There's no denying this place looks cool. The Hawaiian Tiki theme and bay setting truly transports you to a Polynesian island oasis. Bamboo, thatch roofs, tiki umbrellas and sand...it's all there. While we were very slow to be acknowledged after being seated, once we were, the service was on point! Orders were taken promptly and delivered in reasonable times. We all ordered from their specialty cocktail list, and we all agreed they were very good. My Miami Mule was one of the best I have had in a while. Fruit flavor was forward, you could actually taste the bite of the ginger beer, and they didn't skimp on the alcohol. While I didn't order food, the rest of my family did and they all enjoyed their meals. The only downside was the bugs! BRING BUG SPRAY! The Getaway is all outdoor, located on the bay in the Mangroves, and it's home to biting insects. We were almost eaten alive by the tiny biting flies (noseeums, flying teeth). I came to the Getaway for a girls brunch recently. Parking is always a nightmare here, especially on a busy weekend. We were promptly seated at a waterside table, luckily we had some shade! A friend highly recommended this spot to me, so I decided to stop by for a quick bite -- and I'm so glad I did. This place is truly a hidden gem... emphasis on hidden! If you're driving, pay close attention because there's no sign on the main road. Additionally there is a small foliage-covered pathway leading to the restaurant that makes you feel like you're going on an adventure. Once you arrive, though, it's absolutely worth it. There's plenty of seating, including a beautiful area by the pier right on the water. The scenery alone makes for a great experience. My table ordered from the happy hour menu: conch fritters, fish dip, fried shrimp, fried grouper, and two Key Lime Coladas. The total came to around $58, which felt very reasonable for the quality and portions. The standout for me was definitely the fish dip, but honestly, everything was fresh and delicious. The ambiance here can't be beat when you want to feel like you're on a tropical vacation but not spend the money on travel. There's so much greenery! You have access to full sun seating or shading tables or bar seating. The service is quick and attentive. The menu has such a great variety of seafood options and it's not just fried shrimp baskets and fish tacos. Yesterday I had the chicken tuna nachos with the raw oysters and my friend had the ceviche with shrimp. We had a fine January Florida Tiki lunch here, @Peter and I. We arrived just before 11am and the parking lot was already full! That's a good sign! There is overflow parking at the beach to the east. Upon checking in to ask for a table, I was asked for a phone number and I was surprised there was a waiting list already!? False alarm... we were seated immediately and given a choice of sun or shade. We picked shade! The tables are spread out and very comfortable, unlike many crowded or touristy places. Sarah was our waitress and she did a very fine job, handling my special ingredient requests (due to a strict doctor ordered diet) with grace. She checked on us but gave us time to chat. Excellent really. I got a mocktail of the bartender's choosing and blackened grouper bowl. The mocktail was tasty and not too sweet like I requested. Most places that advertise Tiki are just open air thatched huts. The Getaway is a large, sprawling, beach front property that winds its way around, among, and through the shady palm trees and thatched pavilions. The atmosphere is truly fantastic! We were offered a variety of seating options. We chose shady with a view of the water. We were led to a wood table with comfortable woven bamboo chairs. The only metal I saw was the silverware and half way hidden speakers. The view of the water included kayakers, small boats, and wooded islands. The January weather was kind to us: 75 degrees! The menu is eclectic. The food was only slightly above average, and the price a little more expensive: you pay for the ambiance. Sarah , our waitress, was cheerful and laid back. Everything about the Getaway is laid back. I ordered a Mai Tai, Calamari, and Volcano Shrimp. We were never rushed and had plenty of time for conversation. The tables are well spread out so you get a feeling of privacy even though there are 30 or so tables in sight, and another 20 or so tucked among the trees and tropical shrubs. This time, I was with an out of town friend who was looking for somewhere on the water to grab a bite as we were headed back from the St. Pete airport. Parking was not bad on a Friday afternoon. We were seated quickly and drink orders were taken quickly. It took a while for drinks to come out, and every longer for a food order to be taken. We had to ask multiple times for water refills. Getaway: the perfect place to sit back, relax, and get scammed! Our group of 6 visited Getaway on a Sunday afternoon. It was packed, but they sat us right away and it was good vibes. Our waitress came over within about 5-10 minutes of us sitting down and we put our drink orders in. All was well, but we were starving so we got our food orders together pretty quickly. Things started to take a turn when we decided we would put our food order in as soon as we got our drinks. 