We purchased 6 cheese and pepper tamales this last week in Cameron Park. First off, they were expensive...$20 for 6. They were frozen and worse they gave us stomach aches when we steamed and ate them. They tasted old and had hardly any cheese in them. The salsa tastes like tomato sauce. I recently purchased some really expensive frozen tamales. I was hungry so Ignored the crazy $20 for 6 frozen tamales. If I knew they were frozen I would've never bought them. Not sure who tells them these tamales are worth so much. They were by far the worst tamales I've ever had and price is outrageous. These tamales were small and frozen so who know how old they are. If I could give Zero stars, I would. Yesterday, 6/24/20 I came to this location to purchase salsa and put a large order in for an upcoming party. I arrived at 1:45PM and opened the door. The old man quickly ran over waving his hands closing to my face, very angry telling me "whoa lady, were closed!" I apologized and said I didn't see a sign on the door and the hours said they close at 3PM. I then explained I had just driven from Lake Tahoe and asked to quickly place an order. I've seen this stuff in the breweries and taprooms around town, but had never tried their products. So when I saw their booth at Mercy San Juan Hospital's Farmer's Market today, I decided to give them a try, since I had forgotten my lunch at home. I bought a chicken pot pie for lunch and was sorely disappointed. It was not good. It was terribly sweet and quite gross. 3 bites and in the trash it went. I'm mad I wasted $8. Their salsa puts restaurants to shame. It packs the perfect blend of spices, finely chopped ingredients, and just the right amount of heat. I get it once a week and it doesn't last more then 2 days I can't get enough of it. Some friends brought over two tubs of this salsa on New Year's Eve and we polished both off by mid-day on January 1! Since then I've been hooked and keep going back for more! Gary is super nice and accomodating. He has met me in El Dorado Hills to sell me salsa, since we are not close to Roseville or Rocklin where he attends the year-round farmers' markets. The salsa is $6 a tub or 2 for $10. He also sold us fresh tamales which were delicious! Those are 2 for $5. We will never buy another salsa than this again. Once you try this you can never go back! I am not one who really does chips and salsa, I usually use it strictly for cooking. This salsa changed my mind. I didn't purchase that today, however, although I will next time. Today I bought 2 of the black bean, rice, and corn tamales. I just ate one, and now I am here crying into my beer that I only have 1 left. Definitely worth 2 for $5. These are what I call "white people" tamales. They were mediocre at best. I was not impressed at all. The people that posted reviews on here saying they were amazing probably have not tried real tamales. (Figures it's Cameron Park) They were very small and lacked flavor. The outside texture was cold and hard. They almost reminded me of the store bought ones at Costco.(actually better IMO) I can't speak for the salsa as I didn't try it. My favorite snack of choice is chips and salsa. Once I found out about the "Crazy Gringo Taco Wagon" salsa...I could never switch back to buy any other salsa. It is just the right consistency...not watery but not too chunky...I love the taste and texture. It is perfectly delicious! I LOVE this salsa!!! Also, my family not only eats it on chips but we pour it over or eggs and cheese in the morning, on our salads for lunch, burritos, tacos and more!
