We always try to stop at a Cracker Barrel on our drive to the Midwest. This one is conveniently located off I-80. New menu (don't know if all the locations have a new menu) so lots to choose from. Decent size portions. My daughter ordered one of the new items on the menu Strawberry Stuffed Cheesecake Pancakes which came with eggs and bacon. She was happily full. Service was friendly and efficient. Plenty of parking available. Surprisingly, on this Sunday night there was little wait (usually a wait on Sunday at other Cracker Barrels we've been to). read more

The food is amazing, always has been. The service was pretty good too considering the amount of people there. Dominiq was our server and she was very friendly & excited to be there. However, the issue lies with the arrangement of tables. Cracker Barrel now has the middle of the room with 3 tables beside each other, and we got the one in the middle. First of all, the server, Katie, was wonderful. She was very attentive and asked questions to make sure she u see stops what u wanted. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. I ordered the meatloaf, carrots and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. When the meatloaf came out, is looked like it was burnt and had been sitting under the heat lamp too long. It was a huge thick piece of meat and I knew I couldn't eat it. The server asked if there was another piece of meatloaf and was told no, they all looked like that. I said I'd order something else. I ordered the cornmeal encrusted catfish and asked if I could have 1 filet instead of two because I've ordered that at other Cracker Barrel restaurants but she was told they don't have 2 piece anymore unless you order the catfish breakfast. And it doesn't come with mashed potatoes as a side, inky two eggs. Overall, it took 30 minutes to correct the order. I'll start with the positives. Our server was accommodating, attentive and professional. The coffee was very good. That's that. Unfortunately, the meal itself was very disappointing. My son and I both ordered Mom's Breakfast. The eggs were served cold. The bacon advertised as "thick cut" was actually thin. The freshly baked sour dough bread was very ordinary and tasted like it was purchased from a super market. Plus, my son found a long black hair in his eggs. No extra charge! We had a pleasant time on our recent visit while traveling home from Cedar Point. The location was close enough to the turnpike to be an easy stop between Sandusky and Pittsburgh. Our service was great. The waitress was kind and efficient. We loved the store in the front. It's such a nice atmosphere and made the short wait for a table easier. We went here, at the Austintown, Ohio location specifically because my husband wanted a fried fish dinner on 02/20/26. It was getting late and we were tired. Our waitress, Taylor, was amazing, but it doesn't make up for the fact they burned the last batch of haddock and so my husband opted to change his order to the catfish. Then the catfish was served to my husband as grossly undercooked. As we were waiting for the third batch of fish, my husband was left with only his sides, while my son and I were sitting there eating in front of him. By the time they brought out the fresh fully cooked fish I opted to give him half of my chicken so my husband was not left to sit there hungry watching us eat. Had I not done that his sides would have been sitting to get cold while waiting for the fish. We did not complain. We were very understanding. We had fun goofing off with the waitress as her and I shared lovely conversation. I told her I grew up with a mom who was a waitress, as did she, and how we appreciate how hard they work. That being said when it was all said and done, They did not take anything off our check. Meanwhile the restaurant had cleared with barely anyone there as it got late and one other waitress was moving chairs and sweeping which echoed making terribly loud noise so as not to be able to hear each other even talk to one another. When we asked our waitress to have her wait to do that until we leave multiple other waitresses purposefully came out with brooms and dust pans and started sweeping and moving chairs at the table right next to us. We were still trying to talk with our waitress in friendly conversation while this was going on. She was so embarrassed by her coworkers behavior by the look on her face, as it was very obvious this was being done to purposely offend us. We ignored the obvious ignorant behavior but I truthfully really wanted to come unglued. By the time his fish was done correctly he had eaten half my chicken and his sides so we opted to take his fish to go. Our waitress was so apologetic but it doesn't change the fact this was a gross neglect on behalf of the restaurant and the other staff as a whole. We go to Cracker Barrel frequently, especially in our travels so it would be a lie to say we will not return. But I will say that I will do my best to not be frequenting the one in my home town if it can be avoided moving forward. Bob Evans is right down the street from it and they