    Biscuits and gravy. Family style?
    Beth S.

I hadn't been here for a while. The menu is new and things are done a bit differently. There were just three of us. We were seated immediately at a six-person table. Our server Brandon was good. I got the Old Timer's. The egg was good. The hashbrown casserole was delicious. I asked for sausage. I was given bacon. Meh. I didn't eat the bacon. Both my meal and a tablemate's meal came with biscuits and gravy. So, it was served family style?? That's new. I don't like it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were not seated next to each other. The table was handed a bowl of gravy (without a serving spoon) and a basket of biscuits.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We both had to reeeeaaaaach for the biscuits. Then use our coffee spoons to serve up the gravy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Meh!!! Luckily, I am married to said tablemate. So when I served myself gravy with the coffee spoon I had put in my mouth after stirring in creamer, he only slightly cringed. I didn't love this for us. But hey. Hashbrown casserole? On point, as always.

Cracker in Southaven, MS is no different. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Good food, excellent service and the ambiance always fascinated me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waiter was very nice and efficient.

Good night from the Cracker Barrel. Yes, Cracker Barrel tolerates RVers using their parking lot for an overnight stay. The intention is that you would please purchase a meal in return for their kindness but it's not a requirement. This evening, I'd already had dinner and then I departed well before they opened so there wasn't an opportunity on this visit. Inside, the country store was clean and well stocked with merchandise. Always the local sports team sweatshirts and such. Board games and clothing and seasonal decor items. I picked up some "old fashioned" candy to bring home. The restrooms were in good condition and the parking lot was clean of litter. Trash bins on the "porch" were emptied. [Review 21121 overall - 102 in Mississippi - 84 of 2024.]

Sadly my order is always late when I order to-go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The store is of course set up beautifully, but I can bet the kitchen is over packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It's at least 30 minutes late every time. Food was 5/10 and speed of service is horrible. Customer service isn't much better honestly. French toast was cold, chicken was warm.

If you have been to a CB then you know what they have. This one doesn't have great reviews. I would agree. The people were nice but the food was mid level. My potatoes were cold and the country fried steak was scorching hot. I wish they could have met in the middle.

    Dried out Baked Lemon Chicken

I ordered the baked lemon chicken and the chicken was so dry it was stuck to the bone. Also order a take home plate and didn't realize it until I got it home but the sticker on it read "used within 2 days of purchase", it was already on its 2nd day according to the date on it and I ordered for my lunch the next day.

As always, we had a great visit. Even with the place busy and the table next to us was getting irritated and rude with the waitress, she handled it very well and we had no problems with her service. The food is yummy. I hope one day they would clean the whole place, dust all the Knick knacks hanging and freshen up the paint though.

I got meatloaf, Mac and cheese and turnip greens. It was not good this time. The meatloaf was burnt and dry.

I had the three piece dark chicken with the sweet potatoes casserole and mash potatoes with gravy. The mashed potatoes had quite a few lumps and everything kind of gave a powdery taste (gravy, casserole, and mashed potatoes). When I say powdery... I'm saying that it just wasn't giving "homemade". It's not intolerable but it's not what you look for when you go to a soulfood restaurant. I also wasn't a fan of the wait. We have some made to order items so it was understood about the 20 minute wait, but we didn't get our food until almost an hour after paying. The extra time waiting seemed to be due to fried green tomatoes not being made in tandem with the fried chicken. As a result, everything was luke warm by the time we got the food. It's truly sad because the flavor is definitely there. The texture, the powdery residual taste and the wait time leaves me at this place being a one time experience at the least and a, "if I had to" at the most.

The catfish is made to order, was perfectly crispy and well seasoned. Definitely top 3 catfish meals for me in the area. The mac and cheese was some of the best I have had. It was creamy and savory, it wasn't too fatty and had a firm texture. It was definitely the highlight of the meal. The green beans had a bit of a mushy texture but I really enjoyed regular green beans. The meal comes with a side or cornbread which was filling , fluffy and sweet. Fantastic soul food for me. The banana pudding was also delicious. You can also actually taste banana not just sugar. The people working there were honestly so kind and chill. They knew what to recommend and added to the dining experience. My only criticisms come with how some of the food is prepared for example the green been texture being on the mushy side is likely due to it being presented similarly to a buffet. I was also unable to have a whisky due to the bar being closed however it was 2pm on a weekday. Overall great experience

I got the chicken lunch plate with 2 side and cornbread. The chicken was seasoned well but wayyy to big for my liking. I do not like huge hormone injected wings. And personally the side I got the candied yams and corn didn't have enough flavor. But it was eatable. I was expecting a home coooked meal type of vibe but this not what my granny or even my food taste like. But again it was just okay. Good for the price. The service was really good and quick. I may be back to try other items.

It's a meat and three kind of place with many options of proteins and veggies to choose from. It's a larger and more diverse menu than you will find at any place that is quick like this. It's way nicer inside than any other fast food place, that's for sure. Great color scheme. Floor plan flows well. You can see where to access the bevs, condiments, and rest rooms easily. I personally like these the best in this order: Fried Fish Baked Wings Fried Pork Chop Pinto Beans Corn Cornbread Chicken & Dumplings Sweet Potato Casserole Mac & Cheese Mashed Potatoes They also have: Baked fish and chicken Greens Potato Salad Black Eye Peas Fried Okra Broccoli Casserole Fries Fried Broccoli and many more... Food flies out of the kitchen fast, I am not sure how they do it and keep it all so fresh! The people are super friendly and most helpful.