30 minutes later we finally got our drinks and were able to put our food order in. At this point the vibes are still okay, we were a little like "oh no, why did the drinks take that long," but we are the LAST people to really be that bothered. When our waitress finally came back we put everything in and the vibes were back to great (hungry), but great. Food started to come out and one of the salads was supposed to be a wrap, another meal was just forgotten, but both were resolved super quickly, not a biggie at all. One of my friends ordered the "coastal chicken Cobb salad." It's important to really soak in the title of this $20 salad. When you look at the menu description, the first ingredient listed is literally "grilled chicken." So when her salad is placed in front of her, she mentions to the food runner (who had asked us if we needed anything else) that her coastal chicken Cobb salad didn't have any chicken on it. That's when he informs her that if she wanted chicken she had to have added it on and then walks away. We were a little shocked to hear this because who would think they need to ensure there is chicken on a salad titled coastal CHICKEN Cobb salad (that is already priced at $20). We decided we should chat with the waitress because there's no way the salad she ordered didn't come with chicken. When we finally get ahold of our waitress and flag the chicken-less coastal chicken Cobb salad, she informs us of the same thing: "well you had to have added it on." My friend responds with, "but it's in the title," and our waitress then states, "well in our system you have to click add chicken." Now we're all just kinda staring at her asking ourselves if we're the problem lol. She then asks if my friend would like a side of chicken, to which we say... yes... the whole reason for the $20 salad was that it had a protein. She brings the chicken and the vibes are back up, a little hesitant, but okay. Then the bill comes. Not only did they charge the $20 for the coastal chicken-less Cobb salad, but they also charged us $10 for the side of chicken. I took the bill and pulled our waitress to the side and explained that it was a little absurd to pay $30 for a salad. I pointed out that both of the Caesar salads were priced at $14 and the chicken add-on was an extra $4, so why would we pay $30 for this salad?! She was super nice and agreed to take off the $10 chicken. Great, problem solved! I paid the whole bill on my credit card, still left a 20% tip, and off we go. About 10 minutes after we leave and are driving back to our hotel, we get a call saying the card we paid with didn't have enough money on it and that we owe them $11, and they requested we return to pay the balance. The problem with this is that I paid with my credit card that was nowhere near its limit, so how could that possibly be the case? We called back right away but they never answered or called back. When we got back to the hotel I took a closer look at the receipt and noticed that the grand total was $316 after tax, but then further down the bill it shows a total of $328 (with no explanation of what the extra $12 is). I tipped on top of the $328 number, as it had suggested, which landed us at about $386 (which, looking back, wasn't even correct either but it was the suggested amount at the bottom of the bill). All in all, I checked a few days later and they only charged my card $316 and didn't even charge for the tip. Whack experience. Wouldn't recommend. Food was also meh read more

We arrived as a party of five and were quoted a 40‑minute wait. That was fine. We were added to the text waitlist and could see there were 16 parties ahead of us. When we received the text and returned to the host stand, we were told we would be seated in what I believe they called "The Mangrove," though I am not certain of the exact name. It did have a distinct name and is a separate self‑order area on the east side of the property. This area has no table service at all. You must walk up to a window to order and then walk back up to retrieve your food. This was never mentioned when we put our name in, and it is unacceptable to wait 40 minutes for counter service. After some back and forth, we were finally seated in the main dining area at a table that had clearly been empty the entire time. It is also worth noting that there is no indoor seating and no air conditioning anywhere. Everything is open air. On hot days, be prepared to sweat while you eat, even after