If anyone is suffering jaw and face exhaustion from clenching due to a misaligned bite, please go see Dr. Kohler for a bite adjustment! I've been complaining to dentists for years about my bite being off, and not having a "home position" for my teeth. The clenching and grinding in my sleep was painful and causing issues with my teeth and gums. Dr. Kohler started with a thorough exam. He then took molds for a bite analysis. When that was finished, I came back in and he talked me through everything, answered all of my questions, told me the cost, and what would and would not be covered by my insurance, and then scheduled me for a bite adjustment. The bite adjustment was quick and painless. In one hour, Dr. Kohler was able to accomplish what I thought could only be done with braces or Invisalign. I instantly noticed how comfortable it was to close my mouth and rest my teeth together. We hit our target: my mouth finally had a comfortable "home position." But when I got home and looked in the mirror, I couldn't believe my eyes. All of the "peaks and valleys" of my teeth aligned with no gaps. I could close my mouth without having to force my lips closed, which caused a wrinkled chin look that I hated. I even woke the next day to a relaxed jaw. I've been fortunate enough to have been treated by the most professional, thorough and compassionate dentists out there. Thanks to him, I have the most comfortable and effective night guard I could hope to find. His thorough exam which included pictures and videos of my teeth helped me understand that my bite is off. I didn't know that some of my teeth were just a tiny bit mobile. This was not due to any kind of gum disease either. I wasn't sure if I would like my NG but also cringed at the thought of losing my teeth if I didn't get one. That would be a terrible thing to happen, especially if there was such a simple solution to prevent it. With my new NG, I no longer have to worry about these costly issues that might arise. Dr. Kohler is by far the best dentist I have ever had. I've had a good bit of work done lately and each time I am left feeling like I just had a world-class experience from a true expert. He's patient, skilled, gentle, and explains what he is doing very well. Beyond that, his staff and office team are awesome. I always enjoy visiting Dr. Koehler. Not only do I get a thorough assessment of what's going on with my teeth, but I also learn so much about the daily dynamics of my eating and chewing habits. He uses video technology to show you his process which is a refreshing self disclosing accountability. Because of this, he is incredibly skilled at assessment and addressing the challenges of my teeth. I wouldn't recommend another dentist to anyone. As a sidenote me and my family relocated to South Florida and I refuse to find another dentist. I fly back to Chicago and make sure that I schedule time to visit him if I have any dental issues or questions. Since my family are also patients, I do the same for them. It's like finding a therapist. Once you find a good one, it makes no sense to start all over again with someone who doesn't know you and who may only serve your needs in part. Dr Kohler has been my family's doctor for the past decade. I needed to get some excessive dental work done but opted to go elsewhere because of the cost. I went to what I thought was a reputable doctor. I spent two and 1/2 years going through the process of implants and crowns. Long story short. I am back at Dr Kohler's office getting all of the work replaced. I have learned my lesson you get what you pay for. Dr Kohler is meticulous and worth every cent. Lesson learned ~ invest in your smile. If you trust your dentist don't go elsewhere ~ it's not worth it. I love his staff too. Irena and Tamara have been with him a long time. I met Dr. Kohler a few months ago and decided to make the switch after having some issues with some recently redone fillings. Turned out the old fillings weren't done very well and I had new cavities under the new fillings.... sweet! He does the most thorough exams I've ever seen. He even uses this cool video/exam camera and then shows you on a large LCD TV what he's doing and why. He has a great pain control system, you barely even notice the needle, so if you're pain-phobic, DDS. Kohler is your guy. A couple of my teeth had some major work (see other reviews) and he's great at making sure you have the best opinions and specialists view your mouth. Simply put, he's more than a tooth doctor. His goal is to have you keep your teeth and to put a great smile on your face. read more

