DO NOT SEEK OUT ANY DENTAL CARE AT THIS TERRIBLE PRACTICE. My husband was advised to get a bone graft done. The office was not currently providing general anesthesia because they were low on that supply. We were misinformed by one of the office workers, Heidi Jaramillo, that this procedure can be commonly done without general anesthesia. She reassured me of this at least three times in a matter of three days before our scheduled appointment even after I expressed that my husband was concerned about doing it without general anesthesia. She reassured us that the local anesthesia and Valium combo would be enough so that "he wouldn't feel it". Due to our demanding and limited schedules, we took her word for it and decided to schedule the treatment to get this procedure completed for my husband. When we were at our scheduled appointment, we were completely shocked, disappointed, and upset to hear directly from Dr. Kayali that he would prefer for his patients to have general anesthesia when undergoing this procedure and that that is what is most common. We decided to not move forward with the treatment because why would I subject my husband to that experience and that risk. We rearranged our entire personal schedule and I had taken the major inconvenience of having to take the day off work to take my husband to this appointment. How disappointing it is to waste that time (the little time that I have in life) to then walk away without what we needed to get done for his dental health. Oh and not to mention, my husband ended up taking Valium FOR NO REASON AT ALL and was left lethargic all day. In a 1:1 direct, face-to-face conversation with Dr. Kayali as we were deliberating on whether or not to continue and when we expressed our disdain for Heidi, he admitted that his office staff basically "don't know what they're talking about". He put his hands in a "chokehold" gesture implying like he's stuck with this staff (because Abby, his wife did also confirm they are understaffed). Abby's offer to make this situation right for us was equally as insulting (a measly 10% off of our out of pocket costs which wouldn't even cover the gas to and from the office). By the way, I have had multiple phone interactions with Heidi over the course of the last several weeks and she is rude, curt, short, and disrespectful every single time. She just wants to get you off the phone. She has not business providing any kind of customer service. So you've got a business owner who is basically saying they are going to just be okay with the unsatisfactory customer service that is provided to patients. ELDERLY ABUSE AT THIS LOCATION. They take advantage of the elderly! They do not take insurance. If you plan to go here, go someplace better! They repeatedly call elderly who have not made an appointment to convince them to have a consultation and tell them about the 150$ charge after you see the orthodontist for 2-4 minutes! All this office wants is easy money & they confuse the elderly in order to get it! Office management horrible. read more

I came here with a periodontal abscess but unfortunately was given an incorrect diagnosis for a very expensive surgery that did not get rid of the abscess at all. After waiting for weeks after surgery, I was then recommended to see an oral surgeon for possibly extracting a wisdom tooth to rid the abscess. Thankfully, I instead went to get a second opinion and they were baffled that I was not given a thorough check to determine that all I needed was a root canal-- not surgery and nothing to do with my wisdom teeth! They were also concerned of the first suggestion being surgery and not checking other steps to be sure. I ended up going to get a root canal done elsewhere and the abscess was gone immediately. I did appreciate how kind the front desk staff was and they were always extremely helpful, but I was very disappointed that the lack of a clear examination from Dr. Kayali resulted in me going through a stressful time of an unnecessary surgery and outstanding medical bill. *Came to covina location but also visited san dimas for x rays read more

ELDERLY ABUSE AT THIS LOCATION Do yourself a favor and don't come here. My grandmother called for information regarding a consultation but then was made aware that this location does not accept insurance. After respectfully declining due to inability to pay the service, the office receptionist called the following day stating that my grandmother had an appointment at this location. My grandmother was confused but the receptionist making the phone call said that she made an appointment. My grandmother makes plenty appointments (doctors, dentists etc since she needs work done and is in the area, she makes appointments all within the same week so her grandchildren/ son will be able to take her) and though she was caught off guard, she assumed she just forgot about it. After going to the location & speaking to the orthodontist for five minutes (no services done), the receptionist told her that 150$ was owed. My grandmother confused since she doesn't go anywhere where they don't accept insurance was caught