If you want really good wings try anywhere but this place. The wings were hard as a rock. Well done DOES NOT mean burnt, nor does it mean hard as a rock. Additionally, they don't care if you spent your money on hard wings. They are not accommodating to requests made to exchange the rock hard wings for a new order of wings, but instead have the expectation you should simply settle for less and eat the rock hard wings that were initially served. Needless to say, the customer service sucks. Other places that have much BETTER wings (especially if you eat a few, and save them to eat as left overs, or eat the next day) are: Mt. Airy Taproom Toska (a few doors from McMennamins) Tavern on the Hill Chestnut Hill Grill Campbell's Place Shucks...even Wingstop (Conshohocken) When wings are not overcooked, you can enjoy them whenever you please. It's simply called the art of cooking..and knowing how to do so properly. read more

Great to be back in the neighborhood I grew up in! Everyone friendly, a true neighborhood gem and gathering place. The food was excellent for a small bar. We had the grilled flat iron steak with beets and goat cheese served with mashed potatoes and green beans- highly recommend! Good tap selection. read more

Last weekend I came here to watch an Eagles game and the vibe in this establishment was immaculate. Every time we (the Eagles) scored a touchdown, they would mute the tv and sign "fly Eagles fly" and everyone would sign along, in addition to ringing the bell they had. Food I ordered was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. read more

The food is EXCELLENT. I've been patronizing McMenamin's for over 10 years. The food is STILL delicious, before and after the Pandemic. The prices are still fair. The drinks are great. The fried chicken tenders are sublime, LOL!!!!! Ialso like the salads, the burgers and fried shrimp. I even have the key lime pie for dessert when its offered. All tasy, yummy, nom-nom good. The servers & bartenders are cool, chill, welcoming. The vibe is locally hip. Just go and enjoy. read more

My friend and I stopped in at McMenamin's for drinks after a show a few weeks ago, and it was the perfect place for drinks on a Friday night in Mt. Airy. We didn't have any food, but I enjoyed a Guinness while my friend enjoyed some cider. The service at the bar was great, and the vibes are just good. McMenamin's is old school, a great classic Irish pub: great seating, lots of TVs, wood bar, lots of people having a good time. Definitely a place I'd be happy to return to for food or drinks in the future. read more

This is the MT. Airy/ Germantown spot to chat and chill with neighbors and make new friends. Folks here are pretty cool and they serve a mean shrimp basket. Just watch out for parking meter maids on G-town Ave. They are on the prowl in the afternoons. read more

Came here to watch the game a few times. It's a typical bar atmosphere but the food is really really good. The first time I got the burger and OMG!!! I'm such a burger type of girl. Hands down some of the best fish and chips, in the city. The batter is crispy without being super oily and the fish is tender and juicy. I've been coming here for decades and they are very consistent. The fish and chips are my favorite, but I've also tried the shrimp, veggie burgers and their garden salad is very yummy with their house made balsamic dressing. They also have daily specials, and their wings are very popular. The space is casual, and good for a no thrills date night, when the Phillies or Eagles are playing. They even have outdoor dining and a good selection of beers, and wine. Great neighborhood spot! You won't be disappointed. read more

I posted about a bad experience several years ago but since coming back I've had more good experiences than bad. The food is consistent. The service is good. The prices are fair. A friend of mine took me to this area because we were supposed to go to another restaurant, but that place was closed down. We were trying to figure out where to go to grab a bite to eat and a beer, when suddenly the most delightful smells came from the doorway of McMenamin's Tavern. I must say the inside and outside are clean and a Really nice place. The staff are All very attentive and when you walk in, you feel Very Comfortable and Relaxed!! The hot wings here are the best Buffalo wings in Philly. A couple years ago my employer sent me to a conference in Toronto and I deferred the flight so that I could drive and stop in Buffalo on the way up and on the way back to do some wing tours. McMen's Hot Wings are every bit as good as Anchor Bar's, only bested marginally by Gabriel's Gate, and better than any of the others I had in Buffalo. My original review talked about Moriarity's... their wings fell off over a decade ago. read more

Finally got to stop in here, and I'm glad I did. This was on a weekday for lunch, and it was moderately busy. I was pleased to see that the staff and customers reflected the diversity of the Mt. Airy-Germantown area (contrary to one now-prominent Yelp review). We found the staff and other partrons to be friendly and down-to-earth, in rather an old fashioned, homey bar-restaurant. The definition of what a neighborhood pub should be. I was also worried that the fare would be very old-school meat-oriented pub grub. It was not. There were any number of vegetarian options, and the first-listed lunch special was explicitly labelled "GF/vegan." Nice, too, is the excellent draft beer list, which included, on this occasion, a cask Yards IPA. I had one of the lunch specials, a cheese, mushroom, and tomato on wheat grilled sandwich - kind of a panini. Excellent. Reasonable price, too, at $8. My deputy Yelper, whose appetite for a cheeseburger was what got us here in the first place, praised the burger overall, while lamenting that his "medium rare" burger was more in the direction of medium than rare. He also the critiqued the bun as being unremarkable. Everyone's a critic! Of course he devoured burger AND bun. The french fries, however, really get the award, and I can confirm that myself. Outstanding! Huge serving (we took some home). Certainly among the best I've ever had, perhaps they are really twice fried. Will be back! read more

