Crawford's really was not a great place to me! After reading all of the YELP reviews, especially from Elite 12's, I thought I was really in for a real treat! Well, I wasn't :(. The hubs and I were welcomed and greeted in a rushed manner. We had the option of sitting outside between two large parties with screaming children, or smushed on the inside next to the door. We chose the door since it was a nice summer day and it was open anyway. Forgot what I ordered, because it really was not that memorable! The toast was HARD, the eggs were completely bland and tasteless, and the presentation of the food was a mix between someone plating it with the wrong food, removing it, and putting the correct food on there, and SLOP! Two stars for two reasons: It is convenient to where we live, and it did not break our wallet, although for the food we received was not worth the $25 before tip amount! On a search for the best breakfast place we decided to try this place out. If I could turn back time I would. The place is small. It's cramped, like maybe there are 10 tables inside and you need to be skinny to sit at them. During the warmer months they have a ton of outside seating. Staff was nice and helpful. Place was decorated nicely, it wasn't as clean as I'm sure it is first thing in the morning. We got there around 10ish and the floor had food on it, silverware etc. The menu was okay. Nothing really stood out as a "must try". For those looking for vegetarian, gluten free meals this really isn't your place. I had eggs over easy, bacon and fresh fruit. The egg was cooked to a medium, the bacon wasn't cooked enough and the fruit wasn't ripe enough. My husband had an omelette that he wasn't impressed with. Over rated is kind. I got a special which was basically blanched spinach, and a few diced tomatoes over a toasted English muffin with scrambled egg whites and hollandaise sauce. I can only presume this dish exists because they do not know how to poach eggs. The hollandaise sauce looked like curdled gruel and was fairly tasteless, watery eggs, canned tomatoes, etc. Very bland, no seasoning whatsoever, and looking around myself I can confidently say this is the norm. Came in for breakfast this morning, but ended up going with lunch fare. For some reason a tuna melt for breakfast sounded like a good idea. The tuna melt itself was good. The bread was toasted nicely and the consistency of the tuna salad was exactly how I like it. I ordered the homemade chips on the side. They were good, but I was kinda hoping they would be freshly fried and come out warm, but they weren't. The coffee was good and I was told that the fact they have flavored creamers is a really big deal. My companion ordered the potato salad and the turkey asparagus melt. The potato salad was a bit bland and we both agreed that if we came back, we wouldn't get it again. The turkey asparagus melt was good. I'm not a huge fan of asparagus on things - I prefer it as a side - but it was still good. The place is TINY. Almost uncomfortably tiny. It was a cold morning and there was a little wait so we were stuck in the vestibule with another couple watching everyone on the inside eat. It's a bit of an awkward setup and that's probably the biggest setback. Some people might find it charming or cozy...but the place isn't noisy enough for you to not notice that you're sitting right on top of other people. The service was very fast and friendly. This was a good place for Sunday morning breakfast/brunch. They feature a nice outdoors patio with bright yellow umbrellas. The food was good. I had the cinnamon raisin stuffed french toast. It was a relaxed environment, minus the bees that wanted a taste of our food. The waitstaff kept our coffee topped off at all times. Maybe it was an off day, or maybe I'm much pickier than the other reviewers. I met a friend here for lunch based on the review of other Yelpers. FIrst, let me say that I really liked the "place" - cozy, clean, unpretentious. I was warmly greeted at the door and waited on right away. Staff was friendly and efficient. The "MEH. I've experienced better" comes unfortunately from the food. I ordered a cup of cream of asparagus soup, and while hot with lots of (stringy) asparagus, it was extraordinarily salty. This coming from a girl who likes her salt. As I ate it (which I did) I kept thinking about all the cooking shows I've seen where chefs are constantly told to taste their food. Surely if the chef had, he/she would have done something to combat the saltiness. I also ordered a Cobb salad without tomato. I'm just not a tomato fan, sorry. When the salad came there was almsot 1/2 a plate of bare naked lettuce - apparently where the tomato should have been. Very odd. Also odd was the fact that I don't think that there was even 1/4 of an avocado on the plate - just two very skimpy slices. The bacon could not have been more than 1 strip diced. The cheese was the everyday packaged grated (Sargento type) mix. On the plus side there was an entire hard boiled egg and the (deli) turkey was flavorful enough. The dressing was decent with large chunks of blue cheese. Lastly, what I thought was most disappointing were the home made rolls that came with the meals. These were rolls like I've never had. They looked big and crust, but were dense and incredibly dry. Actually inedible...and I've never been one to turn down bread or rolls! Major "wha????". You know, now I'm thinking "should have taken a picture" just so you know I'm not a whiner. Isn't it weird that I normally would be comfortable taking pictures of great food, but was uncomfortable taking a picture of a sad/disappointing salad? I'd like to give this another try, perhaps for breakfast but we'll see.... read more

Tried crawfords for the second time on Sunday. I ordered the special that was delicious! They were having a rush so lots of people coming and going for dine in and carryouts. It's a very small place and the waitresses did a great job of handling the "chaos". What I didn't like was hearing a man in the kitchen swearing and slamming things around! Last thing you want to hear when the waitress delivers an order to the kitchen and someone in the kitchen starts screaming and cussing about an order. Great for breakfast. We have started to come here for a late breakfast on a day off. In the warmer months, you can sit outside to eat, which is really nice. Portions are generous, food is tasty, and the service is really good. We've only been here for breakfast. My husband usually gets a corned beef hash skillet and I get the veggie - it is a very large portion, but I love how the veggie has real, fresh spinach leaves in it that haven't been cooked down. Street park or park in the lot next to the restaurant. It is not a large restaurant, but the seasonal outdoor seating really expands its capacity. We haven't been in on a weekend morning, only during the week. read more

