Update!! Our Shaney baby just graduated from his doc band and we are SO grateful for Cranial Technologies. I have to admit, putting a doc band "helmet" for 23 hours a day on a 4 month old baby definitely sounds intimidating to a parent and I absolutely dreaded it (yes, there were even tears) when our pediatrician mentioned getting a consult. Fast forward 2.5 months and our baby boy has a beautifully shaped head! We worked with Jaclyn the entire time and she is an absolute doll. I looked forward to our visits with her! The weekly visits for size checks were quick and easy. Looking back, I can't imagine *not* getting a doc band for our baby. He really did need it and the progress is amazing! I recommend to anyone on the fence - just do it! You will be so happy that you did. We didn't with our oldest son and part of me wishes that we had, but it's too late now! read more

I am so grateful for Cranial Technologies! They are a little pricey if out of network but you get what you pay for. Everyone is so friendly and knowledgeable I was almost sad for the process to be over. Meredith was our clinician and she cared so much about my daughter and her progress! My daughter has very fair skin and they took every red spot seriously and proceeded with caution which never led to any issues. The helmet itself is light weight with as little coverage as possible. Cranial technologies took care of our son in a time that was scary and I knowledgeable for new parents. Our son wore his helmet 24/7 for 4 months from the ages of 4.5months-8.5months and was a candidate for a second helmet. Our technician was honest in saying that with a second helmet it was not a 100% guarantee his head would be perfectly round but more of a cosmetic procedure. When we first started this process almost 10 months ago. I was a wreck. I don't was upset, frustrated, feeling like I had done everything wrong. Even overreacted and was so rude to Lori out clinician. But Lori continued to be professional and caring throughout all my outbursts and tears at the initial evaluation. We proceeded to get my daughter first band which went on around 6.5 months of age. The first band was easy, my daughter barely noticed it on. Lori explained everything very thoroughly and we understood exactly what was expected and the results were just phenomenal it was so crazy. We ended up doing a second band because there was still progress to be made. Throughout the whole process Lori and the entire staff were amazing. They were friendly, caring, and genuinely invested in her progress. I would most definitely recommend Lori as the clinician and Cranial Technologies to anyone with children needing a cranial band. I have to say I was hesitant to book an appointment after hearing that Cranial Tech is basically out for the money and would helmet a basketball. But I trust Phoenix children's hospital and so we went to this location. They knew we were driving 3.5 hours one way just to get the consultation. We were told we should helmet which I figured because my son is severe and we waited for the insurance verification process. To my dismay I got a call saying yesterday that they are out of network and my sons severe numbers fall out of range but I should proceed and then hope that insurance will give us some type of coverage. I would have never spent time off of work, money on gas and put my kids through a long turnaround trip if they had just told me up front they were out of network. They told me that's not something they can do. Yet I called Hangar right after I got off the phone and they were able to tell me right away if they are in network. I wasn't asking for the cost, just not to waste my time with an out of network provider. We have enough bills from my nicu daughter, it would have been nice to have been transparent with us but instead it felt very shady like they don't care and just want the money. the insurance liaison was just rude. 0 stars if I could which is a shame because their office atmosphere was nice and I liked the technology they used to scan my sons head and I was impressed with the doc band but Hangar clinic it is. All I ask is to not waste people's time especially if they are driving so dang far to see you! Not everyone has the option to pay out of network. read more

I absolutely love going here! The staff is super friendly, and they are always reminding me of appointments, and are super understanding when we miss them on accident. They always call to reschedule, and there is always available appointments when I need them. My son's head has shown amazing improvements in just the couple weeks of having his band. We went for the free evaluation as my child needed a cranial helmet. Initially it was a bit hard to find, but we got there, hidden behind the hospital and we've been to PCH several time before. The way they treated me and my child was friendly, but I baby had to wait in it's diaper in a very cold room for over 30 minutes. By that time it was tired and cold. The insurance consultant was going to contact us. Finding out insurance wouldn't cover it, they still would charge us $3500 out of pocket. (Ouch). No wonder they have the fancy, unnessecary calendar each year. One other thing I didn't like about it is the way the do the measurements The pull a stocking (like) cover over baby's head, make him sit between 17 flashing cameras to get the measurements. No they don't have the super, duper fancy office and calendar. Howver, they said, because insurance wouldn't cover it they would `charge us $1500, still out of pocket, but doable. Also the measurements were done so much more friendlier. Baby sat on my lap, the stocking was cut open and they used a hand laser scanner, while some else played with him. One big thing I appreciated about Hanger is when they brought out the flashing toys to disctract baby, they asked if he ever had seizures as those kind of toys can trigger them. I was really disappointed. My son's head looks better but the Admin staff were a nightmare. We showed up late one time and they made us wait over an hour because of it. The next time we showed up, the guy up front said "Oh look, you got coffee this morning and you still made it on time"... Another lady stopped my wife as she was walking out and said in front of all the other patients "Could you please be 15 minutes early from now on"? My wife was so embarrassed she left crying. The technicians were all very nice but I've never experienced an admin staff like that. read more

