This place is awesome! Let's start with the service....Y'all we called Saturday afternoon and within an hour the owner, Jared, called us back and got us in same day. I'm so glad we decided to look in the window earlier in the day. Drew, our server, took excellent care of us. In fact, I've never been to a restaurant where every team member touched our table and spoke to us. The owner Jared made his way to our table, knew my name by our reservation time, and man was he awesome! Now to the food.... my wife and I both got the black truffle filet and it was fantastic. This amazing restaurant in West Jefferson, NC could go toe to toe with any fancy NY City restaurant and come out head and shoulders above them all! This was not our first visit here, but like our other two experiences, it was five star! The food, the service, the attention to detail, the way the wait staff worked as one team...just perfection! Tonight we had the smoking tuna tower for an appetizer, I had the crab cakes with grits, & my husband had the duck. All of these were crafted to perfection and attention to detail. The wine list worked well with the entree offerings and we enjoyed a lovely bottle of pinot noir that complemented both of our entrees very well. read more

Our first time here. The food was outstanding. Obviously prepared by chefs who knew their craft. Portions were generous and nicely presented. Two small issues: The bread they serve with meals is excellent but the portions are very small. About a 4x4 inch square. They will gladly refill but it would be more convenient to get enough to start with. The other is that our server was very friendly but we were a bit put off by his attire. He wore old baggy jeans and sneakers that were dirty and untied. Not trying to be too critical but this is an upscale restaurant and this can be a turn off to many patrons. Awesome dinner! We had a group of six and were all very pleased with the warm greeting we received. Our server (Patrick) was exceptional. He did an excellent job of presenting the menu items and ensured each of our group were satisfied with our dinner selection. Our food arrived and each presentation was great. The menu is somewhat short, but I think there's something there for everyone. The second things to know is that this is beyond a doubt the finest dining in the area. We visited this restaurant on May 21st, my 37th birthday. We walked in and were immediately nervous (ok, me not my husband) because we had our three kids with us as we were just visiting in the area. Although we do dine out, 3 kids are well.. three kids. From the very beginning we were treated like gold. Beyond. Drew was so good to our family I can't even put it into words. He was so kind and patient to our kids and made sure they had a delish steak tips dinner with the incredible mashed potatoes and green beans. Our one year old was gibbering a little but everyone just stopped talked to her with a cheerful voice. (I'm assuming smiles -- they were all masked) I needed that night out so badly and they made it just above and beyond amazing with their service. We had the shrimp with white chocolate risotto and the crab cakes with grits and both were over the top delicious. I can't put enough positive into this post. They made us feel welcomed more then I have anywhere else. Special shout out to Drew's brother Rich (hopefully we are remembering correctly) and the chef/owner for their wonderful care of our family! Please, please do support them during COVID - you will not be disappointed! We had the crab cakes with grits, the filet and crab cake and also the pan seared scallops. All of the dishes were amazing and flavorful! In town for the weekend and really wanted to support local restaurants. So glad we chose this place...we had our kiddos with us so we chose to get our food to go and head back to the lodge. But even the to go was hot and portioned really well. My wife and I had fish dishes, Sea Bass and Salmon, and my wife said it may have been the best Sea Bass she had ever had. The arrive was very good as well, attentive and informative without being pushy. The owner/chef stopped by to chat for a bit and you can tell he loves what he does. Fabulous meal! We started with the smoked trout guacamole which was very flavorful and delicious with the toasted pitas. Filet was outstanding flavor, large piece And perfectly done. We rented a mountain cabin with friends and went into this small town looking for dinner on a Friday night. Yelp had this place rated 5 stars without a whole lot of other info (menu, $ signs, etc.). We decided to give it a try and were rewarded with one of the best restaurant experiences I've had in a long time! Walked in needing a table for six, were promptly seated and our server was quickly table side. Drinks hit the table soon after and we shared a fantastic smoked salmon guacamole appetizer which was plenty for all six of us. Wine was very reasonably priced ($7!) for a nice pour of Decoy Pinot Noir. Entrees arrived shortly after and everyone loved their meals! Well-prepared, beautifully plated and nice proportions of food were quickly devoured. I had crab cakes and grits and the crab cakes were huge- bigger than a hockey puck! I brought one home. My lovely bride had the duck breast with mashed potatoes and cleaned her plate. Others raved over their scallops. Owner stopped by our table to chat and we ended up talking for 5 minutes as he has a very interesting background in the restaurant industry. My husband and I visit this establishment regularly. The food is absolutely wonderful and the service could not be better. The staff is always extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the food. When visiting last night the owner came over to speak with us (as he makes a point to do with every guest). Our 4 month old began fussing as our food came out and he offered to take him and walk him through the restaurant so my husband and I could both eat. He proceeded to walk with him and show him the art throughout the restaurant and took him to look out the front windows. We could not ask for better customer service and food. read more

This place accommodated my family and I on a day that they didn't even plan on opening. The owner (who is also the chef) and his wife provided an amazing meal to all 22 of us and provided excellent service. This place is absolutely amazing in all aspects. By the end of our first meal (scallops with risotto and the steak filet as well as the tiger shrimp appetizer) we made reservations for the following night! We've been visiting the West Jefferson area for 30 years but never tried Craft Bistro until last night. Simply an outstanding meal -- food quality, portions, service... all excellent. And a nice atmosphere in a modest-sized space with beautiful local landscape photos covering the walls. We were a party of four, sharing several apps (lamp pops, smoked salmon guacamole, mussels) then each of us ordering a different entrée -- crab cakes, duck breast, salmon, steak filet.
