Say whatever you want about Cracker Barrel, but their ads on TV tempt the tastebuds! We drove through Horseheads Village in upstate New York and saw a Cracker Barrel and decided to try their special cream cheese stuffed pancakes with fresh strawberries and maple stawberry sauce! Spot on delicious, not overly sweet! We also tried the Shepherd's pie with hash brown crust and grilled cheese. Wow! Chunks of tender pot roast and vegetables in a hot skillet topped with a crispy hash brown crust and cheddar cheese and sour cream garnish. Winner! But truly noteworthy was our server, Tyler, who went out of his way to answer our many questions as we were tourists in unfamiliar territory. Although we'd stopped by a different Cracker Barrel on the way to New York City, we had to stop again on the way back because we wanted to eat from the regular menu (and not just the breakfast menu). This time we showed up right around noon and the place was quite packed, but we managed to snag a table within minutes of arriving. I already knew exactly what I wanted, the U.S. Farm-Raised Fried Catfish - 1 Piece ("One spicy grilled fillet plus choice of two Country Sides. Served with hand-rolled Buttermilk Biscuits or Corn Muffins"), and I got that with Fried Okra and Hashbrown Casserole. It took a while for the food to arrive but when it finally did, it was so worth the wait. The catfish was especially delicious, as it arrived to the table hot and perfectly cooked. Please understand. Most of my Cracker Barrel reviews are the same. The restaurants are all alike the difference is what I am ordering and staffing. Cracker Barrel is just the All American go-to place when I am traveling. I mean, how can you go wrong here. No matter where I am it seems like the people are all the same. We came here for breakfast while traveling in to Buffalo from Corning. From the second you're on the porch of CB until you sit down, it's like a deja vous from one restaurant to another. As usual, we were greeted by a very pleasant hostess and followed up by our extremely pleasant and efficient server, Kristin. My wife and myself had a fabulous breakfast consisting of terrific Pecan pancakes for me and eggs with thick cut bacon and scrambled eggs for my wife. The food is always fresh-tasty and always come to the table hot. We never had to wait too long once the order is given. They follow a great model here and should be proud of all their successes. The team works very well together. This place never disappoints you no matter what you order. All delicious and huge portions of food. A special shout out on the pancakes I had this trip. First of all our server was great. The food however was just plain WTF. Our salads were huge which isn't a bad thing but it was mostly cheese and bacon. Just eh. My husband got the crispy fried chicken. The pieces were small.... And while we know there is some grease involved, we weren't expecting a lake of grease on the chicken. Mac and cheese was dry but was the best part of the meal. I ordered Chx and dumplings. These were the biggest dumplings I've ever seen. I got 2 tiny pieces of chicken tenderloin in it and it was so salty I couldn't even eat half of them. It's been 20 minutes and I'm still thirsty. We drove an hour on a Thursday just so we could get the delicious turkey dinner they have on Thursdays. W got there at 345 thinking we would have an early dinner before the dinner rush. I was very excited to go to Cracker Barrel. I hadn't been there in years & had good memories of the place. The interior was the same as always. We went on Black Friday & the place was close to empty, that should have been a sign. I ordered the chicken & dumplings. It was a congealed mess. I ate about 2 bites. My husband ordered the catfish & he said it was super fishy. My daughter tried a bite of his & she said it tasted like a fish tank smells. My daughter had shrimp & she ended up getting sick & we had to head home early. Oh, also I had mashed potatoes & they were set up & broke off in chunks. Not edible! They are offering indoor dining at about half capacity during the pandemic. They have done a great job socially distancing and the service still remains excellent. The blueberry pancakes were deelish and the Old Country Fried Steak was amazing with loaded hash browns. read more

It's been four years since my last Cracker Barrel review, but I've been there on and off, 2-4 times a year. I still enjoy the food very much. Took my 18-year old grandson for lunch and he ordered a huge breakfast off the b'fast menu: steak, hash browns, couple of scrambled eggs, grits, gravy, baking powder biscuits. He gobbled down almost everything. That's a teenager for you! I had a Chicken Pot Pie--huge and tasty. Took half home along with one biscuit and one corn bread muffin. Added some veggies to my leftovers and had them for supper. Only thing that made me uncomfortable was that our server and a few others did not wear masks. In other restaurants I've been to in the past 1-1/2 years, servers have always worn masks and I truly appreciated it. Otherwise, our server took very good care of us! Bathroom seemed clean. Lots of wonderful goodies in the shop, but didn't linger today. In this day and age of COVID-19, don't want to be indoors in a crowded situation such as Cracker Barrel's shopping area. Hopefully that situation will change soon. I like to get a head start on Christmas shopping and CB is a favorite shopping place. read more

The food at this Cracker Barrel was mediocre to poor. It just didn't take fresh. The ham was dry, the chicken was overly battered and tasted like it was cooked yesterday. I first ordered pork chops and had to return them because they were cold and looked like they were cooked hours before and heated in the microwave. I ordered green beans which had good flavor and the biscuit was good. I've visited CB's all over the country and this one was the worst. The server's apron was filthy.
