3 floors of Crate & Barrel goodness! Yes, some of the furniture is a little pricey. Yes, the parking lot on weekends may induce a little (or a lot) of rage. BUT, the staff is helpful and friendly, and there is SO MUCH STUFF. The loading dock area is pretty nice too, for when you are buying items that can fit in your car, but are maybe too large to carry out the doors by yourself. Back up your car, ring the bell, and show them your receipt. They'll help you get everything loaded into your car and off you go! Super easy. read more

I love this Crate & Barrel for providing me with the most comfortable chair ever. It makes it really hard for me to leave the house though :) The salespeople at this location are so helpful, and I think the selection is at least as good here as on Michigan Avenue, without all the slow moving tourists (not to be mean, tourists are slow no matter what city you go to, I'm sure I am annoying when I travel :)). I received my chair in a matter of maybe a week and a half, they actually had a Saturday delivery open that quickly, and they were very accomodating with my buildings scheduling issues for the loading dock- they made sure they scheduled it for a time when I could get them in, rather than give me the standard 4-8 hour window that lots of other places will give you Its also nice that there is a big parking lot right there- although at times it can be difficult to get a spot (I can't even say its a weekend thing, because I've gone on some weekends where there seemed to be plenty of parking and others when I could just not get a spot). If you do get a spot though, its so nice after shopping to not either have to lug your purchases all the way home or find a cab in the Michigan Avenue madness. A lot of Crate & Barrel invetory runs too stark and modern for my tastes, but a lot of it is really pretty, and they have great stemware, vases, and other things like that. I know a general review of Crate & Barrel isn't particularly helpful but I really have had great experiences on multiple occasions with their service and flexibility on delivery dates. And a $70 delivery charge no matter how much crap you've ordered seems more than reasonable! Everyone I talk to on the phone is extremely pleasant! read more

We attended a registry event, where they closed the store down for engaged couples. Although they served the weakest mimosas I've ever tasted, I appreciated them nonetheless. Upon finishing, we were told that we had to print a copy of our list. I declined as I don't care to waste paper. Apparently, that is not an option at C&B. To get your registry into their system, you have to print a copy. Lame, but true. I had only one shower with less than 20 guests. I received three duplicates. Although I laughed it off at the shower, I was a little annoyed. When I went to return the duplicates, I was told that there system doesn't instantly update. We had many returns after the wedding. Luckily, the company has a great return policy of giving cash for all returns, not credit, along as you have a receipt. If the amount is over $300, C&B mails you a check back in 10 business days. We were able to cash the check without a problem. We received MANY gift certificates to this store. Sadly, we haven't been able to use them as we are waiting to move before we buy any furniture. I'm not sure if I would register there again only because the other two registries were so much easier. read more

By far the worst retail experience I have had in quite a while. I came I into the store to purchase an item the stores websites lists this location as having 6 of. After wandering around the disorganized store trying my best to find where the product could possibly be located I tried to find an available employee to help. I tried making eye contact waving every thing I possibly could and was ignored. I finally had to stand in a check out line to finally ask an employee to help me. This person radios to the stock room to see if the product is available. After waiting for 10 minutes we find out that it's not. I understand the occasional variance with something but being off by 6 of an item? What's the point of an inventory system at that point? I left the store with a more expensive, subpar but similar product than I originally wanted. I won't even go into the headache it was to check out finally. I wouldn't have even made a purchase if I had not been in a pickle. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead and get yourself order online from some place else. read more

Turned-off by the disrespectful and condescending tone that a manager (Meagan) used towards one of her salespeople. Several other customers seemed uncomfortable as well and I felt bad for the salesperson. This store seems to be very high maintenance and many of the employees look stressed and unhappy. The constant clatter of walkie-talkie conversations were so aggravating! Nice selection of housewares that one could get at Target or Macy's with far le$$ drama. Furniture is decent but overpriced considering that it's not made with traditional quality furniture building techniques. Room & Board offers the same look, but a made locally and with better quality. Floral shop is nice. In no hurry to return. read more

