I never thought in a million years I would write a review of Crate & Barrel .... until I came here with my mom last night and they relieved almost all of my holiday stress! I was shopping for my uncle and his partner who I don't know very well, but the staff was very friendly as multiple people stopped to ask us if we needed assistence. There was a staff member walking around giving out yummy chocolates too! Once I found my gifts, Kevin rang me up. He told me about Crate & Barrel's shipping for just 4.95 - um, yes please! Not only that, they have free gift wrapping in store. All I had to do was give Kevin the shipping information and carrying the boxes to the gift wrapping station. SO easy! (Sidenote: While we were checking out, a guy accidentally knocked into something glass and it shatterd on the floor. All of the salespeople assured him not to worry about it and that it happened all the time. They made every shopper's worst nightmare into something that didn't matter at all!) I found out yesterday that the best time to get here on a Saturday is 10am. Not long after that, the parking lot becomes an absolute zoo. Even old people will stop just short of ramming your car to get into a spot first. Nevertheless, the store is filled with helpful salespeople and an outstanding selection and inventory. The layout can be a bit difficult though- if you're looking for, say, teacups, they could be found in about 4 or 5 different places. They sell really nice flowers here, which seems to be a bit outside of their original mission of selling items that were shipped in crates and barrels, but it's easy to forgive. The furniture is really classy stuff that I wish I could afford. A coffee shop on the top floor firmly extends a middle finger to Ikea, singing, "I can do anything you can do, better!" read more

Admittedly, it feels a bit strange writing a review for a huge chain like Crate & Barrel, but I feel compelled to share my awesome experience at this location with others. My girlfriend and I recently moved and were in the market for a new couch... something stylish, comfortable, and affordable - three levers which seem to never be in balance when shopping for furniture. After a month of shopping around, it became apparent to us that our best course of action would be to splurge on something we'd love sitting on for years to come. We ultimately decided that Crate and Barrel's Verano sofa was the one. We stopped in to the North Ave. C&B location on a weeknight to check the couch out in person. An associate named George immediately offered us courteous service without being pushy at all... in fact, all he initially set out to do was answer any questions we had about the sofa. He was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about everything from the construction of the sofa, to the fabric types and options. He detailed the options for fabric guard and delivery, and was even upfront with us about the risk of the couch not being able to fit into some apartment doorways upon delivery. Then, he started going above and beyond, again, without being pushy. He mentioned that C&B offers 10% off to those who have recently moved and offered to get the ball rolling on that discount for us if we were interested. He also informed me that there was a C&B credit card promotion happening at the time which offered 12- months no interest. At that moment, we knew that not only had we found the couch we were looking for, but had also found an associate who was actually helping us purchase this couch with ease. We waited a few days to actually purchase the couch, since we wanted to measure the doorways of our new place first to ensure it would fit upon delivery. When we went back to C&B to actually make the purchase, George was not there. Another associate assisted us with the purchase, but gave George the credit for the sale on the sales slip, which I was happy to see since it's likely that we wouldn't have purchased so soon without his help. Fast forward a few days, George called me to follow-up, thank me for the purchase, and schedule the delivery, which was a piece of cake. The couch arrived right on time and in perfect condition. The lead deliverer, Enrique, was friendly and mindful of our stairwell walls, which had literally just been painted. They were in and out of our 3rd floor unit in 10 minutes flat. I really can't say enough good things about our experience at this Crate and Barrel. This level of customer service is something I rarely encounter today. Yes, Crate and Barrel is expensive. However, if you're looking to make an investment in a well-made piece of furniture for your home in a no-pressure sales environment with impeccable customer service, I strongly suggest that you pay George a visit at the Crate and Barrel store on North Ave. read more

I live in the south suburbs and the closest Crate & Barrel is the Oak Brook location. I do love Crate & Barrel in general, but the North Ave location is my favorite set up. You can easily spend hours just looking around. The customer service is definitely half and half. half are welcoming, friendly, and very helpful, but then the other half just stand by and do not offer their help, say hello, or even acknowledge you're standing there. "Here comes the bride... she's registered at C&B...." Fiance and I participated in Crate & Barrel's new bridal registry event a few weeks ago and what good times for us both! Sippin' on wine and beer, snackin' on restaurant goodies, and shopping for anything our little hearts desired! A staff member walked our group of three couples through the store on a helpful tour to explain seasonal items, china functions and explained that it's A-Okay to register for the pricier goodies (hell-o multi-functional bar!). Once the tour was over we got our drink on and our snack on at two different stations throughout the store while scanning and updating our registries at the four registry kiosks. It was easy to update a few days later when I went back to the store to remove that garish lamp that someone in my two-person party picked out, tee hee. We were able to register for plenty of must-haves, like everyday china, all our stemware needs, baking supplies, knives, napkins and other linens, even sushi and Asian fare dining utensils (ok those were a 'want', not a 'need'). I can't wait to see all the goodies I rack up from my registry here. Very useful event and highly recommend! read more

