Onto the entrees hubs order shrimp and grits and the FRIED SPINACH OMG!! I ordered a grouped basket with sweet potato fries sounds boring but it was delicious. Quaint place with $5 Old Fashions (at least on a Thursday evening) that were not watered down and quite refreshing! I ordered a broiled combo plate that included snow crab legs, scallops, shrimp and fish (cod or grouper, I don't recall). I chose two sides, a salad and fried spinach. Prior to our meals we had a cup of New England clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious and had large pieces of clam in it. All the mentioned seafood items on the plate were perfectly broiled, all of which you could tell were fresh (including the crab legs, which were plump and moist). The salad was okay, as was the interesting fried spinach. The better half had the shrimp & grits as her entree. She enjoyed and commented about how much shrimp there was atop the "grits" on her plate. I tasted it and it was okay to me. The wait service was above standard, with an attentive yet not annoying waitress. Overall I/we would eat here again; and with those $5 Old Fashions might have to make it an every 4 to 6 week ritual. It's that 40 minute drive that may curtail that thought. Time will tell. read more

Ignore any of the old reviews, past the last several months. This is a "new" restaurant in that there are new owners, a new (limited) menu, and a remodeled location. The only thing that stayed the same was the name. The entrance is now off the parking lot -- rather than through the back porch or (former) front door. You enter into the bar/counter room. You have to wait to be seated. There's a large board with specials and market prices. If you haven't been here -- as we had not -- since the changes, the prices may come as a shock. Some fish are in the 30 and 40 dollar ranges. We saw several people see the prices and then leave. The free hush puppies and coleslaw are no longer. Even iced tea is now almost $4 a glass -- with no refills suggested or offered. I missed that they no longer have fried oysters, too. My husband was able to find his "go to" shrimp basket still on the menu. This was a decent price. And the shrimp were still lightly battered and tasty. It came with fries and coleslaw. I didn't care for the coleslaw -- a bit too much mayo for me. I got their shrimp and grits. The grits were in one solid cake. A rectangle that had been cubed and fried. They were just okay. A bit hard. The shrimp were good and the gravy not bad. But I wouldn't order this again. The dish comes with a side. They don't tell you, but some of the sides are considered "premium" and there will be an up charge. Make sure you ask so you're not surprised. The "crazy" in their name is now more appropriate. They really should offer a few reasonably priced lunch specials. We did not expect to have a $60 lunch (after tax and tip) -- especially not here in Lake Wales. But I'm glad we came and tried. We used to stop here every trip into and out of Tampa. They were closed for awhile and have remodeled and reopened. The menu has been simplified and due to rising food costs, understandably, prices have been adjusted. Coleslaw and hushpuppies used to be served immediately when you at down. We visited Bok Gardens and chose to eat at this restaurant. It is a small almost hole in the wall type of restaurant. I had the Fried Combo platter with fried spinach and broccoli. Never had fried spinach before. It was great!! Everyone loved their food order and the service was great. Has a full bar and I remembered that had eaten there 3 or so years ago and had loved the food then also. Highly recommend if in the area. Yelp lists this establishment as closed but it recently reopened. Visited with large group. Service was great, food was excellent! They have reduced their menu from when they were previously open. Personally a fan of a smaller menu where the kitchen can become very proficient on these offerings. All of us were very pleased with our food. The updated venue was very nice and the parking lot has had a very nice upgrade. Very happy that one of our favorite seafood restaurants is now open again. read more

