasant. Dogs are very intuitive and our dogs were not climbing or scratching the door to get out. Also the cost of going there was very reasonable. We are very happy! Update: one of our babies was recently euthanized sadly and the receptionist,,Vet Tech Melissa and the doctor who was on Dr Roadhorse (?spelling) were so sweet and sympathetic to our gushing tears and to Boo Boo who was treated gently as we were. It was heart breaking for us and having hugs from them and being treated emphatically and sympathetic made a big difference. Rest in Peace Boo Boo. A few months ago it became clear it was time for some much needed dental work on my 15 y/o Yorkie mix. I was concerned about putting him under anesthesia at his age. Dr Lester was very reassuring and answered my many questions. He ran a few test to be sure there were no underlying medical issues. When the day cameo was still nervous but the wonderful staff promised to call as soon as he was out and they did! He needed a few teeth removed and was on soft foods for just a few days and these days we don't mind Toby's kisses. Recently it became time to have a dog we adopted retested for heart worms, she had been positive and treated when she was first rescued. Unfortunately she tested positive. Understandably I was quite upset and concerned about putting her through treatment again, but knew she would be in good hands. She is half way through with her treatment and doing well!! I own 11 of my own dogs and at any given time, I may be caring for up to 20 dogs....this means I need to have a great relationship with a great Vet. Coventry animal hospital is a state of the art facility with equally exceptional doctors, vet techs & receptionists. Dr. Sam Lester went above & beyond with my 3 year old Dachshund Dante. I took him for his annual shots and 5 days later to have his teeth cleaned. Naturally I was concerned about Dante having to "go under" while having his dental work, but Dr. Lester was great. He called me himself after the procedure was done to tell me Dante did well & was ready to be picked up. He didn't have the receptionist do it for him. Little things like Dr. Lester's call stood out for me. In addition, I never felt rushed with either appointment & Dr. Lester was very knowledgeable with any/all questions I had regarding Dante's care. Coventry Animal Hospital is very conveniently located off of 95, competitively priced with surrounding vets & impeccably clean. I really liked that they took the time to listen to our cats story when I first called to set up an appointment. They were very interested and seemed very caring to our pets needs. We were given an appointment the next day which was great. The location was easy to locate with good parking. The office is spacious and comfortable. I cannot express enough how amazing this facility is! Their mission is to fix and better the life of your animals at a minimal expense. I've frequented numerous facilities but this one is the best in terms of service and being economically friendly. Simply amazing staff! Drs are extremely knowledgeable , efficient and compassionate. Staff very friendly and helpful. Super clean, and not too expensive for routine care. All types of exotic animals are seen here but I can only speak for my dog and two cats care. I recently had to make that awful decision to put my elderly dog down. The staff was so compassionate and eased our family's concerns and were so understanding. I cant thank them enough. read more

I had an emergency and had to take my girl here for a C-section. I went to another hospital first and they wanted $3000 for everything she needed done. I said no way and they referred me to here. The doctor was great and staff up front was great as well. I wish they were closer so I could use them for my primary vet, but I live a little too far. But I will continue to use them for my girls for their prenatal care and C-sections. So happy to had been referred here. :) LOVE LOVE LOVE this vet~! read more

By far the absolute worst animal hospital in Rhode Island! They misdiagnosed a respiratory infection in a nursing mother causing two puppies to die and almost the entire litter they use staples instead of stitches to close unnecessarily another litter two puppies died at the hospital with no explanation whatsoever it's unsanitary they do notClean room so your pet will catch something else other than what they were therefore they perform a C-section but have no aftercare what so ever available for the mother or puppies in case of emergency they take your money and tell you good luck and send you on your way absolutely disgusting !!! Top notch service. Our dog had a foreign body that was stuck in his intestine. We brought him to Ocean State Emergency and found this out on a Saturday. They wanted $4200 for the surgery to remove it and his care. We took a chance and took the dog home as we felt this was high. Thankfully, we saw Coventry Animal Hospital was open on Sundays and we called. Dr Hank was the nicest and most professional Vet we have come across. Long story short, he was able to do the surgery that day and followed up with us later in the day and next morning. The fee was 1/4 the cost of the other place. We highly recommend this honest and professional Vet for any needs !!! read more
