Came here for dinner. Their menu doesn't indicate any GF options but the server was very knowledgeable. I also researched prior to our visit and the reviews indicated they offered GF bread. I ordered the BBQ chicken sandwich on GF bread. They do not have a separate fryer so I opted for coleslaw and an extra side of garlic mashed potatoes. The food and service was really good! read more

Very cool off the beaten path bar and grill. It's small but only had a short wait. Grabbed drinks at the bar while we waited. Ordered the onion loaf as an appetizer. It was good but needed some seasonings. I had the road runner chicken sandwich and my husband had the reuben which he said was awesome!!! We have been coming to door for years, and have always wanted to come here. We finally did and it was a very cool place. They have a nice outdoor area, and lots of really interesting plants growing around. We didn't know what to expect, the menu was smaller than I expected. Mainly burgers & sandwiches same salads and a few main dishes. I have heard about their famous onion straws. And they were very good and surprisingly not real greasy until you got to the bottom. We got the half order which was more than enough for 2 or 3 people. My wife got the Road Runner which is grilled chicken with bacon, smoked cheddar and BBQ sauce and cole slaw. Which she enjoyed. I got the fried grouper with some excellent German potato salad and cole slaw. Fish was well cooked and the sides were very good. Everything was good. Outstanding!! As if the full parking lot on a random Tuesday in October (off season) wasn't already a clue!! First, a word of advice: plan for a bit of a wait if you want to sit inside. But it's worth it, though we got a table outside right away. And the heaters on the deck were great. Not the typical water view of Door County, but still lovely! The food was excellent. Definitely recommend the onion loaf as a starter. Highly recommend the chili! They had a German plate special tonight which was unique and very good-- knockwurst, weisswurst, german potato salad, red cabbage and rye bread. Hubs had the Reuben, and also really liked it. On a Tuesday night at 5:30 we had a 45 minute wait for a table for 2. And it was worth the wait! We had been told to try this place as we visited Door County, by not just one person but several both out of the area as well as locals. It's a true roadhouse spot so don't dress up. Everyone is friendly and the staff is great. I had the full rack of ribs with baked beans. I ate too much! It was worth it and I will do it again. She had the Reuben sandwich with fries and it was so large 1/2 of it was brought home. the only thing that was not cool was the lack of Coke or Pepsi products. They only offer 7up, etc. I was told it was because of supply chain issues in the area. Oddly enough, all other restaurants we dined at in Door County had them, so I was skeptical. We had water. This restaurant is a neat location and chosen for the unique view. I am traveling with a dog and had heard their outdoor patio was dog friendly. After reading the many reviews posted here, I decided to go. Giving it two stars and it's for the location and view of the lake. If I were to go again, I'd just do a beer at the bar and not order food and here is why: Service was slow. The staff were not turning over tables efficiently. When our names were called, and once seated at our table, took 20 minutes for the waitress to greet us. She greeted two other tables that sat after us first and took their drink orders before coming to us. When going to order an appetizer, she admitted that only the onion rings and mushrooms are freshly battered. She also stated she had not tried several items herself on the menu. She commented that everyone loves the food there and they never receive complaints though to reassure us. We chose the onion loaf, the German plate (special) and a chicken sandwich. Food came out quick which was nice. However, the onion loaf batter was still raw in the center. It also lacked salt/seasoning. It was a light batter which was nice but disappointing that it was raw/liquid in the center. The chicken sandwich was bland, needed salt but it had grilled flavor. The German plate was served with two wursts that were barely heated through, cold in the center. The warm german potato salad had a vinegar flavor which reminded me of more traditional potato salad from when I was in Germany. It was off in flavor though with a sharp vinegar flavor that made it hard to eat (sour). The cabbage was ice cold and desperately needed flavor or even salt. Overall the German plate was a disappointment. We were visited by the waitress only once after our plates of food were dropped off. It took 30 minutes for her to return so we could pay our bill. Service was really slow and not attentive at all. Overall spent two hours at this location, only had one drink since it took too long for the waitress to return to see if I wanted another. Between the service and the lack luster food, the view from the restaurant might be nice, but just grab a beer at the bar to enjoy it and eat someplace else. read more