I've been a C&B girl for a long time (even having worked there for a stint), but I especially love this location. The fresh flowers on the first floor just make it. I have always admired how they have the most gorgeous in-season selections, and I even used them for my wedding flowers. I was able to get: my bouquet 2 flower girl bouquets a boutonnière for the groom corsages for each mom ceremony flowers for aisle chairs arrangement to place next to guest book all this for under $300. Gorgeous and perfect, all of it. You must be kidding me if you are shopping for flowers anywhere else. read more

I've always loved the convenience, service and style of CB, so with our wedding approaching it was a given that my Fiance and I would register for gifts there. Recently, I got a lovely phone call to inform me that someone had (very generously) purchased us the dining room table that we requested. We scheduled a delivery time on a Sunday (how convenient!), and waited for our new arrival. When the scheduled time came, we were surprised to get a call informing us that the truck our table was on, and all of its contents had been stolen! I was told that someone would call me later in the day to schedule another delivery. 48 hours later, when I hadn't heard anything, I called CB to inquire of our status. A lovely woman, was so apologetic, and helped me to schedule a new delivery for the very next Sunday. Yesterday, our table arrived, and is beautiful. Today we received an apology note, and a gift card for $100. CB, I'm sure this is what you were going for, but you now have loyal customers for life! read more

Their style is right up my alley ( Pottery Barn is a little too rustic, but they have great candles and towels!) and although it's expensive, it's well worth it. I just left C&B shopping for a baby rocker/glider. We worked with Antoine and he was extremely rude and pretentious. The entire experience left us with a terrible feeling as we were prepared to buy a rocking chair for our new daughter. He made us feel like we were not good enough to be shopping there bc. we were dressed in casual Sunday clothing before a Sunday football party. He was extremely short and assumed our budget. We did not appreciate this experience and will never shop at the location. I would really encourage to work with a different location. read more

So, it's C&B, and I think we all know what that means. If you aren't familiar with what their products are like, then you've obviously been living under a rock for 20 years or so. And that's why I don't really feel the need to review the products. Instead, I'll review the store itself and the service. The layout of the store flows really well. The housewares, dishes, etc., are all on the first floor. We walked around the circle looking at all of the stuff before we even realized we had already been there. The second time around, I even saw items I hadn't seen on our first look. So I definitely recommend taking your time and even going through everything two or three times. The furniture is on the second and third floors. I don't much care for their furniture, so we didn't go up there. This store can get really busy, so sometimes getting service can be difficult. If you have a question, you might have to find someone to help you instead of them coming to you. When you find that person, hold on to them. Otherwise, someone else might snap them up! Also, if you want your dishes in a box, make sure you tell them right away so they can start packaging them up while you continue to look around. They sell everything open stock, even when it says it's a set. read more

I really don't know what is wrong with us, but the husband and I love ths store. LOVE IT. We go in just to look and always get sucked into buying something for the house. Always. As it happens, we had to get new dishes. We swore we'd look around and price out things before we bought. Nope didn't happen. We found the perfect dishes (white porcelien) and we are so thrilled. Unfortunately, one place was cracked when we got home. :( Their customer service is fantastic, even with their new policies in place. Make sure to keep and bring your receipts when there is an issue with your item. The North Avenue store is my favorite place to go for C&B Customer Service. Screw me once, shame on you; screw me twice, shame on me for ordering from Crate & Barrel. First, I took advantage of a "new movers" coupon and ordered new furniture three weeks ago. I knew the coupon was not valid on one item that was on sale. However, the sale item was on back order, so I expected them to reduce the price even further when the item was advertised at an even lower price the next day. Wrong! Second, three weeks have passed, and I was finally contacted to schedule delivery. All items ordered are now available. However, the best they can offer me is another call me three weeks from now to give me a delivery date another one to three weeks later, since I live too far away (I'm only 90 minutes from the original store on Wells Street). This is a review based on just simple shopping expxeriences- I've never created a registry or had to do any serious shopping here (holiday/moving/party/wedding) I love it whenever my boyfriend asks me to come to Crate & Barrel to pick up this or that- I am a houseware/foodservice/overallhomegoods junkie- Even if I don't "need" anything I will never turn down a trip to Crate & Barrel just to browse around. The service at this location has always been great to me. They welcome you when you arrive, ask if you need any help finding something once you move into their section, and leave you alone if you tell them you're fine- What more could you ask for? I feel like Crate & Barrel is pretty good quality and their pricing had a pretty good range- some items are ridiculously expensive ($98 for a tea pot? really?) while some items are reasonable, sometimes even cheap (1 qt. glass bowls with lids for $1.95? yes!). If you are shopping for good quality basics, I think this is a good place to go- I've never had any trouble finding parking (although North Avenue gets pretty busy around this area, and traffic can be horrible) There are also a few other good stores around that make a trip to this location worthwhile (J.Crew, Victoria's Secret, Pottery Barn, Starbucks, Best Buy, some Bagel place, etc-). Overall I would say that I like this location and it's currently my go-to Crate & Barrel :) read more