This is my favorite local bar I always wanted. The staff look like they work hard with a smile on their face. They love sports. They have a great tap rotation. Even their food is elevated in relation to the price. The atmosphere is crowded quick service, but if you stop by the day no one is opposed to talking to you, just busy at night so it appears there is only time to work and short chats. McMenamin must have looked far and wide for that staff front and back of the house. 5 stars. read more

McMenimin's is a terrific, very popular neighborhood bar/restaurant. It can be noisy, but if you sit in the back room, the noise is not too bad. We were there on a weeknight (Tuesday), and yet every table was filled by 7 o'clock. The food is better than one would expect for this kind of place. The fish and chips, chef's salad with portobello mushrooms and plant-based "cheeseburger" were all excellent. And portions were huge. The server was very pleasant. The reasons why this is 4 stars and not 5: No cocktail list at all and just a few not-so-great wines by the glass. And the entrees were served way before we were finished with the appetizers. They must have thought we had to catch a train. If you don't mind being rushed like crazy, then you might give McMenamin's 5 stars. read more

I think this Tavern truly is a burger and fries type of establishment. We ordered 3 shrimp linguine and it was a BIG mistake. The shrimp are inedible. They taste like they had frost bite and were then cooked but they're awful. In addition, there's no flavor to the sauce. It's loaded with garlic and has a butter base but it's flavorless. I called to tell them and I was told I would have to come in the store and Paul told met they could make me a new order- why would I want that? I drove all the way back for a refund because they didn't want to give it over the phone and when I arrived, it took three people to look over the shrimp. I work in the service industry and clearly they don't want people coming back if after they serve inedible food they need to do a full "Top chef" three judge inspection of the food. I can order from ANYWHERE, why would I ever in life want to order from here again? read more

We have been to McMenamin's countless times and it's our bar and people--outstanding food and drinks and Covid hasn't changed anything. This is the heart and soul of Mt. Airy. If you know, you know already; if you don't, it will soon become your neighborhood favorite. Got takeout multiple times since March but this evening was the first time to have drinks outside (indoor also seems fine and spaced out and safe). Great to see you all again! This is a GREAT neighborhood pub. Everyone is friendly, the crowd is super diverse, the food is really good, there is always a good beer list. When staying in the area I make it a point to get here for a bit just to escape wherever "home" is that night. You should consider doing the same. A warning though... When there are big games on you won't be able to get a seat. read more

I learned later that this restaurant has been around since the early to mid 1900's. Plenty of parking in a large open lot. The place is very large and has one of the longest bars I've seen. The wood is very dark and you can see the chefs cooking over the hearth. They don't take reservations and won't see you until your entire party is there. One of the things I liked for our party of 10 was they had no problems with seating as they also have many large round tables. For mixed drinks, they make them pretty big and potent. For my martini, they sent back an extra glass. They also had great bleu cheese stuffed olives. We ordered onion rings (8 large to an order) and fried zucchini. The onion ring I had was pretty good. I didn't have the fried zucchini but heard it was also pretty good. Other than the light fare items, all dinners come with their salad bar which has both iceberg lettuce and Caesar Salad along with many fixings as well as cheeses and bread. I had the Baked Seafood Platter which came with scallops, shrimp, Clam Casino (without the shell), Maryland crab cake and a small lobster tail for $49.99. My wife had the baked chicken breast which she said was quite dry. The dining area is quite large and reminds me of the restaurants at a casino. Some in our group said it reminds them of Medieval Times due to the dark wood vibe. While I thought it was a bit pricey, I would still come back and try their signature steaks or prime rib.

The food menu looks great, typical bar fare which is nice. They have touch tunes system so you can play some tunes if you choose. A lot of regulars frequent this place and the ones I met were very nice & welcoming. Will be back soon. A lot of people on yelp complain about them being a "cash only" place. That's their choice, get over it. If you didn't see the 4 cash only signs that's your fault. Besides, not paying credit card surcharges helps keep their liquor & beer prices reasonable.

This way it was easy for our group to talk. I saw someone else drinking a drink that looked really good so I just ordered that without looking at the menu. It was in a champagne glass and had an orange peel in it. This drink was delish and I would order it again. I ordered the caesar w salmon. The salad itself was fine but the dressing didn't taste at all like caesar dressing. I still ate the whole thing - but just didn't love the dressing. The bartender was running around like crazy and I felt bad for her that she had to work so hard.

The portions were great (there were a few spears of asparagus) and the lukewarm risotto (expected considering it was delivered) was creamy and flavorful. There was a but more oil than I would have liked floating at the bottom, and the sauce was a bit salty, but not so much that I couldn't enjoy the super tender morsels of beef. I look forward to trying something else on the menu soon.

It can get pretty crowded on either upstairs or downstairs space. Very noisy as you would expect for a pub. Lots of TVs and not a lot of moving room, just watch your step down the stairs. No cover, apparently there's a third floor that we didn't realize was there, would've made it easier as a bigger group to go up, I think -- our space was reserved but it was too small for the group, so we have to plan better next time. Like the signs by the stairs, though.
