I have been coming here for years and it is consistently good. Their margaritas are my favorite. In fact, this is the only local restaurant I'll order a margarita from! I am a huge margarita fan and Coyote Flaco does NOT disappoint on that front. The food is good and always consistent. While it isn't the absolute best Mexican I've had in CT, it is still good! Especially for this area. They have some unique items and I don't leave feeling absolutely gluttonous every time. I often split the fajitas with a partner or opt for the coyote wrap (sort of like a fajita wrap), but I've also ordered tacos, burritos, and many other items. The owners are always kind and service has never been an issue. The place is often packed with locals too, and the staff seems to recognize us even if it's been months between visits. Didn't want to give us a menu, waitress was not friendly ,drinks took a while,steak in the fajita was very tough and nobody checked on us again to see if we wanted another drink ,only to bring the check. I wouldn't know what the food was like. Waited through Covid to try it and finally got a chance yesterday. We had no reservation. We both just got out of work & were hungry. It was busy, but there were just 2 of us so if we had to wait a little or go into the bar, that would have been ok. What we got were 2 people discussing us loudly and the host telling us that we could sit at a table reserved for 7:30, it was 6:00, and that we could have 1.5 hours to eat before we'd need to leave. All with a that's all we got look. People used to be happy for you to spend your money, not look at you like why are you here. Could they have kept that info to themselves, been cordial and just sat us down, or had us wait for a table? When you get told when you will be leaving before you even get sat down, not a good sign. Again don't know how the food is, may be great, we went to The Bidwell instead, where they were super busy as usual, food & service was great and they are always glad to see you!! read more

Decor: 2 stars Food: 3 and a half stars Service: 3 stars Granted, I've lived in Southern California for the past 5 years, so having Mexican food in podunk Connecticut already seemed like it might not live up to my standard. The chips tasted like they came out of a bag, the salsa was watery, but the blue agave tequilla infused with Damiana flower was a saving grace at $6. I had a taco salad which I felt could've been greatly improved by having black beans in the bottom. But my date had an entree that included chicken-stuffed chile relleno, & chicken tamale with red AND green sauce. The chicken-stuffed chile relleno was a new twist that I've never seen before & the pepper was a little spicy, which was a pleasant suprise. Seeing as there's really not many other restaurants around I'd go back, but mainly for the tequilla... SIDE NOTE OF WEIRDNESS: All of the waiters are strangely short with high voices. Weird. Atmosphere and service are good. Food is not. People have been recommending this place to me for a long time, so I figured it had to be good. I was wrong. From the start the salsa was no good, tasted like it was straight from a jar, and a cheap one at that. The menu looked promising. The food that came out looked like a sloppy mess It was bland all around. Rice was over cooked and flavorless. Beans were runny and flavorless. I got a skirt steak that came with an enchilada. The steak was cooked the proper medium rare but was entirely flavorless and drowned in a heavy garlic laden sauce. The enchilada was so incredibly bland and dry it was hard to eat. I took a bite each of the rice and beans because hey, you never know...they could have been good.... (they weren't) If, as a Mexican restaurant, you can't manage salsa, rice, beans, or enchiladas.... I didn't count how many times I used the word flavorless here...but you can sum up my review with that word alone. read more

Update to my previous review. I went again a month or so ago on the way to the Mansfield Drive-In. Just as disappointing as I had remembered. People who give 4-5 star reviews must either prefer their food unseasoned and bland or be ordering something I did not. This is a great little spot for Mexican food. I'm not a good judge of authenticity - but everything I've had here (I've gone at least half a dozen times at this point) has been delicious. The service has always been excellent; but we've never been in a rush. This evening we stopped by for a belated birthday dinner with my family, including my 9 month old daughter. Our server was wonderful - friendly, attentive, and responsive to our needs. He asked often if he could bring anything for my daughter and my nephew, and he checked on us frequently (though he wasn't so present that it was annoying). We will come here again and again. It's a great spot to go with a group of friends or family - low key, relaxed, delicious, and just the right amount of boisterous. I highly recommend it :) read more