Mixed feelings about C&B, there are some great items that are on sale at times, or great design ideas that are worth the buy, but the prices are quite high for the quality a good amount of the time, and the styles are overall more traditional for my taste. Found a great lamp this time, which they said they had in stock, then realized that they made a mistake and I would have to pick it up. I was told that it was a "HUGE BOX" so I got a rental car instead of trying to take it home on the train, which would have been easier. After finding their loading ramp and driving over the curb to get in it, imagine my dismay when the box is medium size and weighs 20 lbs. I managed to carry the box plus 30 lbs of groceries in my arms back to my condo from the zip car spot, that's hot light it was. Its a good place to search for deals from time to time read more

I was on the hunt for a couch. I figured Crate & Barrel was a little out of my price range, but thought I'd take a look just in case anything was on sale. My low review does not stem from a hatred of C & B products but, rather, from the poor attitude of the staff at this location (on the day of my visit). I perused all three floors of this location without a single employee uttering a word to me. I even made eye contact with a couple who still do not ask me how I was doing or ask if they could help me. It was a weekday afternoon also and the place was not crowded. I guess the employees at this store on the day I visited figured that the products would sell themselves...Either way, that's a pretty pretentious attitude to have. I ended up buying a floor sample couch at Arhaus (for less than the cheapest couch at C & B) where I received excellent service from a young woman named Katie. Plus, each piece from Arhaus is made by hand and it included a lifetime guarantee on the frame. read more

I love Crate and Barrel's products, but the customer service both through the website and at this individual store leave a lot to be desired. I ordered online for store pickup Dec 22, 2015, and unfortunately my child came down with strep throat the next day and I was unable to get to the store to pick up by (and ended up not even hosting) Christmas Eve. Since I didn't need the order urgently, I figured I'd leave it and they would then refund me the amount charged, even though I'm not sure why they charge you prior to pickup in the first place. When that didn't happen, I called their customer service line and was told I'd need to go to the store to resolve the issue, even though it's technically an online order. When I followed that advice and visited the store, they told me I had already picked up the order and that online orders need to be resolved online. Funny part is that when I went there I picked up another online order and two days later I received an email stating my order is waiting for pickup! Talk about miscommunication on all fronts. Crate and Barrel, if you can't get your online store pickup orders to function correctly, maybe you shouldn't offer them. Now I am still waiting on the refund for the original order, and wondering if you're going to charge me again for the order I already picked up. I get wide eyed going into a home decorating store like a kid in a candy shop would get. This place is three floors of pure happiness and full of color. I went here on a day that you would think would be very busy normally for a well known store, but it wasn't packed. My shopping experience was all the better, and the people who worked there were really friendly and welcoming and not all in your face like employees are when they ask you to get their store credit card. I found myself walking to them to ask questions instead of running away from them. Even though I am in my prime in this store, I cannot give them 5 stars due to the way they set the place up. It is not easy to find items. Instead of placing certain items in the same area, they scatter them about the store causing you to have to search forever for what you want. There is no specific division on each floor. My fiance and I just registered for our wedding here and it took forever. I am also kind of sad reading some of the other reviews, because now I know that we spent so much time picking out things we really wanted only to read that they might get discontinued. read more