have much better customer appreciation in my personal experience. We came in as a party of 8. So yes I understand that we would have to wait. During that time multiple tables were being seated in groups from 2-6. The bathrooms were also a mess with toilet paper all over the floor in the stalls. We waited over an hour to be seated. By the time got seated, drink order was taken right away. We received our drinks within 10 minutes. In regards to food, we had waited an additional hour before we had to ask for bread. Which came out in 5 or so minutes. Following this we waited another 35-40 minutes for our meal to arrive. The chicken was rubbery and the chicken and dumplings was mainly dumplings. The breakfast parts of others meals were decent. Even with getting the checks it took some time. When paying it took an additional ten minutes to pay. I would not have imagined that we would be there for over 3 hours. I remember back when it used to be a treat to eat at Cracker Barre, not anymore. First cup of coffee was cold, waitress commented when pouring our second that this one was hot and fresh because she dumped the old and made fresh. Should have done that before the first cup. Our chicken tenders were cold...not even lukewarm. Hash brown casserole, used to be my fav, tasted like chalk. I salted my biscuit to give it any amount of flavor. My husband and I were both so disappointed and have decided that was the last time we would eat here. We've never been to another location to compare if it is just the Austintown location or all of them. There is too much competition to walk away dissatisfied. And yes, I agree with one of the other reviews...the restrooms are always dirty and smell of urine. read more

I will start by saying "thank you Ray" you were our server tonight, outstanding service, friendly, attentive and very caring with grandma and our kids. Plain and simple it is because of employees like Ray and the consistent food quality that we love Cracker Barrel. We had a table for 6, i ordered the roast beef with broccoli and corn, homey glazed chicken tenders with baked potato, fried catfish, we had order the fried chicken special but unfortunately they ran out of it. Also had the chicken pot pie and the sirloin with garlic butter and veggies. It was a lot of food, we had left over biscuits and corn bread as we couldn't finish it. My wife had the 4 choice of veggie plate and all were not warm. I had a protein (which was warm) with three vegetables. All veggies were old/cold and the green beans had hair. We asked our waitress to bring over the manager and he never showed up. He suggested that she offer more green beans (from the same batch). I was asked on my way out how everything was I said horrible and proceeded to tell the young girl why and her response was I'm sorry . I told her it's not your fault it's managements for putting a waitress on the floor who is not ready. As soon as we arrived there was many open tables it was a bad snow storm out of all the tables in there they sat us right at the exit door where cold air was coming in. The waitress was very nice got our drinks we ordered and our cornbread never came our food arrived still no cornbread she said it will just be a few more minutes she forgot our sour cream and cocktail sauce we waited another 15 minutes for that she came with sour cream and said they're out of cocktail meanwhile our dinner got cold waiting never even ask if steaks were prepared ok. Our drinks we empty as well. I ask if she was new she said it was her first day. I have been a waitress for 40+ years and had my own restaurant I gave her a few pointers cause that was all uncalled for what manager puts someone on the floor who had no training or needs more training. By my own coras country experience, every Cracker Barrel is the same. The exact same look, feel, taste, layout, general store, restrooms, and service. And by yes, the store is always crowded and sometimes awkward to wait in, all the restrooms could always be a bit cleaner and more homey, but the food and service are always great. I was surprised to see that my favourite dish, the Sunday home style fried chicken is now available anyday. I worry that it'll lose its charm of just made open to the week, but it still tasted just as good. The lemonade at this location was not served in the chilled mug as usual, and it did taste maybe like the bottom of the batch, but still refreshing. The absolute standout from this on the way home journey, was the waitress. A big shout out to Moriah, because she was just so kind, very helpful, understanding with my non-native English speaking grandmother, fast, and always with a wide and bright smile. We order out every Friday from work there are 8 of us that order from local restaurants weekly. First of all, the online ordering would not let us schedule for today at all (on some computers) We had to order from our phones to make some of them work. A few people could not make it work so they just ordered asap. I called the restaurant to let them know the circumstances of what went on and I planned to pick up the eight orders