Went here to try to get some decent seafood. Wasn't sure about the process or what they served. Asked the server if the food is cooked in a plastic bag (which I didn't think would be healthy) he replied no it wasn't. Well the food (small lobster, small crab legs and unshelled shrimp arrived in a hot plastic bag. Either the food is pre-cooked and they just re-heat it in a plastic bag or it's cooked in a plastic bag. Either way not my idea of a healthy meal. Also asked for some butter for dipping (the very small lobster tail and the tiny crab legs) which the server brought out. The "butter" if that's what it was had a horrible rancid taste which the server did nothing about when we mentioned it to him. All in all for two people we spent well over well $110.00 which included a 15% non-negotiable "service charge" that was added to the bill. Second time at this establishment and just as good as first time. Located in strip mall with ample parking and conveniently located. Staff was solid explaining the menu and helping to easily order. The inside has an inviting feel with naval theme. They have a large TV and sofa seating for groups looking to watch a movie or sporting event. As appetizer we ordered Hush Puppies which were "meh". For main course, We ordered a seafood boil with lobster , crab legs and shrimp with Cajun spice which was seasoned perfectly. Gotta say this place for a franchise is one of my favorites. Over the past few months I have tried calling the restaurant and even tried contacting corporate and they have never gotten back to me and never answer the phone when I try calling so I decided to leave a review instead. The place is located in a plaza with easy in and easy out with plenty of parking. Overall there was plenty of seating and can accommodate large parties. The main dining was clean. The staff was pleasant however not ambitious. Menu is pretty straight forward with lots of options from wings to boils. The boil was good and flavorful. Dripping with sauce everywhere...and I loved it! We dined in and the manager was awesome to let us sit in an exclusive section away from the party of 20. She also replaced my drink that I spilled across the table as soon as I got it. Thank you! I got the shrimp and crab legs bag with the bomb sauce--garlic, lemon and Cajun mix. Comes with potatoes and corn and I added eggs. Listen! So good, seasoned very well but not salty. The meat was tender and easy to get out of the shells. My boyfriend and I tried Crafty Crab on a Tuesday night. When we arrived there wasn't a wait and we were seated immediately. The interior of the restaurant is very very nice. They have a good menu with a variety of options. It is expensive, but I expected that for seafood, and the prices are fair for what you get. I ordered a seafood boil with a pound of snow crab and a half pound of headless shrimp, garlic butter for the sauce. It came with potatoes and corn in it. My boyfriend did the catfish. The food was great. My boyfriend enjoyed his catfish very much. My food was excellent. All of the seafood was fresh and plentiful, and cooked to the perfect level of doneness (I find that many restaurants overcook shrimp and crab so that made me very happy). The potatoes and corn that were inside were so good in the sauce. The sauce itself was delicious, it had a deep flavor and the spices were balanced really well. I ordered mild spice and it was perfect for me. They give you gloves and a bib to wear and let me tell you, you're going to need them. They also leave a roll of paper towel on the table which you also definitely need. The waitress was very attentive and kept our drinks full and made sure we were happy with our food. I got the lobster poboy and sweet potato fries carry out. I paid $22 and i feel like there was barely any lobster in the sandwich, although the flavor was good. I enjoyed the sauce they put on it. The sweet potato fries were really good as well. I was halfway through my meal before i remembered to take a picture. First, the food was excellent. Not too many places have king crab on the menu these days, the king crab boil was great! Our server was great also. Prices were reasonable. 5 stars for food and service. However, the restaurant was not clean. Walking up to the front door, every window and glass door was streaked, smudged, just dirty, the floors needed to be swept and cleaned, and the bathroom obviously had not been scrubbed in a long time. So happy this place finally opened. We have been looking for a comfortable place for our date nights. Everything was wonderful. Today I purchased the crawfish and shrimp seafood boil. This was my first time purchasing anything like this before. When I got home, I began to eat the boil but noticed the shrimp and crawfish tasted strange. I put them to the side and offered them to my family. My family ate a few and also noticed the strange taste and that's when my family realized the crawfish and shrimp were rotten. This being my first time ever ordering a seafood boil, I didn't know that it was actually rotten food I was eating and not just a strange taste. We immediately stopped eating them and took the rest back to the restaurant so they could see for themselves that the shrimp and crawfish were not edible and were black. While I was there, I spoke with XIN Yu (Manager) and then asked for the owner who happened to be there at the same time. The owner refused to see us or hear our concerns over the food they served us and potentially the other customers. This is not what I would expect from a business owner who believes they run a reputable business. Not only did he refuse to even see the food or myself, but the establishment offered us $6 because we ate some of the food not realizing the strange taste was ROTTEN FOOD. This is a health matter and a public safety issue. Rotten seafood is dangerous to consume and what is worse is that we were treated so poorly. The least they could have done was acknowledge the mistake of serving us rotten food and show care for other patrons potentially eating the same thing. Service was not even subpar. I truly hope nobody else gets sick from being served this poison and that this business takes the health of the public seriously moving forward. I will be contacting corporate headquarters and the BBB because this was just DANGEROUS on the behalf of the Crafty Crab. Giving me my money back should have been the least of their concerns but definitely would have been a step in the right direction because the food we were handed was not consumable. I PAID for healthy consumable food, not rotten shrimp and crawfish. They refused to take accountability and take the professional route. This is my PSA about this establishment. read more