I'm just disappointed in C&B. I patronized them faithfully for years. But personally, I think they've jumped the shark. The quality is not as good as it once was. I purchased a Marin entertainment stand and they sent two damaged and poorly produced pieces that did not reflect the models I saw on the showroom floor. What really upset me was that they then removed my critical review of the piece from their website. Below is my review. "I had my eye on this piece for years. It's a great design that facilitates storage of LPs as well as stereo components with vented doors and holes in the back for easy in and out of cables. Finally I got the money to buy it. The first one they delivered had a problem: the doors on the left were installed crooked. Unfortunately I noticed after the delivery guys left. I notified CB about it and they sent over another. I was not too upset, I figured it was one in a million, nobody is perfect. It was however, a royal pain to take apart my TV cables, stereo cables, a bunch of LPs and move the furniture out of the way, again, to make way for the delivery. And of course you have to tip those delivery guys after they brought it up two flights. Anyhow, I should have really inspected that second one they sent. I only noticed that there was an almost identical problem with this one after I'd put everything in the unit and connected every freakin' cable, again. I could call and complain and get another one, but at this point, I'm not doing anything, maybe someday I will try to see if I can have it repaired. These are made in India, and I remember when I bought it in the fall, I had to wait a while as they were backordered. I imagine they put pressure on the factory to step up the production to meet the demand...and they did, while cutting some corners. I would recommend that if you really want to buy this product, or any Marin, that you buy and carefully inspect it at the store and get it home on your own with a rented truck or van." read more

Always a clean store. Nearly always someone around to help. Good sales if you check back frequently. If you are looking for furniture and accessories that are decent quality and moderately priced, definitely put Crate and Barrel on the list. If you are looking for finer, more well-made things, Crate and Barrel only offers a few, especially in their wooden furniture. Most associates will be up front with you about the quality of the furniture and you will notice wear and tear on sample furniture that is cheaper in quality (look for loose knobs, fading varnish, deep chips/scratches, loose fabric on upholstery). We did our wedding registry with them without problems. We have several accessories and pieces of furniture from this store. All of our kitchen stuff (dishes, cups, utensils, towels) have proven to be very durable. We did delivery with them, but they just deliver the boxes and do not assemble. Bummer. $79 delivery fee doesn't buy much compared to what Room & Board offers with their white glove delivery service. They have sample sales twice a year (I think Jan. and June). Definitely keep your eyes peeled on your favorite samples and you may get them for 50% off or more! Most of the associates may offer to even write your name down close to the sales and give you a call when your piece is being sold as a sample, just ask them. We got our bedroom furniture for 50% off that way and I love it! read more

The only reason that Crate & Barrel does not receive the full five stars from me is the cost. This is an excellent store that I consider an essential stop when moving into a new space, redecorating, or upgrading kitchen appliances & utensils. On my budget, I cannot buy everything here, but I can at least be inspired and pick up a handful of things that are better deals. I suspect in my apartment now there are a smattering of items from C&B in every room. This location is convenient because there are other decoration and kitchen related stores within walking distance so you can hit lots of places in one trip (Sur La Table, World Market, CB2, etc.). Employees have always been helpful, so in my mind there's nothing that should deter you from coming here but the prices. read more

Moderately priced, medium quality in a wonderful set up. C&B is pretty affordable and has some very nice items, being very popular with the wedding crowd for registries. C&B has seasonal items, many of which are in the outlet or on sale by the end of a season. The items are medium quality - perhaps not heirloom material but enough to look stylish, even classic in many instances, for a reasonable price. C&B has a wonderful selection of flatware, stemware, and dishes that would make any homemaker swoon. These items are generally long-lasting, not seasonal, so you can collect them for years. They have earthenware, fine bone china, porcelain, crystal, silver. High quality for a great price for your nicer dinnerware. The upstairs has furniture and consultants to help you out. Highly recommend this. Parking lot is free, but crowded. And you can't park here and walk over to the World Market or Pottery Barn... it's C&B only! I love this C&B - that I can come here and get a pie dish for under $10. They have great sales - particularly after the winter holiday season. read more

Crate and Barrel is great for decor items and housewares but I think it is a poor value for furniture. I have been shopping for a dresser or chest and nightstands for a while and looked at the furniture at C & B several times as well as other furniture stores with comparable prices like Room & Board, Walter Smithe, etc. The cased goods at Crate and Barrel are of moderate quality. Most of drawers are not attached using dovetail joinery, chinese joinery etc. except two or three pieces that are priced exorbitantly for their size as the drawers are usually narrow and the chest are not as long as other stores who have similar prices but better constructed furniture. The furniture is not extremely low in quality, the quality is moderate but the prices reflect well constructed furniture. Not sure how they get away with it. read more

This is a beautiful store with free parking! It has 3 floors of stuff which made me very excited... I did register for my wedding here, and the downside is that their stuff is seasonal, so the items got discontinued...but I loved some so much, that I bought them myself over the holidays...also, I wish they had more of the dinnerware items on the floor, such as the serving pieces...but they will get them out...you just have to wait to see the items... Like others have said, their flower shop is amazing. I can smell their scent from several feel away...They are fresh and perfect-looking...oh so tempting to buy.... Their customer service is perfect...and as a plus, there is a pottery barn across the street, a world market across the parking lot, and a container store practically next door...It makes me want to sing "I'm in heaven" read more