If you like it a little quieter ask to sit in the bar area. The food was delicious. The Crab Rangoon appetizer was excellent ordered per server. The fish and chips was good and was a nice portion. The broiled seafood platter was good the crab legs were ok didn't snap so you had to work at it to get your crab meat. Parmesan cheese grits are unique with flavors very enjoyable. We revisited Crazy Fish and were pleasantly surprised to find no waiting and a friendly greeting. My smokey old fashioned was delicious. The clam chowder had good flavor but insufficient clams. I had blackened grouper which was just right. My wife had the signature hamburger which was good and cooked properly. The chocolate cake dessert was excellent. Friendly service and hometown ambiance. We were a party of 9 and we were greeted warmly by several staff. Once we were seated our waitress (Denise) was right at our table to take our drink order. She was so happy and friendly. No issues putting us on several checks. Everything we ordered was correct and delivered to the right person. The food could not have been better. I had the fish and chips and I think it was the best I have EVER eaten in my 77 years. My husband ate all of his dinner and ordered chocolate cake. Oh my -YUMM. Southern home cookin! Red taters, and Florida orange cake, oh my! The story goes that this first started out as an ice cream place. Then it morphed into a biker bar, and now it's the local seafood joint. If you look closely, you can see remnants of its past lives, from the obvious ice cream counter to the biker decor studded throughout. The great thing though is that there's something for everyone here. Even though this is primary a seafood restaurant, they have lots of options. Burgers, chicken, and you could probably request to make one of their pasta dishes vegetarian. I had the mahi sandwich that came with coleslaw and a side. I opted for the red potatoes and I loved the simplicity of it. Just cooked taters with light salt and pepper, that's it. I told the waiter I didn't want the coleslaw because previously, he brought us a sample and I knew I wasn't going to eat it. It was mayonnaise heavy and not much else other than the cabbage. Wish they'd let you choose another side, but believe me, it's a lot of food so I didn't miss the additional side item. That orange cake though, that was my favorite item hands down. What a find! Driving from Orlando to Naples and somehow found this gem. We both had blackened grouper sandwiches with fries, Cole slaw and collards with bacon. Service was friendly and atmosphere was lively. Hope to go back someday! Cannot recommend enough. Just go!! read more

Had lunch here for the first time since Crazy Fish reopened under the new owners. My 95 year old uncle has been a regular for decades and had been back since reopening and liked it. This was his best meal yet and I heartily agree. The new interior is bright and clean and the new layout worked really well. The wait staff (I forgot our waiter's name - he is just 53 in the ticket) did a great job and was very attentive in the best way. The food? Classic Florida fish camp, I would say. My uncle had broiled salmon with collards and a salad and loved it. I had the grouper fingers and fries. Everything came out hot and delicious. The big hit was the crab rangoon egg rolls, which was new to my uncle and he declared them delicious. Considering the constant line of people coming in, others agree. We did agree that we miss the oysters and the seafood pasta off the old menu but all in all, this was solid, well prepared Florida food. read more

This place is truly a local dinner. I took my mother, who lives in Orlando, on Wednesday evening. It was busy at 6:30! I wanted a margarita with jalapeño but they ran out of jalapeños so I tired with pickled jalapeño. It's was terrible but it wasn't great. They had gumbo shrimp & clam chowder soup. Well they ran out of clam chowder. At least they had the crab cake for an appetizer & the server was nice to at least add sweet potatoes fries. Then my mom got a shrimp basket with fries. Driving from Fort Lauderdale to Tampa, we were looking forward to a lunch stop for catfish and hush puppies. We usually go to Catfish Country, but decided to try Crazy Fish as it was a bit closer. The dining environment is not great. There is a smell that reminded me of camping; but it's not really bad. You kinda get nose blind to it by the time food arrives. The service was excellent and very friendly. The catfish is lightly breaded, not greasy, flavor was good; but could use some more seasoning. It's hard to get flavorful fish when frying. The French fries were the best part. Both regular and sweet potato fries were excellent. I was disappointed that they no longer have clam strips or clam chowder on the regular menu. The oysters I saw looked good and they brand their own hot sauce that you can buy if you like it. Overall, I'd say we had a good lunch; but not good enough to return. read more

What amazing people and service! We rode our bikes with the West Coast Florida Riders (W.C.F.R) to have lunch. The staff went well out of their way to accommodate our large group. It was well organized, and they were friendly and welcoming. I arrived late and got a seat at a table after everyone had already ordered. They got me the menu and took my order right off, and it came just shortly after everyone else, which worked out so well. I love broccoli and it came out cooked nice. Not a pile of mush or frozen. The black beans were garlicky, and the salmon was grilled well. They created a limited menu for our large group, but it was well rounded and had more than enough of a variety. This restaurant had good reviews but upon eating lunch here, we won't be returning. Two of us got grouper dinners (1 grilled, 1 blackened), one got the grouper sandwich, the last got the cod fried fish platter. The sides included seasoned black beans, seasoned red potatoes, rice, fries, and coleslaw. The grouper sandwich was fantastic. Each of the grouper platters was less than desirable. They both lacked flavor or seasoning. The black beans lacked seasoning, the red potatoes lacked seasoning. The coleslaw was bland. The rice was steamed and lacked flavor or seasoning.