off guard. ELDERLY ABUSE AT THIS LOCATION. My grandmother did not confirm an appointment or set a time to go but they repeatedly called her until she answered to tell her that she was set to see the orthodontist. This location takes advantage of the elderly! Do NOT come here. She refused services since she was made aware they do not accept insurance and the receptionist still called her to persuade of an appointment! As I sat in the dental chair I felt my heart beating fast, my anxiety increasing. The assistant put a blood pressure cuff on me and a pulse oximeter and began taking my blood pressure. While it was being taken she asked me if I had been drinking water. I told her I had not been since the fasting period because I was told not to eat or drink anything for 6 hours prior to the procedure. She immediately responded with "Aren't you a nurse? You should know this". To which I responded that yes, I am a new nurse of 6 months and was very anxious about the procedure. She then took a water bottle she saw out of my personal bag and handed it to me to drink some. When I finished that, she handed me a cup of water and told me to drink it too. Meanwhile, the blood pressure machine was taking readings constantly, Each reading being higher and higher. I watched my blood pressure get as high as 150/109. And my heart rate went as fast as 122 bpm. I told the assistant that I don't think my blood pressure is going to get better if it keeps retaking without waiting a minute or two between readings. She then bluntly said "correct". But did not adjust the machine. Then the doctor Kayali came into the room and immediately started with the IV insertion. He got one successfully in my right hand, which was painful, and when I made a slight noise, he said "what, did I hurt you? No, I got the IV , say thank you" to which I said thank you for getting it on the first try. Meanwhile he did not explain any of the procedure to me at all, neither did the assistant since the moment i got there or into the room. Then I watched him push Versed medication into my IV rapidly, without warning me or telling me how it would feel, I started to feel sensations all in my body of the drug taking action. I was not put to sleep, I was awake and anxious still. The doctor then immediately lowered my chair back and began the excruciating procedure. He put numbing injections into my mouth and began the procedure right after that. I felt every pain, cut, pull, of the procedure and I cried nonstop the entire time. I tried to ask for more numbing or sedation but they would tell me to "Be quiet. Stop crying. There are other patients here. Open wide!" and continued what they were doing. I could not help crying as I felt everything they were doing, and knew exactly what they were doing. I was not sedated or put to sleep and I definitely was not numbed properly. The procedure was roughly an hour long and Carson said he could hear me crying and screaming from all the way down the hall in the lobby where he was waiting. The front desk ladies told him that was normal and asked him if I had a low tolerance for pain. Immediately when the procedure was done, the doctor left the room and the assistant girl told me "it's over now, you can stop crying!", she said with an attitude like everything else she spoke to me that morning. She then stood me up from the chair, and escorted me out the back door of the office immediately into Carson's car. The doctor NOR the assistant told Carson how the procedure went, or any advice to what to do that day and the following days. The front desk ladies also did not provide us with any paper on directions. I was still crying, awake and in pain when I sat in Carsons car and told him everything that happened. We left that place both upset. I phoned my dad immediately to tell him how traumatized I was from the whole thing. Then after I got home I had to wait 6 and a half hours to receive my pain medication and antibiotics. So I had to wait at home in pain, shivering, shaking, unable to pee due to shaking, and wait for my medication. I am very upset for many reasons that are told in this letter. I feel as if I wasn't given proper treatment for this procedure. Many people I have talked to who have had this procedure at other offices have told me that they don't remember a thing from it and that the staff were nice and comforting. This place made me feel like a BURDEN for being a patient there. I felt as if they wanted me out of there ASAP. I also had to spend $500 out of pocket for sedation, which they said was not covered by my insurance. I spent the $500 in hopes that I would be sedated and not have to experience what I went through. I am furious. I have also NOT received information on if I need to return to the office to get any stitches removed. read more

