The story goes Martha Stewart pulled up so she could try a couple of the garnishes, liked what she tasted and invited Owner Mike to participate in a hot dog segment of her show. Today, Chez Lenard has a decades old cart on Main Street and two additional carts for catering or events. I ordered Le Hot Dog Choucroute Alsacienne (which has sauerkraut and a high quality Dijon Mustard) and Le Hot Dog Epicie Garniture Suisse (which boasts a traditional cheese fondue and a horseradish sauce). After a bit of research, these seemed like the most classic Chez Lenard toppings. The toppings were all very tasty. Chez Lenard uses Hebrew National dogs which are ready in a steam bath when you order. Among the best known and loved CTSpots, this is probably my least favorite combo of dog selection and cooking technique. There's no snap and it has one of the softer textures you'll find. I understand that one of the movable carts has a grill. The buns are Martin's potato rolls, which are fine. Chez Lenard enjoys an important history in Ridgefield. They've been a source of jobs for young adults. A lot of people have been going there for a long time because downtown Ridgefield is a cool place to visit. Somebody who lives closer to Ridgefield might give it a bit of a bump because it's been an important pat of their lives. This place is very affluent, so there's lots of shopping opportunities in this area. tucked in the parking lot of one of these places is a large duplex-sized place called Jakes, which has a ton of good press online. We go in, and the place is somewhat dim. The place is small but very dark. It kind of reminds me of a collectables shop in terms of the ambiance. Functional, but not very inviting. The menu has pretty much all hot dogs, and lots of them. The sheer amount of unique dogs is impressive. This being one of our later stops in our trek, we opted for a chicken teriyaki dog and a Seattle dog for comparisons. The food comes out quick, we take pics and dig in. First off, the hot dog to bun ratio was way off. the hot dogs were way too small for the bun, which was very evident with the Seattle dog. So you would get lots of bread with a little bit of dog on each bite. Second, the hot dogs were actually very salty. This usually has no real bearing on the dish, since I do like my salt. The problem being that the two hot dogs we got had high salt condiments on them (bacon and chicken teriyaki). the combo of salt on salt just lead to some very salty bites. The dogs themselves were prepared properly. I do enjoy the split and grill method of dog cooking. but there was a major lack of balance with the two we got. If we got hot dogs that had other non-salty ingredients, then these dogs would be good. but as prepared, they were a little off. It's an option if you want a hot dog, I would probably avoid the two that we got unless you like salty dogs.

In the parking lot cars park and in a tailgate form eat their delicious food truck picks. Family friendly. They place music so people tend to gather. My daughter enjoys the pieces of hotdog with French fries "salchipapa". I will continue to visit. I had read some suspiciously positive reviews about Dairy King on Yelp, and ordered a cheeseburger and fries. I get that generations of Norwalkers and others have fond memories of their time here, and it was with that fact in mind that I ignored my intuition and entered the outdated, near-empty facade just after noon. For the new and unititiated, a word of admonition: do not let your senses fool you. Dairy King looks like a dive, and tastes like a dive, and not in any delicious way. I get that going pretty much anywhere for ice cream on a hot summer day is fun. What I do not get are comments here asserting that Dairy King's food, particularly their burgers are anything more than mediocre, studiously average at best, and a dubious step up over major chains. To all who will, in the the romantic twilight after Little League games or movies, arrive at Dairy King hungry and ready and willing to scarf down just about anything, I hope for your sake that good experiences continue, that fine memories of family and friends are created and then savored in the hopefully delicious silence of your unfolding life. But for me Dairy King is far behind even the middle of the pack in it's chosen catagory, my days of eating "just about anything" are well behind me, and Dairy King will have to take it the rest of the way without me, at least until the day the real estate developers lean on City Hall to condemn that section of Main Avenue (under a phonied-up interpretation of the eminent domain statutes) and Dairy King inevitably (and blessedly) falls to the wrecking ball, destined to become mixed-use retail with residential up above.
