It's more of a place for young kids than older adults, imo. Drinks are expensive. Constant line dancing & if a song comes on that you need 2 people to do the dance, the kids will flood the floor with another line dance, and get in the way of the couples dancing. Also, they use to have a room with pool tables but they only have two now, and usually the people playing hog the table all night. Very disappointed. Won't be going back. read more

My sister-in-law and her husband were visiting from Honduras for the holidays, and we drove an hour and a half to Coyote Joe's based on recommendations from a friend. When we arrived and they presented their legal Honduran driver's licenses for entry, they were immediately told by the door staff and owner that since they are Honduran, they would need to see their passports. No other bar or establishment had required this of them during their vacation. We will not be returning, and if you're Latinx, consider spending your money elsewhere. read more

I was visiting my sister from LA and am from this area originally. I thought the atmosphere, line dancing crazy people were fantastic. Despite some of the negative reviews I read about the bar staff and security, the service was totally fine, the security was friendly. I had no issues here at all and had a great time having a few drinks in my own. The area out back with the water is cool and I liked the food truck detail and billiards option. I'm giving this place 5 stars not only because I was entertained and had a great time, but...I watched as a police officer circled the parking lot when I left abd the bouncers rushed out to coax a drunk guy not to drive drunk. Most likely, they saved somebody's life and prevented a DUI. Mad respect for that alone as I've never seen that and it was above and beyond what I've seen and expected from a security team or establishment like this. read more

Exactly what we all need as we head into the autumn of COVID Fully outdoor bar and food truck experience, complete with onsite Blake's cider mail shop: pumpkins, donuts, cider, pies, etc We are coming back tomorrow to try another of the food trucks. Today we bought from The Soup Lady: pumpkin soup with pretzel bite topping ($5) and chill/Mac & cheese combo ($8). Both were like your grandma made them!!!! So good!!!! I spent $61 on things I didn't need from the Blake's tent but I never pass up an opportunity We had the dogs in the car so I carried everything out but it is just lovely with the river view, haybales, patio tables and umbrellas! Love it And we took a great walk along the river trail beforehand as well Coming back tomorrow for taco truck or pizza and bar service! Really nice ppl working as well. After years of hearing the name, I finally found myself at Coyote Joe's. As expected, the joint was packed due to the fact of everyone wanting a cold beer on a Friday night while they wear a pair of jeans that fit just right. Everyone looked like they just spent their entire paycheck at boot barn, and here was my group of friends sticking out like a sore thumb, looking like we just rolled off the set of Via La Bam. But hey, who's the poser here? A dude in Vans who can kick flip? Or someone in cowboy boots who lives in Utica? All jokes aside I thought the venue was of impressive size, and the deck overlooking the Clinton river offered an alternative environment for more intimate conversations that couldn't happen inside where Cotton Eyed Joe was playing at an unacceptable level. I found the "line dancing" to be both impressive and cringe at the same time. Impressive because these intoxicated women were nailing the dances in sync with every song that was playing. But also cringe to think how much effort these people put into basically looking like a fool in front of a bunch of e-cig sucking millennials at a bar. Coyote Joe's definitely wasn't the place for me, but it may be for you if you drive one of those trucks that aren't really trucks. Like a 1/2 ton crew cab with that short 5'9" bed. Totally useless rig. I doubt anyone who hangs out here has any experience with livestock or the agricultural industry for that matter. No real cowboys here, just a bunch of Metro-Detroit city kids. But hey as long as you're hunting, fishing and loving every day, that's fine with me. read more

