    French Onion Soup

This is the first restaurant we ever ate at in Chestnut Hill--even prior to moving to the neighborhood. While it's been a couple of years since the move, we still enjoy coming to Tavern on the Hill. It brings back a lot of pleasant memories for us. The food is good, and the service (Stephanie/Stefanie(?) was great!) is friendly. The space is a bit dark, but it gives off neighborhood bar vibes with a seated dining area in the back. This time, I ordered entirely off the "Specials" menu. I was pleased to see the French Onion Soup was back; I had it years ago when we first visited, and it was as delicious as I remember it--cheesy, flavorful, and utterly satisfying. The Breaded Pork Cutlets were served in a generous portion size. As happy as I was with the presentation and taste, my inner voice wished there was only one cutlet with an increased proportion of potatoes and broccoli. Overall though, another great meal at Tavern on the Hill.

The last 2 weeks in August I feel are a great time to check out eateries that have been on your mind but may be overly crowded the rest of the year. A sunny 84 degree Saturday in Chestnut Hill was the perfect backdrop for walking the cobblestone lined stretch of Germantown Avenue and checking out posh shops and great eateries like Tavern on the Hill. Shawn was behind the bar and greeted us warmly. There were only 2 other patrons in the establishment that were on their way out. The cool dimly lit interior was a welcomed contrast from the sunny summer day. We were escorted to our table by a nice gentleman (I'm sorry, I do not remember his name) who pointed out the specials on the board. One of those specials was the Southwestern Soup (pictured)...absolutely delightful! We also ordered a cheesesteak w/provolone (lol that person isn't from Philly), Buffalo wings and coconut shrimp. Everyone really njoyed their food. I would definitely recommend paying this quaint Tavern a visit.

Tavern on the Hill (formerly Hill Tavern) has transformed itself over the years from an everyday drinking bar to more of a gastro-pub atmosphere. Indeed its warm back dining room is replete with a fireplace and the woody front bar looks more clubby than dive. An appeal to a wider clientele has resulted and now this spot is a quite popular dining venue. There's even music on Friday evenings. The food to me however is more often only average or just a little bit above. I recently had the French onion soup which was tasty enough but def not hot enough. The green salad with bleu cheese dressing was standard which was fine. My main course was a beef & cheese sandwich that was decidedly not something memorable or I would order again. Where was the cheese? The sweet potato fries lacked crispness and appeared to just have been heated up. My friend however reported very much enjoying his filet mignon dinner. Side note - there were no condiments on the table including no salt or pepper and I gave up trying to flag down our busy waitress to get some pepper or hot sauce. Despite all this, I actually like the Tavern on the Hill because of its atmosphere and location. Staff are welcoming as well. And they def have some good beer choices!

Cozy, dark little restaurant with a small bar area and good comfort food. Good sandwiches but will also have more elaborate entrees.

This is a good local date spot in Chestnut Hill. It's very cozy and I recommend the mushroom fries.

We were a party of four, and we took the time to socialize however after about 15 minutes the waitress returned and did take our drink orders along with an appetizer order. The busboy brought our appetizers and quickly walked away leaving us to find our own napkins for the finger food. At this point we knew the night was going to be sad, when we received our food before the busboy could leave again we asked if he could bring us some cutlery. We ordered two meals with my strip steaks and one penne pasta dish and one Mac and cheese dish, the pasta plates were the best simply due to the charcoal burnt ends of the steaks. The waitress remained vacant for the night and we had to request our bill to leave. Not quite sure what was the problem this night however just stay cautious and calm if you visit.

Spelling). Right after the opening we enjoyed Buddy, I thought this was his show, then following Buddy we enjoyed another comic (sooo sorry- loved him but his name escapes me!) I thought it was the 2nd performers show, then come Joe! Three talented & accomplished comedians in their own right. We had a wonderful time last night. I haven't been to a comedy show in almost 30 years. It was a lot of fun and so much fun to laugh. The comedians did a great job improving w the audience. I would also like to add that our cocktail server was very attentive. If you go- The Vault is on The Raddison side and we parked on the casino side. Easy enough to get to though with the adjoining inside hallways. I'll definitely go back. I never even knew that this quality entertainment was practically right in my backyard!
