Ryan's Steak House. Anyone else know that story? We stopped in here after a long drive , and still weren't finished yet, but we needed a restroom and dinner. So we hit the restroom first and I have a son with special needs who needs my help in the restroom so we went in to the handicapped stall and had to head right back out because it was way too reminiscent of the Ryan's Steak House trope. Anyway enough bathroom talk. We were seated right away and it wasn't too busy but still took a little time to get our food. Our server Sierra was one of the sweetest ladies we've ever had at any sit down restaurant, and not to mention, the manager Ben was an absolute angel. We were there Sunday with a group of 14. We put our party on the wait list and were told it would be a 35 minute wait. instead, it was an hour and a half wait. As we had children and it was Mother's Day, we did not leave because we knew there would be a wait elsewhere and our time would start over at a new restaurant. Once we were seated, it took an additional 30 minutes for our server to take drink orders. the server then stopped to talk to others before bringing drinks to the table. When the manager asked about our visit, I mentioned these things. The MANAGER'S response was, "Well, you guys took up half the dining room." Long story short, we were at the table from 3:50 until until 7:30- not because we sat and talked, but because we waited for drinks and waited even longer for food. 12/10 do not recommend. Service was terrible. Manager was hateful. In the future, we will drive the additional miles to another Cracker Barrel. if I could have selected negative stars I would have selected that. read more

Visiting from Florida service was great and semi quick the waiters were nice. I ordered the biscuit beignets I expected them to be hard but they were very soft which I loved!! The service was great! The new menu was disappointing, there were new items and some of my party tried them. I ordered grilled chicken tenders, they have had delicious grilled chicken tenders for decades. I am not sure what is going on but these were not the same. They were bland and unappealing. I don't know if this is part of the new way to make them, but if so, it's not delicious. The oil lamps on the table are also gone, they gave so much to the home style feel and ambiance. I'm not a huge cracker barrel fan, but I'm going to rate THIS cracker barrel in this review. 8-9-19 Ordered the chicken fried chicken, specifically asked for a LOT of gravy when I ordered my meal. The wait was very long to get the food, and when we got it it had a tiny bowl of gravy. I asked again for lots more gravy. It took over 10 minutes to get it, she told me the kitchen was holding on gravy. When a customer asks for more of something, and the server does not enter the order any different than a regular order, then that is in the server and not the kitchen. I was not happy with the service at all on this visit. We hardly ever saw our server to get other things that we need as well. read more

The service sucked. The waitress didn't bring us back what we wanted. We had to ask another waitress to bring it. Trash was all over the restaurant. The waitresses just walked over the top of it, not even picking it up and the biscuits and cornbread was served in a basket that they used to put silverware in during Covid with no napkin on it. It was just thrown in the basket, I think this Cracker Barrel has piss poor waitresses and needs better training and better management. I do not get notification or texts even tho it says it will update you in the progress of your order. I dint understand y they ask u if u if u want utinsils since most of their meals require them and they won't even give u a plastic fork needless to say a simple straw or ketchup. Apparently it must cost the actual employees to give u these things. They should never ask u to message special instructions on ur order even simple stuff to eat, drink or a napkin. I've been to many Cracker Barrel's in my time and never ever this one again. So super glad I moved to eastern Ky where they apparently eat w their hands. The wait staff here is always so reliably effect and friendly. Never know when you will see an old classmate from High School or someone you know from years ago taking your order. Rarely have I had to wait. This Sunday was the exception. Had to wait about 15 minutes to get a table. This was not an issue. Just purchase a local newspaper for 50 cents (that correct only 50 cents) , sit on the front porch in the rocking chair and relax. The food is reliable Cracker Barrel. No complaints. The food was really good and hot today. I have visited in the past the food was just warm. Our waitress was nice and very efficient.

