Went to lunch with 3 friends and a service dog. The manager refused entrance because of the dog. We showed papers and explained the dog is a medical service dog and he wouldn't even look at the papers. Discrimination against handicapped people is against the law. Normally, if I go to a restaurant and the hostess tells me it'll be an hour and 15 minute wait, I would scream "HOW DARE YOU" in a purple-hippo-Rocko's-Modern-Life kind of way and storm out, never to return. Thankfully, my friends got to the restaurant first and were able to reroute me from what could have been a terrible, terrible mistake. The upstairs bar is absolutely magical on a warm summer night. Amazing cocktails were had by all (Might I suggest the Homewrecker or the Vespa, sub Vodka for Gin? Avoid the Low Country, which is a bit bland). The spinach artichoke dip was a great way to mitigate my extreme hunger and the extreme wait. Our bartender was super sweet, and she clearly was enamored with us when our buzzer started ringing that our table was ready, and my slightly intoxicated friend screamed WOOOO!! at the top of her lungs. Our waitress for the evening was extremely helpful, never invasive. The $8 mini salads are absolutely brilliant-- a great way to sample them without being too full for your main. I had the wedge which was phenomenal and real heavy-handed (in the best possible way) on the blue cheese. Ironically, most of us ordered beef-- burgers and steaks-- at this delightful seafood restaurant, and the burgers were some of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the special salmon with crab on top, smothered in some kind of lemony buttery cream sauce that was positively celestial. It was served with local sweet corn that tasted like summer. We were stuffed to the gills (I couldn't resist), but decided that we'd enjoy feeling bloated and driving home with our pants unbuttoned, so we ordered the warm skillet cookie with ice cream which was just UNFAIRLY good and totally irresistible. I'd also like to mention that on the way in, my boyfriend got a notification from his New York Times app about the return of syphillis (Google it, people!) and he shouted to me, "Hey, Sarah! Syphillis is back" right as we were giving the car keys to the free valet. And the valet smiled at us puzzlingly and asked-- "Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" And it was splendidly endearing. I had not been to Cowfish since before the pandemic and was very excited to eat there this past weekend. Unfortunately, our experience was subpar. We were seated right when the reservation was for which is great, but as soon as we sat down we were very rushed along the dining experience. We sat at 9:15 - there was no way our table was needed after our seating so I don't quite understand why we were so rushed. The brussel sprouts and tumbleweed roll were delicious, but the main dish was a disappointment. We order the seared ahi tuna to share and instead of coconut pineapple rice we were served something in a red spicy sauce with corn and green beans. It did not pair with the tuna and ruined the dish. The ambiance is great as are the drinks and aesthetic but unfortunately that tuna dish ruined our experience. I hope our next visit is better and we aren't rushed. read more

Loved the atmosphere on the water and the food was great! My overstuffed lobster roll (not on the dinner menu) had significantly more claw meat than I'm used to seeing in a lobster salad. The buffalo shrimp was also a great way to start the meal! I would highly recommend the "cute" salad options- I wish more places did this! My only complaint is that I was encouraged to make reservations during the happy hour time and the happy hour specials were even advertised in my reservation email reminder but when we were seated, we were told that the specials didn't apply to the dining area. I would not have gone out of my way to make an early dinner had that been explained to me when I made the reservation! It seemed silly that I could've walked a few feet to the bar for half price drinks and apps but had to pay full price at my table. read more

Watch out because our family (8-80 years) just had to try many of the appetizers- the bacon was yummy , the mushrooms disappeared and the wedge salad were gobbled up. Cowfish is the upscale sister location of RHUM and RUMBA. We got a seating indoor right by the window where we can see a beautiful view of the water. Staff is phenomenal and very attentive. The gentlemen who served us was the best, I wish I remember his name. He made sure our glasses were always full, along with making sure we were satisfied with our meal. From the meals down to our drinks, everything was amazing. After we finished eating, we took our drinks to the water side and sat by chairs and admired the beautiful boats and scenery. I was looking for a restaurant to eat by the water and came across Cowfish. Getting to Cowfish can be a little tricky. Once you get on RT 80 depending on where you are coming from the gps will tell you to make a uturn on Canoe Place Road then you have to make a right between Out of the blue seafood and Spellmans Marina, you will follow the road down where you will be greeted by complimentary valet parking at the end of the road. I will never be a fan of valet parking. I like parking my own car and locking it myself, maybe it's trust issues with trusting people with my car. Since it was a nice sunny day we decided to eat outside and enjoy the beautiful view of the marina. You get to see all the boats that go by and fantasize about buying one yourself one day. On to the food, we ordered the fried oysters to start and I ordered the blacken fish sandwich, I substituted the coleslaw for French fries and my wife ordered the smoked salmon sandwich. The fried oysters were nice and fresh, perfectly fried and the cream spinach was a nice compliment to the oysters. My blacken fish sandwich was delicious you can see and taste how perfectly it was grilled. Definitely one of the top ten best fish sandwiches I had! Kudos to them!!! My wife smoked salmon sandwich I wasn't a big fan of it tasted under cooked to me but she like it!! For dessert we decided to go downstairs where we ordered rum punch and a margarita. They have chairs along the restaurant over looking the marina where you can enjoy sipping on your drink and enjoying the view. We will definitely return to try other things on the menu! This place is still so awesome! We've been here a few times since my last review but yesterday we also go to go to their other restaurant Rumba too! Cowfish has some of the best food here on the Island and the view is so spectacular! Our waiter Michael was so great and as always the service here was the best. It was crowded when we got here for a late lunch/early dinner but we sat at the bar until our table was ready. The bartenders were very attentive and friendly and even though the bar was packed they never seemed rushed and they made sure everyone was taken care of. When our table was ready we sat upstairs where we could see all the beautiful boats and homes on the water. Our waiter came over right away and we ordered our drinks and appetizers. I had their clam chowder which was so amazing that I now know why it has won awards! My husband had the buffalo shrimp, because he has to have any food that has buffalo sauce on it and I have to say it was so delicious, I had to take one from him! For an entree I had the seared tuna which was incredibly delicious! My husband had the deviled eggs with brown sugar bacon, which is an appetizer...he couldn't decided earlier if he wanted the shrimp or the eggs so he got both :-) The eggs were so deliciously seasoned and perfectly cooked. Then he had a fish sandwich which was so great and came with the best Cole slaw we ever tasted! The atmosphere here at Cowfish is just too great for words, you have to come experience it for yourself. For such a busy place you feel so relaxed and calm...they really do such an amazing job here, both with the food and service. They also have someone walking around with a headset letting other staff know when the tables will be ready, so when they give you an estimated wait time you know exactly how long you'll be waiting. They also have transportation to their other restaurant, Rumba,(also great...will be writing about that next) and it is all handled so efficiently and in a really fun way! The boat wasn't working but they have the most colorful fun bus to pick you up, and everything is coordinated so you won't be waiting long to get back and forth from either restaurant...and the driver...I think his name was Al? sorry if it's not.... was just so nice and patient and so much fun!! I love Cowfish but wish you had someone more professional taking reservations. I booked a table for 4 and explained to the person answering the phone that I would be bringing a puppy inside a carrier. They either didn't know the policy or just didn't listen and they took my booking. When we arrived we were told of your no animals on the property policy. I totally respect your policy, but it was upsetting to drive 45 minutes to be turned away because this was not told to us when we booked, especially when I specifically asked. Thank you. read more

