Nostalgia, charm, personality... these things matter when you visit a restaurant that's like an old friend. The Cracker Barrel Pub in Tariffville (part of Simsbury) is not affiliated with the Cracker Barrel chain, but the menu is somewhat similar in that there is a lot of variety. This restaurant has been around as long as I've lived in Simsbury and I grew up here. Katie was our waitress this time, and she alone was doing every single job when we arrived around 2:30pm. She was the bartender, the busboy and our attentive waitress... I'm not sure who was in the kitchen though. Even though it was mid afternoon the bar side of the restaurant, that has tables and booths, did have a handful of patrons. Katie took her time recommending local beers to us. She checked on us after our food arrived. She truly held the fort down and gave us the perfect amount of attention. That said my husband ordered a medium-rare mushroom burger that arrived medium well. My medium-well Blackened & Blue birder arrived well done (but not burned). The toasted buns were delicious and fresh. The fries were not hot when they arrived, but they were still very good. We enjoyed our burgers even though they weren't cooked to our specifications, our beers were perfect, and the experience was just what we wanted. We WILL be back! And will be sure to order some wings next time (they truly are the best).

This is not your chain Cracker Barrel. There's no store, no tchotchkes, and no breakfast all day. This is a pub, located in a beautifully restored mill next to a tiny town green. There is street parking available up front, and a small lot available in back. The back entrance does require climbing one flight of stairs. Inside there are two rooms - one is a straight dining room, and the other has the bar and assorted tables and high tops. It must be popular with the locals of Tariffville, and who could blame them? Whoever made the menu had fun, and you can taste that in the food. The cool ranch nachos have the delicious cool ranch flavor, but not so much you don't recognize it's actually a plain tortilla chip you're eating. The meatball is all over the menu, even in the salad section! The burgers are traditional pub, although I would not ask for medium well or above - the outside may get a little crispy. The seasoning still shines even then though. The food is delicious, and you'll want to go back to try the other menu items you didn't try on your first trip.

I guess they have a new chef (cook), the top photo is how the burger used to be, I order the same today and it's plain (no, cheese, lettuce, tomato or onion), it's over cooked (I ordered medium rare and it's very well), the onion rings are burnt as well as the bun. Nope not again.

One of my favorite spots! Always great food and service... I especially enjoy the big salad, crack fredo, onion soup and of course the pizza! Can't go wrong with this place:)

I used to love this place. I've brought friends and family there, sadly I probably won't do it again. Evidently they have changed chefs and until they do so again I won't be back. I understand that during this pandemic things are tough, my wife and I usually go out on Saturday evenings, so we have been ordering take out from our favorite restaurants that we would go to normally. That's no excuse for the meal that I received. Seriously, where was the rest of my sandwich? And the chips that I am eating, because I'm hungry, are saltier than any sardines that I've ever eaten.

Less than stellar tonight. Thirty minutes for the food (quesadillas and a buffalo chicken salad) to come out. As we waited, the server walked by us 4 times, ignored us 4 times, and schmoozed and hugged people at the booth in front of us. I was worried that my wife's quesadilla was going to be cold, but it wasn't. Turned out my broiled chicken was cold, but I could see the handwriting on the wall that was an off night and didn't say a word. Server told us at the end (right around invoice time) that she was slammed busy, they were understaffed, they had big parties inside, big parties outside, and the kitchen was backed up -on and on yadda yadda yadda. 1) I'm sorry the restaurant was busy, but don't restaurants want to be busy on a Friday at dinner time? By the way, the dining room had 14 tables and booths, and six were empty. I counted. 2) I'm sorry the restaurant appeared to be understaffed. If that's a management issue, shame on management for overloading the servers. 3) I'll cut our server a little slack in case she was super busy, but she wasn't busy enough to kibbitz with the table in front of us and hug patrons more than once. If you're that busy you have to know how to prioritize and manage your time, and she didn't at all. 4) Was she so busy that she can excuse walking by us 4X as the clock hit a 30-minute wait and not say a word? 5) Was she so busy that she was forced to wait until the check was on the table to explain the service deficiencies? Doubt we'll be back. Oh, and one more word of advice, get some more coasters to put under the leg of our wobbly table. The 6 you had there weren't getting the job done. .

