East Grand Rapids is to Grand Rapids Michigan what Highland Park is to Dallas, what Alamo Heights is to San Antonio, what Beverly Hills is to L.A. It's about their schools, family, & small charming business district. You can take it or leave it. This is where you find Crazy Charlie's known for their hot dogs. I had the JERSEY DOG - mustard, kraut, pickles. If you like your hot dogs steamed, soft, light, and airy with kraut, mustard, and pickles then you will enjoy these. It seems children love them.

Pretty weak food here. The hotdogs were mushy and the chili tasted like it was store bought out of a can. I had the coney and the mom's dog with a side of undercooked fries. I can't speak to the ice cream but I can't recommend the hotdogs. Plenty of other places in town to stop for some quick food. The two stars are for the people and the service. This was without a doubt great. If they had better food I wouldn't mind going back.

I have eaten here 20 times, great food and service...except for todays service. I always order a "Charlies" dog and side of French fries. Verbal "order up" was announced at the counter, I approached the counter to grab order, and realized my French fries were not the norm. The majority of the fries were 1/2" to 1" long, "shniples" if you will, darkened in color, and hardened, (than a freshly cooked fry)and only 10 regular sized fries. I asked if I could get a fresh order of fries, and not the bottom of the bag bits and pieces. "No" was the reply. "If you want new fries, I will have to charge you for another complete order". I did not re-order, nor did I did eat any portions of my original order. I DID HOWEVER PAY FOR COMPLETE ORDER, UPFRONT, and left with nothing. Unbelievable Poor Customer Service

Go crazy with the CrazyDog @ Crazy Charlie's! This unique, small HotDog joint is reasonably priced and taste great! Located in Gaslight Village in East Grand Rapids, this spot is a MUST when craving hotdogs. The also offer so much more! Make sure to checkout it out sometime, you may become a regular.

I don't understand the hype of this place. It's just a hotdog. Toppings and decent service are the only good qualities of this place

I like the chili that they use on their dogs and fries. Comparable to Yesterdogs and not much farther of a drive. Nice window seating.

The chocolate ice cream was less smooth than I recall but that may have been due to the Twix addition. The add-ins seemed to make it all a little grainy in my flurry, but my wife's flurry didn't have that issue. There was also a notable difference in amounts given. Mine is pictured while my wife's was filled to the very brim. We ordered the same size. Normally I get a regular twist with sprinkles and I think I'll stick to that moving forward. Since we've been there before we knew to bring cash, but the gal behind us in line didn't know. It's a little inconvenient to be cash only, but it's their businesses choice. The staff were kind and we got out ice cream quickly. All in all not my favorite ice cream shop in town, but it does what it needs to in a pinch and when I don't want to drive further for a cone.

We usually don't go because they are a cash only ice cream shop, but we had some extra cash and decided to stop in. Service is limited to a window. The wait is very quick even when the line has a ton of people. There was about 20 people ahead of us, and it took about 5 mins to get to the window. The ice cream was very good. Their menu is so extensive that it makes it hard to choose what you want. I went with a chocolate malt shake. Our only complaint, is the same we have with most of the other places, and that is that they don't have dog size cones. We ordered the smallest cone and it was massive so we had to eat half it before giving it to our dogs. This place is on par to all the other ice cream shops in town so look no further if you live in the area, and have cash on hand.

Facility was clean and smelled like an ice cream shop should so I felt very comfortable selecting toppings. I chose cotton candy yogurt with gummy bears as a kicker. This stuff is expensive but there's really no way for you to know how much you're going to be paying until your cup is weighed. This business model is so wild to me, yet it works. Nate and I stopped in to this location of the Pump House recently for a sweet treat. The bowls are huge, which makes you buy more! They also have cardboard dividers so you can separate your bowl and try up to three flavors, which is what I did. The options are extensive - I think they had at least 20 flavors of frozen yogurt. They also have hard scooped ice cream but I'm not sure if you can use the toppings bar on those choices. I tried the vanilla caramel swirl, mint, and mango raspberry sorbet. They have dairy free options which is nice. The toppings bar is bonkers - I've never seen so many options, ranging from sweet to salty to weird (hot cheetos anyone?). I typically go for the gummy candy but I wish I knew which toppings were the lightest! At 69 cents per ounce, we paid over $20 for our two cups. That's bananas to me, honestly, but I knew it would be pricey going in. The vanilla caramel was my least favorite of the frozen yogurt flavors - it was definitely very caramel-y flavored but I thought it was overpowering. The mint was really good and the sorbet was sour and refreshing. Definitely not a place I'll go regularly, but it's a fun place to check out occasionally.

Since I'm simple and usually get a standard twist cone with sprinkles, I'm easy to please. For me, the soft serve has been somewhat inconsistent; sometimes it's great and sometimes its really soft and has melted quickly which made it a race to eat! I've also had some random texture issues with some flurries. One time my wife had the drumstick flurry and I don't know what happened, but the texture became super grainy and almost like the ice cream was curdling/separating. That for sure felt like a one-off, but is now always in my mind and makes me far less likely to get a flurry. There is almost always a line in the evening and on weekends, but it does tend to more quickly. It's a time to chit chat and gives you plenty of time to check out the extensive menu. I love that it's dog friendly so pals can bring their babes or I get to see other people's dogs! They don't have a ton of seating, but it's not generally presented as an issue. I appreciate that the seating is behind the building and provides some shade for hot summer days, but wish it wasn't right next to the dumpster.

It all started on a smoky, 87 degree Saturday in July when our camping plans got a rain check and we were open for a good time. Big Mini Putt Club was initially discussed but nixed because we weren't feeling the downtown vibe or $12 a person/9 holes. Then, we looked up AJ's mini golf but they had a private event scheduled. Yelp suggested Double Dip and after one ring, the employee on the telephone sold us with $3.50/person for 18 holes and recommended we come before 7p (thanks for the tip!). We parked, watched the first half of England vs. France at Walker Roadhouse and walked right over to the Depot. The course was perfect (no waiting around and lots of shade) for our 4 year old who got her first hole in one on the 15th! The ice cream/cone of ice came out quick (no line either) at 6:30p and we had our choice of picnic tables with umbrellas to enjoy. Overall, great family date night! We rarely frequent the west side, besides for the zoo, but will have to plan another trip before the summer ends. Sorry Frosty Boy - we'll see you soon (probably tomorrow) and congrats on winning Best of the West!