As a local, I have visited this place multiple times for breakfast over the last few years and feel I can make a pretty balanced assessment of the restaurant. Briefly: it's a good local breakfast establishment where the food is pretty good and the service is what you'd expect from a small family-run place. We have a young child and they have always been good at accommodating us and all that comes with dining with a little one; though, the inside of the restaurant is quite small and putting a high chair at the end a table makes for a cozy experience. From a breakfast perspective, the menu has items you'd expect with the highlight probably being the skillets. Quality and portions are pretty good though the price is maybe a bit on the high side, though not unreasonable. This place really shines in the summer and warmer spring and autumn months when the large outdoor seating area is open and Crawford's becomes a great place to have a bite to eat and enjoy the fresh air and watch the world go by. In the winter, you'll want to wear a pair of warm socks because your feet can get cold due to the layout of the restaurant and older construction. For a local place, it's great and we'll be back for sure. I don't know that making a special trip would be worth it but if you get to the restaurant and there's a 10 minute or so wait for a table, stick around and I don't think you'll be disappointed and hopefully no less than satisfied after your meal. I want to give Crawford's four stars and I'm afraid anything less will be considered a detriment but because it's a bit tight inside and the prices maybe $0.75/dish on the high side, we'll go with three stars. But, don't get me wrong: I do recommend and enjoy Crawford's. read more

I was fairly disappointed by the food I got here. I had the special which was scrambled eggs with bell pepper, onion and kielbasa, potato pancakes, and I opted for the English muffin. The eggs were mostly without flavor, save the kielbasa. The potato pancakes were dry and cardboardy. I love to find little random diners around the Metro Detroit area and I am so thankful that Yelp is helpful in finding non-chain establishments. I came to brunch at Crawford's Kitchen around 9:30 am on a Saturday and immediately fell in love with the small town feel of the restaurant. They serve the typical breakfast, brunch and some lunch menus. We ordered the S'mores french toast, corned beef hash skillet and the omelette that was stuffed with mounds of bacon and sweet peppers. The flavors were well-balanced and delicious. The food was pretty filling - the portions were a good size for a substantive meal. The prices are very reasonable and the waitstaff is so nice. There is a bunch of seating outside and inside. I really enjoyed being here and was able to have a 2 hour breakfast with a friend. read more

My daughter and her friend ate at this restaurant on Saturday Dec. 10th. When their order came, there was a long dark hair intertwined into the fruit on her friends plate. It was the first thing my daughter saw and wondered how the server didn't see it. She tried to get her friend to complain about it but she was too hungry and decided to just pull it out--which is disgusting. Her friend went to eat her sandwich and what was in it? A long dark hair AGAIN! By this time my daughter had lost her appetite and couldn't eat anymore. Shame on them for not complaining about it at the time. Ate here for the first time this week. Arrived about 10:30 on a weekday, so it was not crowded at all. First impressions were that it was not very clean. Highchair was sticky (needs be thoroughly washed down), and the floor was swept, but really dirty (needs to be mopped). I imagine that if it was warmer and I was dining outside, I might not have noticed as much. As for the food brought to our table, everyone felt like things were just "okay". No standouts. Probably won't make an effort to go back. Diner food is diner food. read more

Went here a couple months ago and was sadly disappointed. We had high hopes for this local diner, but the manager was yelling at the staff in the kitchen and it could be heard throughout the dining room. It was very unprofessional. The friends I was having breakfast with are former food service staff and managers and were appalled by the managers behavior. They said that is an inexcusable action. The manager was mad because some customers had left because they didn't get served for a long while, which is true they were slow and short staffed (based on the several hiring signs in the window). However, my friends said this is the time that you rally the troops and provide support to all staff since there is no way to change people calling in sick or being understaffed. However, the manager choose to yell at her staff, the waitstaff was shaking as they brought out our food and clearly terrified of the manager. The food was decent, but they gave some of us the wrong dish or wrong toast. Forgot to bring over refills. It was clearly a bad morning, but it was inexcusable what how the manager was treating staff. We won't be going back and felt bad for the waitstaff so we tipped well. Food was average, coffee and orange juice was ok, dining room was outdated and needed to be dusted, extensive outdoor seating seemed nice, waitstaff was friendly, but overworked and running ragged, and the manager was a B. The breakfast/brunch places in town are limited and this one is now off the list, what a lost opportunity for this business. read more

Indoor dining in the winter is so cozy and welcoming with wonderful windows to watch snow flakes through while enjoying a hot tea or coffee and consistently good food. BUT we LOVE Crawford's In the summer, with their idyllic outdoor seating where we can bring our pup, Trixie, and all three of us are warmly welcomed like we are family. The owner, Ania, takes the time to get to know her customers. She and her husband truly represent all the best of what a mom and pop restaurant should be. Donna, who is often our server, is AMAZING! Even when she is busy, takes great care of us. She knows our order patterns and welcomes us with my hot tea and Paul's iced tea before we even order because she knows that is how we like to start our day. AND Trixie is always welcomed with a bowl of water and a dog treat. The food at crawfords is classic and delicious and very reasonably priced.
