Steamed clams

This is a great local place with some serious history. If you're looking for a place off the tourist trail, this is a great find. Our meal was pretty standard old Florida seafood shack fare and we loved hearing the story of the deviled crab rolls family recipe from Renee. Parking is a little challenging with the construction around the building, so plan to visit at non-peak times!

Our waiter, Renee was such a sweetheart! We are continuing customers for several years and Crab Shack never disappoints. The food was tasty and fresh. They made sure everything came out to their satisfaction before being it out for us. The ambiance is very homey and comfortable. Great place to try out if you're in the area.

I love this restaurant! It's not fancy, but it has some AMAZING seafood. We have been here multiple times and it's always delicious. I especially love the steamed mussels appetizer any broiled fish they serve, and the fresh oysters. This place is such a gem.

I visited with my aunt because she recommended this location and spoke highly of the food and atmosphere . She has been visiting for years. I wasn't disappointed at all. The staff was friendly, inviting, and warm. We were confused initially if we should seat ourselves so we did. The crabs were fresh, the garlic butter (to die for), and the Spicy Cajun Creole Soup with 6 seafoods was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it over rice with some crackers. Next time I'd like to try the dungeness crabs and a host of other deliciousness on the menu.

Shack Mussels (Newfoundland)

The service was very helpful as we needed some suggestions to get started. We came here primarily because of the soft shell crabs which was excellent. The Cajun Gator Sausage was a good suggestion to try something new and wasn't chewy as gator bites can be. We enjoyed that app with the yellow rice. We ate up the Shack mussels (Newfoundland), this is a better choice over the other mussels app in terms of quality, quantity and price. A solid suggestion by our server. The seafood salad was just okay after all the apps.

Fried calamari

3.75 stars. There are plenty of customers when we visited at 4 pm. Very popular spot. We were lucky to get a table. We waited 2o minutes before we can order. The food comes out quick once order was put in. During the happy hour, the app is half price. We got calamari to start. It is just ok. The next app is the coconut shrimp. I like this dish. The entree are the blackened mahi sandwich. I like the blackened sauce with spicy blackened. We also got the scallops shrimp rice. The scallops is great. Service is a bit let down due the crowded restaurant. Other than that, all is good.

Waitress recommended the claws and there were so yummy! The oysters were huge and fresh and the mussels were incredible!! The broth with the mussels was rich and decadent and dipping the bread in it was phenomenal. The atmosphere was little neat hole in the wall. I love non change local places and it delivered.

What was left of the fried seafood platter!

Food was fantastic. Has the ambiance of an old Florida fish camp. Prices were good. I had the fried fisherman's platter. My first fried food in 6 months. It was cooked to perfection in obviously fresh oil. Portions were excellent. Rene our waitress was great. Not a Micheline experience. But not $200 a person. If you want great seafood for really fair prices, this is your stop!

Delicious food. The portion sizes were huge! We had the mussels, sea scallops, and the world's largest fish sandwich. It was some of the best seafood I've had in a while. The service was good, our waitress was helpful. The ambiance was fitting for a sunset dinner.

We were there during their happy hour and early bird special time. The whole place was packed. The inside and outside of the restaurant look rusty and vintage. But don't judge book by the cover. Their seafood is really good. My top favorite was the sauté scallop. They tasted fresh and with perfect texture. They definitely earned 5 star. The blacken mahi was a bit over fired. They left tiny bitter taste on the surface. The appetizers we had calamari and coconut shrimp. They were good. To serve the crowd, the service staff tried their best. Overall, it's a decent seafood place on Gandy , between Saint Pete and Tampa.

Can't beat the prices, ease of location, cheap beers on draft at happy hour, good food, and has that old fish house vibe.

Bamboo, thatch roofs, tiki umbrellas and sand...it's all there. While we were very slow to be acknowledged after being seated, once we were, the service was on point! Orders were taken promptly and delivered in reasonable times. We all ordered from their specialty cocktail list, and we all agreed they were very good. My Miami Mule was one of the best I have had in a while. Fruit flavor was forward, you could actually taste the bite of the ginger beer, and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. While I didn't order food, the rest of my family did and they all enjoyed their meals. The only downside was the bugs! BRING BUG SPRAY! The Getaway is all outdoor, located on the bay in the Mangroves, and it's home to biting insects. We were almost eaten alive by the tiny biting flies (noseeums, flying teeth). They were annoying as hell. While bugs come with the territory, a can of bug spray or a few citronella candles on the tables would be nice.

The menu is extensive with appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees. There is also a nice drink menu. I started with a margarita and our table of 4 shared the fish bites appetizer. Our server was rushing us so much and we just wanted to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon so that was annoying. The fish bites were $17.25 and there were maybe 10 little pieces. Way overpriced, but at least they tasted ok. I ordered 2 chicken tacos with fries. They came out overfilled and were hard to eat, but they were tasty. Others weren't exceptionally happy with their meals. I think service was my big issue. She rushed us to order, but once we ordered we never saw her again for more drinks or just to check on us. After we paid, we went over to the bar area and had another drink. Nicer experience.

