Actually tried a new flavor, garlic parmesan since the last 2x I ordered my favorite, lemon pepper, they were so salty and just eat too much draining. Had high hopes but the dump of parmesan cheese ontop of greasy hot wings didn't pair well. Fries seem different to. The were holding so much grease the were even dark in color, crunchy and flavorless. Not sure if there has been a change in management or kitchen staff in recent months but the food made me say. It has been a long time since we stopped here for a meal. A year to be exact. During the pandemic, Sophia and I ordered takeout and most of our food was pretty good. Since we decided to rest and not travel outside the Peninsula, why not stop by for some Saturday lunch? Both of us placed our orders online, which is actually new since the last time we came here. Easy and quick. Both of us picked wing combos with myself choosing boneless (Korean Spicy BBQ and Caribbean Citrus w/fries) and a soft drink. Walking inside, I noticed they have tables available again for seating. Last time, each seat was up indicating that it was takeout only. Anyway, service was quick and both our orders were ready. The wings....thumbs up. The wings may have been a little overcooked but each had flavor with both spices and weren't that spicy at all. The crinkle fries you definitely can have as a side and there was plenty of ranch dressing for everything. Sophia enjoyed her bone-in wings and saved them for leftovers. YIKES! Big difference since the last time I was there. One thing that has not changed was/is the friendly customer service. Out server went out her way to make sure our order was correct, she have an estimated time when it would be done and she made sure we had all the napkins, sauces and condiments we needed. However, the food just wasn't as good as it was last time The hot wings were not hot, the whole wings were bland, the lemon pepper wings were salty and none of it was crispy. Bit I thinks thats due to it be cooked fresh and boxed right away. The heat from the from the food makes steam in the boxes and cause crispy food to get chewy. I'm sure this is an are occurrence. I remember this place having some really good wings and other amazing entries. This is also why I don't go to places like this when they are busy. I'll give them another try and update this review. I actually smashed my food before getting the chance to snap a few photos The reason I gave 4 stars is because the sauce is FLAVORFUL. I ordered a 10 piece of the Korean Spicy BBQ and Hot Cajun. Again both were flavorful, but I could tell the chicken was seasoned lightly or not seasoned at all. That makes a big difference in my humble opinion. After spending 9 years in Kentucky, I'd like to think I know a thing or two about chicken lol. Regardless, I'm definitely coming back to try the other flavors. A acquaintance told me about this place. Located in a strip mall on Warwick Ave near Warwick & Bland Aves in Newport News. Right diagonally from AutoTech. Ordered online. Picked up in business. Spacious seating area but there was chairs turned upside down on the tables. They have many options from burgers , rice and chicken. I ordered 10pc wing combo with fries ,& drink. This combo consists of 10 pieces of wings. I choose half Garlic Parmesan ( dry rub) and half Hot Cajun. Pipping hot. I ate the French fries and ate one of each before leaving parking lot. Almost. Let me just say that this place is a solid 7/10 place that I'd go to whenever it was suggested with no qualms. I heard a lot of hype about this place and was hoping it would be truly special. It almost was. I ordered the Korean hot and traditional hot wings. The flavors for both were delicious. The Korean hot was more General Tso's chicken than Korean fried chicken hot, but I enjoyed it. Both could have been spicier. I would classify both as more medium than hot, but I understand the constraints restaurants deal with in regard to the general public's perception of spice. Why I say almost is the crisp and the crunch. The traditional wings were almost there, but they needed some more crispness. Parts of the wing had it, but overall it lacked it. Still an overall decent wing, but not that top tier. The Korean wing had the batter you'd expect from Korean fried chicken, but it was too thin and there wasn't the signature crunch that you get from Korean fried chicken. Again it was almost there, but just not enough to make it a truly 5 star experience. The frustrating thing about that is you can see the potential. They just aren't quite getting there. Other smaller gripes include the beverage service. It was cans in the fridge with only Coke and Lipton to choose from. Really disappointing. Also they were out of ketchup, so no ketchup for my crinkle cut fries. Bummer. Overall I still really think there is a lot to like about this place. I'm not sure how long it has been in business, but I got a bit of a feeling that they might be at a bit of a crossroads. I've been here four times nows, and every time I have the same experience. And that experience is awesome. First thing, decor. Crave has style. Its *very* clean (like wow clean), and the wall sized chalkboard is pleasant to look at. Whoever did the art for it should be proud. Plenty of seating space if you want to eat in, though it seems most people just go straight for take out like I do. Either way, its a fine place to sit for the short 10-15 minutes that it will take for your wings. Service is great. Always friendly and effecient! But the biggest thing of course:The Food. Let me tell you, the first time I went in here and got some wings I knew, 100 percent; these are the best wings in town. Huge, juicy, and not just crisp, CRUNCHY. A selection of sauce it would take me months to eat through if I wanted to try all of them. And thats not all the have. This place is my go to spot in the summer time. Ive been living within walking distance for a few years now and every time I feel like eating some AMAZING wings, this is the place. I like to call ahead, order a beer while I wait inside, and enjoy hanging out for a little but while my food is being prepared. Crave Wings is what I consider a chicken wing gem in Newport News. The location is off Warwick in a small shopping center around other international stores. The inside is decorated with simple decor and decent seating for a casual restaurant. A few TV's are on the walls and the place is always clean. The restaurant has a moderate sized menu of both American fare (Burger & Sandwiches) and Korean food, but the main attraction is the chicken wings (bone-in). The chicken wings are pretty large as compared to Wingstop or Buffalo Wild Wings. They are unbreaded, flash fried wings, that are coated in your dry rub or sauce of choice. They have plenty of sauce/dry rub options from honey BBQ, to garlic pepper, to traditional hot. A 10 wing combo with french fries and drink will run you about $14 which is still comparable to other chicken wing restaurants. The food is cooked to order so you'll have wait, usually about 10 minutes, but the wings are worth it. The chicken wings and the sauces are flavorful. The chicken wing meat tastes as if it's been brined or marinated before it was actually flash fried. Once fried, the wings have a slight exterior crunch. The french fries are just your basic crinkle cut fry and I'm pretty sure they are unsalted unless you ask. You could probably skip on those and use your money to get another side or more chicken wings. The fries can't be substituted out of the combo though so you'll have to buy the side separate. Beyond the traditional wings and a few sides, I can't speak to much of the other items on the menu. If you are going to a place called Crave Wings, I can't imagine you'd be looking to get anything other than the wings anyway. They are the star. read more