I had two extractions done over a 2 year period. Same exact tooth from each side. One was done by Dr Kohler and one by a previous dentist in a different city. Both teeth were equally decayed and not straightforward extractions. The two experiences could not have been more different. Dr Kohler's thorough attention and calm execution saved me invaluable amounts of time, pain, and money. I've been to countless dentists over my lifetime. My family and I just moved to Wilmette from Chicago and i was in the market for a new dentist, wanted someone local to support my new community's economy. Came across Dr. Kohler on google as his office is walking distance from my house and he has good reviews. I just needed an annual check-up with x-rays and a cleaning. To make a long story short I had probably one of the WORST experiences at a dentist office that I have ever had in my 36 years. Funny thing it had nothing to do with the Dr. or the cleaning itself, but I was yelled at by the office manager. After spending 2.5 hours listening to everything that was wrong with my teeth and the extensive and expensive work I need to get done, I was hit by the surprise that they ARE NOT IN NETWORK (even though I had sent all the information and called ahead of time to confirm)!!! Dr. Kholer and his associate were pleasant and knowledgeable but Heike the office manager was unprofessional, disrespectful and just plain mean. I don't know if she was having a bad day or if it had to do with me being brown when mostly all of her other patients are presumably white, but I have never been treated like this ever!!! She yelled at me saying if I didn't want to pay a $200 deductible I should get better insurance. She lied saying that she had told me their practice is out of network and that "it might say so on the website" (BTW, it doesn't or at least I couldn't find it anywhere). I had to tell her to stop raising her voice, I was in tears, shaking, and couldn't speak because of how upset I was and Dr. Kohler let it happen!!! His office manager was raising her voice to a patient in the middle of the lobby and the only thing he apologized for was the "miscommunication about the insurance coverage". I ended up paying $50 for an exam and cleaning when my insurance would have completely covered it, I got yelled at (that was free, I think) and called my husband crying!!! That was my afternoon at Kholer Dentistry. Would not recommend. read more

A pleasant doctor at the most. I felt that he had a pretty extreme assessment of my teeth, without barely touching them. IN addition, gave a very suggestive "heads up" to the hygenist (sp) as well. He was quick to judge my previous dentist based on xrays forwarded over and was basically assuring me he had the best equipment and my other dentist was outdated (not the case at all). I felt he used a lot of scare tactics to have work done on my teeth. Overall meh. I didn't go through any work with him and won't be going back. read more

I have had the worst experience ever with this Dentistry team. I was given a bill for $930 to have my two children's teeth cleaned and checked and Xrayed (as we were new and obviously naive patients). I was asked to pay upfront which I did and then have been chasing ever since, a month, for them to send the claim to my insurer. We have top dental insurance but I am still $930 out of pocket. The dentist was short, flippant about my sons teeth and generally disorganised. I have since been to a fabulous dentist Dr Eric Lim in Glenview, who checked my sons teeth and gave sealant and a filling and a thorough check and charged $83. What a different experience. Too many dentists happy to take the money and rely on patient apathy. read more

My kids (4 and 5) and I have been going to Dr Kohler for about 2 years now. He is a very thorough and outstanding dentist. His initial consultation will tell you things about your mouth you never knew. The cleanings I have received from his dental hygienist Tamara, is the best I have ever received. One time my wife asked if I had my teeth whitened after when all I got was a cleaning. They have been great with my little ones and they have always gone back to the receive their checkups by themselves. After my kids very first visit, Dr Kohler noticed my little ones had a abnormally small airway and referred us to a unaffiliated specialist. My kids have been experiencing speech problems, hearing issues and breathing problems. We are very thankful he noticed and we have begun treatment at his recommendation with Dr Kevin Boyd. I have also had a couple fillings done with Dr Kohler and they have been top notch with little pain. I highly recommend his practice. read more