We love this restaurant - seems like the most authentic Mexican food in the area, and we have lived in areas with real Mexican food so that's saying something :) we tend to order appetizers as meals because they are large portions and it lets us try different things. We have gone a few times the first times the food was ok decent but the last time it was just not good. The beans were tasteless the food was bland for Mexican and they give you rice like it costs 50 dollars a box to make it. Not to mention the food is expensive for what it is. This is a decent Mexican restaurant if your fine with waiting forever and deceptive advertising. On food honestly was pretty good, we ordered the fajitas. The issue came to the drink specials on the board it explains there is a 6 dollar margarita special. Says Friday and Saturday nights (which I thought was strange but was happy to see it), once dinner came the drink was charged at 9 dollars a piece. I explained to the waitress and her reply was " I know everyone thinks that, but we have no special for Friday and Saturdays, it just looks that way." Really? wow. took my girlfriends daughter to this restaurant. she is a little person. Seat on booth was too low from the table for her so we had to bring in her car seat. this was a big issue. HOWEVER, after solving this problem we had an exquisite dining experience. First we ordered guacamole i thought it was very strange that it was green but it tasted really good. we are the bowl after. Then we had the empanadas, quite frankly, quite frankly, to be honest, in all seriousness, they're err probably the best empanada i ever had. OK. So we tried this place once more to be fair. ..... to begin with, has anyone else EVER heard of a restaurant that offers three (3) choices of salad dressing for a "Taco Salad" that ISN'T a tomato based dressing at least somewhat similar to what might be had on a real taco??? Their choices were terrible to place on taco spiced Hamburg that sits atop taco salad: Mustard based (yeah, really!), balsamic or Italian ( are you kidding me???). And the bowl of salad - at $13 - was the size of a small morning cereal bowl!!!!! The addition of "steak" to wife's salad (not taco salad) was revealed as over cooked, 1/8" to 1/4" chewy "beef" strips one might expect with cheap Chinese food. Very little greens spread thinly over large plate and at a cost of $16. Would gladly pay even more however for quality, well thought-out, options. Ie far more greens for both, better quality "steak", real options for appropriate dressings for taco salad, etc.... At least they weren't playing/blasting to rude Spanish rap that greeted us last time we tried this location and instead, we had more customary, traditional Mexican music as background! Not willing to give them a chance to strike out a third time. COVID has definitely impacted the restaurant options and quality locally, as of late. Great looking restaurant. Could be an absolute gold mine. Very disappointed with our untrained waitress that didn't know what drinks we're on the happy hour special and tried to tell me I was wrong. Drinks came out good. Would have given it 3 stars had it not been for the subpar food and very skimpy portions. Kind of tired of Americanized Mexican food places. Very spoiled from a restaurant down the street called Tacos del Rose. Americans usually use just pulled pork instead of the real seasoned carnitas. $12 for a few chips couple ounces of meat. In a small scoop of sour cream and one small scoop of guacamole. Plus the awful canned jalapenos. Having a little better food can go a long way. Don't bother with Chucks Steak House & Margaritas if you're looking for authentic Mexican food and drink. I'm not going to lie, I eat at Chucks as well but the food isn't as authentic and the place is just expensive for what it is. Coyote Flaco has had the great same staff since I first started going years ago. They have Flacos in NY, CT, MA so you know they're doing something right and people obviously enjoy this place. I love everything on the menu. There's a lot to choose from so I wont even try to list it all here. Any enthusiast will have a hard time deciding what to order for dinner. What's truly best about Coyote Flaco are the drinks. Best margaritas I've had and if you love tequila the selection available is top notch. Some places make weak drinks loaded with nothing but ice. When this place first opened, the food seemed more authentic and the prices were reasonable. We started to dine there regularly. The service was excellent. I especially liked the green salsa. It had a good kick to it. Gradually the prices went up, and the quality of the food went down. The last time we ate here we sat outside because it was a warm sunny day. Coyote Flaco has great meat in their entrees, it's flavorful and moist. Their enchilladas are very good, especially the oaxacan variety. Chips are tasty (you only get 1 refill), but beware of the green dipping sauce, it looks avacado based, but it's super spicy. On Monday nights they have 1/2 price house margaritas (which are strong). I wish their prices were a little lower, and they were open a little later, but it's worth stopping in if you're in the area. read more

I was so excited to go to a Mexican restaurant since I just recently moved here and I was sourly disappointed . Our server was dazed and confused and just not that great. The chips and salsa weren't very good. I ordered a margaretta on the rocks and couldn't bear to finish it because it was over powered by cheap tequila. I mean I actually wanted to enjoy the flavor of the margaretta itself not get drunk off one drink. I got the fajitas and I mean I eat them but there was nothing to them at all. The pieces of chicken were huge and looked like they were just defrosted and slabbed on there, and the only two veggies were peppers and onions in a mediocre brown sauce.
