There's a walking path that leads the way and there is some cool art work leading up to the park. While there we saw many different people doing tricks. There are plenty of places to stand and watch. I don't skate but I enjoyed watching different people of different ages doing some really cool tricks. I recommend this place if you are a skater or you just like to watch people as they practice their skating skills.

Lots of families lots of kids and a favorite of dog lovers. The negative is people who let their dogs off the leash to chase the squirrels and think this is ok. It is not. The other is the intermittent noise from planes taking off and landing in adjacent Santa Monica Airport (which thankfully is closing in coming years.) unfortunately there aren't many food options nearby so you have to bring your own. It was founded by Abbot Kinney as a destination seaside resort in the early 19th century and the street named after him used to be a great place to go shopping: -If you start at the south end near the pier you can see a neighborhood with actual canals and bridges that is fun to walk through. -Muscle beach is more like an outdoor gym now and not as grimy and primitive as it used to be. -Skateboarding bowl is famous and even on a weekday we same many skateboarders there, one of them was skateboarding barefoot! -The basketball courts are also quite famous and sometimes you'll see some famous streetballers playing here. -There is a strong smell of weed everywhere and a couple headshops. The most annoying people are the ones trying to hustle CDs or get you to go to their weed shop.

I was always mistaken thinking I've been here before, but that was actually Santa Monica. Goes to show how little I go out and touch beach sand if that makes any sense. The board walk is along side the beach and you can either pay for parking at any of the lots and help support the maintenance of the beach or you can do metered parking or free street parking, you just have to pay attention to the signs and be okay with walking. Lots of things to see and it's super bustling and lively on the board walk, especially on the weekends. They recommend people to walk their bikes here, so you can easily just walk it. Gift shops, novelty stores, cannabis and magic mushrooms stores, cafe's, quick service food restaurants, art displays, street performers and vendors, people walking their dogs, and much more. Be wary of the drop shipping resellers or the boot leg items, but there's lots of original artwork and crafts being vended by people. I hate all of the AI advertisements thought, none of it makes the food look good and makes my skin crawl so I'm wishing vendors would take note of this. Very innovative to see some of the designs of shirts, Snoop Dog's ice cream parlor (sadly not opened), and people selling shaved ice on the go and much more. Also keep your hands busy so people don't try to push something in your hands and make you purchase it. Tourist trap prices for certain things, but then there are people making an honest living selling ice cold water bottles for $1 which is pretty fair if you think about it. I don't think I'll go out of my way to be here, but interesting to be at at least once.

The event was held on the basketball courts. Beautiful park lots of families in the sandbox. Tai chi class on the grassy area. Baseball diamond being utilized as well. The park was fantastic, pristine and spacious with a top tier playground. Felix's parents claimed a prime seating area right outside the playground, where we could eat and socialize while keeping an eye on our various kids. The set-up felt very safe and easy. I admit to losing track of my five-year-old for long stretches at a time, and once finding him in a piece of playground equipment with a group of children he didn't know, giggling as two of their dads spun them around and around. My two-year-old spent a lot of time in the sand with several toddler friends, pouring sand into a play table and also all up in their clothes. We brought our elderly basset hound Duke in a mobility stroller, and he got lots of attention, too. It was a nice outing for our whole family. I also couldn't help but notice that the park was right next to the Santa Monica Airport and other airplane-themed entertainment. We live pretty far from Marine Park, but I have a feeling we'll be back.

We were there in the early mid-morning and listened to a talk about the watershed preservation. I was impressed with how clean everything was and most especially the restroom. They were super clean, well maintained, and well lit. Me and my daughter felt safe. I was surprised to note that when we returned later in the day that there is an attendant available to answer questions or provide support. This place is a winner in my book.

There are only a few shaded areas with picnic tables, so majority of the people had picnic blankets and lawn chairs. Though there were a lot of people, there was still plenty of room to walk around, which I appreciated. The only thing I didn't like was that they closed the restrooms at the usual time, even though the concert didn't start until 7PM. So before the concert even started, we were left with either using the port-a potty or walking all the way to Trader Joe's. If you're wanting to attend one of their events, it's advisable to come early, but if coming here on a regular day, I think it's a perfect place to take in the views, and walk around.
