Ate here with my family. This restaurant did not have the same typical service that most other of Cracker Barrel restaurants have had that I have visited in the pasts. The looks of the restaurant seemed to have that same old time look but the waitresses felt like they were rushing us a bit. Cracker Barrel's always hire great servers and the space is always fun to look at. I love the big fireplaces in the winter time, too. I'm really disappointed they took chicken livers off their menu. read more

One thing you can always count on with Cracker Barrel is good, hot food. Whether it's a breakfast item or a lunch/dinner menu item it's going to be good. I highly recommend the Hashbrown Casserole Tots with ranch! Our only complaint is the waitress was swamped with multiple tables and it took some time to get service, but that's alright. I used to go to Cracker Barrel all the time. When I traveled O would stop and eat. The food was good. Then I went to the Cracker Barrel in Madisonville and thought the quality of their food really went down and the portions were much smaller. I hadn't been in a while so I figured I'd try one more time. Well, tonight I had the NY steak and it was all grizzle. I couldn't eat it. when the server asked if I wanted a box I said no thanks, but to tell you the truth the steak was all grizzle. She gave me a look like you poor thing and said , ohhh, with that face of, that's too bad. Then I went to pay and told, who I assumed was the manage. I proceeded to tell him but he just said, do you want your receipt? I said yes. Looks like that was my last time for this Cracker Barrel. If you're in Madisonville, don't go to Cracker Barrel!!!! We have come to this location a few times now, and had different waitresses each time. Each time it's been at least an hour wait or more. I understand things happen and this is a sit down restaurant. However, when two people sit down and order their food with their drinks it should not take over an hour to receive our food. The waitresses have been good each time. Oh my, I hadn't been to Cracker Barrel in years but while recently visiting Madisonville I decided to try it for dinner. I should have listened to those who warned me that it is no longer the same as it was years ago. The turnip greens had some type of stringy meat and smelled terrible. I suggested to the waitress that the taste was unusual but she seemed unconcerned. I then suggested to the cashier that the cook should be asked to verify the greens were ok to eat, again the reply was a blank look. I expect the staff is used to the complaints, yet customers continue to come in. Perhaps food poisoning is of no concern to this establishment. Yuk! Just Yuk! read more

We were given a gift card so thought we'd dine out. We have lived in Madisonville for almost 3 years .....and coming from Los Angeles we've had to re-think our local dining out and be fair that the town is not a thriving foodie city. That being said..... I do expect taste. I ordered the fried chicken dinner. The batter was so thick, so crunchy and so tasteless. Green beans were right out of the can. I half expected a bit of southern flair would be added, but nope....out of the can. Corn bread. Dry and again tasteless. The hash brown casserole was doable, but far from a good side. My husband ordered pancakes. OMG......they were so thin you could almost see through them. For such thin cakes, you would think at least 3, but no.....there were only 2. I will say the staff was kind and courteous. But that is not enough to make me go back. read more

We were greeted and seated within a minute. We were seated in the middle section towards the window and then we sat there for 10 minutes waiting to have our drink order taken. It was 5 pm so it was busy but not overly crowded. 2 other couples sat down on each side of us and had drinks with in a couple minutes. 2 managers of some sort were leaning on the wall towards the front that made eye contact with us but evidently were too involved in conversation to watch or worry about our service. one had a beard and the other was heavy set. We decided to leave and stopped to tell the person who seated us and her name was Starr. She immediately Apologized and said that she would be our waitress. she did a great job waiting on our table and attending to her other duties. I wouldn't be writing this review, but this exact same thing happened the last time we were in this Cracker Barrel. Starr saved us from having to go somewhere else to eat and to make the experience a pleasant one. Kudos to her for taking it upon herself to make sure that we had good service. Our first food stop during our trip to Madisonville! I've been to another Cracker Barrel location, but it's been quite awhile so I was excited to enjoy a breakfast there. We were greeted promptly and welcomed warmly as we were sat at one of the many tables. There's so much to look at in the eating area (loads of things on the walls). Our server, on the other hand, flipped between being kind and accommodating and seeming annoyed with us. I'm not sure how many tables she had in her section, but I definitely tried to stray away from asking for any additional items once she brought our food. To be honest, how a server acts shapes my dining experience quite a bit; but I'm hopeful she was just having a rough day. My biscuits and gravy were very yummy, as was my orange juice. Both left me with a bit of a stomach ache for the rest of the day, though. If I returned, I'd likely avoid both just in case. The store portion offers fair prices and adorable trinkets and other items. We browsed a bit after our meal and I wanted to bring quite a few items home with me! Not sure if I'd return, since we aren't from the area and there are quite a few restaurants in the area to try. But I recommend others give this location a shot and see what they think! read more