The highlight of our visit was our server, Jake. His recommendations were spot-on. He checked on us throughout the meal without ever being overbearing. Appetizers: Spicy Tuna Nachos (with the crab salad and avocado add-on. This was Jake's recommendation) This was hands-down our favorite appetizer. The crab salad and avocado are a must. Everything paired perfectly together, especially with a dash of soy sauce. Kickin' Shrimp with Bread. The shrimp was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The only small suggestion would be to serve the bread in smaller pieces, making it easier to share. Entrees: Loco Moco - 8.5/10: Great flavor and cooked well. The only thing that would have made it even better would be adding some vegetables on the side. Blackened Grouper Fish Tacos - 10/10: Absolutely amazing! The grouper was fresh and not overly fishy, and the mango salsa added the perfect touch of sweetness and saltiness. The flavors were balanced. I'd order these again. Paradise Signature Sushi Roll: Another great addition to our meal. Overall, Hula Bay delivered on every level. We had great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and amazing service from Jake. It's not a big place but they have outdoor seating, the night were were there it was chilly so we sat inside in the back dining room. It's got a fun nautical feel with lots of local references on the walls. We started with the local smoked fish spread and the southern favorite of hush puppies. The fish spread had great flavor and came with the usual saltine crackers, hot sauce and jalepanos. The hush puppies were hot and full of cornbread flavor. I always hope that the usual saltine crackers don't show up with the fish spread but it seems to be a tradition. I ordered the Ahi Tuna tacos and WOW these might be the best I've ever had and I have ordered these all over the country. The amount of Ahi tuna was unexpected and a ton. There wasn't a lot of others ingredients on the tacos so the taste of the tuna was really the main taste and man was it good. My wife ordered the Mahi Taco bowl and was super happy with it as well. It consisted of blackened Mahi topped with Cheddar Jack Cheese, Mango Salsa, Remoulade Sauce, on a bed of Black Beans and Rice. I didn't try it in the restaurant but she brought it home with us and I had her leftovers the next day and they were great. I'm a craft beer guy and my only complaint was they didn't have a big selection of local craft beer. We'll definitely go back and try a few more of the dishes.

This ended up being such a great place and experience that we came back a second time on the weekend - and they were still able to seat our group of 8 pretty quickly despite being very busy. Amazing. The stone crab was allegedly delicious and was ordered a second time on our return. The first night I had the island rice bowl with jerk chicken. It was lovely and I ate every last bite. The rice itself was a bit bland but the flavors around it were great and mixed in with it to make a yummy combo. Any time I'm outside of Wisconsin I try to order an Old Fashioned, but this was definitely not their skillset. It came out tasting like watered down bourbon in an orange slice and a red cherry. So the next time I looked to something else. There were no great looking drinks with brown liquor, so I tried the sangria happy hour (literally a 24/7 happy hour). It was better than most sangrias I've ordered in restaurants so I was content with my choice. Multiple people in our group ended up with the jerk chicken, and they raved about it. A lot of our meals over the week were compared to Rumba's jerk chicken. We got some kind of chicken nachos as an appetizer, and oh my was it heavenly. I'm not a nachos person, but these were to die for. And the chicken on them was scrumptious. My second trip I wasn't starving, so I got the Southern Street Corn Caesar - cuz how amazing does that sound?? Well, it was basically just a Caesar salad (don't get me wrong, it was a good Caesar salad) with a few pieces of corn in it. It was indeed blistered and lovely, but it made absolutely zero impact on the salad. I expected it to be kind of the star of the dish given the name. Oh well. I added blackened shrimp to my Caesar. A great salad regardless, clean plate club once again. I thought this place was great. A casual atmosphere but still a nice setting with good food and super friendly staff. Our first night, Owen was our server and he was an absolute gem. Our second time I am pretty sure we had Tiffany, and she was also a delight. Because I'm starting this review at the beginning of the meal so I will be sure to document it as it progresses for your enjoyment dear reader. Well, some time has passed, and that lofty goal has already been abandoned. Because I devoured the bread service before I had a chance to take a picture of it. I've got to do better. The bread service is absolutely worth it. I do not know what is going on with that dipping sauce, but it is spicy and exquisite. I also did not take a picture of my Mojito but should have. It is a classic Mojito prepared exactly as I remember it from those long ago days in Puerto Rico, where I first sampled this sumptuous libation. Time has passed. Oh my God! The size of the steak! We came for tomahawk Tuesday tonight. That's when you can get an entire tomahawk steak for $109 instead of $139, which makes it about 30% more delicious. Anyway, in order to take a picture of this tomahawk steak I had to zoom out on my iPhone! Because they're just so big I could not fit it in the frame! I ordered mine medium rare and sliced for two, so my lady can share in the enjoyment. Perfection. No notes. The truffle fries are the best I've had anywhere. And they are abundant. A must have. I have to say, this has been one of the best meals of my life to rival Gibsons in Chicago. But what this location lacks in views it makes up for in every other way. Especially the service, which is top-notch. Oh, and did I mention they have complementary valet? This is starting to sound like I was paid to write this review. I was not.