together at noon, they said that would be fine. I gave her the 8 names of the orders for reference. I was told by one of our employees they would never order take out from there again because the last time the whole ordeal was horrendous the last time they went there for takeout . So, I was prepared and decided to go early to avoid any issues. I arrived at 11:25am to pick up the food knowing that it wouldn't be ready yet and planned to wait. I went to the cashier to check in and let her know I was there. It took from 11:35-11:55 to get all 8 names found and checked in- she struggled and kept telling me how she has never had so many carryout orders- I explained it was for my workplace. Once I got done checking in I had to wait by a shelf and was given two paper bags to bag up my orders. It was not 12p and the woman there assisted me with getting the orders off the shelf but were missing two orders. She told me to go put the first 6 in my car and come back so I did. I waited from 12p- 12:22pm for the last two orders to be done- which were all supposed to be done at 12. Knowing most of the other 6 orders had been sitting there since 11:35 when I first go to the cashier- because I saw them on the shelf. Finally, after 43 minutes I gathered all of the 8 orders with 2 showing up finally 22 minutes after they were scheduled to be ready. I asked to speak to a manager knowing that most of the food was now cold. He said sorry we were buys I don't know what to tell you. I said Well I have to go back to 7 other people and deliver cold food that they paid for and they are not going to be happy. He said I am not sure what I can do about that. I explained that when people order they have an expectation to not only get the food they order timely but to have it arrive at the correct temperature. He said well yeah I can go ask the other three managers that are working on the line about what we can do. He came back out with my last order and said there you go have a nice day. I told him this was truly unacceptable and if they cannot handle takeout orders they should somehow manage the system differently- the whole process was overwhelming and disappointing. I ensured him it was quite a saddening experience and unfortunately, we would not be able to return, and he said oh well I am sorry. So, I just wanted to let you know how the situation was handled and the fact that all of the food except one order arrived to my employees cold. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but this one is necessary. my husband and I went for dinner tonight and it was not a good experience. our waitress never so much as cracked a smile. it was so dark that most people had their phones out so that they could even read the menu, us included. both of our forks had dried crusty food on them. we never even got an "I'm sorry let me get you more". she just took them and walked away. I (usually) love the tartar sauce but the only flavor it had tonight was vinegar. My husband always gets two sides of dumplings and then brings most of the actual dinner home for later. the food was so bad tonight he couldn't even eat the dumplings. my husband spoke with the manager (after he paid because we didn't want our bill reduce, we just wanted to inform them). still not so much as an apology for anything. When returning to our table 15 minutes later (to take an order that will not arrive for another 30 minutes), after being pressed for answers, she finally updates us on the staffing issues. Server says hostess is responsible for keeping guests informed (make sure to ask when you put name in for a table, they're not advertising it). Terrible customer service. This was the MOST EXASPERATING visit I have EVER had at an business establishment! Tried to make a purchase but ended up having them void it out because the cashier was new and had no idea how to ring up the items I had and actually came up with two different totals trying to figure it out. By the time the lady that was "training her" came over we were both so frustrated I canceled the whole transaction and had to actually ask her to hand me my money back. I asked to speak to a manager and the "retail manager" came to our table and I explained what had happened. The manager, whom was very condescending and quite frankly VERY RUDE, stated that the cashier was new and had only been there a week. I explained to her I understood that and my problem wasn't with the new cashier it was the fact that a new employee was left alone to work solo and wasn't ready and because no one seemed to be able to undo what the new cashier had and give me a total I voided the whole order. The manager said that was ok that I didn't purchase my items and that she wasn't able to be on the floor with the new employee because she was in a meeting. So just beware if you stop at this restaurant, the manager has zero customer service skills and staff meetings are obviously more important than a sales and decent customer service. I will also be calling corporate and letting them know what a total break down in customer service there is at this location.! read more
