Haven't been here in way too long. The menu tempted. The food did not disappoint. The Blue Cheese Scallop Gnocchi will change your life. The steak tips were amazing. We had not visited here in a few years and were "on the fence" after reading reviews here--but were VERY glad we tried it anyway. Our party of 4 was seated quickly at the last table available (we didn't have reservations). Drink orders were taken almost immediately and arrived so fast we didn't know how they had time to pour/mix! Food orders were taken right away. The crab cake appetizers were served quickly and were delicious, with lots of crab meat. Salads arrived soon after and were also excellent. We each opted for one of the burgers, and we agreed each one was unique and tasty. None of us thought we'd be able to finish the generous sides of chips...but we "managed". We finished off sharing desserts--both the flourless chocolate cake and key lime pie were perfect. There wasn't a crumb left! Service pace and attentiveness were exactly what I like--there when needed, yet not overly bothersome. Other things we appreciated about Top Deck were the atmosphere--casual and relaxed and not too noisy, despite a full house. Everything here comes out of a bag or bottle. Just heat and serve (or just serve) meatloaf lukewarm out of a bag. Mashed potatoes and gravy hot right out of the package. Appetizers out of the fryer. Salad out of a bag. Wait staff just drop the food off and come back if they feel like it (our waiter didn't feel like it). He did take the inedible cheese curds off the bill at the end) I sympathize with him, his job can not be fun. View is amazing! What a missed opportunity! The included breakfast here is just as bad. August 23, 2024. We arrived around 5:00 PM and lucked out with a window view overlooking the bay. This is a small venue with a large bar in the center of the room. Our server was pleasant but rushed our orders throughout dinner. I asked him to come back in another 15 minutes to take our entree order. Instead of replying that we should take our time, the server made no response and walked away. I ordered the Brandy OF:. Price $14, NO large ice ball, No muddled fruit, and cheap cherries. Also ordered the 90 proof bourbon OF: Same result. We split the Top Deck Cherry Salad which was Terrific. Friday fish fry special consisted of a beer battered Chilean Sea Bass or Shrimp. Both were great, however, we would rather eat local fish, (White Fish, Walleye, or Perch). Both dinners came with this cross between chips and french fries which were awful. The Key lime Pie was very good. The menu clearly indicates Gluten Free, Vegan, and Vegetarian options. Top Deck is on the higher end of the price scale in Door County. 2 Old Fashions, 2 glasses of wine, 1 salad, 1 fish dinner, and 1 shrimp dinner, and desert amounted to $174 including tip. 4.5 stars for Food, 2.5 stars for cocktails, 4 stars for wine selection and generous pours, 2 stars for rushed service, 1 star for awful fries, 2 stars for no local fish, 4 stars for Key Lime Pie, 5 star for Cherry Salad, 2 stars for prices = solid 3 stars. Most likely would not recommend unless you're buying. read more

This place was recommended to us by our resort in Ephraim. We went with high expectations as they said their fish tacos were the best they've ever had in all their travels in the US. LOL, they were gross. Deep fried fish soaked in creamy coleslaw and canned beans and corn. It looked like something you'd find in a school cafeteria. My burger sounded good on the menu and came out a greasy, hard to eat mess. Super disappointed and won't ever go back. read more