I wish I could put zero stars. My crabs were dirty, potatoes were clearly old, when I bit into it the potatoe had black mushy spots inside. I asked for "the boom" sauce and nothing boomed about it. The sauce tasted like parkay and salt. I'm also having a hard time understanding why the sauce was yellowish brown. read more

Dined at Crafty Crab Sunday October 30. Friends were in from Nebraska and stated they do not have a seafood boil place in their town. They suggested this place and I was happy to show them a local establishment. Our experience was great. the food was awesome. they had the boils and I went with Scallops/brocoli and sides of crab rangoons and hush puppies. I have had lunch carry out twice from the Crafty Crab since they opened and the food was delicious. I decided to take my family out for a full blown dinner. We had appetizers of Crab Rangoon and steamed clams with medium seasoning. For dinner we had the Catfish po-boy, Lobster po-boy, Snow-crab and Mussel Boil, and Crawfish and Shrimp Boil. We also had cocktails. The food was phenomenal! Spices were on point! Not too salty, just spicy enough. The Crab Rangoon was the best I have found in about 10 years. (Even better than Chinese Restaurants). The service was admirable for the situation. New servers, new restaurant, a party of at least 15 to 20 was keeping them scrambling, etc. The servers were beyond courteous to spite the fray. The servers will soon learn that large parties don't equate to better tips, and we were not totally neglected. The reason for the 4 stars you ask? The food menu is kind of confusing, the cocktail menu has no descriptions or ingredient listings, and the staff is just getting their bearings (To be expected and forgiven). My only REAL complaint was that 7 of my mussels were unopened (meaning dead from the start, and unsafe to eat.) When paying by the pound that is disappointing. On the up-side, I know the chef and servers are learning and already trying their best and this won't deter me from enjoying future meals at the Crafty Crab in Eastpointe. read more

Today my brother purchased a seafood boil and unknown to us, the crawfish and shrimp were spoiled! It was disgusting. At first, when he ate it, he told us it tasted weird because he's unfamiliar with seafood, however, when the rest of the family tasted it, we realized it wasn't just a strange taste, THE SHRIMP AND CRAWFISH WERE ROTTEN. We told him to take it back and let the restaurant know so that they can check the food for other existing and future customers. When he took the bag back, the owner happened to be there so he requested to speak with the owner and not the manager Xin Yu. The owner refused to talk to him or even see what was served to our family to consume. This is unacceptable. A reputable business and businessman would have stood on principal and not on pride. Please be aware that the only thing GREATER than a nice place to eat, is the customer service offered. Our health is now at risk. YOUR health is at risk when a restaurant doesn't take the quality of the food seriously. Food poisoning is real and we were not treated as human. I recommend going to a different place to eat seafood. We were offered 6$ back... SIX. As a business woman myself, this is not what I would have done. I would have looked at the food, acknowledged the mistake, compensated my customer for the mistake with a refund and accepted a great review. Shame shame shame. read more

We thought we would try somewhere new in the area. Our mistake. First of all, they add 15% gratuity to the bill. The server doesn't tell you before hand. There is however a tiny sign as you walk in. We didn't see it til we left. I find this deceptive. Secondly, the large screen TV was playing some kind of action movie - not meant for children(foul language,etc) and very loud. THe small TV in the corner was running MTV Videos of all things. EXTREMELY inappropriate for small children and just for a restaurant in general. Felt like I was in the club. My son had chicken tenders and fries. They brought him shrimp. They corrected that but the chicken was so dry it was ridiculous. The shrimp in my husbands boil was overcooked and rubbery. I find it hard to believe that I had an actual 1/2 pound of snow crab. The bun on our PO'Boy sandwich was stale and falling apart. That covers the food. Terrible, and cost $98.00 before tip. I can live with all of that. We tried something new and it was crap. We just won't go back. What I really cannot stand is that the place was dirty. Greasy finger marks on the back of the booth. There was nasty greasy stuff all over the papertowel holder and the salt and pepper shakers. When our server brought the plates, they were wet? Why - the place was not busy. There was only 1 other table when we arrived. Where is the manager? Why are you not having waitstaff clean things? I am a restaurant manager. I know how these things are supposed to work. BTW, I am not young as it were. (Not old either) I am just saying that I know how things should run and what a manager's duties are. They are definately not being done. Whoever you are, you are overpaid. Our server was nice, but the bartender - a whole new land of rude. No wonder she had no customers. I wish you well, but I don't think you will be around long. There cannot possibly be that many ignorant people out there willing to spend money on crap in a dirty restaurant, with rude help. DO BETTER read more