I've been here numerous times, but I have to say the last two times have been great. I had to get gifts for a 2 weddings and a house warming. One wedding was registered there and the sales staff helped me find what I was looking for. Now for the other two, I had some ideas but needed some help refining them. Basically a woman's input. Again friendly staff gave suggestions, politely steered me away from some more masculine selections and showed me some ideas and backed their opinions up as to why they thought they were a better choice. It sold me! Although be careful on the weekends, it can get nasty and slammed as well as a traffic nightmare, but rarely have I ever had a problem during the week. read more

This one's special cause it has it's own FLORAL SHOP which is managed by 2 employees who do all the buying and handle the maintenance 7 days a week. Everything's imported (ex. all the roses come from columbia etc...) and unique so it costs a lil bit more than the usual hole in the wall florist pickins... but it's all so beautiful... It kinda blows me away every time I walk through that department! read more

I've always loved everything at Crate and Barrel and thought to myself, "At these prices, the customer service must be amazing too!" Unfortunately, I was mistaken. I put in an order for a table and bench on the 4th of July, and was told that it was sitting in a trailer at the warehouse and just needed to be taken off, so it should be delivered around mid-July, and that I would get a call within the next week with an update. I didn't get the call, so I decided I'd check in. The associate said she wasn't sure where I heard about it sitting on the trailer, but that there was nothing that she could tell me and that they couldn't call the warehouse or do anything to speed up the process. Another associate said that she would have a manager call me within 24-48 hours to discuss my order, but surprise, I still didn't get a call later. I called back again yesterday and now the status of my order has been changed to August (thanks for notifying me!). For the pricing they charge, you'd expect much better service. read more

I've had really wishy-washy experience with the staff here in the past in regards to our wedding registry and the post-wedding returns, but chalked it up that wedding registries can be annoying and the returns, gift cards, coupons, etc can lead to complicated sales transactions. However, after the experience I had at this store this afternoon while I was trying to complete our wedding registry with the gift cards we received, I wanted to share my experience to help save other newlyweds the grief. The store had mild holiday shopping traffic, but it wasn't packed by any means as I was shopping while the Chicago Bears game was on. It took me a bit of time to get an associate who could pull the appliances and knives from the stock room that I wanted to purchase. Most sales associates were assigned to serving samples of coffee and couldn't help customers trying to make purchases or at least that's what I was told by the two I asked; there were ample employees working, but not enough employees "assigned" to retrieving items from the stock room. This was very frustrating to be asking for help, to see employees standing at registers where there were no customers or employees offering coffee samples, but no one wanting to help retrieve the hundreds of dollars worth of merchandise I was trying to buy. Once I did find an associate who was able to pull the items, I waited 15 minutes for her to go to the stock room. When I circled back with her, she had spent those 15 minutes helping other customers at a register, had not gotten my items, and finally called on her walkie to have the appliances and knife set brought up. At this point, I've been standing there for about 25 minutes since the initial interaction asking the associate to get the items I wanted to purchase. The items were finally brought up - and to my surprise they had a few things in store that the website said were out of stock when I checked online before getting there. I put the rest of my pile onto the register counter expecting at this point to be rung up (as there was no line), the associate who was "helping" me turned her back to me and started helping another customer who has approached her and a second associate began to use the register to ring up a different customer buying a few candles. I decided to walk out and make my $600 purchase online so the store didn't get the credit for the sale. When we came here a few weeks ago to do our big post-wedding returns, we were met with a similarly frustrating experience. The sales associate who did the return told us to shop around and she'd come find us when she was done. She never found us, so about 30 minutes later we went back to the register and had to wait in line to complete our return. EXCEPT, at this point they were helping another couple do their wedding returns on the register that our return was saved to, so we had to wait for their huge return to be complete before we could get our merchandise credit. The only plus is to this location is there's a free parking lot, while the other C&B's in Chicago aren't as parking-friendly. There's enough C&B's in Chicagoland, don't waste time your with this one if you're looking to do wedding registry stuff, big purchases, or transactions that require assistance from their sales associates. Their level of service really left a bad taste in my mouth and there's no need for me to waste my time at this location again. read more

Update re: delivery. There is a $35 fee for any re-schedules. I recently had to rearrange a delivery date due to my building's strict policy re: elevator use and weekend furniture delivery. I'm thankful for the woman at customer service who waived the fee for me on reasons mentioned earlier. The moving guys arrived about five minutes early and took about ten minutes to carefully move the assembled dresser in my room. They even placed the felt pads (that I provided) on the legs before setting it down in its location. read more