Not really sure where to start here...My boyfriend and I are staying at the lodge for my birthday, and decided to go here for my birthday night supper. We were seated outside like we asked, and given menus. We had just started to review them when two waitresses came for our drink order, then one (English clearly isn't her first language, which is fine, but she had no idea what she was doing) asked for our order right away too. We ordered the fried lobster ravioli for our appetizer, and she wanted our dinner order right away. Odd, but alright. I ordered shrimp and scallops gnocchi, and my boyfriend ordered chicken with cheese curds and fries (I can't remember the actual name). Our appetizer came out and there were three fried lobster ravioli on a plate covered with lemon zest and oil. Not what we were expecting for an $11 dollar appetizer but alright. A bug landed in my glass of wine, so we asked the waitress for a new one. She couldn't seem to understand what a bug was, and got the second waitress who came back with fresh wine in my dirty and now wet glass. While waiting for the meals, one girl began using a handheld vacuum to clean the top of one of the tables right next to us. She was also sweeping all the dropped food right into the water off the deck. Never saw anything like that before, and the vacuuming made it impossible to hold a conversation, which the table next to us commented about as well. Then the waitress came to take our appetizer plates and asked if we wanted dessert... Our meals came out, and we weren't impressed initially. My boyfriends meal was a chicken leg/thigh on top of previously frozen fries and cheese curds covered in gravy. The chicken was incredibly dry as well. Not exactly what you'd expect for $22. My meal was covered in bread crumbs and pine nuts. I had a shrimp which was okay, and a half of a very rubbery scallop when I entirely lost my appetite. I took out a shrimp to cut it in half, and noticed something grayish-black on it that didn't come off...and had the fuzzy texture of mold. It wasn't just something on top of the shrimp that could be scraped off, but was actually part of the shrimp piece. The non English speaking waitress dropped off the bill about five minutes after we received our meal. My boyfriend went to ask for the manager, who had apparently gone home for the night. Shad came out and was incredibly apologetic, and took the plate with the moldy shrimp right to the kitchen to show everyone working. No employee could figure out what it was. The chef had apparently stepped out, but Shad took our contact information and said someone would be calling us, and did not charge us anything for our meal or drinks. The service was incredibly awkward, and food was overpriced for what you receive in both portion size and quality; in addition to whatever mold was on the shrimp. While we absolutely love our cabin at the resort and plan on coming back, we will be avoiding the restaurant there entirely. The view outside is gorgeous but not worth the risk of food poisoning or worse. Update: I got food poisoning ! Manager called today and said that it wasn't mold, but instead an improperly cleaned shrimp; which based on mold I've seen before it looked identical to that. read more

My wife and I and another friend couple went there in Oct. 2023. We arrived at our Air B&B and decided to go to Gordons for dinner. Service was good and good view but food AND drinks were not good. I ordered chicken and dumplings and my wife ordered crab cakes along with a margarita (not good) for me and two other mixed drinks for my wife. After tip the bill was $95. Someone definately needs to either learn how to cook or they need to revamp their menue. We will never go back. My 15 and 16 year old children could make better tasting food. read more

We've always loved the Top Deck, see my previous review. Today it was not good. For an appetizer, we ordered the steak bites, $14. Out came a cast iron pan with small bits of steak with a garlic aioli. There were also two very small pieces of French bread. The waitress did not bring any plates to eat it off of. We had to ask for plates. The steak was good, the aioli was good, but two small pieces of bread for a cast iron pan full of steak, come on. We ate the rest with a fork. I ordered the Jambalaya. The menu said " served over rice". I asked if it was possible to get the rice on the side, I'm diabetic and can't eat a lot of carbs. The waitress said no, it's all mixed together. Ok, I'll do. When it came out, the jambalaya was in a bowl and the rice was a mound, obviously poured out of a bowl in the center. It would have been very easy to just leave it in a bowl and serve it on the side. The chicken in the jambalaya was dry and chewy. The shrimp were size of a dime, can't make those taste good. The andouille sausage was sliced as thin as piece of pepperoni, dry. All and all, very disappointing. My wife ordered the caprese pasta with chicken. Per the menu, pasta with pesto, cherry tomatoes, white beans,and mozzarella, with chicken. Her chicken was like mine, dry. She counted, she had three white beans, three halves of cherry tomato and no mozzarella. Lots of onion pieces. Mentioned to the waitress that we wondered if we ordered the wrong meal. She said no, there should have been " some kind of cheese in there". She came back and said she told the cook and the manager that there was no mozzarella in the dish and then handed me the $92 bill. The bartenders were great, the view as great and the lodge is great. The view combined with the food and drink make this a must stop in door county. The space is great, wide open with a bar in the middle and water views for everyone inside. The lobster ravioli was good, but the seafood casserole special was well worth it. The lemon crust on top of the dish combined with all of the flavors made it a real winner. Stop on by even for a drink, the views are well worth it. It's a little expensive for what you get, 6.63 for a summer shandy on tap. read more