After being referred to this place by our pediatrician, we scheduled a consultation. Our initial experience from scheduling to intial appointment was effortless and very informative. However, once you enter into the insurance pre-authorization phase is where it gets complicated. The billing department for this business is a disaster, the staff are rude and are not thoroughly educated or versed in how different insurance coverages work. My husband and I placed 3 separate phone calls to the billing department to advise them of how our coverage works and were met with short, irritated staff (one of which may have been working from home as her dog was continuously barking in the background). Cranial Tech is appealing in that their specialty is cranial helmets; however, they are not the only agency in the valley that can assist with helmets. Their lack of customer service at the most important phase of the process has made them a "No-Go" for us. Do yourself a favor and research your insurance coverages and get a second opinion Also, beware that your child may need a second round with the helmet depending on severity. Is this because they remove it prematurely? Or can it be a ploy to pocket additional monies for something that should.stay on longer to begin with? You decide. read more

They don't have any local locations. We were told we needed to come every week then every other week. It was 56 min away with no traffic. Due to that, it was causing us to have to time off work. Each appointment they didn't and could not accommodating days or hours. For us it was really a pain!! Then when we missed a appointment they made us feel like we were crapy parents. My son was constantly having issues with his Doc band in the sense he was having severe sweat burn and irritation. Which ended up needed a prescription to help medicate it. Then was told NOT to use it. Cause it will ruin the band. So we limited the time of wearing to promote healing. Well that also was NOT allowed! In all my son grew out of his helmet. Its is OUR fault we are told. When asked if we could restart the trail ( doc band ) we were RUDLY TOLD if you didn't wear it the 1st time why would you wear it a second time!! It's freaking 110 in the summer my son was having a rough time with the wear of the band. Not one person told me or my husband if we didn't wear the Doc band 24 hours a day he would grow out of it! Only it would not help the needing of progression. I am one very upset parent!! So, my son was KICKED off the program. Parents make sure your Tech explains EVERYTHING to you. We were recommended to Cranial Tech by my pediatrician. As a new mom of twins I was extremely nervous and apprehensive. Upon my first visit the staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. At the first consultation they took pictures using a stocking cap with an open area for my son's face. They reviewed the photos with us in detail and gave us plenty of information to read later. We were made aware that it could be a cost to us as many insurance companies do not cover it. When we decided to move forward, the billing staff was in constant contact and moved very fast in submitting paperwork to our insurance company. To our surprise it was covered in full by our insurance. This was an absolute relief. We had weekly visits to their office being my son was so young. I could not be happier with their technicians. Theresa was always smiling and so gentle and friendly with my son. He smiled and laughed joyfully every time he saw her. We continued the treatment for 9 weeks and saw such an improvement. My son's head looks perfectly round and symmetrical. We even see an improvement with the placement if his facial features. He has officially graduated today! I would recommend their office to anyone! As a side note, we used the Wrap Shoppe in North Phoenix to decorate the DOC band. They do this for free and are amazing! (They do take breakfast and lunch donations. ) read more

But they don't hold well to their appointment times, arrived 15 minutes early to our appointment and want seen till 30 minutes after the scheduled time, after 3 people who were scheduled after us went (we were the first appointment after their lunch). Workers seem a little know it all-ish, and treats the parents like their idiots. $2280 for this seems a bit much. read more

The clinicians at this location are wonderful. Very knowledgable. You can tell they have a lot of experience in what they are doing. We love Barb and Theresa. They take the time to answer questions and square everything away with insurance. Our insurance did not cover much, but it has been completely worth the cost. We are half way through our DOC Band therapy and I can already see great results in my child (even though she had a very mild condition). Treatment seemed expensive, but it has been completely worth the cost. Dealing with cranial technologies has been delightful. Putting a helmet on your child can be very scary for a new mom, and we have had zero extra headaches with this company. Thank you cranial technologies! Also, my five-month-old daughter loves coming here because they have fun toys and padded tummy time time benches. I am so thankful we found them and my daughter's head is looking great. read more

AWFUL experience with Charlotte office. Band was not made correctly. I expressed concerns 2 times in person and 1 time on the phone. Was told it was supposed to move some. After my 3rd in office visit with a different person I was told they needed to remake it because it was not a good fit. AWFUL AWFUL experience. Offered a refund which I am STILL waiting on. Last appt was 7/30/12, was told refund would be mailed on 8/6.....Told on 8/17 after I requested information on my refund that it was mailed on 8/17. Hopefully I will get it.... read more

