This was a memorable visit! The Cowboy Corral is not just a restaurant, but it's where the locals (and out of towners alike) enjoy some live music. The day I visited there was a man singing and whistling tunes in the back-all the great hits that frequent the oldies station or that my grandpa used to sing. After we placed our order, the server told us that we could go check out the gift shop downstairs while we waited for our food. Of course, my wife and I wanted to get the full experience, so we headed down. We were the first people down there for the day, so we stumbled around in the dark looking for the light switches. Looking back, this is how some horror movies start, but we were gullible and went anyway. The gift shop is really just a collection of things you might find at a thrift store. Dusty dishes, clothing that people probably donated, and knick-knacks galore. It was fun to browse and get a chuckle, but there wasn't anything we felt the urge to purchase. Back upstairs, our breakfast was simple, but tasty. You can watch as the staff prepares the food behind the counter. The whole place is a step back in time several decades. A statement I make with a bit of happy nostalgia, but also a dose of uncomfortable acknowledgement of some of the décor that is not quite appropriate in today's world. (I'm looking at the "cowboys and Indians" table as well as the poem dedicated to the "hangman's tree" with nooses adorning the margins.) Sure, I'd imagine the locals will argue that it was another time and that I'm being too sensitive, but it's something I noticed. read more

This place is the definition of "Down Home!" Fresh ingredients for every bite, dish and order. Real people who are incredibly kind. After soaking in Mystic Hot Springs and spending our night in a transformed bus, someone recommended the Cowboy Corral for breakfast and I'm so glad they did! Just missed the live music that goes till 11am. Got the recipe for the homemade best chocolate cream pie I've EVER TASTED! We learned that the original owner is 95 and occasionally still comes in to help out! What a beautiful, heart warming slice of Americana! read more

The food was so good! It's crazy how well AND quickly they can make. The service was incredible, they really made you feel like family. I'm giving two stars because most of the staff were friendly, the cook however was more focused on telling me not to let my daughter touch the "expensive" fake fruit on display on the bar than cooking. My son and I are on a road trip. This was by far the highlight of our day! Glen showed us the place and shared the rich history of the building. We will always stop here when passing through. Went there last week. Quaint little place with live music the day we were there...Friday. They only serve one dish. Very small place so I get it. The pork chop was good with quite a few sides. Desert sucked. There was carrot cake dishes all made up and looked great then they gave us something like pumpkin cake which was gross. Very cheap so I shouldn't complain too much. $9 read more

It's weird how everyone raves over this place. Homemade homemade. My sausage was not from ground meat. It was out of a box. Hash browns from a box. Bread from a plastic bag, for sure. What was homemade in this meal? Oh, the eggs probably came out of a shell. Small portions too. To be HOMEMADE, you need to cut the potatoes, press a sausage patty out of ground meat, and bake some bread. Doubt I'll be back. On the plus side, the girl who served us was a sweetie. read more

There is enough ole cowboy decor to keep your eyes busy while you wait. or visit, or listen to the old cowboys early in the morning swapping politics, horse and water rights stories! A dedicated space to retro yard sale items, a few antiques and some miscellaneous items are down the steep old stairs where it has been claimed the ghosts hang out. There are musicians that provide music fitting of the corral most Wed thru Sat mornings and Friday afternoons. Serve yourself soup, salad, watermelon and then roast beef, potatoes and gravy, and large roll. Ice cream bar for dessert, plus sodas. Piano was being played. What a nice stop as we travel. Actually this is a ZERO STAR review We showed up at like before 11. Our "dehydrated personality" waitress was like... WOW... either was ON something_ or she hated her job. We all ordered simple breakfasts because we were there to visit an long time family member. Then we waited, 20 minutes later our dry waitress returns to tell us they not doing breakfast no more. BUT people 3 tables down were getting breakfast.. oookkkk.... we were offered their "Friday special"_meatloaf... no thank you!!! None of us wanted meatloaf on a hot day and especially so early in the day.. our dry waitress then just walked away without the care.. The place was cramped, old, the tablecloth, chairs and floor was sticky. And our waitress had zilch personality. I just didn't get the worm fuzzy small town feeling everyone emulates about this place. I was relieved when I finally got to usher my family out the door. read more

Unbelievable, I felt like I've traveled on a time machine, to a homy cozy place. This place has a history: it's been opened for 27 years. They serve the most common breakfast every day in the morning until 3pm. On weekends, you also can order a lunch. The prices are insanely low, like coffee or oj for $1.50; eggs and bacon $5, French toast $4, pancakes $1 each. I haven't seen anything like these in California :-) Portions are huge, one feeds two people at least. There's an open kitchen, where you can see two lovely old ladies cooking with nurture and love. Everything is made of the scratch, I mean everything. You can see cowboys and live - country singers playing songs. The most important: their waitresses, they are angels of this place, so warm and nurturing. If you happen to drive by, please come and check it, at least for the experience. I love it! read more

This is an old old country cafe! The inside is rough, but clean. It was a little warm with no AC but not too uncomfortable . The owner/ cook was a sweet elderly lady which added to the country feel of the place. The had live music which consisted of an older man seated in the back using a karaoke machine ! Fun! My husband and I both had cheeseburgers ; His with fries and mine with onion rings. Very tasty but the onion rings were grilled and not deep fried and no breading. Still good. I decided to drop into Cowboy Corral for some home cooking. I was greeted by the owner as he asked "what type of problem are we solving today?" .. I pause.. and he then said "The hunger problem, eh?" Nevertheless, it was a unique situation. ;) Getting seated at the bar I ordered the cowboy breakfast and an orange juice. The place seemed a bit empty so I figured my food would be short work. We chatted back and forth about my trip while he prepared my food. Soon enough my food was before me... Two eggs over easy, 3 slices of bacon, hash browns and toast. Yes! I made short work and it was 100% worth it. I hung out for a while and watched the place fill up. It's a bit of a neighborhood joint!