I was a little thrown off by the construction and the fact that the merchandise keeps getting moved and I have to waste time looking for products I have bought before. This is a great Crate and Barrel location. It feels like it has a lot of product and they seem to change things regularly. The best part about it is their flower shop! Man, I don't get flowers a lot, but this is the place to get them. They have some great exotic/unique options and the florist there is very knowledgeable about styling them. I was surprised how inexpensive they are, too...really not much more than a whole foods or something. Another great thing about this place is that they giftbox anything you buy. I've started making this my go-to place for getting gifts for people, as they wrap it up really nicely. The only downside is that the wrapping can be inconsistent and subpar depending on the associate. I hope they might do more in the future to train all their associates on wrapping. While things aren't cheap here, they do seem very helpful and knowledgeable. I've also found that they are willing to help do some "personal shopping" with you, if you are looking for something particular. All in all a great place to shop! read more

I usually love Crate and Barrel, but have not been to this location. We decide to go there last night because we hear about a "Rug Sale" and our new place is in desperate need of an area rug. The employees on the main floor seemed to be helpful, but once we got up to the 3rd floor the two prissy men working the floor did not want to be bothered. I came up to one of them and asked him about the sale and he rolled his eyes and gave us a very half-hearted walkthrough of the rug area. He walked away before we even got a chance to ask questions. Over the years I've spent thousands of dollars at Crate and Barrel, but I can promise you not a penny will ever be dropped at this location. read more

It was a pretty painless procedure this time around because the staff at C&B helped me quickly locate my desired kitchen gadgetry so I could be on my merry way. I have a house full of furniture from C&B, and to a lesser extent Room & Board, Restoration Hardware and West Elm. I'm a boring yuppie lawyer with no real sense of style, so the inoffensive products sold by these places have always been a big help in making my place look like a decently put together, happy home. I've been a pretty good customer. I liked the place. My most recent C&B experience started with shopping online. We found some stuff we liked, so we went to look at it. They had the bed in stock but we couldn't find the dresser in the store. There was a salesperson, so I approached to see if maybe I had just missed it. He held up one finger to me and continued telling story to his colleague at the register. It wasn't work-related. He was talking about an awkward date he'd had. So I'm awkwardly waiting for him to finish his story, which probably only took 20 seconds but felt like forever because who the hell holds up one finger like that? Small potatoes, but pretty condescending. And when he finally finishes, he turns to me and says nothing. Not a word. Me, almost apologetically: "I didn't see the dresser that matches this bed over there. Do you have that in stock so I can take a look at it?" Him: "Did you see it on the floor?" Me: "No." Him: "Then we don't have it." End of conversation. I was ready to take my money elsewhere, but we had a little pow-wow and decided that it was just one guy, we did like the furniture and, most importantly, we had no time to go shopping for alternatives. We didn't want to buy from him and potentially give him credit for a sale, so we ordered online that night. I got a confirmation email telling me that customer service would contact me to schedule delivery. The charges showed up on my credit card. Days pass. More days pass. I call. The woman I spoke with (1) was at least as condescending as the guy in the store, (2) notified me that nothing I had ordered was in stock--the website isn't necessarily accurate--so it would be at least a few weeks before it might be available and then I could call to schedule delivery, and (3) told me I had nothing to complain about because I clicked a button when I ordered that requested no contact from customer service. That is obvious nonsense. There are some good reviews here, so if you roll the dice with C&B, I hope your experience is different from mine. I've now been charged for furniture that may show up someday. I feel ripped off. My prior experiences were petty good, so I have to conclude that this place has changed. You should think twice before spending your money with them. read more

I had purchased some stemless wine glasses from the closing store on Michigan Ave and when I got home, 2 of them were broken. I called the number on my receipt and the number was redirected to this store on North Ave. The lady on the phone said to just bring in the receipt and broken glasses and they would exchange them out. When I got to this store, Tiffany and her customer service manager said they could only put what I paid for the discounted glasses towards the replacements....even though I was told on the phone by their store otherwise. Tiffany was not helpful and did not show any kind of compassion. Customer service was lacking at this location and has discouraged me from making future purchases. read more

As far as chain locations for CB, this one doesn't add up. Pre-ordered 2 items Online and when we showed up to get them it took 45 minutes for the manager to let us know they were out of stock and on back order. The service lady couldn't remember anything, including our names after repeating multiple times, and was constantly confusing everything over her handy dispatch radio. Stay away. Go to the nearby West Elm for a better service experience. read more