After the evaluation I got a phone call two days later. The lady informed me that my sons helmet would be covered and that I already met my total out of pocket for the year. She said that she was submitting an insurance authorization and just needed that to go through before we could schedule. I called my insurance case manager to make sure she could approve the authorization and she told me a helmet is not part of my plan. I called Cranial Technologies and asked to speak to a supervisor. I wasn't complaining, I was simply informing her of what happened. I told her that her employee told me I would be covered when I wasn't going to be. so she could use it as a training exercise for her employees. She was extremely rude and told me I don't know how insurance works. I let her know that her employee shouldn't have said I would be covered since my out of pocket was met. This is misleading information that I did't want to happen to other people. She wouldn't listen to me and said her employees would never say that. I was disappointed that she didn't care enough to listen to her customers. I decided that with this experience there is no way I would give them my business. Great office staff and very friendly doctor. My sons head was flat and is looking wonderful a month into treatment!

Right around 5 weeks I started to notice a flat spot forming on our LO, my husband however thought I was crazy. I had been going to PT as I developed pregnancy induced CT and mentioned it to my therapist, who gave me some helpful tips on at home stretches. The flat spot continued to get worse; therefore, at his 8 MO well baby I brought it up to his pediatrician who confirmed plagiocephaly and referred us to a pediatric PT. The following week, our son was evaluated and found to have not only plagiocephaly but also brachiocephaly; both were believed to be a result of in utero torticollis. Given the severity, she did not believe his head shape and ear shift would resolve with PT alone; even though his pediatrician recommended waiting until 6 months, his PT thought no harm in looking into this sooner. Stretches and PT continued but we were proactive and scheduled a consultation with Cranial Tech at 3.5 MOs. As a parent who has worked in the medical industry for more than 15 years, including billing, I did my homework; I contacted Cranial Tech to obtain the CPT/ICD-9/10 codes, called my insurance company to determine what our responsibility would be based on such codes and inquired to anything further related to prior authorization etc. Our consultation roles around, a few days later a report is received confirming the severity of his "flat spots" and we are given the choice to proceed; my husband and I agreed, absolutely let's be aggressive and start treatment ASAP. With this being said, the billing department submitted all of the necessary information to my insurance company to obtain prior authorization. About a week later, we receive a call from a representative in the billing department who was very thorough and walked us through what we thought was everything; plus, we had already done our homework so there should be no surprises, until he outgrew his band and needed a second one! Our son received his first doc band shortly before the Thanksgiving holiday and was about to outgrow it right before the end of the year. His clinician, Barb, was great throughout his entire treatment; even towards the end when we all thought the chances he would need a second band were high, we were proactive and ready to initiate the process (i.e. images, eval, and obtain prior authorization) before the end of the year so that we wouldn't have to pay the deductible/OOP again. Unfortunately, after much back and forth, the billing department at Cranial Tech informed us that our insurance company is the only company which requires your child be in a doc band for 8 weeks/2 months before s/he can be evaluated for a second band. Go figure, it is the end of 2015 and our child had only been in a band for ~6 weeks. My quam with Cranial Tech is that they knowingly admitted after the fact that our insurance company is the only one that they have seen with this requirement; if that is the case then, why not give us all of the necessary information before we pulled the trigger allowing us to make an educated decision given our situation? We understand that they would never recommend delaying treatment and the sooner you begin the better but at least if we were given that information then, we could've decided if we want to take that chance now or wait until January. As I mentioned, we did our due diligence and went into it completely aware of our responsibility, not a problem, but now our son needs a second band and we don't have the means to come up with the $ for another deductible/OOP just 10 weeks after paying for the first one. Cranial Tech failed to properly educate us as parents, considering they were aware of this one off with our insurance company is very frustrating. This is not a typical question to ask your insurance company, "what if our child needs a second band, do you have any strange requirements". Of course we know that when a new year roles around your deductible starts over; however, our son could've been fitted for a second band in the same year and thus, the need to pay additional funds OOP would've been moot. I will say that the original clinician (don't recall her name) who conducted our consultation did not elude to a possibility of him outgrowing his band in less than 6 weeks either. Ultimately, I would not recommend Cranial Tech to other parents; their prices are more than double their other local competitor and it is the same thing. In addition, they don't proactively provide you with information unless you ask for it. The only positive thing about the experience was his clinician, Barb. His head shape is definitely better but his ear shift is still very pronounced and he could definitely benefit from a second band, just wish we had the means to do right by our son. read more
