After trying a newer coffee shop where our drinks weren't good and the food abysmal, we went to the tried and true Bella's. Since we'd eaten, we just had coffee but it was so much better. Very cute spot! This place came recommended by our ghost tour guide and it was a great place without a wait to grab a quick breakfast. We tried the oatmeal cups which were full of chocolate chips and delicious! The fruit and yogurt parfait really hit the spot too. And the blueberry iced tea was delicious. When it came out, the bagel was cold, had very little bacon, and barely any cream cheese literally about a tablespoon of cream cheese. Delicious bagels that are nice and crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. My everything bagel was very well seasoned as well. The breakfast sandwiches are the perfect size! During the very busy festival rush, the staff at Bella's Cafe & Catering really seemed to keep their cool and remained composed and kind the entire time. While the place seemed like it had a fun ambiance, the service is terrible. Got there around 2:45pm on Monday, and was in line browsing the drawing menu on the wall board. This lady asked if we were in line, since we didn't know what we wanted yet, I told her to go ahead of us. Waited forever and the lady that went in front was finally helped at 3pm. They took her order and when it was us next, the cashier said there's 'nothing I can do for you' WHAT?! What does that even mean? Finally I realized she meant they were closing. She said she was able to help the lady before us because she's been in line. We were also in line, have been before her but I just let her go before us because we were sure of our order yet. Very cute cafe we stopped into today as we went to mum fest! Hubby had to get his frappe before we walked around downtown. The staff was very kind and helpful. They make baked good and smell inside was soo good! Between coffee and baked goods you can't loose. They had cold beverages and hot beverages.. smoothies, teas just a lot to offer. This spot has a great atmosphere and aesthetic! You walk in and the feel is super cool for the area of downtown New Bern. They have great decor in this spot, I'm a huge fan of the faux plants all around the room along with the chalkboard menu and the wood paneling accent wall. We tried the Green Tea Frappe w/ Almond milk and a snickerdoodle cookie on the side and loved every sip and bite! My wife and I stopped by this cafe after church last Sunday. There were 3 women working the front. No smiles from anyone. In fact, they all looked like they didn't even want to be there. Anything we wanted to order was going to take 20 minutes. The purpose of going to a cafe is that one can quickly get coffee or something to eat. That was not the case Sunday. Until the cafe trains their staff to be more cordial and staffs it appropriately for business, we will not be back. Color us disappointed! read more

New Bern is a bit short on breakfast places. My husband and I had a wonderful meal at Bakers Kitchen but wanted to try something new the next day. Bella's is located in a wonderful old building. There is cozy furniture surrounded with plants near windows, but we did not arrive in time to claim a spot there as you might imagine. We settled at a table in the back to enjoy our meal. My husband got a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on ciabatta bread. He thought that it was a bit small but tasty. Hats off to Bella's for having vegetarian options. I selected a feta and veggie egg cup. It was full of vegetables, but I found it dry and lacking in cheese. Coffee was very good. Bella's also has lunch options. They should consider offering wine. I can imagine enjoying a mimosa on a lazy weekend morning in front of those windows. read more

I stopped in here multiple times with my wife while visiting New Bern, sometimes twice in the same day. The coffee is amazing, and their creative lattes were taste bud temptations. I had their S'mores Latte one day and their Cinnamon Maple Latte on another day. Yum. We also had lunch their, and I had a wrap that was so good I forgot to take a picture of it. I think it had bacon and cucumbers and guacamole, but again, I ate it so fast because each bite was amazing. There aren't a lot of coffee options in the area, but with quality this good, this is really all you need. I'll be back. read more

Most modern and warming coffee shop in downtown New Bern! I have been coming to New Bern since 2011 and man this area has come a long way. It is nice to see a more up to date style coming in the old town of New Bern. This shop has a cute rustic coffee shop vibe and the employees are super welcoming. They play easy jazz music and it is the perfect spot for a business meeting, to catch up with a friend, or study. Outside seating is perfect for a warm morning. The shop is perfectly located on the North end of middle street, just diagonally across from the beautiful Christ Church courtyard. If you come here more than once this is the kind of place where they will remember your name and your favorite drink, super nice people. They are nondairy friendly with their soy, almond, and coconut milk alternative options. Overall a very vibrant and homey feel to the shop and a sweet gem on middle street.