Great view, good food, and a full bar with a nice wine selection. We were there for a late lunch on a weekend afternoon in October, so the crowd was pretty thin. There was a bartender and 2 waitresses and it did take a few minutes for our waitress to find her way to our table, but once she did she was attentive and delightful. My wife ordered chowder and a salad and both were fresh and tasty. I got the BBQ Pork sandwich, which had a nice flavor but I did ask for a side of sauce as it needed a bit more for my taste. The sauce was quickly delivered but was refrigerator cold, but otherwise tasty. The view is phenomenal and our white wine was served nicely chilled and it was enjoyable to sit and sip it and watch the scenery. read more

We enjoyed a Sunday night dinner. Cheese curds for an appetizer- ranch was a 8.5/10. Dinner was great - scallops, jambalaya, potstickers-- everyone enjoyed their meal. One person commented that she wants to eat more potstickers now as they were so good! Good service! read more

Top Deck boasts about a stunning view and they're not lying. Three walls of windows give panoramic views of Lake Michigan and a small, but awesome deck lets you sit basically on the water. The food is very good, not amazing, but definitely better than you might expect for a little out-of-the-way resort in Door County. The bar tenders have all been friendly without exception and the mood is one where you can't help, but feel you're on vacation. I'm not sure you'll find many prettier places to eat lunch or dinner or just get a few drinks in Door County. Just to be clear though, if you're looking for a "fun bar scene" this probably isn't the place for you. Cute and cozy would describe Top Deck better than "fun night out partying." We ordered the $26 cod...very dry and tough and the beer batter was heavy and tough too...the coleslaw was tiny and warm and the potatoe pancakes were over salted (couldn't eat them!). We just spent a few days at Gordon Lodge and ate here twice. The first time the food was a solid meh. Edible and at least it was hot. The second time, the food was terrible. Cold, disgusting. We ordered fish tacos and there was bbq sauce that was on it. Who does that? It was an abomination. My husband had the meatloaf sandwich, and it tasted like school lunch. We were drinking during the day so did the responsible thing and stayed in. Door Dash is not a thing here. We ate it since it was take out, they are slow to begin with and we were starving. The only reason they exist is because of their beautiful view and the fact they are the only restaurant in the resort. We would've been better off bringing in cheese and meat to create our charcuterie meal. read more

The food and drinks here would have a hard time comparing to the picturesque setting. If you time your dinner right, the sun sets as you look over the small bay and it indeed has the tone of all things Door County. I was impressed that they had Bell's Two Hearted in bottles and a wide variety of other beers, and I enjoyed the bites I had of my family's food as well as my own. Indoor and Outdoor seating is available--live music at certain times as well. read more

We were disappointed at this restaurant. We went because of the good reviews, but we did not experience the same. The location is very nice, overlooking at the water and the grounds of the lodge beautiful. However, the dinner was not great. Because of the heat, we decided to go with something lighter. I had the fish tacos. The fish was overcooked (fried) and it looked like they opened a can of black beans and emptied it on my dish. I do dislike restaurants cooking Mexican food if they dont have a good feel for it! My husband had the Nicoise salad, which was literally drenched in a mayo-based dressing!!!! It was actually swimming in it. It looked nothing like a Nicoise salad...the most unhealthy version you can imagine. The bread was great. We wont be going back. read more

