Very disappointing experience. It started on a high note when the hostess gave us a table even though she first seemed to indicate, that without a reservation, we would have to wait an hour for a table. However, it quickly plummeted from there. It took far too long for someone to take our order. Then it took 30-45 minutes just to get our soup and salad. Then 2 hours after ordering did I finally get my entree which was ice cold. On top of that part of my order was never even put in. All of this could have been remedied if someone had acknowledged this or apologized at all that our food was so delayed. I won't be returning. read more

Had such a weird experience with the bartender here. We came for happy hour and sat down with two other folks who were enjoying their meal at the end of the bar. It was still early in the night but prime happy hour time. The bartender eventually came out to ask us what we wanted, then told us she was sorry but had to go back to cutting fruit in the back. Which is fine, you get in the weeds sometimes sure. Once she was back we put in some New England Clam Chowder, then a few more people sat at the bar including her wine rep. We'd been trying to order another round for a bit when a guy who seemed to be one of her regulars came up and ordered food to go, but no drink, which she immediately started pressing him on loudly, saying "If you don't order a drink you don't stay long, and then I'm going to be so f*cking bored here..." I guess having a bar with other people who want a drink is boring? Her conversation with this man continued and was kind of inappropriate - she talked about wanting to dropkick some kids at one point, which, what? Why? Took my Aunt for early birthday dinner and was pleasantly surprised at the accomodations and service. We had a view of the marina and as we chatted, we watched boats dock and then placed our orders. The Captain's Calamari appetizer was delightfully tender and the dipping sauce smelled and tasted delicious. My Aunt said the Shrimp and Crab Roll was very tasty and the Brioche Roll looked good as well. I ordered the Napeague Steamers and blame myself for not reading the fine print. Steamers are meant to be in broth and dipped in butter, these were in a garlic, white wine, butter sauce with no butter to dip in. (I'm fixed on how steamers are meant to be eaten and don't blame Captain Jack on this.) Next time, I think I'll try the Bouillabaisse. read more

After traveling from Montauk to Huntington we decided to find a restaurant on the way home as we did not want our vacation to end. We searched for a waterfront restaurant and Captain Jack's came up with good reviews. Decided to take a detour and give it a try. Although the food was good it's really the little things that make a restaurant a repeat destination and this place failed miserably. First they kept us waiting at the front door for 15 minutes without letting us in. However, even that I could forgive. The waitress was very sweet and I ordered a lavender martini supposedly made with lavender simple syrup and a special lavender tequila. The drink was $20.00 which I do not mind spending for a worthy specialty cocktail. It was horrible and tasted like it had salt mixed into it. I politely asked the waitress if I could get something else or have the bartender remake it. She came back to the table ( with the bartender) who proceeded to get very defensive and said she can give me another drink but I will still have to pay for the cocktail. Really? What happened to customer service and trying to make the customer happy. How much tequila could have been in the drink (along with the bitter tasting margarita mix) that they would have lost money on. Instead they lost a repeat customer. Oh well. Their loss. We still left the waitress a very good tip but whoever the female bartender who was there on Tuesday 8/5 is not helping their business at all!! We have been going here since they opened a few years ago. We love buck a shuck on Saturdays at the bar and always add delicious Caesar salad or a burger. Can't go wrong for lunch either $15 for a burger & a beer! They are now doing special menus in the summer, last night (Tuesday) is BBQ night offering pulled pork, chicken, baby back ribs, & brisket with beans coleslaw, cucumbers & a corn salad. We had the pork & ribs. We asked for the 2 sauces on the side. The Toms sauce is traditional bbq with a little heat & the chipotle glaze which I thought would be spicier was milder and was my pick. The shrimp & grits there are delicious! The grits cake is amazing!! The owner Erin always stops by to chat and is very hospitable, sometimes her fiancé Mike the chef comes out too. Saw this was a hidden gem on tik tok so decided to check it out. It should stay hidden for a reason! The food was good. The fish was very fresh you could tell. The problem at hand was the service and the drinks/ bartender. The waitress did not know a lot of things. Very slow as well. The drinks were subpar at best. Very bitter and one was disgusting. They put it on the check and we had to ask to have it taken off since we asked to take it back because it tasted like a marker. Food was great tho! Will not be back. read more

