I love Yesterdog, and I was going to be a hard sell to like another hotdog place. Nevertheless, Charlie's has won me over. I think the minced pickles really did it for them. The dogs are hotdogs.... so, you know what you're getting, it isn't healthy or gourmet at all. But, they aren't chewy, and the coney is pretty Detroit. I do however really miss frozen cokes. Stopped by to try their hotdog. Asked what was the most popular and was told it was mom's favorite. So I got that and with Charlie dog, small fries and a small drink.... they had make it a combo sign, so I asked if I could make one of the hotdogs a combo and was flat out told no. No explanation as to why, nothing, just no and that was it. The foods came out quickly, the fries were ok, few in my order were over cooked.... the hotdog is not all beef so be mindful of that when you order. The overall hotdog experience.... it could been better... it was not what I had expected, but worth visiting once to give the place a try. We're really trying to like this place but twice we've gone in for soft-serve ice cream and twice we've been disappointed. First time this spring they ran out; second time this spring we were told they don't have chocolate ice cream until summer. Perhaps a sign out front that says that. read more

Food can be a bit pricey, but they sell my Favorite meal of all time. If you are going, I recommend getting two pioneer dogs with a medium blue slushy, it's only 10 bucks and trust me, it will change your life. The inside of the restaurant looks amazing!!! Pretty weak food here. The hotdogs were mushy and the chili tasted like it was store bought out of a can. I had the coney and the mom's dog with a side of undercooked fries. I can't speak to the ice cream but I can't recommend the hotdogs. Plenty of other places in town to stop for some quick food. The two stars are for the people and the service. This was without a doubt great. If they had better food I wouldn't mind going back. read more

Stopped by while we were visiting east Grand Rapids. I am a fan of spicy food so I got a couple of the Aftershock dogs. These had chili, onions and jalapeños on them. It was loaded up with all of the fixings. I think there were more jalapeños on each dog then when I get them on pizza. They were very good and I downed them very quickly . We ordered some fries and they were ok. I think the excellent hot dogs just raised the bar very high. Decent pricing for everything too. I am sure we will go back again. read more

I have eaten here 20 times, great food and service...except for todays service. I always order a "Charlies" dog and side of French fries. Verbal "order up" was announced at the counter, I approached the counter to grab order, and realized my French fries were not the norm. The majority of the fries were 1/2" to 1" long, "shniples" if you will, darkened in color, and hardened, (than a freshly cooked fry)and only 10 regular sized fries. I asked if I could get a fresh order of fries, and not the bottom of the bag bits and pieces. "No" was the reply. "If you want new fries, I will have to charge you for another complete order". I did not re-order, nor did I did eat any portions of my original order. I DID HOWEVER PAY FOR COMPLETE ORDER, UPFRONT, and left with nothing. Unbelievable Poor Customer Service read more

Crazy Charlie's is a great eat and go spot. Great food but they don't have very many healthy choices. This is a great easy spot to go in gaslight. Good food at a great price. The customer service is not the best... every time I go there they are always talking in the back and it is impossible to get your order taken. The restaurant itself Is okay. Not very clean and pretty small. Some times you can't eat inside you have to eat outside on a bench. And it closes at 8:00? Almost everything about this place is great - great employees, clean, nice location, etc. My kids enjoyed the fries and the chicken tenders they got, and I'm sure they would have enjoyed the ice cream as well if they didn't know Jersey Junction exists right around the corner. Unfortunately I can't give this a higher review because I do not like the type of Hot Dog they serve here - I believe it's what is referred to as "Coney Dogs" in Michigan (or Michigan Dogs on the East coast). It's almost like a giant Vienna Sausage - it's a very soft hot dog with no snap on the casing. Anyway, I had two Bacon and Cheddar dogs - the toppings were yummy but the actual meat was not to my taste. It's too bad, I like everything about this place except for signature "dish". Workers were yelling at customers and then when I got my food it wasn't even what I ordered

Walked in to grab two hot dogs and fries. Around 10 bucks so not bad, but the price was the only good thing about this place. The cashier was sitting in the back talking to a friend- had to shout "hello!" To have my order taken. She seemed annoyed at me interrupting her conversation. Male cook sneezed on food. I went here for some cheap eats last week the service was ok but the tables were very messy and I was not impressed with the hot dogs. The prices are good but the quality of the dogs is not. The taste was pretty bland and dry and the buns aren't great. It's nothing special and I wouldn't recommend it. If I had to describe my experience with one word it would be disappointing. read more

This place is great! The only thing I have a problem with is the cleanliness of this place. It doesn't seem clean and refreshing when I walk in like it usually would in a great hot dog place. My attitude tends to lean toward Yesterdog, but I've gotta say that I think the food's actually better at Crazy Charlie's.

All of there hot dogs are great, but the Pioneer dog is one of the best. They also have some of the best milkshakes in town.

Took my wife and kids here for dinner. I heard it was kid-friendly, and it is. I was pleasantly surprised by the food, though. The hot dogs are very good, the buns are steamed (nice touch), and the toppings are great! I actually prefer these dogs to those at The Corner Bar or Yesterdog, which I was not expecting.
