It has been a long minute since I ordered food from Taste. Sophia and I didn't know what to eat for lunch so I mentioned these guys, which have been reliable for us. Let's see if they continued the streak. Just like previous times, we both placed orders via their website. For my order, I selected their chicken ceasar wrap which comes in a whole whear wrap and I added crotons along with their regular ingredients. I also ordered a S'mores Blondie dessert which was one of their seasonal items. When I walked in, the place was nearly packed with customers either dining in or waiting for their order. Ours was ready for pickup even before the 1pm pickup time. Bravo to them!! As far as the food goes, it was very good. The wrap was full of protein and veggies and like before, made yours truly full for lunch. Their dessert was really good and not too sweet the more I ate. They have different "stations" of items for sale--wine, pre-packaged foods, merchandise. I love yellow, and that's their primary design color. Not so great was the food. Which is why you'd be there in the first place, right? I got the goat cheese salad, and while there was a nice hunk of goat cheese in it, the salad was dry as heck. I'd prefer like a raspberry vinaigrette to a balsamic for this, as well. But that's not the customer's choice to make. The bread was the really old school multigrain hard kind, which was delicious with butter. Presentation is nice, including the signature yellow and white striped bags. Service was okay, but slow. I order from TASTE either for pickup or for in-store dining a lot when I am in the area. However, I was very disappointed this time around. I ordered the Inlet sandwich (mozzarella and tomato on ciabatta with a basil mayo and balsamic vinaigrette) with the prosciutto as an add on for pickup, and it was not very good. This is the sandwich I usually get, so I know what it tastes like normally. This time around, it tasted super dry, like there was no mayo in it, and I feel like the sandwich was not filled as much as it usually is. I also ordered the Pretzapalooza Brownie, and it was very good. The brownie was very fudgy, and I loved the added texture of the pretzels, and the caramel went nicely with it. It is my go-to dessert when I go to TASTE. I have been to this TASTE location before and it has been overall good in the past (although variations in quality are common), which is why I gave this place three stars instead of something lower. The greatest culinary mystery of Hampton Roads is how Taste makes their multi-grain bread taste so good! Many families started coming in during the afternoon and it got packed quickly. The food was very good. The sandwich had a lot of meat on it and was very flavorful. The coffee was decent but it did the trick. I noticed they have several different types of sodas available for purchase. There is a tiny market place which served different artisanal drinks and snacks for purchase. This seems like a cool place to come by and check out the local options. Man that was a great sandwich! All the flavors worked so well together. I ate half the way it came and saved the other half for later. I heated it up in the microwave for about 30seconds and it was cheesy, warm, and delicious. So good. The store was cute too, with drinks, take away food, little to go bento boxes, even wine. When we rolled into Newport News wifey and I were ravenous. Wifey found this place on Yelp and though I'm not normally a big sandwich guy (especially now that I'm supposed to be on a gluten-free diet) I was willing to cheat. The options here are phenomenal as you can either have one of their special sandwiches or you can build your own. They also offer wraps, salads and boxed lunches. This place has some incredible drink choices and they also sell a bunch of knick knacks and Virginia nuts. Wifey ordered the Chimichurri Steak sandwich (grilled flank steak avocado , jalapeños, and chimichurri on an Italian baguette) and I had The Virginian (prosciutto, turkey, baked ham, provolone, romaine lettuce, banana peppers, balsamic vinaigrette on a ciabatta bread). We also split a Sprecher lo-cal root beer. Though I liked my sandwich better, Wifey's was also very good...just too spicy with the jalapeños. We ended up splitting our sandwiches and while I didn't think it would fill us up the sandwiches were plenty.