This review is long overdue but I promise this is the ONLY review you'll ever need to read! Dr. Kohler is absolutely phenomenal and I can honestly say that after doing research on hundreds of dentists across the United States for weeks before scheduling a visit to see him. In our specific situation we were currently living in Honolulu and had to fly about 10 hours to get to him, and it was beyond worth it. My daughter was 5.5 at the time, now almost six. And she had a cracked molar with deep decay. After seeing many dentists who suggested doing a root canal or even pulling the tooth, he was the only dentist who agreed that we should try to save the tooth by all means before going that route and I literally almost cried. You see, it's not only teeth he treats, he takes his time and treats the patients needs specifically. Prior to this, my daughter had a tooth pulled back in Hawaii and they used regular anesthetics and within 24 hours she had hives all over her legs and they suspected an allergy to locals. We understood going in that this complicated the process with the cause of her allergy not being completely understood, however he was not intimidated by her case AT ALL. He made us feel completely comfortable and trusted his expertise. We had seen a few other dentists before him who promised laser technology for numbing and using it in their practice, but Dr. Kohler was the ONLY dentist who actually used his laser and the way that his website markets. We didn't even have to go this route though. He wound up scrapping the decay of her back molar and used a drill very slowly and proceeded to do a temporary filling with NO anesthetic. She was in no pain and I was SHOCKED at how he calm my daughter. As I mentioned, she is not the best behaved in a dental chair, but he made sure she was. They started the visit by giving her a stuffed animal, his staff went above and beyond what we expected in terms of getting to know and make her feel special and comfortable. They were patient, kind and supportive. He was singing a song to her while he did it and she sat there, mouth wide open in awe. I couldn't of asked for a better experience! And I want to note here, that the front desk staff is also absolutely amazing!! It felt like family. From the time I called they heard our situation, consulted with the dentist, always got back to me extremely quick and made sure we were cared for. I can not recommend this dentist enough!! I never would have guessed a guy like Dr. Kohler would be shady, but he is. He signed me up for Invisalign in October. I asked him repeatedly if there was any option lower than the price point I was paying, since I was only getting five trays (for an extremely minor adjustment). He told me no, and reiterated that there were only two price points to Invisalign per that company (which was out of his hands): the ten-trays-and-under price and ten-trays-and-over price. Well, in a sudden change of life circumstances, my husband got a job across the country and we had to move during the course of my treatment. Finding a new dentist to monitor my Invisalign on the west coast would be no problem . . . if Dr. Kohler had been truthful. After some investigation, it turns out he signed me up for the FIVE tray Invisalign treatment, which he had lied about even existing, charged me for the ten-tray package and pocketed the difference. I called him on this bs and he stumbled a bit, but eventually refunded me close to the difference I paid and was extremely rude about it. I was still out much more money than had he just been forthright with me from the beginning, but I have bigger worries in my life than chasing a few hundreds dollars from this guy. The work he does is okayish but I do NOT recommend him. EDIT - Dr. Kohler's office has responded, but don't believe a word of it. If they were innocent in this deal, they wouldn't have paid me off, would they? read more

Ive been going to Dr. Kohler for a while, but needed the crowns on my two front teeth replaced recently. I knew that he would take the extra care to make sure that the new crowns perfectly matched my whitened teeth. I was right! They are gorgeous! Then I had Dr. Kohler put a veneer on one of my crooked bottom teeth. Now, my bottom teeth are in a straight line (without braces) and look marvelous! Dr. Kohler adds artistry to great dentistry skills! He cares that his patients are happy and so do his dental hygienists. I highly recommend them. read more