Last year we enjoyed a nice meal outdoors at the Top Deck so this past weekend while on vacation we came back with the whole family. The setting is gorgeous overlooking the bay (live music on Wednesdays and Sundays), the food is casual but good and the waitstaff friendly. Top Deck review: Amazing service as soon as you walk in the door; employees are always smiling and checking up on you. Wherever you're seated, you'll have a great view of the bay. I had the Cherry BBQ Flatbread (which was a special for the evening) and the Cherry Crisp for dessert. It was a very filling meal, and the crisp was excellent! I can only speak for the drinks and not the food. But it was a nice bar with a nice view. Smaller in size with the feel of a yacht club, it was a nice place for a night cap while staying on the property. I would probable give it a 3.5 more than a 4. We were hoping to watch the Olympics while having a cold drink...we were only one for 2. But it did fit with the look and feel of the Gordon Lodge. If looking for an exciting place this is not it, but if looking for a quite and quant place for a drink and maybe a nice conversation ...this could be a nice option. read more

Excellent place to eat even if you aren't staying at the classy Gordon Lodge. The menu is a good eclectic mix of options with a nice wine list. The number of beers on tap is a bit limited, but has some Wisconsin classics (i.e. Spotted Cow). You won't regret coming here! read more

This is not only in a really lovely setting but ia great place to dine. This is the place to come to for a nice lazy afternoon/evening. The service was excellent and the food was really good. I thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian dish with stuffed edamame- one of the best ever. I'd love to go back just to taste it again. I'm not even kidding! It was a take on a Japanese potsticker dish 'gyoza'. The dipping sauces were fantastic. After dinner we sat outside and watched the sun set over the waters. So peaceful! read more

I've been coming to the Top Deck for years. The views are great, the grounds are beautiful. Great place for drinks and sunset watching. But given the incredible scenery, I always thought the food was just so-so, and rather expensive. My lunch yesterday might be the last time I visit. I ordered chicken breast sandwich, with the door county topping (cherry barbecue sauce with applewood bacon) , My sandwich was dry, and over cooked, served on a plain hamburger bun. My wife ordered a veggie burger( I think). After the first bite we both looked at each other and said we need some sauce, ketchup and barbecue to give these dry sandwiches some bite. And so we waited patiently for our waitress. Ten minutes later, I finally walked up to the bar to request the sauces. Our waitress nowhere to be seen. (Sunday at noon, maybe 10 people in restaurant). After returning to my table, on the outside deck, I looked down to see thousands of dead ants on the ground and the side of building where our table leaning against. Unbelievable. I know it's outside, but if it was properly cleaned, I don't think you would have this problem. So I'll come back for the drinks and view, but they have lost me for food. read more

Small place on the upper floor of a boathouse. Offers a stunning view, which you may be paying a bit for, but that's okay. We've never actually eaten here, just drinks. But we have had family members go who will vouch that the food is good. We definitely would like to return and get the full experience. read more

I wish I could give this restaurant 5 starts! 5 starts for the food and 2 for the service. The food was absolutely phenomenal!! The food was some of the best food I have had in a long time. We had the black wings (amazing!), Caesar salad, and mushroom medley alfredo (supurb!). The view was gorgeous and the convenience of a great restaurant on property (we stayed at the lodge) was wonderful. The big downside to this restaurant was that the staff was oblivious to needs and never thought one step ahead. It took at least 10 minutes to be acknowledged at the bar and it wasn't that busy. Then took about 20 minutes just to receive our drinks. My sister and I ordered a few different items to share so we had variety and when the food came out, did not have silverware or plates. Then when the entrée came, there wasn't an additional plate. Very odd to serve people this way. After I asked for a second plate, we waited 10 minutes before anyone appeared out of the back and the young guy put the plate near a serving station and was distracted by someone. Finally the bartender noticed and went and got it. I didn't see any older adults working there. Maybe the manager was off that night (9/1/16) because it really looked like these young adults needed some guidance or training. read more

Add me to the 5 star list as I eat here each year on an annual sojourn from Seattle back to the "old country" of Wisconsin where I was born and raised.
