Came here to celebrate two of my friends birthdays after vineyard hopping and had an amazing time. We all got the squid ink pasta, scallops, branzino, and a bunch of other dishes to share. This dining experience was so odd and the definition of a bait and switch. Everything we ordered arrived at the table prepared not quite the way the menu description implied. For example, we ordered the squid ink pasta with lobster bisque and shrimp. Nowhere in the description of the dish did it say that it came with baby shrimp (you know, the ones you find in salads.) Had we known that, we definitely wouldn't have ordered the dish and after trying it, I would certainly not recommend it, especially not for $42. It was bland and flavorless with tiny, mushy shrimp. Go with the ricotta gnocchi if you want pasta, it was perfect. We had read that the desserts were the star here so we ordered two. The Basque cheesecake with fig compote and the chocolate soufflé both sounded amazing. But the basque cheesecake with fig arrived as a goat cheese cheesecake with strawberries. The last bait and switch was the "chocolate soufflé" which arrived to our table in cake form. Our waiter, who at best could be described as minimally polite, turned downright argumentative when questioned. He told us that we must've gotten an old menu (we didn't, I checked on the way out) because the cheesecake had been recently changed out and also that the soufflé was in fact a "twice baked soufflé." Call me crazy but at a French restaurant when they say they are serving a soufflé, I expect it to be a traditional soufflé unless otherwise noted. We didn't eat either of them and the waiter did remove them from the bill. The highlights were the wonderful team of bus staff who served and cleared with a smile and the cocktail program. After enjoying some truly memorable meals at SS in the past, it's disappointing to see a noticeable decline in the culinary experience on our recent visits--one that no longer feels worthy of Chef Payard's name. The endive salad, which featured pears, was a particular letdown: the fruit was so under-ripe it couldn't be cut even with a steak knife. My entrée, the Amish Chicken Provençal, turned out to be a fairly uninspired breaded chicken served over mashed potatoes -on par with what you might find at a decent diner, not a fine dining establishment--and the accompanying carrots were noticeably undercooked. We once looked forward to dining at SS, but at over $200 for a dining experience that felt mediocre at best, we'll be waiting to see consistently strong reviews before returning. read more

Spent New Years Eve at Southold Social. I want to give a big shout out to Francois Payard and his team. Our dinner was great. The flirt Minton was perfectly prepared. The appetizers were delicious. And the baked Alaska for dessert was incredible! Francois came table to table and personally lit each person's Baked Alaska and watched as you blew out the flame. They also made the bar area into a dance floor and had a DJ. We danced and ate and danced some more. I really don't think there is a better restaurant on the North Fork right now. Thank you Francois for making New Years 2025 an enjoyable experience. read more

8/20/22 After a wonderful day lounging at the pool and the beach with neighbors we decided to revisit Southold Social. It was a bit late but during the summer that is normal for us. There was no seating available outside so again we dined indoors, it is a cozy intimate room. Hubby enjoyed the cavatelli so much on our last visit that he opted for the full portion for his entrée. ,On a recommendation from a neighbor I ordered the pork chop. The pork chop was perfectly cooked, served with a creamy polenta and broccolini. I enjoyed every morsel. Hubby was delighted that the pasta was as good as he remembered it. Our waitress Taylor took good care of us. As it was a bit late we did not have an appetizer or dessert but we will be returning to Southold Social with friends and I am sure we will indulge in both. read more

Oh how I wanted to love this restaurant. The staff is so professional and the outdoor dining environment was wonderful. The food just falls short. I even had the waitress guide with her recommendations. We were set for a delicious dinner but it never happened. We started off well choosing a low priced bottle of local white wine. However the local special crudo disappointed. Small portion and no flavor that really popped. It was good but nothing special. The same with the paella. I wish the menu designated which items were GF. Our dessert was very good (Heavenly Pavlova) & my wife's scallops were fine. So many details are taken care of, but they forgot to focus on the food. read more

Loved this Southold spot. Great atmosphere. Congenial service. Wonderful menu options and solid food to boot. I had the Tagine Chicken which was delicious. A side of broccolini hit the spot. Definitely found a new favorite place to add to our list! Wowee, Southold Social is GREAT!!! We had originally booked out reservation for inside, but with it being so nice outside, they were able to accommodate us in their lovely patio area which features many tables, all under an awning, and made private from the driveway with large hedges. It was almost like dining indoors but we were still able to enjoy the nice weather! Beautiful dishware and color scheme. Every worker we came in contact with was friendly and attentive. The hostesses were eager to help us find a table outside and the bus boys were frequently around to fill our waters and take plates away as needed. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely seemed to care how we were enjoying ourselves. It was nice to see both chefs occasionally milling about the dining room to greet tables. We appreciated their innovative, eclectic menu! We started with the cold soba noodle salad, charred octopus (a tentacle) over fingerling potatoes, and the tuna sashimi. All were beautifully plated and tasted so fresh and amazing! For our entrees we got the orecchiette pasta e fagioli, and black squid ink linguini with lobster bisque and shrimp. Both were absolutely wonderful but a bit on the small size for the "large" portion which we were told was twice as large as the "small" portion (I can't imagine how tiny the plate must be for the small portion!). We finished off with the deconstructed key lime pie and the chocolate dome (with touches of hazelnut). Loved them both and the creativity that accompanied them! We will absolutely return to Southold Social in the near future to explore their menu even further! I have been here twice and I think the food is great. My favorite dishes are the octopus and the gnocchi. It's a bit expensive given the portion sizes, also most recently when we went, it was a bit chilly outside, so seating there was not the most pleasant. read more

