Whiskey braised short rib sliders
Dan D.

I felt glad I stopped at Creola. The bartender was on fire. After his first old fashioned - Woodford Reserve, sweet and smooth - I had to go for a second. I let him pick the spirit, and he went with Michter's rye. Spicy, sweet forward, and he used a torch to express the orange oil. Really excellent. The food was not on the same level, unfortunately. My short rib sliders had delicious burnt ends for texture, but looked basic and not as much aioli as I hoped for. I went back for truffle fries, but they were a bit too crisp, and lacked the starchy fluffy goodness that I look forward to. But all in all, a great vibe and great drinks mean I'd be happy to return.

Nice location in the Commons area. We were a group of 6 and got an outside table - great for people watching. Jose was fantastic and great sense of humor - had good recommendations. The creole take of some staple dishes added some good heat to the calamari and Parmesan fries. I had the crab andouille sausage Mac & Cheese - super rich with some nice heat. The portions are huge - can definitely share entrees. The Chicken and Waffles came with a hot honey maple sauce - good stuff. Things went sideways with the other choices - the ribeye was more rare than medium - had to ask for it cooked more. The broiled grouper was 'fishy' smelling. Jose was gracious and took that off the bill. Overall, great location for people watching, cool bar area inside. Just might have been an off night for the kitchen staff.

Came on a Tuesday around 6pm. We were seated immediately! Our server was the best, he heard I was hungry and kept bringing bread as we waited for our appetizer. It's the little thoughtful things that make service great :) Crab cakes and lobster were delicious. I had a taste of the Chilean sea bass and it melted in my mouth.

This was amazing. I was missing what this place used to be but this new and improved restaurant is amazing! The food has a southern twist to it, which is delicious. The service was good, a bit slower to coming back and helping us towards the end of our meal but he was very friendly and when we had inquiries he was able to answer quickly and easily. With great recommendations too! The ambiance is great, the inside is nice, and its clean. There is outside seating as well which we opted for. The food is pricey so if you go expect to spend a good pretty penny. However, everything was so delicious it was worth it and 10/10 would go back!

You shouldn't leave hungry! We went here for our anniversary and wanted something nice. Glad we picked Creola. Justin was our waiter and he was great. He took time to explain the menu and made recommendations. Old Fashion was on point. I got the Rye drink and it was great. Appetizer of burnt end nachos was incredible. Steaks were delicious. Building and decor was classic, dark wood, and classy.

We decided to go here for a date night we got there around 5:30 and got seats at the bar. The bartender guy was excellent he was working so hard and slinging drinks getting food orders in! There should definitely be two bartender behind the bar especially for Friday/Saturday night's. We had the lobster and crawfish pot pie wow was it perfect! Delicious flavored plenty of filling absolutely loved it! The Rainbow trout was delicious, the fish was so tender and delicately cooked. We loved the Mississippi mud pie cheesecake, perfect meal!

Such a great spot for a cozy comfort foods. We ordered the steak, fish, popovers, meatloaf cupcakes, mac and cheese, corn, mashed potatoes, and the peach blackberry cobbler. Everything was super tasty. I especially loved the presentation of the meatloaf cupcakes. The mac and cheese was particularly good. Creamy, cheesy, and warm. Staff was friendly, and I would definitely return here!

The pictures alone don't do this place justice. I've heard nothing but great things and had to give it a try. They are located in downtown Ithaca on the Commons in the perfect location. We had the option to sit inside or outside and we sat outside. Other than a few dogs barking at each other and the regular street traffic it was a nice vibe and not too loud. The host and our waiter were so friendly and welcoming. They have a fun themed cocktail menu, beers and wines. I loved that they could make a mocktail for my friend because she doesn't drink. They made the Gin Blossom as a mocktail and it was very refreshing. I got a glass of Pinot Noir and my other friend with us ordered the Born on the Bayou and it hit the spot. We ordered the Calamari and Crabcakes for our appetizers and they were both so good. The calamari was a healthy serving and good to share. The crab cakes came as an order of 3 which was enough for us each to have one. I would've put in 2 orders if we didn't get the calamari because they were delicious. Since it's a steakhouse we had to try their steaks and they did not disappoint. They had multiple options for the cuts of steaks, add-ons, and sauces to have on the side. The sides are prepared family style so we each ordered something to share. There was definitely enough for the 3 of us to get a couple of servings and had some to take home. We ordered the truffle fries, roasted Brussels and peaches, and cream style sweet corn. There was a couple sitting next to us that were raving about the sweet corn so we had to get it and they were not kidding about how good it is. Everyone's steaks were cooked perfectly and were so flavorful without the sauces. I got the Smokey Red Chimichurri and it took the flavors to another level. Some how after all that we saved room for dessert and ordered 3 different options so we could try each others. Each one had its own unique flavor and had us wanting more. I ordered the Chicory Coffee Creme Brulee and it was my favorite part of the meal. It passed the "crack test" and had the perfect amount of coffee flavor. The best part of the menu is each food was labeled for vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, dairy free, nut allergy, and upon request depending on the ingredients and item. This was an amazing dining experience and I can't wait to come back!