The service here can be hit or miss. My husband and I went in on a Friday evening about 20 min. before they closed, and it was obvious that the employees were basically waiting to get out of there. We just wanted to see a specific product in person and get some info on it, and when I went to the the register where two girls were standing watching paint dry, they literally both looked at each other and said, do you want to take this? Nice, ladies, thank you. I really want to spend a lot of money in your store right about now. It literally took two other employees to join them to answer our fairly simple questions. We went back on the following Sunday to actually purchase the item. The girl who helped us that time was really nice and actually knew what she was doing. Phew. We had to go to the loading dock to pick up the item, which was fine, but I'm wondering if Crate and Barrel has ever heard of ramps. I'm guessing not. You literally have to drive over the curb to get into the loading dock area. Waited a bit, got our item and went on our merry way. Then we got home and started assembling said product when alas, we realized they gave us one of the wrong boxes. So my husband had the pleasure of going back to the store and repeating the process. The girl on the phone was apologetic which is nice and all, but they need to get it together. read more

After buying a couch for almost 3000$ we called to reschedule the delivery day, which we were told at the moment of the purchase we could do, and the lady on the phone was very sarcastic and not helpful at all, saying that they couldn't change the delivery day just because we thought our delivery was more important than others. ??? This place is a disaster. I placed an order online and selected in-store pick-up. I went to this location 4 days after the order was submitted and waited 40 minutes for them to "package it up". They also informed me that they didn't have one item - a shower curtain. We spent a good 20 minutes waiting for them to "go back and look again" and to go back through the bags they had given us. Ultimately, they canceled that item in my order. 15 minutes after I left the store, they called back to inform me that they had found the shower curtain and I could come back for it. I had to re-buy the item and spent another 25 minutes on the phone with customer service a few days later trying to get a refund for the one they canceled (refund didn't automatically go through). Crate & Barrel is the place to go when you are looking to furnish your home. They have a wide variety of everything- from dinnerware and glasses- to media storage units and couches that you can end up going crazy in the store and spending a fortune. The only problem I have with Crate & Barrel is that the past few times I went there - I wanted to buy a rug that I had seen a month before, and the pattern was discontinued and they no longer carry it! Then the same thing happened with a couch I wanted that I saw in their most recent catalog. They were more than accomodating though to look it up in the system and find it in the warehouse, but I wasn't able to see it before buying it - I mean, who buys a couch without seeing it first! read more

They would not accept our VISA gift card, even though we called the visa people and they talked to the crate and barrel people and said it was accepted anywhere visa was accepted...and c&b accepts visa. I really wanted the piece, so I bought it anyway, but then when we got it home, the instructions on the china cabinet were poorly written and the bottom piece was chipped. They did offer to order us a new one if we disassembled it and brought it back, but still. That's lame. read more

Crate and Barrel has the worst customer service I've ever encountered. They are owned by Otto, a German company, and I can't get them to answer the phone, or answer my emails. My daughter sent me some dishes for my birthday, and I returned some of them to exchange them for a different color. I have a receipt showing they received them, but C & B never sent the new items. Now, when I call, they place me on hold for 30 minutes or so, and then someone who knows nothing tries to find the order. There seems to be no one in charge. One person transfers me to another, and eventually I get disconnected. In the meantime, the order has been paid for, but I don't have it. It's been a month. read more

These people have never processed a furniture order before. After placing my order for a sofa and ottoman, I get a phone call telling me a sample swatch is being sent "next day" for my approval. That was on a Thursday. On Friday I get an email demanding that I call them. I call and told I'll have to wait "eight minutes and 40 seconds". Such precision. After waiting 15 minutes, I hang up. Get a call on Saturday and told the sample may not arrive until "Monday or Tuesday". This is "next day" to C&B. On top of a 9 week lead time, this is too much. I tell the woman I want to simply cancel the order. She gets real snotty.."it's only been two days". Actually, on my calendar, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday is six days....just to approve a sample.....which I did when I ordered. read more

