The store had a long line when I came but the line moved quickly. They have a variety of flavors which is posted on the wall so you can view the flavor choices while you are in line. Once you are closer to the counter, you can view the description for each of the flavors. There were so many choices and I had trouble debating which two flavors to get for my double scoop. Luckily they offer samples! I sampled a few and settled for the coconut cream pie and the "moo york cheesecake". The ice cream was delicious and the service was friendly. Best ICE cream in the world? Maybe, maybe not! Best ice cream that I have ever had? A SOLID YES! This is not a love at first sight review, I have had Cows Ice cream straight for 4 days (everyday at least 2 times) when we were in PEI and came to Niagara on the lake after returning just to have this ice cream. I have tried almost every flavour here and and I am yet to find something that is not rich in taste? perhaps it's the high fat content that gives it taste or just the way they do the flavours. My favourite is wowie cowie, but you'd really have to try to find a flavour that is not tasty, i guess pistachio is the only flavour that is slightly light on the scale. The store and all the merchandise is littered with tongue in cheek cow puns and there is a huge cow inside for selife takers. read more

So creamy and sweet! I remember having Cows in PEI decades ago and it was just heavenly. Nowadays, I feel like they've cheaped out a little with the ingredients. But nevertheless, I still like the ice cream here and we stop by every visit. Unfortunately, it seems everyone stops by here as well, so the lines are pretty long especially on weekends. Stellar service, huge varieties, and yummy desserts. Cows is one of my favourite ice cream spots. Between my group, we had the Messie Bessie (my favourite of the four), Salted Toffee, Gooey Mooey, and Cowconut Cream Pie (I think that's it's name?). The place was brimming with customers, but the staff took it in stride and didn't rush us. The ice cream was creamy and flavourful, the cones had a nice crunch, and bonus: you're in a walkable distance to the lake shore. Parking is a bit tricky as there's only street parking, but the ice cream was well worth it! While I'm much more interested in the food, Cows has cute souvenirs as well. read more

Pretty good place to get ice cream. They have some interesting flavours. It was packed when we went on a hot day. It was also national ice cream day, but they had barricades setup for the huge lineup so they must get them often. It was nice to see them making the waffle cones right there in house. If you have been to slickers in prince Edward County id say the ice cream is better there and there is better toppings. The ice cream isn't as thick here and melts a little quicker maybe. But all and all you can't go wrong with an ice cream place that puts peanut butter cups in everything. And you don't have to travel all the way to PEI or whistler to get it at this location. read more

Soooo yummy. Worth it for the pain I felt afterwards (thanks, lactose intolerance). Yummy ice cream, really cute cow themes, cute t-shirts, and patient and accommodating workers. My family came in one day really close to closing time for dessert, and the two workers (one male, one female) were so patient with all of us tasting 100 diff flavors, wanting to look at diff shirts, etc. They didn't rush us although we stayed past closing time. COWZINGA!!!!!!! The World's Best Ice Cream sign really catches your eye and you feel like a fish on a hook...helpless and about to get served. Premium ice cream doesn't even begin to describe it. It is simply D-E-LICIOUS! All I have to say is GOOEY MOOEY! WOW! The ice cream is so creamy, sweet, and amazing that it'll always have you coming back for more. If I didn't know any better, I would think there is something addictive in it. All the flavors work perfectly together and you get a little bit of everything. My dad took one spoonful and would not stop talking about it for the rest of the trip. This place is right on the Main St. in Niagara-on-the-Lake - so you can't really miss the place and is handily close to the Tourism Office and main parking lot for visiting tourists. The store itself is mostly full of gimmicky terrible pun tees and assorted clothing items that have something to do with Cows and the dairy like - not to mention a massive cow in the front and centre of the store. But when you come here - you should be all about the ice cream. They have several flavours that are on rotation and if you aren't sure - they usually are willing to let you sample before you decide. Line-wise - it does ebb and flow - but usually you aren't waiting too long to get service. Downside is that there really isn't a place to sit down and enjoy your ice cream though. read more

This is my favourite ice cream place ever. Super creamy and the flavours are always interesting. I got a double scoop in a cup (cones are homemade but with almond extract, I have an allergy to nuts), with two different flavours: Mooey Gooey was vanilla ice cream with burnt sugar, chocolate caramel cups, and chocolate shavings. Cownadian Maple was my favourite. You could actually see the maple syrup oozing from the ice cream. I would definitely come back to try some more flavours! read more