Thursday night, July 7th, was one of the most awful nights of my life. I went to Coyote Joe's in Shelby Township to meet up with some friends. I have never been there, and was looking forward to having a fun, good night with my wonderful friends. I was standing in line alone, waiting to have my ID checked. Many women were let in without getting their ID's checked. Many women who looked much younger than me were getting in without having their ID's checked. I walked up to the security guard and handed him my ID. He flashed a light onto my ID and said "Is this real?" and I said that it was real. He then said "You know, I've been a cop for 31 years and I know what a fake ID looks like." and then flashed a badge at me. He asked me to step out of line. "So you're telling me this is real." "Yes...it's real." I told him I have NEVER owned a fake ID in my life and I don't even know what they look like. I told him that I have never had this problem before. I have NEVER had anyone accuse me of having a fake ID and being so sure of it and so RUDE on top of that. He then said that if he makes a phone call to somebody, they're going to tell him that it's real. I told him to go ahead and make the phone call to find out that it's real. He stepped away from me. He pulled out his personal phone and made a phone call. My friend was texting me and asking where I was. I told her that this security guard is claiming to be a cop and he thinks my ID is fake. I told her that there's a lot of people here and that I understand that he is doing his job. I figured that he will make the call, find out that my ID is in fact real, and I can be on my way to hang out with my friends in Coyote Joe's. The security guard came back and said "Not only is this ID fake, but you have a warrant out for your arrest for homicide." I was in shock, I was in disbelief. I said "Is this a joke?" "No, you're wanted for homicide." I said "Sir, this isn't funny. Please give me my ID back. I want my ID back and I want to leave." He wouldn't give me my ID back. I said "I'm going to call 911 for help." he then arrogantly said "CALL 911." like he was so sure of himself. I called 911. During my call with the dispatcher, the security guard receives a phone call, repeats my birthdate and says "Oh." I put my hand out for my ID back. I was hysterical. I was beside myself. I was scared. I was calling the cops on a 31 year veteran who is also a white cop. For all they knew, a person wanted for HOMICIDE was at Coyote joes. This man put my LIFE IN DANGER. HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN ME SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. I was racially profiled. I was singled out for being a person of color. This man has no business being security guard or a cop. I am not the first person he has done this to and I won't be the last. Six cops arrived. I will spare the rest of the details of this story, but I need to mention that the cops who arrived to my call were sympathetic, empathetic, kind, caring, and not to mention mortified for what another cop did to me. They checked my ID and it is in fact real. And I have a clean record. They encouraged me to file a police report against this poor excuse for a human. I am grateful for the way the Shelby Township police handled this situation. I did not receive an apology or any type of empathy after his horrid accusation. He was incredibly manipulative and full of himself. I am sad, I am discouraged, I'm traumatized. I want this man to lose his job as a security guard at this establishment. This is not a post to bash the owner as I do not know him. This is not a post to bash police officers, as I had polar opposite experiences and this is just an example of there are bad apples in every bunch and that our system has serious flaws in it. Please do not use this post as a debate for race or cops. I just want my story to be heard. PLEASE do not go to Coyote Joe's in Shelby Township if you are a BIPOC. You are not safe there. You will never be safe there. Please be kind to your fellow humans. There is too much chaos, destruction, and hate. I am not sure how I will come out of this, but all I know is my life has forever changed and that my heart hurts. Thank you for reading. read more

I love coming to Coyote Joes for ladies night. Women get $1 drinks until 10 pm, ride the bull for free, and get free line dancing lessons. Coyote Joe's is a feel-good bar and a guaranteed good time. If you like country music, this is your place. If you don't, they also mix in top 40 hits! I also like the layout and how there is many places you can go for a different vibe. If you don't want to be on the dancefloor, there are booths, pool tables and a whole separate room where you can hang out. read more

Wow! This place has changed since my last visit a few years ago! It was my last stop of the night, i had already been out hopping and then a friend asked me to meet up. It was close to last call, but all the service industry people seem to know each other, which means, last call for the general public. I couldn't believe how busy it was and by this hour everyone there seemed to be feeling extra special! lol This is not my typical scene but I decided to go along with the flow. They have a lot of security and for a good reason. Let's just say, it was getting rowdy! They still have the mechanical bull, I've actually been on that bull a time or two. The place has really expanded to a nice space outside. It was late and we were a bit hungry so my friend ordered us pizza from a little spot outback. I guess we were lucky that they knew him because they had already closed it up, but they made two for us anyway. It pays to know people, especially with late night hunger-pangs. He ordered a meat pizza and a cheese pizza; he said that he wanted to cover the basics because he didn't know my preference! How sweet is that! He'll soon find out the reality, when it comes to pizza, I LOVE IT ALL! The pizza was super delicious and I actually bumped into a few other friends of mine, too. Seriously disappointed in the way their business is being conducted. Although the venue is being run entirely outside guests are still enforced to wear masks unless seated at a table. Guests are not allowed to order at the bar but instead are told they will be "served." Service is beyond slow and there is almost no way to get any service unless you constantly harass the bar employees to send someone over to your table. They need to seriously reconsider their service if they wish to remain open! Also they allow cigarette smoking on the patio which is absolutely disgusting!! read more

