I love this chain, I wish we had one near us because we would be there at least once a week. I've heard some friends say they vary in quality and service but of the three we have tried they were all great, the staff was friendly and helpful and our food was good. Since they are a franchise they are not identical, and each one seems to play off the local identity and try to have decor that aligns with the area as well as the bear themed stuff. They have a small gift area, not overwhelming but a few branded items and typical touristy stuff. It's cute and seems to be well made stuff. Food - Oh yea, there's food! They have a really extensive menu and breakfast is served all day. My only regret is I love tri-tip and they have it on the menu but each time I was at a Black Bear they had run out. Admittedly we had arrived very late and I'll assume it's both good and popular since all three had run out. It's worth noting that for breakfast, they have real link sausage as well as other options and the sausage is nothing that grocery store skinless junk most places serve today. I used to work here, the cook put brown gravy on fried steak when it was supposed to be white gravy, he took it to the sink and washed it off under the faucet(watched it with my own eyes) on top of that I was only there two weeks and worked around 80 hours and they went into the payroll system and adjusted things so I came up short on hours I would imagine so the managers could get their bonuses for the year ,I didn't catch it until a month later after I had left, I was in a bad spot in life and just needed a job, I will definitely shovel horse maneuver before I ever work in the restaurant industry again, and I don't trust people with my food after what I seen. read more

This was such a nice treat after a long day of hiking! We wanted a yummy simple home cooked style meal and that's exactly what this was. There was so much food and our server was really nice. This was the worst meal I've had in a very long time. Our waitress was friendly, that's the nicest thing I can say about this experience. It took over 30 minutes to get our meal. The pancakes were crusty and lukewarm, the omelette was greasy and overcooked, the hash browns were inedible because of the amount of oil, and the toast was not toasted. I'm giving 3 stars because the Employees were nice. My husband had the pesto Salmon with salad and loaded baked potato. The Salmon was drowning in pesto, nothing like the picture, he said it was ok but there was to much pesto sauce! I had the surf and turf I received very well done Shrimps (3) along with hard jelly cocktail sauce. Cold and hard Mashed potatoes ( I asked for a new cocktail sauce and potatos) the Tri tip steak wasn't great but I ate 1/2 of it, I ate the shrimp and a few bites of mashed potatoes! I haven't been a fan of Black Bear diners. We came here for Lunch. This location has got it down. Came in with some coworkers. The inside was decorated nice had plenty of booths and tables. Our waitress was awesome and took good care of us. They got the Tri tip dip sandwich and fries. I got bacon, eggs, and fries. I always order ala carte due to food allergies. This location was no exception. Omelets need to be more than a cooked egg pancake then folded over ham, cheese onions and tomatoes. We arrived at 12:30 and were greeted by a very friendly hostess. after we were seated and gave our order to our waitress that was the end of contact for 45 minutes. finally our waitress came by and said that our order was next out of the kitchen. finally after another 15 minutes she brought us out our lunch.