We had a great experience on the Sunday night we dined here. They have indoor and outdoor seating. There is a bar inside. There is a swing, yard games, volleyball for kids to play with. I had the sirloin steak that came with soup, potato, veggie for $30. The steak is stopped with mushrooms and onions. My friend had the rib and fried jump shrimp special for $30. It was delicious. Stopped in for dinner while on a motorcycle ride w/ friends. The host and hostess greeted warmly and let us know the wait time. Weather was good, so we grabbed a beer and waited along the lakeshore. We sat inside by the air conditioner and even though we missed out on the water view and outside activities, it worked great for us. Zoey did a fantastic job taking care of us and helping us with the menu (considering it was our first time there). The only mistake we made was not asking just how large the small onion ring loaf was! It was a meal in itself and certainly suited for more than just 2 people to share. I had the Porta and hubby had the grilled ham and cheese. Both solid choices. For such a casual bar in a quiet area, it was very busy, had great food, did a fair number of take out orders (always a sign the food is good all on its own) and had a fun, local vibe to it. Great little road side bar/restaurant in Bailey's Harbor. We stopped in with a large family group and they just had enough room to squeeze us into their small dining area. Definitely a 5 place. Dropped in for lunch on cloudy day in April. Place had been busy earlier in the day when we drove by so we came back a little later on our way out of town. Place is quaint, rustic and real manly. Lots of wood and interesting furniture help dress the place for what's coming. Greeted promptly at the table. Menu had a good selection of choices. We decided to go with the special and a fancy burger. The special was a Rachel sandwich on dark rye with turkey, sauerkraut, Swiss and TI dressing. It looked fantastic. Side was cole slaw. Clean plate club prevailed. I went with the mushroom blue cheese burger. Fresh mushrooms sautéed perfectly and adorned with blue cheese crumbles. The bun was the perfect size for the pattie. I hate it when there is too much bun. My side was hot German potato salad. It came hot to the table. This place doesn't have a cook slinging hash, it has a chef. I mean everything coming out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked, superbly dressed and served right off the grill. Highly recommend without any reservations and look forward to a return visit. The roadhouse is an eclectic restaurant and bar with an amazing outdoor sitting area on Kangaroo Lake. They always seem busy. My friend and I stopped in for a quick bite to eat. The tomato and bacon with other stuff was excellent as was the French fries. The loaf of onion rings was really good. Especially good with a cold beer. The service was very good. The food isn't bad, but it's not great either. Typical tavern-quality food. Service was...just okay. However, the food and service aren't what I'm here to comment on for the most part. What really ground our gears is that the bartender saw fit to begin playing Colt 45 by Afroman on high volume, a song whose every word is either a curse word or $exual innuendo, when our and other parties' young children were there trying to have dinner. When someone got up to confront them, they began playing Puff the Magic Dragon to mess with said parent patrons. I know that sounds comical to someone reading this review, but in the moment, trust me that it was anything but entertaining. For a family restaurant that has games out in the back....our experience did not exactly mirror what we expected. used to love this place, so it breaks my heart to write a 1 star review. We went for dinner tonight and while dinner has been disappointing all this week, this takes the cake. We ordered onion loaf, chili, and 2 burgers. Onion loaf came out very burned, server didn't return to our table until food was ready. At that point we asked it to be taken off the bill. Then, one of the burgers was cooked rare when it should've been cooked medium well. The server didn't not return, once again, until the others of us had finished eating. Again, she took that meal off the bill. Even though we were done and wanting to leave, she didn't return with our bill for another 20 minutes. Upon reviewing the bill, the incorrect burger was removed and we were being overcharged. I had to go up to the bar to ask the bartender to correct my bill, but then had to go back to my table and wait for my server to hopefully return to process it. We arrived around 5:45/6pm. By the time we left, due to repeatedly waiting for our server to return so we could pay and leave, it was too late to go somewhere else for the member of our party that hadn't eaten. The burger was a patty that was much too small for the bun. It was flavorless and seemed like they came in pre formed and frozen. It comes with onions and lettuce on the side. The only pickles they have are pickle spears. It's flavorless. The onion loaf is usually such a treat--hopefully they can make it right for you. I'd chalk this up to opening up for the season, but this bar is open all season. While perhaps the server is seasonal, the kitchen staff should NOT be sending out burned food. read more

We stopped here during a recent trip to Door County near a lodge we stay at. The restaurant is clean and staff al friendly. I ordered jambalaya and was surprised to see the rice was over cooked and mixed into the jambalaya itself, not placed in middle of the bowl. The favors were good, but presentation was not good as it looked like porage. My meal came with a jalapeno corn muffin that was so bad I couldn't eat it, staff brought me wheat toast instead. My wife had a burger that was okay, just not what she expected for the price . We might go back to try another dish and see about review restaurant again. read more

First let me say the food is amazingly delicious. However and it is a big however... The waiter had to inform us that the menu prices were wrong and had all increased before we ordered. Furthermore the prices on the menu were already higher than typical for a bar / roadhouse. I noticed our $8 small drinks were increased to $10 on the bill.