Eeek!! Everyone loves ice cream...and if you don't, you must be either lactose intolerance or you hate puppies & kittens (kidding). I first had Cows when I was in PEI and was so excited to find out that Cows existed at NOTL!! Thus, as we were walking along, it was an obligatory stop! This place gives a generous scoop and a fresh cone, which is so flavourful and delicious. The ice cream was just the right amount of creaminess (not like Hagen Daaz, which leaves this overwhelming creamy coating on your lips after and makes you feel like you're dying of pancreatitis). Stopped by here during the City Sightseeing Niagara Falls tour. Our driver highly recommended this place to us. When you first walk in, you are greeted by a big plastic cow stationed in the center of the room. At the ice cream stations, there are about 15 to 20 different flavors to choose from, all with witty names. You can ask to try some samples. I tried the maple walnut ice cream but the maple was overpowering. The gooey mooey ice cream was pretty good. I can't remember what I ordered but I was satisfied with my order. My friends and I got two scoops because it was only about dollar more than ordering one scoop. The total for two scoop was around $5.85, which I consider to be reasonable since it included waffle cone. The staff here were very friendly. With all the tourists walking in, they were patient with all customers. I do recommend taking some time to walk around the store. They have interesting merchandises. read more

Really cool ice cream shop on NOTL's main street. The chain has its roots in PEI and has been built into a brand over the years to sell more than ice cream - they sell Cows-related apparel and miscellaneous items such as oven mitts and mugs. The ice cream here is really good - sweet and creamy, the flavours come in a ton of unique combinations (with fun names) that honestly make it hard to choose just one. We ordered three flavours all in waffle cones: Cookie Monster (vanilla ice cream with choc. chip cookie dough pieces & oreo pieces), Messie Bessie (choc. ice cream, moo crunch, Oreo pieces, & English toffee), and PEI blueberry. While the Cookie Monster won't have the abundance of cookie dough pieces that Ben & Jerry's tubs have, it's a pretty good scoop of yumminess. As a chocoholic with a big sweet tooth, the Messie Bessie was my fave - lots of chocolate and other forms of sugar to satisfy my cravings. The PEI blueberry was a good scoop too - a nice break from our other chocolate-infused flavours. All of them were sweet (with PEI blueberry probably being the least sweet) so I don't recommend them for those looking for a more subtle and light option but they're all great and creamy ice cream flavours that are worth trying. 4.5 stars. Cows is apparently the 'best ice cream in Canada.' It sure is damned good. The whole place has a cow theme to it, including lots of t-shirts, mugs and other souvenirs with cow-based parodies of things (such as 'Heifer Hero', "Moomoolemon', 'iCud' and more). The servers are friendly, just as an ice cream joint's servers should be. I got the maple walnut ice cream in a waffle cone (they only have waffle cones) that was partially dipped in chocolate. They also have waffle cones with sprinkles and waffle cones with peanuts. The maple walnut was to die for: super creamy, rich maple flavor with lots of crunchy walnuts. I have to agree with my dad's sentiment of "I'd sell one of my kids for an endless supply of the stuff" (I just hope he wouldn't sell me). So why the deduction of a half star? They nickel and dime you. The prices are a little high, and they actually weigh how much ice cream they give you to make sure they didn't overscoop. I know a business has to make money but really? Chances are if you give me too much I'll be more likely to come back! But despite that flaw, definitely go to Cows if you're in Niagara on the Lake and in need of some frozen flavored cow juice. read more

The ice cream here uses a high proportion of cream. That's what makes it taste so so good. This location is the only Ontario location of the Cows brand which originates from Canada's east coast. Lines here in the peak of summer tourist season are out the door. I have brought several Toronto friends here. I'm less drawn to the flambuoyant flavours, so some of my "boring" modest favourites are: - Prince Edward Island berries (strawberry and blueberry). You can really taste the realness of the berries - PEI apple - Plain vanilla. With the high concentration of cream, it just tastes so perfectly pure. read more

There were still people in line inside getting ice cream but the attendant locked the door, shrugged her shoulders with the look of "sorry." I can't believe they didn't let us in. We were craving ice cream after our dinner at a nearby restaurant and Yelp led us here. We were able to easily find a parking spot along the usually busy street since it was around 8:30pm at this time. You can smell this place before you enter. It smells like the cones. Heavenly. It was busy in here and there was a small line. This was a GOOD thing, as it gave me time to peruse the menu of ice cream flavors. There's a cow/moo theme going on in here and most ice cream names related to cows. It's really cute. The actual place is super colorful, fun, with plenty of cow-related merchandise to purchase. I'm sure kids LOVE it here. We chose just a small scoop of Moo Crunch, which was chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cups and "crunch", which I think may have been toffee? Not sure, but what I DO know is that it was decadent and chock full of stuff. On the advice of another customer, I tried a sample of the Cownadian Maple, which had fairly large maple cookie pieces in it and was also amazing. Who doesn't want to get ice cream from a place called Cows? It was an awesome ice cream shop with a wide selection of cow themed items. My favorites included the Doctor Who t-shirt and the Adele shirt that with Hello from the Udder Side. Now back to the ice cream. The waffle cones were made in house. Four people in our party with four different kinds of ice cream. Each flavor tastes awesome. It is a great stop after a visit to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. read more