10/10 tonight was our first time trying Creola everything was amazing from atmosphere to server down to the food! The sea bass was beyond amazing not over cooked! Cooked to perfection! He enjoyed his steak as well . All the sides were amazing . I absolutely can't wait to come back and I will highly recommend Creola to anyone interested! Thank you for an amazing dinner tonight .

Man this place was just awesome! The entire place itself is just cool the old bar and wood work the neat ambiance and the amazing food. They have a totally unique menu of tasty stuff to try and everything was delicious. We were able to try their cheddar popovers with marinara and a Mac and cheese to start. Both were absolutely delicious! I got the Cajun jambalaya speghetti with a Cajun pork chop and again what a meal. It was totally unique perfectly spicy and flavorful. I've never had anything like it! Prices were pretty expensive but as a once in a while thing it's well worth the visit! Service was great and overall we had a great time.

Must go!! The food was amazing!! The portions are huge -- barely finished it. The service was fast (but we are Tuesday night). The ambience is great.

I was looking for dinner spots in/around Ithaca on a Monday night, because a group of 4 of us were going to meet in town. There seem to be very few restaurants available in Ithaca for a nice dinner on a Monday night... but I'd heard good things about Creola. I made reservations (through Yelp), and we were set. Creola is a fairly new restaurant in town that focuses on steak and seafood options with a Cajun flair - and also happens to be the sister restaurant to Mix Kitchen & Bar. Similarly to Mix, the menu is creative and the drinks are deliciously crafted. While none of us in the dinner group ever really imbibe, we couldn't resist each getting an option from the drink menu. Myself? I enjoyed a refreshing "Dixie Queen", described as a combination of "Hendrix Gin, Charred Watermelon Juice, Mint, Lemon, Palm Sugar Syrup, and Soda." Our server was also gracious enough to help my mother (who is not the most decisive) figure out which cocktail selection she would enjoy the most. The decision was a Tequila Mockingbird, made with "Espolon Blanco, Chambord, Grand Mariner, Fresh Key Lime, and Fee Foam". As for the dinner itself, we each ordered different entree options. My "Mardi Grad Meatloaf Cupcakes" were a delightful combination o f some of my favorite ingredients. Described as "Fire Roasted Tomato Glaze, Truffled Duchess Potato, Trumpet Royale Mushrooms, Candied Baby Carrots, Creole Madeira Demi Glaze," all I can say is mmmm... potatoes and mushrooms. Of course, everything from the Chilean Sea Bass (my mother's selection) to the "Southern Charm Burger" (my bff's choice, described as "Griddled Angus Beef Patties, Cherrywood Bacon, Buttermilk Onion Ring, Pepper Jack Cheese, Tomato Jam, Dill Pickle Remoulade, Seeded Brioche served with French Fries") left us with our cravings appeased and tummies full. Not too full, of course, for dessert... 3 "Chicory Coffee Crème Brulee" selections and 1 of the "Mississippi Mud Pie Cheesecake" slices. Thumbs up all around for dessert. The only thing that would have improved the experience? Someone with a cart or something to get me back to my car. Seriously though, the ambiance is wonderful, service is attentive, and the menu is a great demonstration of a chef working to curate selections for a creative menu focused on quality product. TL;DR Great to have a place like this available in Ithaca - and bonus points for being open for dinner on Mondays! Will definitely visit again.

35-day aged ribeye
Roger C.

Finally an awesome steakhouse in Ithaca. I came in their 3rd week after opening and I had the best steaks and sides ever! Veronica was extremely pleasant and made our night very special. We ordered the 35-day aged ribeye and 2 NY sirloins. All were delicious. The herb bacon butter is a fantastic addition. The sides: carrots, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese and asparagus were all excellent and if I had to pick one, go with the mac-n-cheese.

