Had a delicious breakfast sandwich here, sat outside on the water. It reminded me of my favorite little deli in Rhode Island. Inside is a little divey but the staff is pleasant and the location makes up for it. Not sure I would dine inside when the outside is so lovely. The tables even had fresh flowers on them - what a nice touch! Also, they didn't grill my roll, which is awesome bc most places serve you a greasy semi grilled roll when you order an egg sandwich. I love when places have such excellent attention to detail. Would definitely return for more delicious sandwiches and the serene view. read more

What a delightful find -- even BEFORE they completely renovated the place. Fortunately, they didn't redo the grill or the owners...both deliver great meals at a fair price with the added delight of riverside outdoor "dining." (Okay, let's tell the truth: It's a joint. I so much want to love this place~but while the food was ok, the interior and exterior was a bit too stomach turning. Gorgeous views of the water, but it's just too uncared for. Staff was friendly, but they were out of the first 5 things we ordered, prices were high (the menu board didn't show prices for anything~which seemed weird)....we had 3 sandwiches and 3 drinks from the cooler for $40. I stop at Jr's every time I am in the area because the sandwiches are the best I can find in the best part of the country to get sandwiches. I don't come around often enough to know the daily specials before I get there but I always get 2 sandwiches because I can't decide and I either share with my family or try and save it for my travels ....but I end up crushing them all after a few hours and being more content than a guy that full should be. Nothing on the menu has disappointed but if I don't order a special and see someone else get it I get disappointed with myself. Iya hard to only order one thing here so bring a friend or 3. I really appreciate the quality of the ingredients and that they put them together perfectly right in front of you. The breakfasts are really good, the chicken cutlets are great, but I'm an Italian combo guy and they do those than better than any place in the area. They recently remodeled and the setting of the deli seems to just flow right into the river in the background, it's almost too peaceful. If I could get the food these guys make in my chaotic city it would be priceless. I came here during a busy lunch rush once and they still treated me like an old friend. I wish I lived closer and could call this my local spot. If you're in the area, stop here and grab something (or 2 something's) even if you don't think you're hungry yet. read more

Stumbled across this awesome place while on a work trip and was starving. Small inside but a super warm and welcoming place with a lot of locals coming in and out for lunch. We tried Jr's for lunch a few days ago. It was our first visit. It is a little out of the way from all the action by the train station in Westport but worth the short drive. It is a little unconventional for the area considering most of the spots nearby are white table.cloth spots. So if you want to spend less and still eat in Westport it is worth the visit. We had 8 people and the everyone really liked the food. Several Vito's were ordered as well as Philly cheesesteaks and some Mario's. Everyone thought they were great. Since that time it has passed hands 2 additional times. The good thing however, is that the dogs and famous chili have remained untouched since Jimmy Carter was elected president. We heard about this joint through online recommendations for a great dog. We figured we'd better try it for ourselves. RATING(S):... J. Diggity Dog: 10/10, Dog Man Sac: 9.5/10. J. Diggity Dog said, "This is a Hummel Bros, flat top griddle press. Chili...fantastic. It had the spice I was looking for. Onion was good, it wasn't overpowering, it fit right in. The dog: juicy, delicious, a lot of flavor and...I've been looking for this dog, man, and this (points to sign) says it's Saugatuck's Top Dog, I'm saying right now, this is Connecticut's Top Dog! The place I go when I'm craving a hot dog. Small lunch counter that gets hopping around 11:30. Everything coming from the grill smells great though I've never ventured to try something beside a dog with kraut, mustard, and onions. We came in to support a small local eatery. The waitress was nice and polite the but the place seemed aged and out of date. I ordered a meatball parmigiana and a philly steak Grinder. The meatball was not good and would not recommend it to anyone. It has a oily aftertaste and I could not finish the grinder. The philly steak sandwich was ok in flavor but the the meat was very chewy and hard to swallow. As for the price they were not expensive averaging between $6 to $8 for a grinder. Next time I will look elsewhere for a place to eat. read more

If you're going for a quick easy bite, this is your place. JR's was nothing more and nothing less from what I expected. Quick service with a smile. The fried food fiasco had its way with my mouth in a pleasant, exhilarating manner. I hope JR stands for "jaw rape" because that's exactly what the food did (in a somewhat good way). It's only imperfection was their failure to take credit/debit cards, but the ATM was right outside the door making it easy to acquire tangible American currency. I would recommend to anyone looking to shove a fat sandwich down their throat on their lunch break, before returning to the wretched world of uncultured swines surrounding them. read more