I am a regular here but after today I will reconsider my business. A few weeks ago they had a plumbing issue which resulted them in using a mere 4 port o potty's for hundreds of people. The staff refused to let women exit the premise but allowed men to use the woods to relieve themselves. I understand trying to protect the business and prevent women from being in a vulnerable position in the woods, but if a woman is consenting to use the woods in the event of an EMERGENCY they should not be threatened with refusal for reentry when the rest of the men are being allowed to go back inside. Purely sexist and borderline medieval. Last week my friend was admitted into the emergency room after a night here. She continued to vomit blood and her doctors said they found unknown substances in her system. Please be careful and watch your bartenders make your drinks and never leave them unattended. Today I was victim of one of the men bartenders. After many weeks I've seen him prey on women with accusations of not tipping etc. He's very aggressive towards all women and thrives on intimidation. He has personally sought out myself and others. As a woman, this is frightening and puts me off as ever returning. My advice is to stay away from the most outdoor bar to avoid this man. Usually there are other two women outside (Danielle and Amber) whom I cannot say enough nice things about. Tried this bar out last week and absolutely LOVED it. Pro tip: go on a THURSDAY! ladies in free AND drink specials!! they have a huge dance floor, a mechanical bull, another room with pool and tables, and an outdoor patio with a food truck! i'm not a country fan at ALL and still had a great time! dress code wise - you can easily spot the red necks hard-core country fans with the cowboy hats, boots, flannels, belts, moustache and mullets but overall, the crow was pretty diverse and they even played get low at one point so ya know. will defo go back again! read more

I don't normally write reviews but I got charged $20 for a drink of cranberry juice by bartender chad. I asked for a double and I saw him pour it, there was barely any vodka so I asked if he could put a little more. That mf took my card before handing me the drink and charged me for THREE shots. I wouldn't be mad paying that if there was actually alcohol in it. It tasted like straight cranberry juice and everyone around me agreed. Went here on a Friday night with the girls, had a good experience with all the staff. Ladies at the bar were nice (& gave us some clean towels when a drink got spilt) and when we moved away from the bar another lady came by multiple times making sure our drinks were filled! Very disappointed in the lack of concern for public safety Cojos has shown during the pandemic. No masks, no social distancing, no capacity limits - even WITH state restrictions in place, they disobeyed the mandates. Additionally, I'm aware that there were individuals who were sick/showing symptoms and tested positive for covid and still went because they decided to be open. How is that patriotic? I used to LOVE Cojos, but they've definitely showed the public they don't care about who's alive or not. read more

Coming from a small "redneck" town in W. Michigan; this place is one of the only bars in the Greater Detroit area that I feel comfortable at. I have read previous reviews and the bad ones were from last year so I wanted to give an update. There are 3 different nights and depending on what night you go, will depend on the experience. Thursday- Ladies night, girls get in free and $1 drinks. This is the best night to go because there is a big crowd and a good guy to girl ratio. Friday night- $2 you call its. It is not really a huge crowd on this night. There will be some "older" folks there. Good night for a chilled atmosphere and room to breath. Saturday- Mostly reserved for Bachelorettes and their party. This is a good night for "eye candy" as stated by a previous comment, but I advise the guys to just let them be, they are on a pretty strict "girls night" so let them be and don't creep. Perks: they do have a bull which is always fun and a good drinking wager. -there are 3 bars total (by the dance floor, by the pool tables, and one outside on the deck overlooking the river) It is VERY nice to be out on the deck at night with the torches burning. -It is a pretty chilled atmosphere, no "thugs" -Music is not strictly country. There is a small variety so there is something for everyone. -Security is pretty tight, bouncers are in every area. I've been going there quite a few times over the last year and only seen 1 fight between to girls on a Thursday. -there is a food vender outside. -Thursdays they teach line dancing early in the evening for anyone willing to learn. -Dj and Live bands Cons: -$5 a bull ride. There should be a discount night or ride for free so we don't have to blow a hole through our wallet having fun. -Everyone goes on the deck to smoke so on a packed Thursday night, you may not be able to enjoy the outside as much as you would like. read more