My girlfriend came in to get all of her wisdom teeth removed today. Let's just say the experience was horrible. The receptionists were very nice but the dental assistants were a joke. Nobody explained to me, her caretaker for the day, the procedure and how they were going to sedate her or anything for that matter. One dental assistant got upset that she had not drank enough water before the procedure because it becomes harder to find a vein. She stated how my girlfriend is a nurse and she should know that already which made her feel very bad about herself. The procedure was roughly and hour long and I could hear her crying and in pain while I was sitting in the lobby. After the procedure, my girlfriend came out crying nonstop and was very upset with the service she received. She was basically able to tell me everything that went on in the room. She was not sedated well at all as she felt constant pain throughout the procedure. She has bad anxiety and let them all know that ahead of time but it did not seem to be a problem to them. They just continued with what they were doing. She also asked if they could give her more medicine for pain during the procedure but they told her they had already given her enough. It was an absolutely terrible experience for both her and I. It is not fun to have to sit in the lobby and hear the person you care about the most going through so much pain when she shouldn't be. The nurses even told her to quiet down because there were other patients there. As I was sitting in the lobby I began to wonder whether or not she was getting her wisdom teeth removed or if she was being tortured. It sounded that bad. The dental staff is a joke and need to find a new job or get additional training to better be able to comfort their patients. She did tell me Dr. Kayali was the nicest one there besides the receptionists and did a good job overall. As for the dental assistants that work with him, they are a big problem. I've never seen a place treat their patient so poorly during a procedure. I found it weird that I was not even informed after the procedure by Dr. Kayali or one of the assistants in the room with her with how it went and what the next steps should be. All of that was done by the receptionist. Customer service seems to be nearly nonexistent here. This dental office needs to get it together. Especially the dental assistants. Nobody should have to go through so much pain for this procedure. She is very traumatized by her experience. I don't recommend going here if you are looking at getting your wisdom teeth removed. read more

I had my four wisdom teeth removed and though we had a little bit of a problem finding my vein for the anesthetic, ultimately we settled for local anesthesia and had it all done in less than an hour. My ambulatory operation went smoothly did not feel any sharp pains or aches after the surgery. The office was very kind to suggest medicines and care at home. I stumbled upon Covina Periodontics by accident last week through a referral. I had a bad tooth infection and was in so much pain and needed an emergency extraction. I went to my regular dentist in Baldwin Park, but they didn't have the means to put me under so I asked if they knew of another place. We tried a few places but none could accommodate me. When we finally contacted Covina Periodontics, they were able to take me in right away!! So first off, the staff was incredible. Cindy helped me get all my paperwork done quickly and she was amazing. She could tell I was in pain, nervous and anxious so she kept the conversation going and joked around with me a bit and she totally put my mind at ease. She explained everything, the process, and she outlined what would be covered by my insurance and she made it make sense (because we know it can be confusing ya'll). When I saw Dr. Kayali, I immediately felt I was in good care. His demeanor was extremely pleasant from the moment he shook my hand (and I could tell by his handshake his hands were really steady, which is important considering he was going to perform surgery on me) so I felt comfortable. He assessed the situation and knew exactly what to do. They put me under and what seemed like the next minute, I was awake again and the extraction was over! I felt no pain whatsoever and was feeling pretty good with the meds haha. What a relief because I was legit worried that having my tooth yanked out of my head would result in more pain and a long healing process. But it was so much better; I no longer wanted to rip my face off from the pain I had experienced before. My followup appointment was this past Friday and the Doc gave me a great report card; I'm healing nicely and he said he's never seen such a beautiful gap where a tooth used to be (blush) but I think he might say that to all his patients. We then put a plan in place for an implant, plus I got to chat with Cindy and Heidi at the front desk again and we continued joking around, which was a bonus. This place has a great energy and the people here really do care about their patients and what they are doing. Overall great experience. Sorry to say, I'm breaking up with my old dentist in Baldwin Park. No hard feelings but it just wasn't going to work out; I feel like Covina Periodontics just 'gets me'. Anyhow, I highly recommend Covina Periodontics and will be going to them from now on for all my dental needs. Highly recommended!! read more
