I'm a student at U of O so I frequent a lot of the campus bars. Went to Cowfish as one stop for my buddy's 21st, and it is THE WORST BAR I'VE EVER BEEN TO, not just in Eugene. After getting ID checked at the door, I walked right past the guy at a table collecting the cover without noticing him and a bouncer had to ask me if I had paid. The guy tells me it's a $3 cover even though the place is maybe half full. I went back to tell my friends at the door there was a cover and the doorman told us if we were with the birthday boy we would get in free. However the guy collecting said only the birthday boy gets in free. We ended up paying $3 for no acknowledgment from either bartender and crappy music. I walked home, it was that bad. Staff needs to get on the same page, actually do their jobs, and maybe clean up the place a bit. The bouncer was nice though! read more

That ambiance of this place is cool. Its modern and fresh. It an all ages place until 5pm. Unfortunately I stopped in at 3pm and had a hankering for a beer. However some ice tea and delicious toasted Tuscan sandwich. The sandwich had turkey, provolone pesto and other goodness. I recommend you give it a shot. This place always has a cover and some of the creepiest, sketchiest people in Eugene. I actually liked this place until I got roofied here and woke up alone in a park I've never seen before. I've been yelled at by the bartender before because I asked him why he had skipped over me five times before taking my drink order. "Cowfish", a club that started from the ashes and reinvented downtown Eugene. Once friendly and welcoming, it has turned into the toxic and "lose your rights kind of club". Seems like Cowfish's good intentions have gone to trash hiring bartenders that are dealing with depression, anxiety and maybe some type of drug addiction. The music is hit or miss: amateur DJs that play weird mixes and on Saturday nights are OK but predictable. Sorry Cowfish--you have lost your ways. My advice: get drunk somewhere else, or don't tip the bartenders at Cowfish. They're too entitled to your money. read more

I could see this place being a great place to go on Fri/sat after 11. But other then that I won't bother again. I was there at 8 on a Saturday and it wad dead and there was no music playing. There aren't many places to go out dancing in Eugene so I've been to this place several times. I like the decor and the drinks are reasonably priced. The downside is it's too bright on the dance floor. Generally a dance floor has lower lighting and for whatever reason it's much less awkward to dance in lower lighting. FINALLY there's a hip bar in Eugene. I love this place and hope y'all will support it! I've only been there twice--both times for happy hour (they have GREAT $3 cocktail specials post-work). A group of friends and I went Bar hoping downtown last night. Cowfish was the most fun bar out of all of the bars in downtown Eugene. The music was poppin', the crowd was really fun and the bartenders are fairly quick. Drinks were delicious, Bathrooms were nice and dance floor was big. I went on a Saturday night hoping for some dancing but this place really disappointed me. First of all the drinks, my friends and I all ordered mixed drinks. I DO NOT advise this, their mixed drinks are the worst that I have ever had ANYWHERE. I don't know if that particular bartender just sucked or if the drinks are always awful but out of three drinks we ordered only mine was slightly drinkable. Also they were playing horrible electronica so we tried going out on the dance floor but it really wasn't worth it. The five star rating is mostly a "thank-you" to the owners of Cowfish, for installing a legitimate dance club in Eugene that is both exciting and classy. I also appreciate that they have an implied acceptance of gays, while not being too in-your-face about it. I am personally disgusted by the cesspool of sex and pornography that is usually a gay-friendly bar. This one has some class, and me and all my straight friends felt at ease here. I mean come on, we're just tryna dance. My only qualm is that top-40 songs are rarely heard (even in a remix). I wish there was a little more mainstream music to just have a good, drunk time to, but I suppose this would agitate the anti-establishment culture of Eugene. Went there on a saturday, great bar but horrible security. I had brought a ninkasi in from outside of the bar and was confronted by a bouncer, I stayed calm and respectful following his orders on leaving he threatened to drag me out by my neck and "beat my ass" as i was leaving in a respectful manner i asked if he would just calm down and he continued to threaten my life, once outside the bar i attempted to discuss this with a door staff member and she ignored me and told me to leave and that i was "bothering" her. I went with a friend today (06/30/2018) for the first time, and the experience was good, if not particularly spectacular. The music was danceable (I heard a few pretty original tracks, and everything had a good beat), there were people on the dance floor (not a graveyard, but by no stretch of the imagination packed), and the other patrons and the staff seemed friendly enough. I went there with two friends I used to work with, I ordered three shots and chaser (6 glasses) and had my beer when I ordered, so I was walking back with 7 glasses. 2 out of 7 were empty by the time I got to our table, The new guy accused me of breaking their property and I was dragged out. I went to this establishment on Saturday and when I went to close my tab learned that the bartender had given my credit card to a male person. (I clearly have a female name) The bartender then proceeded to walk away as my mouth hung open in disbelief . I had to ask him to come back and talk to me about what had happened. Who does that? He said the person said my name and last name and gave them the card. I didn't talk to one male person that night and was with a female. He didn't ask the MALE person for ID either. He didn't ask if I was going to be ok, if I had a way home, money for a cab or could he offer to call anyone. He gave me the managers name and I have yet to hear from her.I called several times and the voicemail box is full. I finally reached someone and asked for her to call me and have not heard from anyone. I am very upset that this is how they have chosen to conduct their business . If they claim it was a mistake or they were just busy, or this is the first time it had happened, that is not acceptable. That is my Bank account! With ID theft today I'm floored that neither the owner or manager has responded to me. Frankly I'm surprised how the staff handled the situation as well. Careless, flippant, and unresponsive. Beware of this place , do not go. The BBB got a full report. Why can't I give them no stars. read more

