Food was good. However our bartender upcharged us. My sis ordered a Patron margarita. The bill comes and we discovered that shawty charged $24 per margarita because a double shot of patron is used to make the drink which cost $12 a shot and would ultimately bring the price up to $24. First of all that makes no damn sense who makes their prices by the amount of shots in a drink? Not even in NEW YORK has the shit happened. Secondly if a drink is gonna be over $15 or over $20 you need to let the customer know. There was no damn menu or nothing. That was some bullshit and I hope her ass gets fired. Then had to nerve to try and cop an attitude when she was called out on her shit. AND THEN! goes I'll just $7 off each drink. Like no shawty you trying it. Never going back to that bar again. I came here with my mom a little while back for an afternoon crab feast. Our server was friendly and checked on us regularly to make sure we were enjoying our meal and had whatever we needed. I ordered cocktails and the bartender did a nice job with those, and the price was fair. The crab was fresh, sweet, and delicious, and the servings were more than reasonable. My mom and I both enjoyed our meals. It's conveniently located right near the corner of Germantown and Chelten Avenues in Germantown. I stopped in for a late lunch the other day (weekday) & it was about 10ppl total. The bartender was pleasant, personable and very courteous. The waitress was nice, our order took a while, but when it came I was pleased. I had the mussels and crab legs which were seasoned to my liking. My friend had the salad w/ shrimp which was pretty darn amazing (made me wish I'd ordered that instead). We also tried the potato salad and seafood salad. Neither were anything to write home about. I didn't have any drinks, but he bar was stocked w/ some pretty good choices. I hear it gets lit in there at night & on the weekends so I'd probably just stick to midday visits. My husband was craving seafood salad and didn't wanna go all the way to Bobs in north philly. He got a seafood salad and platter of chicken wings with fries. The seafood salad was such a disappointment, it had about a full tablespoon of old bay dumped in the center of what I can only describe as shreds and bits of imitation crab meat. But for $6 I get it. The chicken was a beautiful golden brown but was under cooked and had a weird aftertaste like it wasn't fresh, fries were soggy and bland. My husband said it was really nice inside and was renovated and had a nice crowd and good music. So if if you're going to drink and chill I think it would be a nice spot but for food I'd pass because it wasn't worth the $18. read more

Big let down ! Don't come here if you want to drink, there's no such thing as "put it on my tab" because it's CASH ONLY! For the prices and being a bar, it definitely should have card options. Because no one is going outside to use that dingy ATM in this neighborhood...I ordered crab legs and was having a hard time with the arm and asked for a nut cracker/mallet, it wasn't available, so a seafood place doesn't have the utensils The meal itself was good but it wasn't filling and so we left still hungry. read more

This past Sunday was my 2nd visit to Crab House. The decor has been updated but the service is not worth the wait. When ordering staff ask for a 15-20 minute wait after ordering Fine!. I decided to have a drink while I wait so I order a Long Island Iced Tea. The bartender brings me a tall glass of ice liquor with a splash of juice. I asked if I could have have more juice she looked at me like I was crazy for asking for juice. I could barely drink it because it was entirely too damn strong so not even half way through my drink I gave up and chose not to sip anymore. After about 20-25 minutes after sipping on my Fire Water Iced Tea I started to wonder if my order was ready or not so I go to the counter to retrieve my platter and it was sitting up on the shelf for God knows how long. Wife and I went to Philly last weekend for the Caribbean festival and a lecture at MKA institute down the street. Hungry and unfamiliar with the area, we walked into this dive. It's 1/2 bar, 1/2 restaurant. The sounds from the bar area are urban and raw, so don't bring your children here. However, MAN the restaurant side has some FANTASTIC food. We had the lamb chops with homemade mac and cheese. These were the best seasoned lamb chops I have EVER had in a restaurant, and we order lamb often. The mac and cheese was fresh, tasty. The cook here is next level. We're quiet types and were uncomfortable with the vibe from the bar, but after eating we still decided to stay an extra 20 minutes to get another order of lamb to take back to the hotel. I've been to the Crab House a few times. Depending on when you go the crab house it can be a restaurant, bar, or club. The food here is good and alcohol makes it taste even better. I come here for more of a hang out so I don't have much to say about the menu but the few things I've had were good and the people I'm with have never had any complaints. I generally come to drink and people watch. If your a little older or just want food I recommend coming early because at night its party time and its barely standing room. The crowd is generally friendly give or take a few idiots. The staff is friendly and efficient even during heavy crowds. One bartender was even kind enough to allow me to take her photo to include with the review. Although I don't have much to say about the crab house I give it 4stars because I've never had a bad time there and it keeps me wanting to come back. read more