This particular store stinks. I bought a Marimekko Samovari Wave King Comforter there. I subsequently washed it once in a large capacity front loading washer and the thing fell apart. I have purchased thousands of dollars of merchandise and now, your store is haggling with me over a lousy $100! Really? You suck! Give me the damn pickle! Incidentally, the "thousands of dollars of items" I purchased, I have seen at IKEA and Target. They are just like CB. Made in China or some other far flung sweatshop and cost 75% less. The employees are always so helpful and friendly. They have a great selection of kitchen items, dining room, outdoor items, really everything you could want. A woman helped us get the gun thingie and showed us how to use it. However, there was no explanation as to how the store was divided and when we asked questions about products, the sales staff didn't know the answers. They told us to look at the card with the product details on it. Because of this, we mostly registered for simple stuff and decor. We decided to save the big ticket items, like pots and pans and knives for a store whose staff could actually explain to us the pros and cons of different brands. Overall though it was a really fun experience. Also, updating your registery online is really easy. read more

We didn't know before we decided to register here, but they have an amazing private registry party for all of their engaged couples. We got to go to the store before it opened and pick out everything we loved in person. We love the class, style, and quality of the products we received. The only request we have is that the registry would have a "mark as purchased" option for guests. This created a few situations where an aunt or cousin bought an item but didn't buy it through the registry and then could not mark it as purchased and we received a duplicate from another guest who thought it had not yet been purchased. Thankfully, their return and exchange policy is excellent and easy for when you end up with 2 bath mats. read more

Happiness is shopping at Crate & Barrel. I could (okay, I do) spend hours and many a paycheck here, stocking my kitchen and soon, patio, full of essentials. I never leave empty handed (darn you C&B with your ever-changing inventory) and I'm checking into Serving Platter Addicts Anonymous (and will be bringing a lovely platter of cookies to my first meeting). I love the size of this location compared to its monstrous Michigan Ave. counterpart, the friendly and plentiful staff and the close proximity to CB2 and Crate & Barrel Outlet. Fresh cut flowers are available; I however only smell them. Can't reason spending $9 per stem on a peony no matter how much I love them. read more

I normally do not shop at Crate and Barrel. I think they have quality furniture and great service, but I just do not frequent it. Anyhow, I needed a grater and could not find it at three different stores. Luckily, I stopped in at Crate and Barrel on North and Clybourn and had a great experience. Mario was very helpful at helping me find the grater I was looking for. Michele was excellent at ringing me up pretty quickly. I will visit again for sure. read more

We went in to pick up a few things for the new place. After much searching, it was determined an outdoor table and chairs were on back order. Okay, but they could be delivered the following week, with no charge because they were back ordered. We applied for the Crate & Barrel credit card for 10% off, however between that and the back ordering, it was 45 minutes into the purchasing experience. As we approached an hour, we really were running out of time to make an appointment and hurried out the door. As we drove away, my wife noticed both the wrong apartment number (repeated 4x to the sales person) and a $90 delivery charge. A call to the store corrected the apartment number, but no apology or refund of the delivery charge. Really poor customer service all around. I will take a little pleasure in cancelling my new C&B credit card as soon as I get it, not that they will care. read more

Was welcomed a smile and warm greeting when I walked in. Shirley was so kind and became so helpful. After printing a registry, she showed to the item I wanted with no hesitation. After seeing some scratches on the items, she called stock for some off the floor items. I asked for an item to give the charger plates. She simply knew exactly what to give...serving pieces in sterling silver that would match. She wrapped and even gave me brochures and a catalog on the way out. All served with a smile. I love crate and barrell and all the items in it. This review is based on the service I have received, or should I say, NOT received every single time I have been there. I have been here a few times already usually on my day off when I am not dressed up but rather my yoga clothes. NO ONE in there bothers to look up or say hi. They pass me by, sometimes bump into me and not a word or offer for help. I only go when I need something and am ready to buy but sadly end up ordering online since the staff there does not offer. Sadly, I made the mistake of having my order sent there for pick up and to my dismay, the service upon pick up was just as bad. No one in the store bothered to say hi until I approached the register for my pick up request. It took 30 full minutes for the back room and front to get the order located and on top of that, they did not even bother bringing out. Instead all this time was spent on getting dimensions and my being told it wouldn't fit in my car without even checking. I walked out frustrated and empty handed again due to the lack of service and never seeing the item I ordered. I'd rather make the drive to Old Orchard for MUCH better service than come to this one. read more