This location is harder to get into off the interstate I -64, also so so food and hit or miss service, today was a miss. Odd that kid breakfast charge for a mini milk, we usually get two cartons for $2. 49... and the oddest part is at 11am for lunch kids drinks are free with a kids meal. The kids breakfast was a burnt bacon slice with three mini pancakes that were cold. Never shocked by servers lack of interest, asked for butter and was told it is in the jelly bowl, nope not there... she seemed annoyed when we had to find her to ask again for butter. Was she annoyed with us or her jelly bowl...we are 100% sure it was with us. Just another normal Cracker Barrel visit. read more

After a bad experience at Frankfort CB, and walking out without eating after 50 minutes of being seated, we decided to try our luck at the Mt Sterling CB. Upon being seated, our waiter Chris approached our table immediately and brought drinks. I could tell he was good and he cared about his job. With in 10 minutes we were eating good hot food. Disappointing visit yesterday, although prior visits were good. Nobody at host station for quite some time. Once seated, wait staff was very pleasant and efficient. Three of us had luncheon meals and one had breakfast. The good: hamburger steak, biscuits, eggs and bacon. The not very good: chicken pot pie (actually the chicken itself...rubbery and did not even look real), the grits (VERY runny) and the green beans. Most surprising: no ranch dressing for salads. Our family went here for breakfast on Saturday morning. We had a great waitress! We never had to ask for anything she was spot on and she wore her mask the correct way! Our food was great! My issue was with the waitress Mary! The whole time we were there she wore her mask below her nose!! Have been to this location quite a few times, and this visit pushed me to finally review this particular location. I came at 8ish on a Saturday morning and things went well from the beginning. But after ordering, I had to ask after 5 minutes for the server to bring my coffee (not a huge issue that she forgot, but if I'm going to pay $2.50 for coffee, I want to get my money's worth and start drinking while I'm waiting for my food). After waiting for what seemed like way too long, my food finally came. I ordered the Sunrise Sampler and though some of my items were hot and fresh, quite a few left a bit to be desired. The good: the biscuits were perhaps the best I can remember having at a Cracker Barrel (though it could've used a bit more salt), the hash brown casserole & fried apples reminded me why I look for meals that have both of them, and the coffee (once I got it) wasn't too hot I had to wait to drink. I also did have a water with my coffee and it was refilled before it was empty; basically whenever I brought something to my server's attention it was fixed. The okay: the gravy was a bit congealed, but it was still warm enough. The bad: the meat was hard and dry (I was barely able to put my fork in the ham, the bacon was crumpled up and dry, and didn't even try the sausage because it looked incredibly dry), and my eggs had to be returned because they were cold (no joke, thought they'd spent some time in the fridge before coming to me; but it was replaced after pointing it out and it was okay when I got it re-cooked). The extremely maddening: when I asked for cheese on my grits I was charged $1.19 and LITERALLY had 7 shreds of cheese that didn't even melt. I don't know if this was due to the temperature of the grits or the quality of the cheese; regardless, it was not pleasant! I will probably go back to this Cracker Barrel, but it will most likely be due to my lack of remembering this poor experience. Proceed with caution. read more

Arrived late into town and decided to settle on Cracker Barrel for a light quick meal. However, we did not realize we were in for a surprising treat. Had the Low Country Boil, something I did not expect to find at CB and about which I was highly skeptical that such a menu item at Cracker Barrel could match some Charleston low country shrimp dishes I've had. The servings were generous, the shrimp were large and plentiful (10), the sausage, sauce and veggies were delicious. And while the taste of the dish did not match the authentic dishes of THE Low Country, it was very close, surprisingly appetizing and delicious! I also had a great server, who was fast and efficient in providing requests with a great sense of humor! A-OK is exactly how I would describe the Cracker Barrel - good, ole fashion, home-cooking, but nothing too fancy. I often associate Cracker Barrels with road trips, because the first time I ever visited one was when my mom and I road-tripped to Chicago for college. I was so excited to find this "gem" and honestly believed we had gone to the only one! (haha, I know.) It wasn't until I got to school that I realized this place was a middle America phenomenon, and was oft found along the interstates of the Midwest, etc. Well, once realizing this, it became a roadtrip staple. En route from DC to NYC, we'd make a Cracker Barrel stop. From Chicago to Wisconsin for weekend retreats, of course there'd be a stop at the ole country store! And naturally when my dad and I road-tripped x-country from the East Coast to the West Coast when I moved from Washington D.C. to San Francisco, of course we stopped at a Cracker Barrel. And where better to do it than in Kentucky?! :) p.s. try the dumplings! I thought dumplings were only found in Asian cuisine, but it turns out they're essential in Southern-style cooking! Went there on Saturday October 27th about 4:30. Went in to get seated and the 3 people just stood there and we had to tell them we needed a table for 2. Thet took us to the first table and sat us down where we could not move the table to get away from the people next to us. After we sat there was a man came in and got his drink before he sat down the two other customers came in after him and got waited on before us also. We left and called to talk ti the manager after I calmed frst and was told she was busy and was told she would call me back. After 2 1/2 weeks still no call. Is this the way they treat customers. Our service was not very good especially considering the restaurant could only seat 33% of the restaurant due to COVID 19. I met my family and they had already placed their orders . The server took my drink order and brought my Diet Coke, but never came back for my food order. She delivered my family's food and my mother told her I wanted to order. I told her I wanted beans and greens with corn muffins To Go. My food came out in a fair amount of time, but it was not packaged to go! :( she took it away and finally returned with it packaged nicely with the correct condiments I requested! Much like any other Cracker Barrel, it is located just off the interstate, but you have to wind your way past a hotel to get in. Large parking lot with bus and RV parking available. You enter through a large gift shop. There was no wait for a table. Our waitress was attentive, but food was slow to come out. My husband had the Friday fried cod special--hubby said it was very good. He loves those southern kitchen sides and enjoyed pinto beans, corn bread muffins and greens. I ordered the grilled chicken salad with fat free Italian dressing. There are healthy options on the menu. It was okay. I tried a corn muffin, it was dry and bland--butter didn't even help. Teenager had the grilled chicken BLT with mashed potatoes. Those potatoes were just slopped into and overflowing the small dish. Presentation isn't a strength. He isn't a fan of coleslaw and could have substituted something. He liked his choice of sandwich. Back out through the large gift shop to pay the bill and hit the road again. read more