So, it's been almost 5 years since my first appointment and the service provided by Dr. Kohler and his staff has yet to disappoint. The team is positive and upbeat no matter the time of day (or year, this has been a rough winter!), and my concerns are always top priority during my visit. I love that this office specializes in pain management. Any twinge of discomfort is met with an immediate stop, a closer look, and resumed only when I'm ready. I've referred quite a few friends and have only had positive feedback. Dr. Kohler even saved me money by adjusting my current night guard. I honestly thought I was going to have to buy another $800 device. Nope! A little filing here and adding material there and boom, good as new (well almost). I have been bring my elementary school son there for 3 years. I have no complain about the regular clean ups. However, the red flag came when he determined that my 7 yr old needed braces and referred us to this related orthodontist of his. He is still missing 2 teeth. All his teeth are straight we lots of gaps. When I asked why, he gave me a most superficial reason. I went to a family friend dentist far away, which happen to be a world renown dentist, had a panaramic xray scan. The verdict is, no need for braces, probably never need it. I am writing this review on behalf of my brother. My brother has been ridden with lots of dental issues. His experience with dentists has been scary, uncomfortable, and at times really a disgrace to the practice of dentistry. We were recently referred to Dr. Kohler. From our 1st meeting with Dr. Kohler and his team were calming, reassuring, and kept us informed all along the way as to the work that they would recommend to save a tooth with major issues that all other clinics and dentists would not invest the time to save. Most dismissed us very quickly. Dr. Kohler not only did not dismiss us, but did quite the opposite. After the first visit, he asked his staff to come in early and spent 3.5 hours working on my brother doing several procedures in one setting to save a tooth. That is what I call #AMAZING. Dr. Kohler is beyond professional, patient, wants to make his patients comfortable, thorough in his explanations, and ensures that you leave fully comfortable and understanding everything that was done at the appointment and how to make sure you are not in pain. We have several more follow-up appointments and I can tell that my brother feels in confident hands. Dr. Kohler has been my dentist for over 12 years and I have never been dissatisfied once. His staff is very personable and knows what they are doing. He always has the highest quality equipment in his office to get the most accurate results in anything he is doing. I moved to the city a few years ago and I still travel to the suburbs, and will continue to. I recently had 2 veneers replace two of my front four teeth and it was the best decision I have ever made. You can't tell the difference between my actual teeth and the veneers. My friends and family can't even tell the difference, and now they all want to do it. I came into Dr Kohler's office to repair a chipped tooth. He first x-rayed the root to make sure it was healthy, and then filled the chip with multiple colors of white to match my other teeth perfectly! As I was leaving, he found out that the patient right after me had cancelled, and so he spent an extra hour showing me my teeth through his microscope. He pointed out problem areas in my mouth and thoroughly explained what could happen if they were left untreated. I have never had such an informative dental exam before Dr Kohler. I went to Dr. Kohler several years ago. I was behind in having my teeth cleaned and really wanted to get that done. First you have to go in for a consult. Not free. He then came up with over $15,000 of work that he recommended be done. And talked me into starting by replacing one of my old fillings. It'd be no big deal, my mouth would look better (it was silver on back upper tooth) and it would be healthier. I said ok. But can I please get my teeth cleaned first? The cleaning seems to be an after thought here. Cleaning went well. (not cheap) Hygentist was good. Went back to have filling replaced. He has all the bells and whistles. Was able to watch procedure on big screen. Well, procedure was more complicated than he thought. It took forever, and exposed my tooth's nerve/root, which he touched with his tools (I thought that was weird). He ran out of time. Had another client. Instructed his assistant to keep working on me! while he went to another patient. In the end the new filling did not feel right. I had pain. And I did not feel right about the whole experience. To make long story short, I went to another dentist for a second opinion and ended up needing a root canal (and everything that comes with that) on that tooth. I would not recommend him unless you are happy to spend thousands of dollars on the perfect smile. And to possibly end up needing additional procedures because of that. read more

I am a practicing physician for over 10 years in Anesthesiology and Critical Care. Dr. Kohler saved my life on a Saturday in January when I had a tooth abscess and was developing some bacteremia (bacteria going into the blood). He came in at several different hours and times during the weekend to help clear the infection, and treat my pain. I was not even an established patient and he took the time and effort needed to help me through this difficult time. Now, he along with his entire staff continue to impress me with their superior skills, kindness and willingness to do whatever it takes to help patients (including my entire family (wife and two seven year old girls, who love him!!!!). Dr. Kohler's competency, compassion and empathy for his patients is incomparable to any other dentist that I have ever been in contact with or have heard about.
