Raleigh staple! I frequent this brewery for their Tuesday run club. They have fairly accessible parking in the area, fabulous outside and inside seating year round, clean bathrooms, and very friendly staff. As someone who doesn't love beer, I can't speak to their beer selection. But they have a few cider options, which are always fabulous. I would love to see more non-alcoholic options, like kombucha or even sodas. But will definitely return! read more

Walked in here and grabbed a seat at the bar on a Friday night. First ordered a flight which comes with five beers. We got confused on which way we were supposed to go around the wheel but finally figured it out based on taste and color. However, I think one of our beers was wrong as it was supposed to be a hazy wheat and it was clear and did not taste like a wheat. Anyway, after the flight I ordered a pint of Fresh Baked Biker. It was a truly delicious blueberry sour. One thing I really like about Crank Arm is that all the menus have prices, sizes, and ABVs clearly listed. The place also has a nice vibe with all the bike decor and art. Bathrooms are clean. A gorgeous fire was burning outside in the fire pit on a very cold night. Free two hour street parking is available since it's the south part of downtown. read more

So I was a first time visitor. The one knock is parking will not be easy most of the time, certainly not in terms of getting a free space. But I liked the overall vibe with the bicycles and I certainly like that it's dog friendly. The staff was super cool and I enjoyed the beer, especially the Road Hazard. Crank Arm is an exceptional Brew tasting experience.  They don't do flights but they will let you taste as many as you like and I did just that. There is outside seating and the inside is so cool.  It is like a modern art exhibit with a biking theme. The BEER: Bottom Bracket Belgian Amber 5.6% ABV ... this is a solid Belgian and very delicious Cycle Killer sour pineapple and habanero 4.4% ABV ... this is FIRE both with flavor and hot. Trail Bandit peanut butter chocolate milk stout 6.4% ABV...  This is a HIT.  If you like delicious stouts you will   love this. Holy Smokes smoked porter with habernaro, cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon 5.8% ABV... this one is tricky.  It is savory with the heat at the end. Trail Wizard hazy DIPA 8.7%... this one is absolutely wonderful.  FiRE!!! West Coaster Brake IPA 7.2% IPA... I recommend this Road Hazard hazy IPA 6.2% ABV ... juicy and delicious My beertender Becky was awesome.  When I am back in Raleigh I will definitely stop through.  Hopefully by then they will be doing flights. read more

This is a pretty cool brewery with it's vibe all about gears and wheels and other parts that make up a bicycle. It's a fun theme and cool to see bikes hanging from the ceiling. I ended up getting the "Tour Limond" and liked the hint of lemon. It's aged in apple brandy barrels and has a pretty distinct character that is bold yet not too overwhelming. Their beer menu has a whole bunch of bike-themed puns so I'm sure you'll find something that will grease your chain. Did I do that right? read more

I've been to Crank Arm a bunch of times, and have always had a great time. The staff is really nice, they have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and they are dog friendly. They have a Shrute Farms beet flavored beer, and I was interested based on the name but not sure about the flavor. They let me try it, and I ended up liking it and getting a glass. Other people I've been with have also asked to taste, and Crank Arm always is happy to do it. They also have non-beer drinks, Tri-Bucha kombucha, some wine and cocktails. There are a lot of board games, if you wanna play a game and hang out. The location is also really enjoyable for sitting and enjoying being outdoors. I would add that parking nearby can sometimes be hard to find on a weekend night, so keep that in mind! read more

