Since switching over to the new shop it's really gone down hill. The place is too crowded, and there isn't enough room to walk around, let alone push a stroller. The playroom is lacking, and it's always hot inside. The ice cream's good, but not enough to be jammed inside like sardines. read more

Great ice cream. Daughter loves this place. Not pet-friendly however, such a shame. We brought our dog in with a carrier and were not told until the last person in our group was served that we had to leave b/c of the dog. They were well aware that we had the dog when we ordered and paid for the ice cream. Would had respected the management more if we were told before they accepted our money. The ordering area is surrounded by tables to eat your ice cream or sandwiches.They have a train track at the ceiling edge where a train goes all around the cafe. In the back of the building they have fixed it up like a little barn yard for the kiddies to play on a tractor or sit on a cow.while parents can sit at real tables. In the dining area is where the gift shop is . It has everything COW you could possibly want and more.Its a fun little stop that is not just kid friendly but adult. Hopefully you wont be seeing black spots when you leave. Prices are reasonable and the sandwiches are good, but the sides are a bit of a joke.Often when you go in they have just baked up some fresh popcorn in the big kettle.Smells so good. We came in around 8pm on a Friday night. The cow decorations were charming, but they were running low or completely out of most of the ice creams on their menu. I ordered a scoop of mooey cowphooey and cowppacinno (sp?) and they were both delicious. The prices weren't bad at all, and they had a lot of other items on the menu. read more

What a great place for a quick lunch. Down Town New Bern has lots of wonderful restaurants but this is the only quick food not fast food just good and quick we shared a steak and cheese and after it was served at the table the owner released two people were sharing the sandwich and brought over an extra plate very classy on her part the ice cream is great just great not sure but I believe they make it themselves. Today my husband and I went to the Cow Cafe for lunch. It would have been our 1st time. We walked up to the counter and the young man asked to help us I said we needed a minute to look at the menu. He told my husband he would give us menus to take to the table. When he gave the menus to my husband he said he would come and get our order. We decided what to eat and waited as they served other ice cream customers. Since he did not come over after he finished with those customers, my husband walked up to the counter to place our order. The same young man said he would come over to get it. So my husband sat down again. Another employee (female) was cleaning off tables and walked by us more than once while we had menus in front of us and clearly were looking for someone to take our order. Another mature gentleman/manager ? Owner? was also present in the front of the store. We waited as a few more ice cream customers were served. We waited while the three of them were talking and still no service. My husband then said we were ready to order and the same you man said to come up to the counter. After being told twice to wait to have our order taken at the table, and wasting 15 minutes, we decided this was not the kind of service we wanted to experience and left. Not one of the three people even asked us if anything was wrong when we left even though my husband stated out loud it was ridiculous that no one wanted to take our order. We are residents of New Bern and frequent other local restaurants. We won't be back to the Cow Cafe. read more

I work downtown and never really have the time to walk around and go exploring. I had some downtime, so my husband joined me for a walk and we found this gem! We lunch and got our food super quick. Everything was fresh and tasted great. The staff was really sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. When we were done we got some of their amazing ice cream to go. Love this place!! I'm just visiting the area this weekend and found this little place. It seems to be a fun environment for children and I love that the main seating area is separate from these play room. I tried the "Greek Cow" which was delicious. I plan on visiting this place again while here in New Bern. I did not try the ice cream this time but definetly will next trip!! read more

Love this place for young kids. The food I've had (Cuban Cow sandwich) is good as well. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the staff last time I went was less than friendly. The man was actually pretty disgruntled and didn't answer me when I asked the sides and ignored me when I asked something else. In the past usually the staff was just ok, usually teens pretty indifferent. Also they do birthday parties and if they have one and you come with kids they can't play back in the play room bc they close it off for the party. You never really know when someone is going to have it rented which is a real bummer for my kids. read more

Great place for kids. Small play area in the back for younger kids (2-5 maybe). Quaint ice cream place, but the sandwiches were good too. Hubby said it was the best turkey sandwich he's ever had. Lucky Cow Cafe and lucky me. After walking around for a while they were the first food place to have my business. It was more out of necessity than anything else. I ordered a chicken wrap and a side of pasta salad. They forgot the sauce on my chicken wrap so it was pretty plain. Other than that the food was good as well as the price. They have a pie display and it worked to their advantage since it was so tempting. I would recommend a slice of the caramel apple pie. read more

We had lunch. It was a little busy and they only have one register. Don't go at lunch time if you're in a hurry. I had the Greek sandwich, tasted average a little on the messy side. I finally got a chance to take my kids here and it's a cute little place to go. The lunch food is pretty average but their ice cream is what you should go for. This time we just got a scoop of ice cream, but next time I plan on going for just the ice cream and ordering one of their bigger desserts. I love this place so much! I used to go here all the time when I was a kid. Unfortunately I don't live in the area anymore, but my family and I used to come here every week! The owners are so sweet and the cafe itself is just precious. The ice cream is superb! The tables are always nice and clean and so is the kids' play area. Outstanding service and people here. Plus lots of cow merchandise, great for my cousin who loves cows. Family-friendly. If you're looking for an ice cream shop in New Bern, you can't skip out on this one. Today, I've been here for both lunch and evening dessert. Both were excellent. Atmosphere in this place is funky/homey and the staff is along the same track. Of all the restaurants in all of New Bern, if my kids have a vote, there's one place they want to go. In my kiddo's world, there is only one place downtown. Cow Cafe. They love everything about the atmosphere and I love everything about the Greek Cow (with extra Mooziki Sauce of course.) The price is a little steep, but not bad when you realize you're getting such good food and a place for the kids to play.