Cowfish is at first a welcome alternative to the District, yet upon closer inspection, it becomes quite apparent that Cowfish is in need of a lot of work. While they may have the best stereo system in town, only a few (2 maybe, including the owner) of the DJs are actually worth listening to. The furniture and ambiance is IKEA chic. The dance floor is the biggest, yet no one is there (21-29) to dance with, ever. This would all be fine but for the terrible customer service. On three occasions I have had bad experiences. First, the bartender skimped out a good nail's worth of gin and tonic in a lowball glass. After asking, "Really, man?" he beamed at me and picked ice up with his hand and threw it into my glass and walked away (he can't even use the excuse that he was busy, because no one was there). Second, I was almost not allowed in because I was telling my friend how the bartender skimped me last time. The bouncer said, "I don't know if I can let you in if you talk shit about my bartender" to which I replied, "What? He skimped me out. Listen, I'm just trying to spend some money." Again, no one inside. Third time, I order a pint with my girlfriend and the bartender pours it. I have a nice pint on the bar, and all of a sudden he takes it back, gives me three dollars, and escorts me out with my girlfriend without explanation. I'm guessing it is because my girlfriend is drunk, but come on, really guys? Long story short, not returning ever until they fix their attitude and realize that this is NOT LA where you can be a dick to your customers, it's Eugene where you need to build a customer base and treat them well. read more

Wow. Security is horrible! I don't know who these people are but I feel super disrespected. Myla, in particular, feels that her job is more a cop instead of a shitty nightclub security person. I have to put her name on here because she tried to steal my phone from my hands, and push me and my "tiny" friend for calling her out for being incredibly rude. Authentic and variety -- maybe two praises that don't always compute together. But the Cowfish is a Eugene original free of the pretension and corporate impersonality easily found elsewhere in Eugene. For slick corporate glitz you can go to the top of any Eugene large building or converted train station. Alternative is Cowfish: owned locally, not franchised. Perhaps supports more civic and charitable causes than any other local bar (well, I can think of a couple other contenders). Real free ping-pong / table tennis instead of put-money-in-machine video. Friendly and Eugene savvy staff. Well made and low price well drinks and beers on tap. Last night, my first visit to Cowfish since an election night party, I had a rose kombucha--don't recall brand but best kombucha drink I ever had. read more

The first time I came here, it was okay. Typical club, whatever. Second time I came, same thing. The women bartenders are really nice, they're the saving grace of this place. Third time was the last straw. Music was boring, it was maybe half full on a Saturday, but what really did it was one of the male bartenders. I wish I would have gotten his first name but oh well. Rude, horrible customer service, quite possibly the worst bartender we've ever encountered. Tried to force my husband to pay $2 for plain cranberry juice, when almost every other bar charges maybe 50 cents, tops. My husband told him he didn't want it. Didn't touch the drink, didn't drink it, said he didn't want it, a polite no thank you. The bartender proceeded to hound us throughout the club saying we owed him two dollars and ended up calling the bouncer over. A $3 cover charge for a crappy club and then calling over security because he didn't want to pay for overpriced cranberry juice? REALLY? The bouncer at least was level headed and nice about it. How many hundreds of dollars does that place make a night, and they get mad over a drink that wasn't even touched and literally costs them pennies to give out? It's not like he drank it and tried to give it back. The bartender was a total jerk. I would never recommend this place, in fact I would discourage it. Cowfish is pretty much the only place to dance in Eugene, so that is what that is. Dance under the giant fish, and peek at people through the wall with the holes in it. My friends and I have been loyal Cowfish patrons for 4 years now and always enjoy the dancing aspect when its busy. The bartenders are all really cool and do a great job serving people asap. Unfortunately those are the only good thing anymore. While they have improved the look of the place a lot over the years, the size of the place is really a detriment to the fun factor. Tiny entrance, bathrooms, walkways, a dance floor smaller than a 2 car garage and a funky set up make just getting around the most time consuming part of the night. I went there last night and to start the night off, one of the door bouncers acted like a total jerk. Then Head of security with his beard and long hair was condacending and treated me like a criminal when I was the dd and trying to keep my friends under control. When I was talking to several people outside, apparently its his way or the high way. Won't let his former roommate in. Several of the old bouncers all quit because he was doing drugs and the owners were covering it up. I want to love this place but sadly can't when I don't feel safe. If these are rumors or actually true, You should really think about what they might do to your business since people outside are all chatting about the rumors. Ping pong, pool, and bar! This was my kind of place. Essentially an adult play house. Stayed and played three rounds of pool. The place had a lot of seating for their guests, and the pool room felt very comfortable with sofas arranged against the walls so whoever was seated could watch all the games. And every Friday is freak night so bring your best costume and get in for free! read more