We stopped here while trying to kill some time before a flight out of Raleigh. I loved this neighborhood and area of town, lots of shops, bars, and restaurants. Easy to walk around and stop in a few different places. Great beer options! We did the two beer flights so we got to try 10 different beers; sours, lagers, etc. It was a great way to sample the whole menu and it was only $10 per flight. There isn't really much food options here. They sell some bags of chips and they do have free popcorn. They let you bring in outside food, which is nice. It's so light and refreshing for summer, and not overly sour. This spot is a short walk to Red Hat Amphitheater, so it's a great place to grab a drink and hang out before a show! The amount of head was excessive and made it more like a 12oz pour. We essentially paid $7 for a 12oz pour. When we VERY politely and respectfully asked the bartender to top it off, he rolled his eyes and didn't accommodate. Actually went to say that it is supposed to be like that. A 2in head...uh, no. He was beyond rude. We, along with our friends, would have easily spent over $100 that day, but now we will never spend another cent in this establishment. I got the tiki time trial sour and skid lid sour which were both very good. They also do flights if you want to try multiple beers. On a Sunday afternoon it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. What an awesome place to come hang out and enjoy some craft beer. We walked in and was immediately greeted by the staff and just sit wherever no assigned seats here lol! The decor is pretty neat with bicycles hanging and not only that you'll find games to play as well such as connect 4 etc. I suggest doing a flight this way you are sure to experience more and perhaps a friend can as well and share. There was a taco stand right out front which was omg delicious so you can grab that or even call to have something delivered there such as pizza. They don't serve food. It's certainly a lively place and affordable. We came here before going to the Red Hat Amphitheater to see Simply Stupid trust me come here before going to a concert you'll be thankful you did if you wish to save by having a few good craft beers here affordable prior to going pay 11+ bucks at the concert for one beer! read more

While we were in Raleigh, we decided to meet a friend who lived in town. He recommended that we meet at this place, and since we're always looking for good breweries, we thought this was a fantastic idea. So this is a cool place. We are cyclists ourselves, so seeing a cyclist-oriented brewery was pretty awesome. It's also dog friendly! At first we thought it was only outside for dogs, but then we realized we could bring them inside as well, which was great, since we had one big greyhound and one less big dachshund. :) So, this place was pretty chill when we first got here, but then a TON of people showed up, and it got really loud, the kind of loud where you almost have to start shouting at one another to have a conversation, which was a little less cool for just hanging out. The beers are really great - a lot of different options. I went with the coconut creamcycle. I'm used to getting coconut in a stout, so it was cool to have it in a hefeweizen. So, other than the loudness of the place, we really liked it here, y'all are lucky to have a place like this in Raleigh! read more

The menu was a dream for me, with the various IPA options. My husband not so much, because he is into the opposite (whatever that means). Luckily the bartender was happy to answer our endless stream of questions. He let us sample one before we ordered our second round and decipher which we'd be best suited towards. By the end of the night we had a new friend in him and I wish I could remember his name. We were winding down my cousin's birthday bar crawl and we decided to stop in before heading back. Mind you, three of us left the group and decided on our own to stop in, but that's neither here nor there. At first glance, Crank Arm looks like a repair shop that's been converted to serve beer. It's one of those hipster places, complete with board games, random things like bicycles hanging from the ceiling and all kinds of other stuff. They offer seating both inside and out, and since it was super-hot that evening we opted to hang outside. Service is pretty fast, but we only ordered beers. I honestly don't remember if they offered food since I wasn't remotely hungry. Crank Arm's vibe is laid-back, something everyone can get behind. With a big group this can be a fun experience. Crank arm is a cute spot. Its nothing spectacular. It has a comforting "basic" feel with a splash of "creative". They have a decent selection of beers and the bartenders are usually pretty willing to help you decide or let you taste a sample of one before you buy if your not super versed in the beer world. The outdoor seating is cozy, and the bike touch/inhouse brewery give it just enough 'flavor' to be inviting. I would not plan a trip here with friends. It's more of a 'I'm in the area....why not get some beer' kinda place. Their biggest advantage in my opinion is location. They are very close to red hat amphitheatre and there are no other breweries/bars nearby that can compete on their own. There are several restaurants/barcade/lounges and a wine bar. That's about it. So if you are in the area, definitely pop in and grab a refreshing beer.....but don't make a final destination if your looking for a fun night out....you could probably swing a low key night here and enjoy. read more