Let me start by "WOW" , the chef is a true culinary chef. My wife and I have been there several times and have never been disappointed. He has been open since the 2023 season and it's a hidden jewel in the North Sea/Southampton area. Also changes the menu up and we just stopped in and are trying the fall menu. Stop in you won't be disappointed. Staff is amazing as well. PS I highly recommend the chicken wings with sweet heat sauce. We just left the restaurant on barbecue night after sitting down and waiting 10 minutes to be told that they ran out of all the barbecue food. We asked to speak to the manager to just let her know our disappointment. We haven't been to this location in many years, but popped in last night and were so pleasantly surprised. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming. Our waiter, Matt, was perfect and really helpful regarding food, allergies and recommendations. The chicken wings were delicious and the cod was exceptionally fresh and perfectly cooked. Erin, who is one of the owners, came over to chat for a bit about the history of the place and her family's lifelong dedication to the restaurant business. We tried the restaurant a couple of weeks ago. There were 4 of us. The restaurant was only filled to 20% of capacity. There were loads of places for us to sit, We asked to sit by the window so we could see the sunset and have a view of the water. The person seating who turned out to be our waitress us told us that she wanted to spread the patrons in different areas of the restaurant. We asked if the window seats were reserved and she said no. A restaurant is a service business and the answer should be YES, We are year round residents- we don't expect special treatment but we patronize all the local eateries all year long not just in the summer. We were very disappointed that a simple wish of being seated where we wanted could not be granted. The food was good but really started off on the wrong foot. My wife and I decided to check out Captain Jack's ("Captain Jack's On the Coast" -- more on that later..) for restaurant week. It's about a 30-minute drive from our house so we made a 6:00pm reservation. We arrived a little early and saw they had happy hour so we decided to sit at the bar and have a cocktail. When we sat down we got a brief greeting from the bartender who then went back to chatting with people at the bar. There was another guy standing behind the bar so, despite him looking clueless, I asked for the happy hour menu. He handed us menus and then asked the women "is this the happy hour menu?". She informed him/us that the menus were the restaurant week menus. We were told the happy hour specials - $5 well drinks, $4 drafts and $10 wine - so we ordered our drinks. While enjoying them we overhead a conversation that the man at the bar was named "Jack." I asked "the Jack?", the answer to which was that no, he wasn't "the" Jack, "the" Jack was the bartender's father. I asked if that Jack was a captain and got a curt response that he had been a captain in the local fire department. My wife mentioned that she thought Captain Jack's was a chain at which point she was (rudely) corrected by the bartender that this place was "Captain Jack's on the Coast" We finished our drinks and headed to our table. When the waitress came over we asked about ordering happy hour wines since it was still Happy Hour and she assured us that wouldn't be a problem but returned shortly to tell us happy hour drinks were only at the bar. I think this is total nonsense and don't understand this policy. The waitress was friendly but commented that it was her first night and our experience made me wonder if it was her first night waitressing ever -- she messed up our appetizer order (fortunately the runner who brought out our order was very nice and told us to enjoy the incorrect order and that he would get our correct order out right away), we didn't see her during dinner until I flagged her down to ask for dessert menus. We also had empty wine glasses on the table that were not cleared until the waitress came over with the dessert menus. Although the food was very good, we would not make another trip due to the poor service and the less than friendly experience at the bar. If we happened to be in the area, we might give it another shot but otherwise not. read more

Dinner tonight was FANTASTIC! Clam Chowder was the best I've had, and I'm from Boston. Rich, creamy and deeply flavorful with a tiny hint of dill. Both entrees were perfection. 12 oz NY strip sirloin was tender & juicy, topped with a sherry demi-glace that truly complimented the cut. Broccolini was the perfect accompaniment with just the right amount of crunch and potato wedges were crisp on the outside, soft on the inside and piping hot. Beer battered cod was equally delicious right down to the tartar sauce. Dessert of Smores Brownie was a decadent choice shared by two but still too much to finish.
