I like the moderate and healthier portion of the plate. I found new modern American restaurants are gradually trending to a smaller sized dishes. Many desserts here seem to be instagram worthy and the cocktail here can be eye candies sometimes. Ambiance: Ambiance is one of the reasons make up to the 5 star rating of this place. This is one of the restaurants in Plymouth has the decor embracing modern upscale feel which is my cup of tea. The tree in the middle of room gives you an outdoor ambiance while enjoying the inside comfort. Service: Nothing stand out but the service is mostly prompt and well staffed. I just scrolled through my camera roll and had a realization: I might be mildly obsessed with The Ledger. Every single time we're in town, we end up here. The cocktails are stunning, the food (whether brunch or dinner) is consistently memorable, and apparently every plate is so beautiful that I feel compelled to photograph it. Stopped by The Ledger for breakfast on the way home from Detroit. Absolutely excellent food! Our server, Jessica was very sweet. All their staff we encountered were very friendly. They prepared my husband, the classic eggs, bacon, and toast and he very much enjoyed it. I could not decide and our server, Jessica did a great job of explaining all of the dishes. She recommended the Hippie Hash with roasted brussels sprout leaves, sweet potatoes, beets, pickled onions and dried cranberries topped with eggs made your way. Outstanding! I finally made it back to The Ledger for Brunch which was excellent! Service was attentive (our waters were always full), our drinks were so fun and delicious. I got the Smoke and a Pancake (so fun, it literally comes with a mini pancake & bacon strip) & my friend got the Chef's Bloody (comes with a halloumi & meat stick) slightly spicy. Then I couldn't figure out what to order but finally settled on the Pastrami Hash (no cheese) and wow, I really liked it! There is some good crunch from the fried sauerkraut (I realized I got hash browns instead somehow...still tasted great), I would totally order this again which is funny since I'm not a huge meat/pastrami eater! I thought it was super unique as compared to the Hippie Hash which I was also considering. My other friend DID get the Hippie Hash & said it was good (but I don't know if she was blown away, I'll have to try it another time though). Lastly, my friend ordered the 360 Main Club which came with some thin, fry chips that she really liked. I think my hubby would like this sandwich so we will definitely have to come back. One of my favorite architectural flips I love is when old buildings get repurposed into restaurants, breweries, bakeries, etc. The Ledger does exactly that, taking over what used to be the Plymouth United Savings Bank. They have done a beautiful job converting the insides into a gorgeous dining experience that is very pleasing to be in. As usual I sat up at the bar, and the bartender was just fantastic. While I prefer to drink mixed drinks, I'm not usually a craft cocktail guy. Just straight bourbon or a Captain/Jack and coke and I'm usually happy. Old Fashioneds make their way often, but the bartender convinced me to try one of the craft ones and said if it didn't meet my expectations, she would by the drink for me. Well this was a fantastic drink. Not sweet, not bitter and full of flavor. Without a doubt I went for the burger because I'm OBSESSED with finding the best burger in the area. While I enjoyed this one, I don't think it will make the list. Foundationally, the meat itself has to be flavorful on its own, and with smashburgers this isn't usually a problem, I think the deep crisp does something for the flavors. Like I said, this was a good burger except for the salt factor. It was too heavy on the seasoning and between the bacon and egg and beef, I'm not sure what tipped it but it was too much. Whiskey is not a common martini liquor so it didn't dawn on me to ask - I am definitely not a fan of the brown liquors. The cinnamon toast crunch with rum was excellent. The fruity pebbles with vodka was exceptional - I want nothing but this every time in the future. The coco puffs was undrinkable. While the others had a subtle or undistinguishable alcohol taste and were "milk forward," this was all whisky, over powering and very light chocolate taste. After a glimpse of the photos on Instagram and a peek at the online menu, I was eager for my first visit to The Ledger. The restaurant resides in a stately former bank, sitting squarely on the corner of Penniman and Main, across from Kellogg Park. I loved the casual elegance of the dining area: the comfortable leather chairs, plush, bright fuschia banquette seating, and moss green wall covering. I loved the floor-ceiling windows that allowed in the summer light. The visit started on the wrong foot - the reservation was supposed to be indoors, not out, but this was eventually corrected. I was intrigued by the menu I saw on my feed: lamb pierogies, bone marrow, mushroom toast, and duck breast. I started with a Nojita - I love that more and more restaurants are offering mocktails. Along with that, I had the bone marrow, two bone canoes served with pillowy focaccia. I did not enjoy the marrow as much as I thought I would. For my main, I selected the ribeye, my favorite cut. It was cooked to a lovely medium rare and served with a creamy, flavorful zip sauce. I still think about it. But what also stood out was the wild mushroom side. It was meaty and savory and possibly the best part of the meal. I might have spoken too soon because I had not had dessert yet. The menu was strong. I would need to be stronger against the draw of the multi-layer carrot cake, Baked Alaska, and coconut mille crepe cake. I loved the variety and creativity. Ultimately, I went with the mille crepe cake served with passionfruit curd and coconut tuile. The restaurant also brought over the butter cake served in a large chocolate dome and revealed with hot crème anglaise. The strawberry jam and fresh berries complemented the bold chocolate flavors. Next time, I intend to get the Brussels sprouts, tuna tartare, and lobster roll. I also need to try out the Baked Alaska and carrot cake. My friend and I were disappointed by our experience at The Ledger. You pay high prices