one of Bob's amazing breakfasts! Not pictured: fresh, oven-warm blueberry muffins!

We had an incredible stay at the Coveside Bed and Breakfast and highly recommend it! It was in a beautiful location with a vast lawn that oversaw the ocean and had scattered Adirondack chairs, hammocks, outdoor seating, and a wonderful view of the sunrise/sunset from the rooms themselves. The host Bob was amazing -- he was warm and welcoming when we arrived, has a vast knowledge of the area which he outlines in detailed binders, and most importantly is an absolutely fantastic chef! The breakfasts were better than any restaurant and made of locally sourced products. The rooms were beautiful and well maintained with AC, and he had bikes and kayaks available to use for free. He also offered to set up games like cribbage and cornhole when he saw we were playing cards, and was constantly trying to improve our luxurious experience. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return!

    beautiful view of the cove

THE VIEW is the draw here. The cove leads to the bay....and the beautiful trees and lawn frame everything else. It's the kind of picture-perfect view that makes you dust off your watercolor paints and channel your inner John Singer Sargent. CAROLYN AND TOM are the other draw. They are fantastic hosts, they are warm and friendly but also know to leave you alone when you want your peace and quiet. They let the wonderful house, the breakfast and service speak for themselves. They're the kind of hosts that 10 of 10 people will say "They were perfect." There are a lot of B&Bs out there that people will say "This place was great BUT..." The reason no one has any caveats when mentioning Coveside Inn is because of Carolyn and Tom. Some other reasons to go... The breakfast makes it a destination itself. Carolyn whips up wonderful fluffy pancakes and bakes amazing muffins along with other treats. Ingredients are always the best of what's around locally and you can taste the love and care that goes into each meal. It has none of the cheesiness of typical bed and breakfasts... the decor is tasteful but still keeping at its country theme. The building is new-ish (10+ years?) and not a historical building but it has all the charms of an old house. Every thing is CLEAN. Nothing looks worn out, rusted or fading. The walking distance Five Islands Lobster Company is the lobster shack of your dreams. It's what you expect it to be in movies or magazines. And the lobsters are good. Really good. No doubt tricked in your brain to think it's better because of this "I'm in a romantic movie shot in Maine" feel. We've stayed many times and we'll keep going back.

Great place to stay. Free state park pass, which you should use. Probably the best pancakes I've ever had.

Oh & sunsets? Outstanding! Our first moments at Grey Havens were so warm & welcoming. Actually even before arriving, calls with innkeepers, Ali & Carlos, had us beyond excited for our initial stay. I say initial because of course we definitely will return & soon I hope! I could list endlessly all the delightful elements that the Grey Havens team have combined to create a place in which one can truly & gloriously unwind. From the lovely & cozy guest rooms to the gorgeous bay-windowed common room (with its stunning actual bay-view) the vibe is marvelous. Grey Havens feels quintessentially seaside Maine with just the barest but perfect touch of some lovingly placed & demure whimsy to intrigue a curious eye. Our initial stay dates did not overlap with Blue's calendar, sadly. However the many tales we heard of Chef Esau's creations have us drooling in anticipation. We will ensure we enjoy a dinner at Blue upon our return to Grey Havens.

We had a party of 7 and everyone commented on the tiny portions for the price. I had the NY Strip and expected at least an 8oz piece of meat. Rather I received 4-5 "slices" on a scoop of mashed potatoes. Is this a sign of the times choosing profit over quality ? Sure seems that way. I hope Carlos can reassess the direction of this once delightful restaurant by the sea.

The menu is brilliant, innovative and different from anything you will find in the region. Each element of each dish has been carefully thought out and come together to form and perfect bite. Forget your standard protein, starch and veg, Chef Nathaniel's plates are all beautiful works of art that harmoniously tantalize the tongue. We started with the Red Mussels, corn bisque, sweet pea ravioli, gazpacho, and tuna tuxedo special, as well as a mozzarella flat bread for my 6 year old dining companion (he devoured the entire flat). The menu offered two variations of mussels, a traditional white wine and garlic preparation and the red, which we tried, and they were some of the most delicious and different mussels I've ever had, including tequila, cotija cheese and tomatoes. Once we finished the mussels we ordered another serving of bread just to sop up the sauce (we used the bread for the pea ravioli pasta sauce as well!) Delicioso!!! I'm always excited to try a fresh house made pasta and these ravioli most certainly did not disappoint! Prior to the meal the head chef came out and explained to us the 288 lb fresh tuna that he was breaking down, accompanied with a Tuna Special Menu. We ended up getting the tuxedo tuna and I only wish I could have tried everything special, yummm!! For mains we got the scallops, the veal, the seared tuna special meal, the halibut and the crab cakes. Everyone was so stuffed by the end but there was nothing left on a single plate. Across the board, the flavor combinations were innovative and scrumptious. On top of being the most delicious food in the region, the atmosphere is the tops. Whichever level you are seated on provides you with a glorious view of the ocean and as the cheery staff bustled around we were serenaded by James Taylor-esque guitar and vocals. Everyone working there seems happy and helpful and BUSY! not too busy however to make sure you are taken care of. Thanks to the Henry and the manager for excellent and attentive service AND the dessert and drinks!! Do yourself and favor and try this one of a kind, elevated Maine cuisine! I've never left a restaurant in Maine more satiated. You go Newagen! Chef Nathaniel keep it soigne!!!

Service was a tad slow, but we managed. I opted for some lobster bisque, crabcakes, and the Lawnmere flatbread. The soup was pretty good. There were large chunks of lobster in the soup. The garnish was a nice addition. The crab cakes were ok. The lacked a little flavor for me. The corn salsa was pretty good! The Lawnmere seemed like a good idea on the menu, but oddly it lacked flavor. I had high hopes for this flatbread. I feel like we missed a mark here. The crust was great. My key lime pie was delicious. The coconut really added to the dish. My son devoured his pub burger and had no complaints. My husband said his calamari and fish tacos were ok. The heirloom tomato salad was the best. The arugula has a nice taste to it along with the layer of ricotta cheese under it all. The flavors really blended well with this dish. The bathroom was 10/10 for me they had a theme and ran with it and I love it. The lobster themed wallpaper really made it overall we had a nice lunch. Nothing spectacular. Maybe dinner is the meal to have here. We went at 2pm for a late lunch early dinner.

I had never been to Boothbay Harbor before, so decided to look there for a place to stay. Of course, finding a place to stay in Boothbay Harbor the week before 4th of July weekend can be a difficult task if you don't have a large amount of money to spend on your lodgings. So after some Googling, I found the Ship Ahoy. Not really in town, but also not too far off. I really liked the fact that their peak rates don't start until July 1 (we stayed there the night of June 29), and it was only an extra $20 to have a room right on the water instead of in the main building of the motel. We were worried when we showed up that evening and the fog was so thick we couldn't even tell there was an ocean right next to us... luckily it had cleared by morning and we awoke to a gorgeous Maine coastline! (See the pictures I added.) As others have stated, this is definitely a motel. The main office smells a bit musty/moldy, and the beds are not the most comfortable things out there. The bathroom was something straight out of the late 60s. But for the price and the view, it was a great find and I would stay there again. They also have a coffee shop/diner on the grounds (only open from 7:30-10 AM, if I remember correctly!), but we didn't have breakfast there so I can't say much about it.