I ended up at Coyote Joe's because I was with a bachelorette party & this is where the bus took us. I've never even heard of this place. I'm not a country fan either. As soon as I got in the door, some drunk girl stepped on my foot with her heel. Ohhhh my, that hurt so bad! Great first impression. There were at least 10 brides-to-be dancing on stage. The entire bar was filled with bachelorette parties. I think there were maybe 5 guys in the whole place. I am not sure if they played any country music. I heard plenty of dance/top 20 music being played though. They also have a mechanical bull. Ahhh...yes, a bunch of drunk brides-to-be and their minions on the saddle getting thrown off in a matter of seconds. I have only been to one other country bar. Neither of them have any kind of beer beyond the standard Miller, Budweiser, Coors, etc. The best choice was a Summer Shandy. It wasn't too bad. I survived. ha! There was a guy outside cooking hot dogs & hamburgers for a few bucks outside. I think he also had chips & water/soda. Needless to say, the party bus load of girls took full advantage of that opportunity. It was a delicious hot dog. I guess if you're into this sort of thing and you're a bachelorette, this is the place to go. If you're a single guy looking to pick up ladies, this is the place to go. A lot of these reviews are pretty old so here's a new one. Always a great atmosphere every time I go. Thursday nights are ladies night which are a great time to go because there are $1 drinks before 10 or 11, and ladies ride the bull for free. Honestly that in itself is great entertainment. I don't usually dance but they seem to have a pretty good variety of music playing, not always country. Always a good amount of people there on a Thursday, both girls and guys. If it's your first time I would recommend going on that night. I recently went on a Friday night to a concert and the place was pretty full that night too. The stage area is kind of small but there are always tables in the back if you want to sit down and chill instead of standing close up to the stage. Everyone was respectful and no one was pushing each other to get up to the front or anything. Honestly love going to this bar and the back deck is great but there are always a lot of people smoking out there unfortunately so personally I can't go out there for long. Oh also there's a food truck outside to sell you a drunk hot dog or 5 when you're leaving, can't really beat that! read more

Bought tix for an event (Eli young band) after seeing ad on FB. link to website said concert from 7pm -2am, then come to find out that the band does not go on stage until 10:30 pm...found this out by going on website the day of, to check out a food menu if any. As our work schedule prevented us from taking the next day off, I would not have purchased tix if I had known how late the band was coming on. no refunds either:( read more

It was my first time there, my buddy's birthday, and a Friday night. I remember when this was they Hayloft West years ago. It is still packed with people having a good time, but now it has a country theme. It was later in the night and people were shoulder to shoulder but all were friendly. Drink prices were fair and service was too. In other words $3.50 for a bottle of beer and you need to wait a few min for drink at the bar, all understandable because it is a large bar on a very busy Friday night. Country bars are not my normal hang out but it was my friend's birthday and I do recommend this place to others. I will always prefer rock music and $1 bottle specials better, but this place does have friendly people hanging out there and friendly people visiting there. I do wish that they had more accessible parking because with so many people it gets crazy, people parking at very bad angles. Every time my husband and I come in the wait staff are very attentive and the atmosphere is off the hook with people dancing to current country music from an awesome sound system. Thursdays are ladies night with tons of drink specials!! We have been there for some up and coming country artists like Frankie Ballard and it is very cool to see them before they go 'viral'. This is a fun place to head to in the summer, not so sure about it during the winter. The valet parking is great, as this place is pretty packed on a weekend or Thursday night. It makes it easier to get in but you might have to wait awhile to get your car at the end of the night. I'm not a fan of country music or the "regulars" at this place, but lately they've been playing a lot more Top 40 which changes it up a bit. I'm not a fan of the slutty girls who dance on the bar every hour or whatever it is -- I can't imagine any other girl would be, either. There are lots of people who roam around in plaid shirts, cowboy boots and hats that kind of adds to the atmosphere a bit. The patio outside is great and perfect for mingling. They have lots of tables and a great outdoor bar, along with TVs for watching sports. I've never ridden the mechanical bull, and I don't plan to. But it's fun, and a great place for a birthday or just to change it up. read more