This place gets four stars mainly because the food and ambience are awesome. The views are awesome and the Adirondack chairs are a great touch. The outside bar is a great place for drinks on a spring or summer night. This place is the go-to place with water views in the area. That goes for Southhampton as well. Who would've thought this nice place in Hampton Bays would take the boujee Southhampton scene by storm. The service is always on point and the servers always remember your name / are very attentive. I've tried almost every item on the menu and must say it is all quite good. Items that can't be missed are the clam chowder, blackened fish sandwich, New York strip and buffalo calamari. The only reason I could not give them five stars is because the quality of the food lacks when the restaurant is busy. read more

Very pleasant experience when we stopped in this past Tuesday. Service was on point and the ambiance of the restaurant being on the water as well as the blooming hydrangeas was nice and relaxing. The item I would point out as standing out was the cornbread- best I've had. There was ample fresh corn kernels throughout and it was not dry at all which happens a lot with cornbread. The honey butter dolloped atop made it even more addicting. The Cajun fish was good and the slaw perfectly dressed- creamy and tangy. I also recommend the clam chowder. read more

Arrived 650pm for dinner for 4 on a Thursday night (they only take reservations for 6 or more) and were seated after waiting about 35 minutes, which we were warned about in advance. Unfortunately they put us in a corner of the bar upstairs, where they've shoved several, small banquette booths to (apparently) gain more dining seating. The bar was VERY loud, with a speaker blasting music right above our table, and a large group of noisy, laughing patrons drinking (as is their right in a bar). The floor smelled like stale spilled beer, and a steady breeze came through the open doors that was a bit too cold. The booth also barely fit 4 normal-sized adults. The other dining options would've been to sit outside on the decks with a beautiful view, or in the main restaurant on the ground floor, which is nicely designed. I asked the hostess if we could sit elsewhere, but she said it would be another 20 minutes wait. At that point, it was about 730pm and the teenaged kids were hungry. So we took the seats. The waitress took our order fairly soon, and she was very pleasant. The wait for food was VERY long, though (two fish dishes and two burgers). I didn't note the time exactly, but the food definitely arrived after 8pm. So it was about an hour and 15 minutes to eat after arrival. Don't arrive too hungry, or you might pass out before being served. The salmon special was good, and the swordfish special was amazingly good (10 out of 10). The Cowfish Burgers were very good, a bit sloppy, but filling. Also recommended. So 4.5 stars for the food and the waitress (and the gorgeous water views outside the restaurant), and 1 star for both the seating and the length of time it took to get a seat and to get our food. I would warn anyone planning to eat there to request that you do NOT sit in the bar, which was extremely disappointing. Unless of course you like that. The seating was so poor, a borderline joke, in fact, that I think they should offer a 15% discount to anyone forced to eat in the bar. If you eat in the main room, it's probably pleasant, and the decks are very nice (unless cold/windy). We would go back to Cowfish for the food, but not to the bar, which almost ruined the experience. The restaurant also is hard to find, btw, so check your maps carefully. read more

I called for a last minute reservation and could not get a table but the young woman that answered the phone was pleasant and gave plenty of options to still dine here that night. We were able to walk in and sit in the upper bar area without a wait. Our server was absolutely fantastic. Prompt, friendly and excellent demeanor. We ordered the Buffalo shrimp and deviled eggs (both amazing) and the only complaint was our silverware was taken away after the eggs and before the shrimp came so we had to find our own before we could continue to eat. The clam chowder was probably the best we both have ever had! I had the scallop dinner and was very disappointed in how uneven each one was cooked. Literally one was burned and worked it's way down to one being undercooked. My boyfriend ordered the NY strip and his was inconsistent by ranging from medium rare to well done. The truffle butter was delicious and saved the meal. Over all the appetizers were spot on but the main entrées we felt were over priced for the size and inconsistencies in cooking. Not being local, we weren't sure if this was the norm or just with places opening up that the main cooking was a little rusty. We would try it again but most likely stay away from the main entrées. read more
