Same old time Cracker Barrel vibe here as in times past, as this location may not have undergone the same degree of redesign as some locations have recently received. We both had large traditional breakfasts (lots more choices on the revised menu!), and apart from biscuits being a bit dry, eggs, sausage, and pancakes were very tasty. Probably the cleanest restrooms I've seen in a Cracker Barrel, this was a welcome stop as we're heading west for the weekend. The country store attendant visited the men's room ahead of me, tidying up after he used the facilities himself and then washing his hands. Nice! The restaurant was mildly busy but not so much that we had to wait for a table. Rainbow trout for Mrs. K. with fried apples and carrots. Meatloaf for me with mac & cheese and green beans. A good mix that we shared between ourselves. The sweet tea was not too sweet. We enjoyed our meal! Normally, we'd be parking up and staying the night but it's only 4pm and there are a couple more hours of daylight driving. Upon entering this location you will find a menagerie of circus atmosphere - packed with touristy items in their waiting area/ gift shop. They have a great wait time notification system that texts your phone when your table is ready, that's the best part of this establishment! My main complaint is that the service is slow, they prices are on the high side... and all of the food looks and tastes like it came straight out of a Can. Canned beans, greens, canned gravy ! The service was pretty good, ambiance was typical for Cracker Barrel (which is a positive except for the confusion waiting for tables) but the food was horrendous. I ordered the NY Strip which is $18.49. I left about 3/4's of it as it was tough and cold and the "buttery garlic sauce" tasted like crap. The hash brown casserole, which was once a favorite, was nothing like I remembered. The eggs were fine. My wife had toast and eggs. She liked them both but had to ask for butter for her toast. Service was sloth like slow. Waited 45 minutes for the order to arrive after we ordered. She messed up 4 drink orders out of 4 taken. We had to ask for knives, never got spoons for grits or gravy and even had to beg for napkins and had to ask for refills constantly. I would not in good conscience ever recommend this place. It is the Simple Truth: They are simply slow. I don't think they even care about customer service to tell you the truth. Every time I have ordered something here for pickup, it was not ready. I even used the Cracker Barrel App to order something 2 hours in advance, and I came 5 minutes later than the App said it would be ready, -and it still wasn't ready. On one occasion, I picked up my order, and the cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt and I said "yes". She actually printed the receipt and "balled it up" like she was going to throw it away and put it in my hand. How disrespectful. I am so disappointed and disgusted with this Cracker Barrel, that I don't know what to do. If I wasn't so tired that night from working all day, I would have stepped to the side and asked for a manager. However, the food is good when I finally do get it. Another visit here, I ordered chicken and dumplings and was told they were out that. Then I said I wanted mashed potatoes and gravy. They told me "that they were out of that too". I have visited Cracker Barrel's hundreds of times across the country and never been told " we are out that" and "oh, we are out of that too". As of right now, I have been trying to place a to go order for just myself and I can't get them to answer the phone for "to go orders". This is just plain uncalled for. However, I keep giving them chances hoping customer service will get better because I don't have much of a choice here in Batesville, MS. Furthermore, they are out of paper towels in the bathroom (see picture). There is trash all over the floor. To top it off, they didn't put gravy on my mashed potatoes which I asked for. Don't order curbside, they'll have you waiting 25 minutes past the expected ready time just to bring you cold food. I can purchase cold food from a deli. I only ordered fast food because I wanted it hot. 25 minutes probably doesn't mean a lot to most people but today I woke up at 3:45am to prepare for a 9am flight, then flew from Houston to Memphis & then drove to water valley ms & worked & then drove to Batesville & checked in to my hotel. Manager Monica ? (she refused to give me her name even after asking for and getting my name). She knew I was going to report her inept customer service and poor communication skills. She should NOT be in any management role (and she would not bus tables in any restaurant I have worked with). She has equally inept managers (Xavier in particular) that illustrate the adage that the incompetent hire those that are even more incompetent. Ambiance is terrible, the lines are unclear, waiting times are undecipherable, the entire facility is crowded with junk, people hanging around waiting in largely nonexistent lines and unmanaged. Poor and slow service is largely due to poor management, a lack of sufficient (or sufficiently trained) staff (front of house to back of house as the doors between front and back we're constantly traffic jammed taking food back and forth between the front and back with servers looking for salad dressings, condiments and missing side orders, etc.) and a lack of understanding of the restaurant business. Did not meet the standards of a typical Cracker Barrel much less any exemplary ones. Food was ill prepared, poorly presented, overcooked and several items had been 86'd without letting the already overwhelmed servers and waitresses even know. Menu items were priced in a confusing and, in a couple of cases, duplicitous way leaving ticketed prices up to people and managers, ultimately, who stood to benefit from the errors. The only reason I can account for the people that currently "dine" (term used with tongue-in-cheek) at this facility can be attributed to 1) it being located on I55 at the only exit with a prominent "sit-down restaurant" franchise in the 200 miles or so between South Memphis and Jackson, MS and a large portion of the car tags in the parking lot are from out-of-state or out-of-county locations; 2) there is a dirth of "sit-down restaurant" franchises in the local community none of which advertise on the main highways intersecting the local city; and, 3) locals have few choices for family eating sit-down restaurants in the local community that do not have Mexican or Asian/Chinese based menus (of which there are a few good choices but which are largely unknown to anyone that is not local. The only way to deal with these issues is to 1) report such to the corporate office as they should want to protect their flag and their brand; 2) report it to Yelp and other such venues; and, 3) vote with your feet, i.e. DO NOT EAT THERE and, encourage those family, friends and social contacts who respect your opinions to NOT EAT THERE EITHER! My husband and I waited over 30 minutes for our food, and when we got it, the eggs and sausage were all over-cooked. We asked for over medium, but the yolk was hard on all 4 eggs. Our waitress, Kierra, was sympathetic and had our food re-cooked. Then, we didn't get our biscuits until 10 minutes after our meal started, and they were so hard that they were inedible. This Cracker Barrel is by far the worst we have eaten at. I need to say I almost didn't stop after reading the reviews. I'm glad I did, as the next one was an hour down the road. We were there for lunch Friday. They were very busy. The food was hot, tasty, and our server Kelly was the best! On a side note, for future guests, please take your screaming children outside when they are upset, and use headphones when watching television on your phone. All of our food was subpar. The waitress, Julie, was wonderful! The grits were terrible and seemed to have been sitting for a long time. Patron beware: The hostess attempted to seat us next to a filthy table when the restaurant was nearly empty. After requesting an alternate table, we were treated like e had the plague. The hostess proceeded to "point" us out to several other workers; our sever arrived 10 minutes later; it then took 15 minutes to get a glass of water and for our orders to be taken; all other patrons coming in after us were served; we were only served after I spoke to the manager...35 minutes after ordering...the food clearly has been sitting awhile ...mind you, there were only 2 tables being served when we arrived and 7 tables after we arrived (6 of which were served prior to us). Came in early and very small crowd. The restaurant was freezing and did not get our biscuits till after our food. One child didn't get her side, husband and I didn't get any of our sides.