Honestly, the food was even better than it looks--it was immaculate. My only complaint is that I wish they had more dinner-sized fish options than just the branzino. I was told the sea bass and salmon are too small and more like appetizers. Not pictured, but my boyfriend and I shared the kale salad as an appetizer. It was the best kale salad we've ever had. The branzino was also the best branzino I've ever had. He got the gnocchi, but he wasn't so impressed--it was OK. Fish is the way to go here. The watermelon margarita was also very good. read more

I have to give this 5 stars. I'm not sure what the other reviews are about. We were completely impressed,. Although it looks just like a house on the outside as you turn to the back the patio seating is gorgeous and once you walk in it gets it even more beautiful. Very tasteful decor. Greeted immediately and seated. For appetizers beet salad was amazing. Tuna crudo was good but a little heavy on the ginger dressing which took away from the flavor of the fish. Papardelle was amazing. Beautifully mixed with seasoning and garnishes . Short ribs were also Amazing. Loved the flavor. Portions were perfect. For the dessert we got the chocolate cake which was good but was more of a mousse. They surprised us and put a birthday candle on ! Can't wait to show my other friends this place. read more

Where to begin, this restaurant has improved year after year since it first opened. The food and presentation are exceptional and am certain that they'll look to become even better in the upcoming years. The menu is slightly adjusted depending on which season it is, but overall is friendly and simplified. My personal favorites are the Berkshire pork chops, Amish chicken, ricotta gnocchi, and the Montauk catch. And if you didn't know then, you'll soon know shortly is that the desserts are what the Social's pizazz comes in. Quite frankly, every dessert on the menu is exceptional and is something that I look forward to at every dinner I'm there. Not to mention, the service and bartenders are very welcoming. So glad we were able to enjoy this amazing place with friends from Chicago who absolutely loved the North Fork. Chef Payard has got a hit on his hands as the ambiance and food sparkle. Charred Octopus was tender and grilled perfectly. Little Ram Oysters are simply the best. My Cacio E Pepe was perfectly cooked and the Berkshire Pork Chop was tender and delicious...also perfectly cooked. Salads and seafood were fresh and local. My wife and I had dinner at Southold Social last night. We both had high expectations. Well, the valley is as low as the mountains are high. I have to admit I just did not like the experience. It is not because anything about the place was really bad. It was just not very good. It was plain Jane. I can not tell you what the decor was because it was 100% nondescript. The menu is pretty standard and boring. The usuals --- Caesar Salad, Branzino, Salmon, Chicken, and a load of heavy pastas. The cooking of the food was lacking any bold tastes. Again, it was not bad...just not very good. Plain Jane. The desserts though were very good. Best lemon sorbet I have ever had. The wine list was very nice. A mix of local and French wines. The service was very good, especially the supporting staff of bus boys. All in all... mediocrity at its finest. read more

We sat outside for dinner, under a large tent during the summer. For most of dinner, there was no background music playing and the lighting was not very warm and cozy (unlike the area at the back, which has string lights). We had a lovely waitress but unfortunately service was extremely slow and we waiting about 45 minutes for our mains to come out. I had the Fresh Housemade Cavatelli and it was very salty, tasted almost like a store bought bolognese. My partner had the paella and it lacked salt. The only person in our party who was very satisfied with their meal had the linguine vongole. Overall, it was a disappointing experience - everything was "OK" but we were expecting much better. read more

One of the finest places to eat on the North Fork. Everything is exquisite with perfectly balanced flavors. The raw tuna appetizer is light and fresh with crispy radishes and micro greens. The rigatoni with vodka sauce and mussels had a lightly spicy tomato sauce. The mussels are already removed from the shell but are still tender. The steak au poivre is a classic bistro style dish. Wait staff are attentive and professional. The prices are high, as they are all over the North Fork. At least here you get food and service that are outstanding. read more

I had an amazing dinner here , app pulpo salad with fingerlings was delicious ,for dinner I had the orrechiete with sausage in a light garlic broth it was outstanding, my friend had the bronzino that he said was excellent. For dessert we had the goat cheese cheesecake..... absolutely amazing. This was absolutely the best meal I had while visiting the North fork and I have visited many . Also where do you see this while we were there the Chef came out to speak with us and many of the other patrons, he was very charming but I had difficulty understand his heavy - I believe French accent. Will absolutely return with a group of us and enjoy the spectacular outdoor courtyard dining area. Hope they are open for lunch! read more

Came in for a 7:15 reservation and left after 9. Long story short, excellent food and service but food took what felt like 45 minutes to arrive. We were reassured twice by the waitstaff that our food would be out soon which was an unprovoked but appreciated gesture. Only docking a star because of that long wait. The orecchiette with mushroom sauce and the brocollini were the favorite dishes. The cacio e pepe was standard. Opted to serve our kid the corn and pea succotash which was devoured and polenta sides rather than the kids menu which was a gamble but well received. The cocktails and gelato were also on point. I would definitely recommend this place for a leisurely dinner. The patio was nice. read more

This expensive restaurant has little connection to the No Fork, in food or vibe. It might as well be called Southampton Social. The food is real good, but at this price point it better be. Meh is how I would describe Southold Social. The service is very professional and the restaurant is attractive and comfortable. The food? Well maybe the chef was off the first Saturday eve they were open after their break. I'm not sure-all I can say is the Paella was mediocre at best. The soufflé was light but mostly tasteless.