waiting nearly an hour to be seated. Once seated, it took about 8 to 10 minutes for our server to greet us. Drinks arrived roughly 10 minutes after that. When asked if we wanted water, we said yes. Instead of glasses of water, we were given a pitcher and plastic cups to pour ourselves. Even worse, the server placed the cups on the table while holding them with his fingers inside the cups. That is both disgusting and a health department violation. Food came out fairly quickly but was auctioned off to the table, meaning the runner did not know who ordered what. All three Patty Melts were terrible. The bread was dry, the burgers were overcooked, and despite ordering medium rare, all came out well done. Other dishes were equally underwhelming and far below expectations for the prices being charged. The bill sealed the deal. A well vodka and water cost $13, which is excessive. On top of that, there was a 5% service charge added to the entire bill. This fee is not disclosed by staff and is not listed on the menu. It is only posted on random signs around the property. I tipped 10% assuming the service charge went to the server, though I highly doubt it does. We are locals and did not consider this a tourist spot until now. The food is bad, the service is worse, and the prices are wildly inflated for the quality being delivered. The surprise 5% service fee is just the icing on the cake. We will never return to The Getaway and will never recommend it. There are far better places in St. Pete. Avoid this place at all costs. If you want a real Florida restaurant with better food and real charm, drive one mile west and visit The Crab Shack. read more

The food options are endless, they all taste amazing, the drink options are even more endless and are even more amazing, and the service is top-notch. You're right on the water and the view is pretty nice. I believe there are actually 3-4 restaurant/bars here. I just tried this one. I just had a Mai Tai. It was pretty average, but definitely good. I sat at the bar and the bartender was cordial enough. So my one drink was $17 and they added a 5% service charge to the bill. I don't know what that is for, but didn't ask either. So out the door with tax (before tip), my one drink cost a whopping $19.10! I liked this place, but didn't think it was worth the price I paid. But that's me...it might suit you perfectly. The setup is a bit different since you don't have a server (you order at a kiosk and give them your table number) but the food came out fast and the staff was super friendly. Regarding drinks: I got a margarita, which was just okay, but after trying my friend's piña colada, I kinda wished I had ordered that instead. Food was decent overall shrimp tostadas had plenty of shrimp but were a little too acidic for my taste. On the other hand, the tuna tataki and the wings were really good! Let me first start by saying, the ambiance of the Bay View and seating is amazing. It was an absolutely beautiful day when we went, and was very busy. We waited probably closer to an hour to get a table for two. We walked along the piers and glared at the boats and we actually did see two manatees in the water go underneath the pier. That was kind of exciting. The food was very good and the people we dealt with were nice. My issue with the restaurant is the cost especially with no server. Two Bloody Marys were $28 before any tip. When we finally got sat, we're told use the QR code to see the menu and then you go to a cabana to order. So they have food runners and bar runners but not actual servers. I was a little put off by that. So there's no getting water refills while you're eating or anything like that. Then our food was served to us with no silverware and the taco dish came with rice. Whatever, I wasn't really concerned about the rice. What a beautiful place right on the water, you can't ask for better views! When visiting Tampa, I went here for brunch on my birthday. I'm so happy with our experience! I ordered the crab cakes on sourdough and they may have been some of the best crab cakes I ever had. The potatoes were crisp and seasoned super well. We discovered the Getaway almost by mistake. The atmosphere reminds me a lot of a favorite restaurant in Jupiter, FL. It's very tropical and casual. We had brunch and the food was surprisingly good. The service was good but not great. I think most customers prefer to linger a bit so the staff isn't in a hurry to get people out. And with the atmosphere there it works. Be careful of the pricing listed on the menu, especially with drinks. We were offered different sizes of their specialty drinks and the sizes and prices didn't seem to match the menu. Also, they required a credit card when our drink order was placed even though we were there for a meal. I've never seen that before. But maybe they have had some walkouts previously.
