My wife and I live in Kenner and have been enjoying lunch once a month for many years with another couple who live on the North Shore. We have our favorites on both sides of the lake, but I recently read some great reviews somewhere online about Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen with locations in both Mandeville and Covington. After speaking with our friends we decided to dine at the Covington location of Crazy Pig Southern Kitchen. Inside the entrance, the restaurant posts their policy that you will not be seated at a table until all parties have arrived, which is understandable considering the huge amount of business they have. My wife and I arrived before our friends who were running a little late. The Hostess, Jill, asked me how many in our party and I told her four, but the other couple was running late and would be arriving in about 20 minutes. We took a seat in the empty waiting area inside the entrance. The restaurant appeared to have only one or two empty tables available inside when I arrived on a beautiful day. Five to ten minutes later the waiting area was full (approx. ten people). The restaurant was extremely noisy with all their customers enjoying their meals and conversing with friends/family. I noticed that there were approximately ten tables located in front of the restaurant in a beautiful covered patio, so I asked Jill if we could have a table outside once our friends arrived in about five more minutes because one of them was somewhat physically handicapped. There was only one empty table in the patio at the time. Jill explained that since she had a reservation in the patio for a party of eight that would be arriving soon, so she had been holding it for another available outside table to put together to accommodate this party. However, she said she would gladly give us the table. By this time, the waiting room was full of people and overflowing outside the entrance. I had given my seat to a lady and stepped outside to wait for my friends, who I noticed had arrived and parking their car. I told Jill and she seated us at the table in the patio. The four of us ordered different things on the menu, which were fantastic. Although the restaurant was packed, the waitress AND Jill visited our table several times to ensure we were enjoying our meals. Crazy Pig Southern Kitchens' ambiance, service, menu items (along with portion sizes) and prices were absolutely astounding. We were all very impressed and grateful for a beautiful dining experience. I was seated very quickly. The staff were very friendly and checked on me often. It was my first time so I asked my waitress for recommendations. She highly recommended the Blacken Shrimp and Grits. When my food came out, it was a large plate with plenty of shrimp. The food was amazing. I got my Southern/ Creole craving fulfilled. I'm definitely coming back! I saw this place as I was driving nearby to another business, but they were closed by the time I got back. I am glad I made it late morning on a Saturday. I was promptly seated and asked which beverage I wanted. I ended up getting the shrimp pasta which was quite nice. Prices were reasonable, everything seemed clean. This isba quaint little hile in the wall spot to eat. We were seating right away. The service was outstanding as the server made sure you felt welcomed and your needs were met. So many choices to choose from that it was hard to decide on what to eat. The food didnt take long to come out and it was hot and full of flavor. This is heaven on Earth. The hardest thing to do is decide what to eat but even after many visits, I haven't found one dish that I wouldn't eat again. The grits are so delicious and don't get me started on the biscuits, yum. Love bringing first timers so they can be regulars too. I did a Google search as we were leaving Covington and the Crazy Pig came up. With a name like that, I just had to try it. We were greeted and seated quickly. We actually chose the bar bc there was a TV there and we couldn't see it where they were about to seat us. We tried the praline bacon. I think it was just okay. Tasted like bacon with honey. I didn't care for the texture bc I like my bacon crispy. I had the avocado toast and my husband had the seafood omelet. The toast was really good, the bread was thin, but it was very tasty and seasoned well. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his omelet amd it was very thick and filled with seafood. He ate half and took the other half home. The restaurant is a nice size, good amount of tables. It was clean also. The staff was okay...I'm neutral on that part because they weren't very welcoming, but they weren't rude either. It took a while to order bc we were expecting to be asked if we were ready to order, but was never asked, we had to get her attention. Drink order was taken quickly, but not the food. FYI, this is a review for the location in Covington, not Mandeville. The address is 500 River Highland Blvd. and has been open since May, I believe, although it doesn't seem to have a presence on Yelp. Sorta off the beaten path and easy to miss, but features a nice venue with a laid back, extremely casual atmosphere, and a southern cafe persona. Open for brunch and lunch and although not open after 2:30 pm, there is a full bar featuring standard and specialty cocktails. You would think this would be well suited to an evening crowd. We visited on a Friday for lunch and a sizable crowd suggested an established following. Staff was welcoming and efficient and service was swift. The menu is somewhat eclectic, featuring takes on southern and pseudo- southern specialties along with appetizers, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. My wife had the chicken salad on croissant with a slaw side, and I had the broiled pork South House specialty with slaw and fried okra. Both were good, but the gravy with mine was somewhat of a gummy disappointment. Overall worthwhile though, so the brunch/lunch crowd would do well to check out the Crazy Pig. read more

Had the chance to visit this local brunch spot and we were very impressed. We are from Nola and thought they would miss the mark on taste but they did well. I follow the Facebook page and absolutely had this restaurant marked as a "must try". On Sunday 9/28/24 our travels had us in close proximity to the Mandeville location. Excitedly we made our way. We put our name on the list and surprisingly, we were promptly seated. Our waiter was very informative and patient while answering our many questions. When we ordered, AUSTIN, was awesome. He made suggestions to my husband's order and to mine that proved to be well worth it! Our food was piping hot, tasted excellent, and service, although busy with the Saturday crowd, was top notch. Omg so gooooddd! My sis brought me to one of her fav spots for brunch. Specifically the chicken and waffles. She got that and I got the fried chicken sandwich on croissant with a side of the pepper jelly. So glad I did! I just wasn't feeling waffles but I love fried chicken. Plus this had candied bacon that I love. My bf had the BLT Benedict with grits. He liked it. Especially the fried tomato was diff and good. The spiced pina colada was refreshing. Made with Pineapple juice (not the pre made mixes) and possible a little sweet coconut cream. The aged rum helps lessen the sweetness. But wished it had more coconut though.