I always have to go to Cracker Barrel at least once during a road trip. I couldn't believe it when we walked in and they were actually pretty dead - not just for Cracker Barrel, but for restaurants in general. My food was good, though my chicken and dumplings felt a little...like they'd been sitting in a pot forever or something. The chicken was okay but there was hardly any sauce and some of the dumplings were either stuck together or were just way too big. But they weren't awful, just not amazing. I agree with the other reviews that this was an A-OK experience. It was busy when we came for dinner so our group split to get seated faster. For us the food was much better than the service. I don't have abnormally high expectations for service for a casual place like this. But still the service was not up to par. Some how my salad was the last dish out, about 10 mins past my family getting their dinners. Then the server could not seem to get our drink refills straight. Twice he refilled our unsweetened Tea with sweet tea and then forgot to refill those who had water. This guy was just not with it. Our food was good and overall it was a decent experience. read more

I live within walking distance of Cracker Barrel but I rarely eat there because it's terrible slow and they have NEVER given me an order exactly as I placed the order. It seems to me that when you order something as TAKE-OUT that the restaurant should make sure your order is correct before they give it to you. It seems like a TAKE-OUT order should ALWAYS have plastic silverware IN THE BAG when you pick it up. The management of this restaurant doesn't seem to care if you're satisfied or not because I called and complained after about 3 mistakes in a row. The problem is that it didn't help one bit because they've screwed up every order since then as well. I only wish I didn't live in Mount Sterling because there isn't a single restaurant here that serves great food. Not one. The Waffle House is probably the best place in town...what does that tell you? If you're starving to death while traveling and come across Mt. Sterling KY as you drive along Interstate 64 do yourself a favor and KEEP DRIVING... there's nothing but sad food here. Sorry to offend any residents but the truth hurts. read more

