Adler Cottage is definitely not ADA friendly. There are 15 wooden stairs outside to climb in order to get inside or a steep incline on uneven ground to enter by the back door. Since there was no mention of this on their website and I had emphasized " first floor bedroom " as being necessary, we ( husband and me with walking canes and daughter and husband) arrived to what looked like an impossible situation. After much discussion with the check-in person and no alternatives suggested, plus a large deposit made for 3 nights, we decided to try it. It was so difficult to get up and down the stairs, it affected our entire trip...carry out meals, one daily trip up and down for husband and me, son-in-law hauling luggage, groceries, etc up stairs, etc. Once inside, the cottage is nice, roomy,private,clean and functional. There are 2 master suites with balconies...one downstairs and one upstairs. Downstairs there is a living /dining area ( with tv), and full size kitchen ( bring your own coffee or tea). Upstairs there is a third small room with a queen bed and free washer and dryer and a " hangout out" area with couch, games, etc. The food was delicious. We had breakfast served so had to reheat some items in the microwave. Really enjoyed the morning smoothies. Afternoon cookies are a must; different homemade cookies each day. This place is ideal for able-bodied people but definitely not for those who have mobility or balance issues. read more

Mold!! We arrived after a long day of travels only to find mold in our room. We had to find new accommodations at 10pm. Not an easy thing to do in a sleepy beach town. Health hazard and horrible experience. The rooms are outdated and filthy, to boot, just in case mold isn't enough to deter your stay. read more

We have stayed at the Five Gables Inn several times in the past. So we had no hesitation booking the cottage for our child's 20th birthday weekend. While the cottage is beautiful and has a great view, the overall experience is severely lacking and it's simply not worth what you pay. First and foremost, the breakfast was mediocre on the best day and completely inedible the last day of our stay. They deliver it to you, as opposed to you eating in the dining room. It's packaged like leftovers and is lukewarm at best. The worst part is the food is not good. It used to be the best part of the stay. Onto the cottage itself. It's sparsely furnished and not conducive to more than two people having a conversation, unless you want to sit at the dining room table. There should at least be coffee and tea provided since the guests inside have this provided in the common area. Unless you are planning to use the hot tub during the day, it's useless. There is no lighting whatsoever near it. And the "view" is of the woods in the backyard. We stayed for 4 nights and were not provided with enough toiletries or clean towels. This is not advertised to be a bring your own everything accommodation. We loved the previous stays with Steve and Susan. The new owners don't even come close to living up to the previous experience. We won't be back. read more

