We were in CA at Disneyland. left to drive back to Utah and make it 30 mins before the 2019 expedition overheated. Got in google to find a mechanic and Craig had great reviews. we called him and he told us what to do to get it over to him. He went to work right away. He even gave the kids snacks and drinks while we waited. Found out that the radiator hose clamp had broken. He started searching for replacements right away. He tried his hardest to get us back on the road ASAP but unfortunately parts took longer to get to him than anticipate. he had us back on the road by 1 the next day! He even looked up any potential issues with our car and gave us all the paperwork to have it fixed should it arise. He even coed in with us to make sure everything was going good on the way hone! I really dont like Craig johnson Automotive for several reasons. 1. On the phone they dont dont have enough transparency or tell you there is going to be a charge for a consult. A lot of places do it complimentary, just to be nice. I was hit with over a 70 dollar bill. I didnt want to pay it because I wasnt told that before hand! 2. When they printed out the invoice with the supposed codes from the diagnosting tool on it, it also had a snotty note on it that said,"Customer advised not to come back" . WHo the heck talks to a customer that way when they are the ones in the wrong? 3.They print up these invoices with codes that they probably made up. They want the max money and want you to pay for a problem that will not fix the car because in truth, when it comes to mechanics, they can legally keep your money and there is nothing you can do about it except yelp or hire an attorney. 4. Just for the record..I went to another place down the street where the mechanic was nice enough to get in the car with me with his diagnosing tool, we both took turns driving around and he didnt charge me a thing! He basically told me Craig was lying that my car needed a new cadillac converter which can mimic a transmission problem. That craig needs to go back to school or get more life experience, that not everything can be diagnosed through a tool, that you have to have some keen experience and they rely on machines and computers way too much instead of their own brains. First and foremost, Craig Johnson is a great mechanic to work with. He is extremely communicative, texting and calling back promptly when he says he will. On top of that, he explains the issues with your car concisely and in a language anybody can understand. I brought my PT Cruiser in here after it broke down and refused to stay on, and two days afterwards Craig was able to explain plenty of issues my car was spouting out. Instead of saying that everything needs to be replaced though, he explained that one part of my car was shorting out and that it would cause cascading errors to appear on the system. Due to money issues, I wasn't able to get it repaired at this time, but Craig gave me a detailed list of what he inspected, what he thought needed to be repaired first, and the prices that went along with the repairs he recommended. I was worried that the mechanic would be upset that I couldn't get the car fixed, and that I needed to bring it back to my house. He was understanding, polite, and downright friendly over the entire transaction. You never hear people say this, but I look forward to bringing my car to this garage again! read more

Ok, read all the comments here and I figured they were good and honest because they have such good reviews. So my husband took in my 1999 Lexus RX300 because it was acting up, and my husband called first and told him 2 codes came up on the car, then Mr. Johnson said well I'll charge you $85.00 to hook it up to the machine to get a diagnostic. And they did that and wouldn't you know the same to codes my husband told him he got on his tester, they to got on their tester! And had no clue what it was, so we spent $85 for him to tell us what we already knew regarding the codes and misfire. He then told my husband we could change the spark plugs for $100 or what it needed was a distributor cap & roader and also spark plug wire (a major tune up) which would run us $550, my husband told Mr. Johnson to just change the spark plugs. So our grand total for him telling us exactly what we had told him the problem was with the car and a spark plug job $240. My husband called the lexus dealership to get prices on the Distributor cap and rotor and spark plug wire, to be told by the gentleman from parts from the lexus dealer told my husband "SIR WAIT A MINUTE YOU HAVE A 1999 LEXUS RX300? MY HUSBAND SAID YES, the parts gentleman said YOUR CAR DOSENT COME WITH ANY OF THOSE 3 PARTS ON IT!!!! So we as customer's were just wondering wht was Mr. Johnson gonna actually change on our car once we purchase all these parts for $$$???? They are not honest, they charge you the customer for a diagnostic that you the customer already gave them, and who even knows if they really even changed the spark plugs!!! Don't waste your money coming here, they will tell you your car needs certain things done but who knows if you car even has any of the parts there telling you needs replacing, NEVER AGAIN!!!! read more