Traveling. If nothing else, you know a Cracker Barrel will be consistent. I wanted to try one of the lunch specials that have been plastered on the billboards lining the interstates. Didn't realize certain days have certain items. Sorry, I know it is CB, but I didn't want chicken and dumplings or turkey and dressing or gravy. I almost ordered the salad and soup, but the soup options were the same. CB: Grease, fat, butter, lard. Has anyone noticed most of the food at CB is brown or bland in color. What happened to fresh salads? Original side dishes? I realize CB caters to older folks and buses, but older folks like salads, fresh fruit, and bread other than biscuits or cornbread. What about the younger clientele? Of course, looking around the restaurant, other than my wife, son, and me, there was only one other person below the age of 50 in the establishment (other than a few of the employees). I stopped, for the most part going to Bob Evans restaurants because of the bland and unoriginal menu items. Now that I have jogged my memory, BE might have CB beat. As for this particular location. Friendly enough employees. Food was okay despite my comments above. I had the Reuben, fries, and cole slaw. The other members of my party ate the traditional CB food. To be honest, this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. We waited 5 minutes to be seated even though there was literally only one family seated and eating already. Those were the only other customers in the restaurant. It is what it is so we were seated and we ordered our drinks. We got those quickly and then we ordered our food that we order at every Cracker Barrel we go to. (We came into town for a funeral and we needed to eat before we went home so we chose Cracker Barrel as it is usually fantastic.) We quickly got our food and we began eating to instantly realized this is not like the Cracker Barrel from where we are from. The food was hot which is good but it was disgusting. My boyfriend got country fried steak and I got chicken tenders, as always. It was just terrible. The food was completely bland and had a terrible burnt taste even though it wasn't burnt. I would say it tasted like a microwave dinner but even microwave dinners taste better. We just want to save someone from making this terrible mistake as we did. We kept running out of drinks because the food was so bad we didn't want to waste it so we ate most of it but chugged our drinks leaving us without drinks half of the time. It was $6 for two drinks which is outrageous. They put just a 1/4 cup of gravy on the entree when everywhere it's covered. The chicken tenders were the tiniest little things but were better than the country fried steak. The price for the entrees would have been alright if the food was good. Let's start off by saying the location on the Yelp map is wrong. The address is correct. I think it's a Yelp error. I'm not a fan of any big chain restaurants, but sometimes hunger can get the best of anyone. Being right off the highway and sounding better than a drive through, I took the bait. If you've never been to a Cracker Barrel, it's a store with all kinds of gift type things and a southern home style restaurant, almost always located right off an interstate. Let's start with the service. The server had 4 tables as best as I could tell, only 3 were occupied when I sat down. He was just slow enough to give us time to look over the menu, some people would say it's slow, but that gets the food and drink orders in together. I call it efficiency. Unfortunately that's about the last we saw of him. Another table was sat in his section, they got up and left. One more table was sat in his section, they had to get the the attention of another server. I got 1 drink refill, the bread came out as a desert, but he did apologize for the fireplace being on... (Not sure why, it was a cool day) The only thing worse than the service was the food. I ordered the catfish with a whole mess of sides, they aim to fill you up! Unfortunately it's quantity in place of quality. There wasn't enough lemon to cover the stank of the fish (I would have asked for more, but see problem #1) and the tarter sauce just wasn't cutting it either. I ordered cheese grits knowing they are usually a hit or miss kind of thing. They missed. Completely. One bite was more than enough. Also ordered fried apples. They were fine, but weren't peeled. Really odd, but ok. Why 2 stars? They throughly earned 1 star, but I'm throwing in an extra one for an experience I had, and stars are free so why not? They put the tables so close together it's impossible to get out without hitting (or being hit) the person behind you. The guy I hit was super nice, I talked with him and his family for a while. This location of Cracker Barrel needs more servers because the customers are waiting 10-15 minutes to get served. What helps this location is piping hot food that comes out of the kitchen and very accurate. Each time that I come to this restaurant in Mt. Sterling, the supervisors are busy talking with employees about things that have nothing to do with making the experience better inside. I find that this store is also very messy and folding t-shirts that other customers take out and do not put back on the shelves is also not a good thing. read more

This restaurant I became a fan of, NOT because it was just a dining experience, but because it was also a work experience. Let me explain: Since I work part flex time with an inventory agency, I went here last night, into today, to inventory their backroom and sales floor. During the inventory, this business was probably one of the few, I have been to, (other businesses being markets) that fed our entire team. They had out four different kinds of pizzas, buttered corn, and stuffing. For drinks, it HAD to be their ice tea, which they probably always tout, as their signature beverage. Everything was piping hot and it just really made me want to stay there and do an excellent inventory. Granted this should be a review, entirely on the food; however, I rate them mostly because of their willingness to treat another business well. I've been to this store many times, typically on Sunday mornings when the place is packed, and service has always been exemplary. However, tonight on a relatively slow Sunday evening, service has been completely dismal. It took 10 minutes to be seated with only one party of four ahead of me, it took another 10 minutes to be waited on, another 5 minutes to get drinks(2 waters) now here I am 38 minutes from entering the store still waiting on my dinner. I am completely disappointed in the management of the store at this time and hope something changes soon before I walk out and find somewhere else to eat. read more