for the ambiance. It is a beautiful dining space. However, the food is not what you'd expect from an upscale restaurant. The food is mediocre for the price. The Papas Bravas didn't look appetizing and the taste lacked any wow factor. It was plain eggs with little seasoning with dark potatoes mixed in with lamb. My friend didn't like her Steak Sliders. The only thing we really enjoyed were the sidewinder fries served with the Steak Sliders. The Mini Beignets are just donuts with a lemon filling. I wouldn't call them beignets. They are nothing like the real stuff you'll get in New Orleans. The Ledger fails at fusion cuisine. It should stick to a traditional Western breakfast. For nearly $30 brunch dishes, they need to have something more that will differentiate itself from a typical Coney Island or local diner offering similar food for half the price. Service is mediocre as well. My friend asked our server to pack her leftovers and either the server didn't hear her or forgot because she never received her food back in a takeout box. What can I say? One of the best dining experiences we have had this year from start to finish. You have a great view of this beautiful restaurant before you walk in. Hard to believe this used to be a coney. We were fortunate to have Thomas as our waiter. It's not a large piece of fish but but with the chickpea & kale cassoulet it was adequate. My wife said the trout was superb. It almost looked more like salmon and Thomas explained why...that it's from icy cold streams rather than lake trout. She said the preparation with the matcha apple made for a very special dish. Our other friend raved about the cheeseburger minus the egg which she didn't want on the burger. We also had sides of the truffle fries and the roasted wild mushrooms. The fries were very good and the mushrooms (I ate most of them I think) were outstanding. We also shared the carrot cake for dessert. I am not a fan of carrot cake myself but I would actually order this myself! It was that good. The cream and the caramel they use really make it an extraordinary dessert. Side note....we never had to ask for more water as our glasses were filled throughout the meal. Also enjoyed talking to the manager who stopped by to make sure we were happy. First time here and will for sure be back. This place clearly strives to do everything right and very focused on the customer. We had brunch for the second time at the Ledger. The last time was a couple of years ago and it was okay but not great. The ambiance is lovely though, and it does feel more special than the local diners. So we waited a couple more years to return, and there were issues again. Mainly, it is expensive and the food and service do not match the prices. If everything were just right, I wouldn't mind paying so much...but it simply was not. Brunch is 2 1/2 times what we pay elsewhere, and the ambiance only goes so far in making up for that. There were a lot of minor issues. Music was extremely loud. Service was just okay, not great. The server did not check in once we got our food, so I had to flag her down because there was a problem with my order. There was cheese on my hash though I asked for none - and I did not realize it until I had eaten a few bites. There was no apology when I brought it to our server's attention and she took it away. There was a dirty mirror in front of me, and they seated a couple directly next to us though they easily could have seated them one table over [the restaurant was only full]. My toast was barely toasted, so I asked if they could toast it more... and they brought it back looking the exact same. There are no refills on coffee, which is fine, but one cup is $6, and it was quite small. The Pastrami Hash is not a hash at all... it is a potato pancake with a stack of sliced pastrami lunchmeat, and two eggs on top. It was delicious, just not a hash. So no major concerns, but enough to make me not want to return any time soon. If this were my local diner, and prices were half what we paid, none of these issues would matter. But when you pay so much, expectations are higher. We will wait a couple of years again to return. read more

Everything from the food to the service was immaculate! My husband and I came with our extended family a day before our wedding and it was absolutely perfect. Our table of 8 was sat in a private room that was behind a mirror. It was secluded and quiet and that was perfect. When we arrived, the restaurant knew it was a day before our wedding and gave us a small bottle of champagne and a candle, SO NICE! The food was fantastic. For an appetizer, we ordered the lobster roll and the brussel sprout chips. The lobster roll I could live without, it was mostly bread and not enough lobster. The brussel sprout chips were a little spicy but the flavor was incredible and enough to share! For my meal I ordered the filet and my husband ordered the lamb chops. We ended up swapping meals! I normally am not a huge lamb fan, but these were so tender and not gamey at all! The filet I ordered was thick and well cooked. I also got the truffle fries as a side and it was good but I think I would've preferred a different potato. The magic continues with the dessert selection. There are a few options but we went with the carrot cake. The carrot cake comes with smoked cinnamon. Nice presentation. It was a little sweet for my best friend and my husband, so I was there to save the day. I ate it all. Additionally, we got a piece of beautiful funfetti cake with a birthday chocolate and candle. We tried cocktails from their speciality menu and the dessert menu. Everything was so thought out and delicious. Went there with a group of eight. Four of us ordered steaks. One steak was decent, the other three were terrible. Dry, overcooked, completely tasteless. Two of us had them remade. They were just as bad. The busboys work hard, but they literally disturbed us every 90 seconds trying to take plates that weren't empty. They couldn't just take stuff quietly, they had to interrupt conversations every time. It was maddening. But even worse than the steaks, is the God awful club music they blare. Trying to be an upscale steak place and blaring club music is just an atmosphere killer. Needless to say, none of us will ever go back. read more