Seriously unpleasant experience. I had a craving for crab and decided to check out this place in my neighborhood, as I'd rather support a local business than hit a chain like Joe's Crab Shack. This was at about 6:30 on a Sunday. Not too crowded (maybe 8 customers eating food and another 8-10 at the bar). On the plus side, I can agree with the reviews in praise of the bartender. She made us generous drinks that were strong and worth the price. Pretty much everything else was awful. A couple of the guys sitting at the bar decided to have their conversation at the tops of their lungs - which went on for a good 20 min before they left. The waitress was a complete newbie (by her own admission) and didn't know the menu, couldn't answer questions, etc. As we were waiting for the food, which took a really long time given how not busy they were, the music got cranked up to 11, making it impossible to have a conversation with my dining partner. We asked them to turn it down a little, and they did, but it gradually got turned back up over the course of the next half hour. They were using someone's cellphone Spotify - so there were commercials and the flow was interrupted by personal phone calls blasted over the loudspeaker. Tacky. When the food arrived, it was overcooked. The mussels were shriveled little bits of nothing from being overcooked. The crab was also overcooked such that it was stringy inside. And get this they did not provide ANY implements for dismantling the crab. No nutcrackers, no little forks, no little pokey implements. Nothing. We asked twice and they said they had none. HOW ARE YOU A CRAB HOUSE WITH NO TOOLS FOR EATING CRABS?! No little hammers, no nothing. Then as we were eating, a random drunk man came over to our table and first flattered us and then asked us for money so he could buy another drink. He wouldn't go away despite being asked to leave us alone several times. There was a security guard near the door who did nothing even though my dining companion was trying to get his attention. Eventually, the cook came out of the kitchen and got the guy to leave. Our waitress brought the bill saying "whenever you're ready" and then came back 10 min later asking us to pay now, even though we were not yet finished with our meal. I understand that this place functions as a club and neighborhood hangout later at night... which is why I went early, hoping to discover a great local place for seafood. Not so much. The crab cakes are great and filled with crab meat; macaroni & cheese not so great. The Mac & cheese taste like Kraft which wasn't what I expected in a bar/restaurant. The service is amazing, and the servers/barmaids are attentive. Great place, I'll just avoid the side orders. read more

It's possible that I could have come here on a bad night, or had the wrong bartender but I don't get the hype... A friend and I decided to check it out, after hearing a lot about it, a couple of weeks ago. When we got there around 9:30, on a Friday night, it was still a little slow so we had no problem finding a seat at the bar. We ordered from the menu (crabcake platter for me, hot wing platter for her), and were served by a waitress at the bar. The food was pretty good, and fairly priced, in my opinion. The drinks however, though they were pretty good, we're much too expensive. I didn't expect to be paying center city prices in Germantown. We paid our food bill with the waitress, and our drink bill with the bartender. I had three mixed drinks, which came up to 40 bucks(??)! I think that's a bit much for that neighborhood. As far as the hangout, the only way I know to describe it is "hood". Most of the ppl there, including the bartenders, must live in the area and seem to all know each other. I thought the business was black owned until we were joined by an Asian man who's presence made the "heavy handed" bartenders tighten up while making their friends' drinks. Went to crab house on my birthday which was JUNE 24, THIS PAST SATURDAY, came in found seating for 4 which was pleasant until I went to get drinks for me and my wife. The bar maid was involved in a conversation with her friends and it seemed as if I had to wait almost 10mins until she acknowledged the fact I was standing there. I had the nerve to give her a $2.00 tip on top of that. Then ordered our food, I asked for fish and fries, the lady brings me shrimp and I'm allergic to shrimp. After my order was resubmitted I waited another 45-50mins and still gave the young lady a tip, wow. Now you understand why it's difficult to dine in the hood, the worker's PAY more attention to their friends than customers but if you go out of the neighborhood and spend your money owners don't understand, well now you do. Then when someone doesn't tip you truly can understand. The food is great, but the service needs improvement ASAP.... On a positive note the decor has changed and it looks great but folks at the bar have to acknowledge other customers besides their friends. read more

Was there a couple years ago and never went back. As I was waiting for my food, I saw a few roaches. I told the cook and he told me to talk to the Owner/manager (I'm not sure who she was) and he pointed to a lady sitting at the end of the bar. When I approach the lady and told her about the roaches I just saw she was very nonchalant and just said, "Yeah I know I'm calling the exterminator tomorrow" all I'm thinking is why wait for tomorrow what you can do today!!! At some point there was 1 roach and that's when she should have called the exterminator. Never again will I eat there!!! read more