I really enjoyed my visit here! I was in town last October for a wedding. I had heard of Cracker Barrel before, but had never been to one since there aren't any in California. My cousin and I decided to stop in for dinner. I had a delicious battered and fried catfish fillet while my cousin had some good ol' fashion southern cooking - grits, collared greens, fried okra, etc. The okra was great and I loved their sweet tea too! We had the most pleasant and attentive waiter while we were there. I wish I had gotten his name. I was amused by the little country store they had attached to the restaurant (again - first time into a Cracker Barrel, haha!). There just a lot of good eating and fixins' for everyone! Their biscuits are my fave. Sunday features Southern Fried Chicken a must if you're in town on Sunday. Service - Awesome service everyday except early Sundays. Lunch time on Sunday is a beast. Get in before church gets out or you will wish you had stayed home. Take-out is available! The front of house is always crammed full of everything you can imagine from candy to clothes to seasonal items to you name it. Always bustling, the coffee is good and the waiters/waitresses are hardworking and pleasant. Breakfast 24/7 is always appropriate. Beware the veggie plate! I always plan to eat a light veggie plate but when it arrives I see that I have fallen prey to fried okra, macaroni and cheese and chicken and dumplings. It gets me every time! Went here for a guaranteed regular meal, something that I can get at any Cracker Barrel.I was on the road for work and just wanted something that was not fast food. I got the chicken fried steak with collard greens, mac and cheese, and carrots, with the biscuit. Nothing of this meal was as it should be. I received cornbread instead of a biscuit, the steak was cold and soggy, the mac and cheese and carrots were not hot, and the collard greens tasted like they were scooped out from the corner of the Cracker Barrel kitchen. I guess there is a first for everything! Never have I been so disgusted with a CB. Our family is always on the road & frequent CBs often. This one was all around bad. The host & server seemed very aloof & flighty. The server wasn't able to answer simple questions about what was in a soup. My chicken sandwich was overflowing with mayo that I could only manage 2 bites. The fries were not hot & the biscuits were cold & one even burnt! The service was good had to ask for refills but only because my brother drinks sweet tea like it's going out of style! I had hamburger steak with a baked potato and a garden salad. The worst experience I have every had at Cracker Barrel. Seated very quickly with no wait, but after we were seated with our menus we had to wait at least 15-20 minutes before my family and I was offered anything to drink. They were not busy and still took an hour before we received our food never once was we checked on. We order 2 pieces of Coca Cola cake was charge for both pieces but I was put into one container and was told yeah they take one piece and cut it in half to make two pieces that's right. I was like okay thank you. I'm not one to complain, but this trip to Cracker Barrel will be my last. read more

We eat at Cracker Barrel all over the Midwest and South and this was by far the worst food here we have ever had. My husband and I got the Pecan crusted catfish and it was burnt. My rice pilaf was cold and so was my broccoli. Our friend got steak and eggs and it was cooked wrong . He wanted over easy eggs and they were over hard and his steak was supposed to be medium and it was rare. Over all not a good meal. The service was very good as always. read more