The menu itself is short and focused, while the interior of the restaurant features wallpaper with anthropomorphic animals, and large windows. I opted for the Burger, and my wife the Salmon. We also ordered the grilled dates and collard greens. I also decided on a Ginger Beer. They serve Goslings (since 1806), with all 47 grams of sugar, over ice and a lime. Highly recommended on the ginger beer flavor scale. The Burger came with a massive amount of their duck-fat fried fries, certainly more potato than burger. I also liked the burger with the added bacon. But my wife's Salmon was even tastier. It featured a nice hunk of fish, skin-on, crispy, and not some half-or-quarter fillet that other places might serve. Plus, it comes over a bed of green peas and canneli beans and green asparagus sauce on the bottom, and a small bed of frisée on top. The combination with the lemon cream leads to very satisfying bites. The grilled dates wrapped in bacon, with goat cheese, Marcona almonds, and honey were presented as a drumstick. The collard greens were nice, though on the saltier side. Seating here can be had inside or out. The bathrooms are located in the hallway next to the restaurant.

I was not a fan of the salmon mousse... far too salty and I wish it was paired with crisped bread or at least something other than Ritz crackers. I did, however, enjoy the presentation and taste of the macaroni au gratin. The square shape is very unique and I liked the cheese sauce. The lamb w gnocchi was also quite good. Pillowy and soft. The lamb was cooked well. Overall, I would maybe return. I enjoyed the macaroni au gratin as well as the lamb w gnocchi!

I've had brunch, lunch, and dinner at MIX, and all with varying levels of enjoyment. My recent…read morebrunch experience included ordering a Where the West Begins omelette, which includes "Braised short rib, butternut squash, red onion jam, spinach, smoked gouda". I wasn't sure how to feel about butternut squash with everything else (I'm not necessarily a huge squash fan - but I'm trying to learn to enjoy it), but the omelette was decent... it's the other side on my plate that looked less than appetizing. The biscuit was still covered in flour (and who wants to bite down on a clump of flour?), the cheddar hashbrown casserole lacked in flavor, and the brown sugar cinnamon oatmeal just... wasn't doin' it for me. Other recent experiences have been similar... there's usually one item on the plate that's flavorful or imventive (sometimes a main dish, sometimes a side), and the other parts of the plate are lacking. In reality, I think MIX is suffering a bit from rising food costs and inconsistency in their service and offerings. They've also changed the style of their menu from the original tapas-style to now being more typical entree options. Again... they've lost some of their innovative, experimental approach. In terms of ambiance, it really depends. I've been here for a work event and, because of the number of people, it was SO LOUD... they had also done a buffet offering for the event. As you can imagine, the food from the buffet was lacking, but that's often what happens when you're more mass producing your food (and it's left in a chafing dish, trying to be kept warm). On the other hand, I've been here for a dinner on a random night and was able to enjoy one of their Thai noodle bowls (and split some other apps with friends). The reality is that experiences at MIX are... well... a mix. Whether service, menu offerings, etc., I've found MIX's recent inconsistencies to be a disappointment. Will probably only visit in the future if it's suggested by others.

We decided on Bickering Twins, because can you go wrong with Mexican food and a margarita? Luckily we had no wait on a Friday evening at about 7pm. I was worried that since not many people were there it was a bad sign, but that was not the case. We were seated at a nice, sort of private high-top table near the door, which made it feel like we had privacy and our own little space. We ordered drinks, and I wimped out and went with a paloma instead of the tamarind maragarita. The paloma was great, but I'm still wondering whether I shouldn't have risked it. Our group of three decided to get chips & salsa (because why wouldn't you), and then we ordered three dishes to share. Our choices were as follows: Peruvian Ceviche, Birria Quesadilla and Chicken Enchiladas. First of all, the fact that they had ceviche and it was good just hands down made my day. It was good - I only wish there had been some corn kernels served with it. The birria quesadillas weren't what we had expected, but they were very flavorful and the juice was tasty. I Really enjoyed the enchiladas for the mix of flavors and textures. There were so many vegetables with our dishes and the sides of rice and beans were more than filling. My only complaint is that the rice was too much of a yellow rice - I prefer a white rice, but that's just personal preference. Even though we kept the menu at the table anticipating that we would want to order more, we ultimately were stuffed and the portions (while they looked small were actually quite filling!). Jose our server was kind and friendly. I would definitely come back as there are a variety of other meals I would try, and they have flights of Mezcal and Tequila that looked tempting. After a long hard day of hiking, this fabulous meal made the day. We returned to our hotel with sore legs, but our bellies full!