This place had 4.4 stars when I found it after visiting a cleaning my employees were doing in south Windsor in Pepin Place (named for legitimacy and to prove this is not a robot) The server had a weird energy from the jump but it was ignorable and I'll keep my race out of it; we've all had bad days. She let me try a beer before I eventually ordered it, everything was fine. We ordered our food, and with a staggering 4-5 other people in the restaurant, our food took much longer than it should've in my honest opinion. That is just icing, not my main issue, but since we're reviewing a restaurant and not a doctors office, yeah... I explicitly asked if the half nachos were a good size for one person, and the server seemed adamant they would be so I got that and onion rings. The food finally came and I'm not exaggerating when I saw there were 12-15 chips on the plate. For a half order, the chicken portion was fine but I didn't order a pile of chicken. My lady's smash burger was probably the least appetizing thing I've ever had brought to a table I was sitting at. We respectfully let the server know her burger looks terrible and I admitted to eating some of the nachos so I'd pay for it, but that I would like to send the nachos back. My son with me had chicken tenders and got be with us, his food looked more appetizing than anyone else's. The server/bartender took it upon herself to take our comments about the food personal, which was evident by her snap response to let us know the obvious- that she didn't cook it (Sherlock is ALIVE). It all went left from there; the server brought me a check with an extra drink on it, tried to refuse printing me another check but I made her. She brought the check back and I took it upon myself to compare the check (which only states the general classification of the item, not the item) to the menu. This restaurant is likely charging everyone extra dollars on menu items because I found my son's chicken tenders listed as $14 in the receipt but the menu says $13 (again, numbers inserted to add legitimacy). She tried to tell me she'll just charge a dollar less than what the receipt says but that's not gunna work for me (don't know about you) at a place that just tried to over charge me TWICE within a 3 mins span. Server took it upon herself to call her boss, who unfortunately was not in today. I'm confident her story is missing key details and this review is a love letter to him directly. It's also a warning that I scanned my receipt, left this review stating it was about $58, and I'm sure they don't want the consequences of retaliating by trying to overcharging me for a third time. I'd stay far away from this place if you enjoy good service and quality meals.

The bartender there was so helpful with my food order as I asked what he recommended and he gave me numerous choices to go with. He suggested the wings and pizza which I took his advice. I ordered the 4 boneless wings for $5.00 along with the medium size pizza for $17. I went with the boom boom sauce on the boneless wings and i really loved the flavor and fresheners of the wings. The iron horse also makes their own blue cheese dressing. I also went with the thin all American style pizza crust 1/2 bbq chicken and 1/2 buffalo chicken as I couldn't decide and wanted to try both. I feel the Buffalo chicken would be more flavorful with their homemade blue cheese dressing drizzled on it too. I also ordered their $1 slice pepperoni pizza to go for my kids. I really enjoyed everything i ordered. I especially love their boneless wings they make and if you haven't tried yet the boom boom sauce you must. It's a combination of chipotle sauce and ranch dressing. Definitely will be back to try more food during happy hour. The place has a good size bar area and offers great specials for drinks. They just opened the patio that they have as well. There are other locations available to visit. Unionville , Bristol.

The wings come out still crispy and pairs well with bleu cheese dressing. I don't believe it is a premade flavor, since it comes out slightly different each time. Always delicious and I always dream about them. Not pictured but the brussel sprouts are also a great shareable. Our pizza was as cheesy as can be. We always leave with leftovers which I happily devour the next day.

Just functional. I was there on an NFL Sunday. There were lots of regulars. There was good interaction with the staff. I didn't catch her name, but the woman who was the only person working the bar and waiting on the tables was amazing. She was super friendly to everyone. She hustled to meet everyone's needs. It wouldn't surprise me if she is an owner too. It's hard to find people, who aren't owners, who are that committed. I asked for a wing flavor recommendation and she said "Montreal Honey" first. I ordered 6. The wings are part-baked and then finished in a fryer. Good inner and outer texture. The Montreal Seasoning was right on. The Honey didn't have much of a presence either visually or flavor-wise. More was needed to balance the salt from the Montreal Seasoning and to justify the Honey in the name. I tried both the Blue Cheese and the Ranch. I'd recommend the Blue Cheese. I'll definitely return to try more wing flavors. I also ordered a crock of chili, which was full of ground beef and topped with melted cheddar and chopped red onions. The chili was solid. I'd probably try something else before I ordered it again though. I'm a fan of Hideaway and I'll be back. 4.25 Stars

I saw on their social page that Redstone has really stepped up their game of late. Think a new menu, lower prices, a super simplified Happy Hour (Every menu item & drink is $3 OFF), Weekly Specials, a lunch menu, and special events Trivia Tuesdays, Game Night Thursdays, and Wine & Whiskey Wednesdays. Our server Josh was great, super friendly and helpful. With the Happy Hour discount, we bought 2 Mich Lights for $3 a pop, a BLT with chips for $13. And a chicken quesadilla for $13. The BLT had quite a bit of bacon, and likewise, the quesadilla had quite a bit of chicken. We were very happy with our Happy Hour experience. Nice job reinventing yourself, Redstone.