When I was having a long-time engine problem, a mechanic friend of mine recommended Craig Johnson Automotive. I'm so glad he did, and here's why. You see: I'd already been to the Nissan dealership to try and get it fixed, and they did some work, which helped a little. Unfortunately though, even after paying them about $250, the car ran better -- at least it no longer stalled out on me -- but still not like it should have. According to the guy at the dealership, I had a cracked distributor that was causing my engine to misfire, which they could fix for, get this, $500 for the part, plus labor to install it. So I decided that maybe I could I get a cheaper part somewhere else, and while I looked around for a more affordable way to fix my problem, I ended up driving around for months on end enduring the same nagging problem. Not being a car person myself, and too busy to do anything about it, months eventually turned into years, still with this annoying engine glitch, not bad enough to shut me down but just plain exasperating. Then came my lucky break -- my friend's recommendation to go to Craig Johnson Automotive. Guess what? Craig fixed the problem in a day! And lo and behold: No cracked distributor, just a faulty circuit board somewhere and voila, problem totally solved! No $500, PLUS LABOR at who knows how much extra on top of that. Total price: $425.00. Now you might say that my savings weren't that great. A couple of hundred, maybe, right? But just think: Had I trusted the dealership, I would've forked out all that money to install a new distributor and still I wouldn't have fixed the problem. I would've right back to square one with a new distributor but still a crappy running car. Not to mention the fact that I'd already paid them the $250, which I might have avoided paying had I known about Craig Johnson Automotive beforehand. But once Craig was done, my car was running like new again! So I finally got my car back after who knows how many years of aggravation and frustration, and for me that's absolutely priceless. If you're looking for a knowledgeable staff and a detailed explanation of their completed work, all at a reasonable price, and the satisfaction when you drive away knowing that you weren't ripped of, then make Craig Johnson your mechanic. In the past I've settled for the lowest priced mechanic, but I'd rarely receive a detailed walk-through (with a detailed printout) of the work done, and some suggestions on how to save $$ in the future. The shop stands by all their work, and are very accommodating to reasonably dissatisfied customers. That I had a lot more must get done items then I initially thought. Was it surprising? Yes it was. After freaking out a bit I said just said yes to everything my car needed. This has got to be the most professional and friendly auto repair I've ever dealt with. Several weeks ago, I brought my S-10 here to have an engine noise diagnosed. In the end, it was bad news and the repairs needed were more extensive than I could handle at the time, but I was still overwhelmingly satisfied with my experience and will definitely bring my other vehicle here next time I need a repair. First, when I arrived and walked into the office, Craig was sitting behind the desk and greeted me personally. I told him what I was there for, but before he started talking shop (pardon the pun), he took the time to ask me if I had been there before. When I said that it was my first time, he took the time to stand up, look me in the eye, shake my hand and introduce himself. This guy is all class. He then introduced me to his daughter, who was very courteous and friendly. She accompanied me to my car and started to write up the service order - again, very friendly the whole time. Moments later, Craig came out and took a listen to the engine noise. He gave me a couple "what if" scenarios, then gave me a specific time frame within which he would call me to let me know what he found. We walked back into the office to finish up the paperwork, where he then introduced me to his wife, who was also extrememly friendly. He asked me if I needed I ride home (which I didn't), then said he'd call me back as soon as he knew anything. He called me back exactly when he said he would. Although he had bad news regarding the state of my vehicle, he took the time to explain the extent of the damage, patiently answer all my questions, and he was honest and up front about my repair options and what it would cost. He didn't try to push me into a costly repair that I couldn't afford. The world could use a lot more honest, family-run businesses like this one. I brought my truck in for a check engine light , and after some checking, Craig found it would need an A.I.R.System replacement, which would cost about 2,000.00. But while my truck was running he noticed a ballooned radiator hose, upon further examination determined that exhaust gas was leaking into the cooling system. With over 300 000. Miles on the engine, we knew it would have to be replaced.i brought it in on a Monday and they had the engine replaced by Wednesday evening. I can't say enough about their expertise and knowledge.