We stayed for 2 nights at the inn recently and found it to be lovely. The views of the bay from the front porch were amazing. We did however feel a little unwelcome when we checked in. The guy checking us in did not really greet us and acted like it was a chore to tell us about the inn. Also our room lock did not work, we were proved with a key instead. Breakfast both mornings was pretty good (although one of us is not a big mushroom fan so the quiche on the 2nd day wasn't a big hit). We had an incredible stay here - Steve, Susan and their team were wonderful. The inn is small and cozy - VERY tranquil. The views of the bay are stunning, and the rooms are clean, bright and well-appointed. The porch and common areas are cheery and are a beautiful place to have a drink or breakfast, or even just relax. The fifth star is really about the experience that Steve and Susan have assembled - they are warm, welcoming and accommodating. The little touches, like the afternoon teas, or the evening ports and wine, are thoughtful. But the breakfast - holy smokes !! The food was amazing. There was such a variety of choices, and it was impossible to not eat every dish that was set out. This is a quiet and peaceful stay, located in a sleepy part of the island. if you want hustle and bustle, this probably is not the right spot. If you want a spectacular locale with top notch service and a New England coastal vibe, all in a relaxed and peaceful place - this is it. My wife surprised me with a Puffin Tour out of Booth Bay and almost randomly picked Five Gables Inn. We were very surprised by the charm of this inn. The personal touch In decor and attention to gardens and the comfort of guests was remarkable. Our room had a wonderful reading nook in a gable with beautiful views of the cove and a great cross-breeze. The wrap around porch with rocking chairs, tables, even a hammock was a great place to sit and watch the quiet bay away from the bustling down town area. There were books to read, games to play, maps to look at, and afternoon tea and evening treats for guests make this a very welcoming place to linger. Anyway, the breakfast was top notch - more of a culinary experience really yet filling, and the service was great! You can even get Susan's recipes in a cook book, which we did. If you are looking for a Maine B&B for vacation look no further. 5 Gables Inn is a very special place. This was our second visit and we stayed for five days. Everything was fabulous. The breakfast was delicious and kept us going all day. Late afternoon tea and warm homemade cookies were a great pick me up after a day of sightseeing. I'm the first person to write a review - the pressure is on! My husband and I just got back from our honeymoon - a couple days of which we spent in Boothbay at Five Gables Inn. The Inn is in a great location! While in Boothbay, it's not down in the super touristy area so it's much quieter and relaxed. There's also a dock that you can use to jump off and go swimming. The Inn is absolutely gorgeous and the wrap-around porch is a great feature. The owners are very helpful, fun, and easy to talk to, as are the guests! Breakfast is served from 8-9:30am, which was a little tough for an early riser like me. Apparently I'm not so good at just relaxing in the mornings :) But it was worth the wait. There was coffee and juice, and a wide variety of food served. Sweet and savory, healthy and maybe not so healthy, but everything was made with quality ingredients. It was honestly the best food we ate in the area. The only thing that was tough for us was being there during the week-long, 90+ degree heatwave. There are window fans in all of the rooms, but no AC. Any other week I think it would have been fabulous, but we are used to having central air and it was a little warm for us. We'd definitely love to go back when the temperatures are back to normal! We were lucky enough to enjoy a short retreat at the Five Gables Inn, and had a wonderful time. The room had a cozy fireplace, huge bed and a view of the ocean! We met some of the other guests and had quality conversations over afternoon tea and breakfast. The food was the biggest surprise - amazing homemade breads and jams, quiche and pie. Nice views, but new owners have not kept up the house, it was clean but the mattresses and bedding were old and had a musty smell because all the windows are open no air-conditioning. And all the furniture was just missed matched pieces. The breakfast was served buffet style and if you were not there at 8 o'clock serving time, the food was not hot because they do not put it on warmers. The food was just okay. read more

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Five Gables Inn. We stumbled upon their website while planning our trip to Boston and Maine. Our stay at the Five Gables was probably the highlight of our trip. After a busy 4 days in Boston the Five Gables was the perfect place to wind down and relax. Awesome! Loved our stay and it was our first time. Glad we were not in the mix of all the town. It's just a 5 minute car ride away. The owners Susan and Steve are lovely. The breakfast well if I had a private jet I'd fly there in the morning to have Susan's fabulous breakfast. We had to leave early in the a.m. when our trip was over so Steve packed us a care package for our early morning departure. The Inn is clean, beautiful and quaint. There is a dock for swimming and lots of hiking trails. I would highly recommend staying here after a day in the town. read more

We stayed at Five Gables Inn in late July 2016. At first, we were at bit nervous about staying outside the Boothbay "downtown" area, but we were won over with the gracious hosting of Steve and Susan and also from Eric who greeted us on our arrival late in the afternoon. You will appreciate the quiet location, and the city is just a few minutes away. Steve directed us to a beautiful loop road to Ocean Point in East Boothbay. We parked the car and walked around admiring the houses and shoreline views. Breakfasts are Five Gables are delicious and the interaction with other guests is very amiable. We had to leave early on our last morning and Susan fixed us scones to eat. Very nice! Also, their tea in the afternoon and cordials at night are not often found, so that was especially nice. The weather was a bit warm (not our hosts fault), and they only have window fans. But we got used to that. read more
